00:00Hi boys and girls. Today we are going to be talking all about rhyming words. What are
00:06rhyming words? Well, rhyming words are words that sound the same at the end. So when we
00:12are trying to decide if two words rhyme, we have to listen very carefully to the ending
00:18sounds of those words to figure that out. So today we are going to be looking at two
00:24words and saying the words to see if we can figure out if the two words rhyme or if they
00:30do not rhyme. Let's get started with our first two words. Say these words with me, hat, bat.
00:41Do hat and bat rhyme? Do they sound the same at the end? Yes, they do. Hat has the at sound
00:51at the end and bat has the at sound at the end. So those two words do rhyme. Nice job.
01:01Let's go to our next two words. Say these words with me, fan, map. Do those two words
01:12rhyme? I'm hearing an in the word fan and I'm hearing app at the end of the word map.
01:24Those are two different ending sounds. So we would say that fan and map do not rhyme.
01:31I'll press the frown. Nice job. Say these words with me, man, pan. Do those two words
01:45rhyme? Yes, man and pan both have the an sound at the end. So those two words do rhyme. What
02:00about rat, cut? Rat, cut. This is tricky because both of these words end with the t sound. But
02:12when we think about the vowel in the middle of the word, rat has the a sound, cut has the a sound.
02:22So when we hear that ending of the word rat, we hear at and in the word cut, we hear at.
02:29Those are two different ending sounds. So we are going to say that those two words do not rhyme.
02:36That was tricky. Nice work. How about these two words, jam, ham? Go ahead and say those words.
02:49Jam, ham. Do those words rhyme? Yes, those words both have the am sound at the end. So those two
03:01words do rhyme. Nice work. What about jet, net? Say those words. Jet, net. Do those two words rhyme?
03:17I am hearing at at the end of jet and I'm hearing at at the end of net. So yes, those two words do
03:28rhyme. Let's do our last two words. Go ahead and say these words. Bed, gum. Bed, gum. Do those two
03:45words rhyme? Those have different ending sounds, don't they? I'm hearing ed at the end of bed and
03:54um at the end of gum. Those are two different ending sounds. So we will go ahead and press
04:00the frown. Those do not rhyme. Nice work, boys and girls. Good job practicing your rhyming words
