00:00President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. recognized the initiative of the private sector in caring for the environment and their contribution to the development of the economy.

00:11This is in the leadership of the President in the 2023 Presidential Mineral Industry Environmental Award today.

00:22Yes Nina, President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. recognized the companies that showed outstanding performance in the mining sector.

00:36In the 2023 Presidential Mineral Industry Environmental Award earlier in Malacanang,

00:44the 13 mining companies were personally recognized by President Marcos.

00:51These are from the category of Surface Mining, 4 in Quarrying, and 2 in Mineral Processing.

00:59They were responsible for protecting the environment, health, and communities.

01:06These awardees have shown commendable support for our vision for the mining sector.

01:11You continue to invest in environmental technologies and adopt best practices that go even beyond compliance.

01:18From pioneering reforestation efforts to utilizing more sustainable extraction techniques.

01:25And of course, your meaningful contributions to the host and neighboring communities through education, healthcare, and livelihood programs are truly inspiring.

01:36President Marcos Jr. said that it is important to be responsible,

01:42so that we can protect our environment while helping to improve our economy.

01:49In 2023, the mining production in tin, copper, and nickel reached Php 160 billion.

01:59Its contribution to Gross Domestic Product reached 0.5%.

02:05Around 200,000 jobs depend on it.

02:10The Environment Department assured strict monitoring of the mines in the country.

02:16And recently, according to Environmental Secretary Tony Yulo-Loyzaga,

02:22three small-scale mining companies were suspended due to a lack of permit in compliance with environmental laws.
