00:00 According to new data, drivers have spent up to an extra 10 minutes crossing the Tyne
00:06 Bridge during the morning rush hour as renovation work is currently ongoing. The local authority
00:12 confirmed that during the first two weeks of the work, journey times had increased by
00:16 less than what had been expected. Newcastle City Council has been closely monitoring traffic
00:22 levels and journey times on approaching routes. Pamela Holmes, Assistant Director of Transport
00:27 at Newcastle City Council, said "We want to thank commuters who have listened to our
00:32 advice over the first fortnight of works on the Tyne Bridge." She went on to say "We
00:37 saw an average peak journey time travelling northbound from Gateshead Stadium to the bridge
00:42 of 18 minutes entering the city in the morning and 14 in the evening." The current programme
00:47 of works will see lane restrictions in place for a minimum of two years, with further temporary
00:52 lane closures and overnight closures scheduled for the remaining two years of the restoration
00:57 works.
