00:12application in 2025 as they hope to build the River Tyne Restoration Facility at Billpoint

00:20According to the Council, contaminated sediment from former mines washed down the river and
00:24build up in its berths, making it harder for boats to dock. The berths are used by a number
00:29of businesses such as Siemens, Technip and Baker Hughes.
00:34The restoration facility would prevent the sediment from being dredged and transported
00:39to landfill sites, which the Council have said is worse for the environment and more
00:43expensive. They have said if things are left the way they are now, they could build up
00:48and threaten businesses, putting jobs at risk.
00:52A public event will take place on 23 October at Pottery Bank Community Centre in Walker.
