00:00Once upon a time, there was a king named Varman.
00:03He had a son named Anandavarman.
00:05One fine day, he called his son Anandavarman and said this.
00:09My son, I am getting too old.
00:11I don't think I am capable of running this kingdom anymore.
00:14My health is betraying me and I don't think if I can hold on any longer.
00:17Father, it takes a lot more to be king than just being the king's son.
00:21I need experience and I need talent to be a king as well.
00:24So, I request you to help me.
00:26I need experience and I need talent to be a king as well.
00:29So, I request you to kindly be a king for a few months.
00:32I will use that time to research and go around other kingdoms and see how other kings are operating.
00:38Once I have enough knowledge, I shall come back and climb my throne and you can step down.
00:43The king agrees with what his son said.
00:45King then looks at his son and he immediately says this to him.
00:49Alright my son, your idea is pretty good enough.
00:51We shall do as you say.
00:53Go and learn as much as you can and we shall make you a king.
00:56Immediately, Anand takes his horse and starts travelling around several kingdoms
01:00to research and find how other kingdoms are operating.
01:04While he was visiting several kingdoms, villages and towns,
01:08he met a very peculiar kingdom named Pannaipuram.
01:12The place were filled with lot of surprises.
01:15He was shocked to learn that it was one of the most efficient kingdoms.
01:19Not a single person over there was jobless.
01:22Everybody had something to do and they were contributing to the nation.
01:26He was very suspicious and he wants to know about Pannaipuram.
01:30While he was looking around the kingdom,
01:33he saw a man who was welding a knife through a stone at a fiery hot place.
01:39He thought immediately he could go and talk to him.
01:42Anand get down from the horse and he says this to him.
01:46Hello sir, my name is Anandan.
01:48I am new to this village.
01:49Could you please tell me about this village and your kingdom?
01:52The man kept working.
01:53As he listened to everything that Anand said,
01:56he then responds to him.
01:58Alright, what exactly do you want to know about our kingdom?
02:01Tell me.
02:02Firstly, please may I know your name?
02:04The man takes a very sharp knife and places it on the stone,
02:07and he starts hitting it with a hammer.
02:10It looks very scary and fire was very hot.
02:13Then the man answers for the question he asked.
02:16My name is Narasimha.
02:18Thank you for letting me know your name.
02:20I want to ask you,
02:21when I visited your kingdom,
02:23I went to your temple to do my puja.
02:25After I did my puja,
02:27it is a tradition for me to give some food or some money to the poor and needy.
02:31But to my surprise,
02:32there wasn't single poor man in the temple.
02:34Then I came out of the temple to see if there are any poor people around the vicinity.
02:38But I couldn't find a single person.
02:40May I know what is the reason for this?
02:42Have you thrown out of all the poor and needy to be a neighboring nation?
02:45We have a king that looks after us like a god.
02:47When he is taking good care of us,
02:49why would we beg for money?
02:50Another question I want to ask you is that
02:52I have not seen a single person doing nothing and just sitting under a tree and talking.
02:57Is it legal for your nation to have people just playing and having fun?
03:01Because I haven't seen a single person having a leisure time to spend.
03:04Everybody seems to always be working.
03:06Yes, you are right.
03:07In our kingdom,
03:08except for children and very old people,
03:10nobody is jobless.
03:11That is what I want to ask you.
03:13Why is it like that?
03:14Your king's name is Raju.
03:15And it is very befitting to his name
03:17that he is taking care of such a huge nation very efficiently.
03:20Especially the king's palace would have very high class people
03:23and the rest of the people would be very low or middle class.
03:26It seems that everybody working.
03:27What is the reason?
03:28First of all,
03:29I would like to know
03:30that the king that is there in our kingdom
03:32does not have a royal lineage at all.
03:34In fact, he is just a normal man
03:36who used to take water and sell it to people from other kingdoms
03:40as he was living next to a river.
03:42A long time ago,
03:44he used to be a man that would make money using water
03:47that he has fetched from a river.
03:49At that moment,
03:50he met a woman named Saramma.
03:52She comes from the east side of the river.
03:54Even she was selling water for her living.
03:57And his name at that time was named as Kamban.
04:00But both Saramma and Kamban were sellers of water.
04:03They both fetched water from a river
04:05and they sold it for a profit.
04:07Knowing this,
04:08the king used to give a lot of fees for both of them
04:11as they brought a lot of joy to the land of farmers.
04:14And Kamban liked Saramma very much.
04:16One fine day,
04:17they both met at the river.
04:19Kamban told this to Saramma.
04:21I am a poor man.
04:22I do not have any rich background or properties to myself.
04:25But the only thing that I have is my determination and my hard work.
04:28I can work hard and achieve anything.
04:30You know me and you know who I am.
04:32If it is alright with you,
04:34let us get married.
04:35Even I am a poor woman.
04:37I don't have a background to myself.
04:39Even I will work hard just like you
04:40and I have achieved everything.
04:42I have true my hard work.
04:43Let us get married right now
04:45and let us get the sober birth
04:46because we both do not have any formalities.
04:49They both got married without any festivities
04:51or huge arrangements for the wedding.
04:53They kept the marriage simple.
04:54But unfortunately both of them were not happy in their marriage
04:57because of how busy their schedules were.
04:59Kamban would go from the west to the east
05:01and to the north to procure water
05:03and distribute it to the people and the farmers.
05:05Every day he would come home at late night.
05:07He would barely be able to see his wife and speak to her.
05:10Even his wife was very busy with what she was doing.
05:12Both of them did not have time to spend to each other.
05:15One fine day during the festival season
05:17went from the west to the east to distribute water
05:19and he came back home.
05:20His wife looked at him and said this.
05:22What happened?
05:24Have you left your job and came back?
05:26Not really.
05:26But it is the festival season.
05:28Everybody are celebrating during the season.
05:29Shouldn't we also celebrate?
05:30Yes. I want to celebrate this festival season.
05:33But unfortunately we do not have enough money.
05:36Don't worry about that.
05:37I have rupees 6 with me.
05:39Haan. Even I have only rupees 6 with me.
05:41Saramma shows 6 rupees which she folded up and kept secretly.
05:46The money that I have, I have hidden it under a brick
05:48which is in the northwest gate.
05:50I will go and get it.
05:51Fine. With the rupees 6 that I have,
05:53let us decorate the house and let us make it look festive.
05:55And once you bring the rupees 6 that you have,
05:57we shall purchase the beds, the food items
05:59and the desserts required for the festival.
06:01After listening to what his wife said,
06:03Kamban becomes very happy
06:05and he is so joyful that he is going to celebrate a festival
06:08along with his wife.
06:09He looks at her and says this.
06:12Alright. Please wait here.
06:13Let me go to the place and let me bring my money back.
06:16You just wait here and I shall be back soon.
06:18Okay.
06:19Kamban delightfully starts his journey to bring back
06:226 rupees that were hidden under a brick.
06:24As he kept walking, sun kept getting hotter
06:27and weather was also getting more humid.
06:29The heat was scratching and it was very sunny day.
06:32But none of this was able to make Kamban lose his spirit.
06:36In fact, he started dancing and singing
06:39as he was walking towards the brick.
06:41He was walking towards the brick.
06:43He crossed the king's palace.
06:45And while he was crossing the king's palace,
06:47the king saw him and he was surprised.
06:50He was also surprised that a man walking in a terrible heat,
06:53yet he is still happy and joyful.
06:55He wanted to know the reason of his joy
06:57and he called the guards and said this.
06:59Can you see that there is this man
07:01that is laughing and dancing in this terrible heat?
07:03Please go and bring him back to me immediately.
07:05The guards immediately go towards the Kamban
07:08and the guards told him like this.
07:10Hello, the king asked you to come to his place immediately.
07:13I will not come to the king's house.
07:15I do not even know who he is.
07:16Why should I be there?
07:17Kamban does not want to go to king's place.
07:19So he keeps walking.
07:21The soldiers get aggressive.
07:23He was forcefully brought to the palace.
07:25The king looks at Kamban and he says this.
07:28Where are you going my friend?
07:29You do not care about the scorching heat above you or beneath you.
07:32Yet you are dancing and singing.
07:33Where are you going?
07:34My king, there is a desire in my heart
07:36that is much more hotter than the sun.
07:38Which is why I cannot feel the scorching heat at all.
07:40The king starts thinking about what he is saying.
07:43He wonders what is his desire.
07:45May I know what your desire is?
07:46So that I can understand what is in your mind.
07:48My king, I have kept rupees 6 under a brick in the gate of the north.
07:52Therefore I have to go there as soon as possible
07:54so that I can take the rupees 6
07:56and I can buy a lot of sweets and food items for the festival.
07:59And I can celebrate and I have a good time with my wife.
08:02That is why I am very excited my king.
08:04That is why I have this desire that
08:05please let me go as soon as you possibly can
08:08so that I can have a good time with my wife.
08:10After listening to what Kamban said,
08:12the king becomes very surprised.
08:14Listen to me my friend.
08:15That place that you are going to is very far from here.
08:17By the time you reach there,
08:19it would take almost 4 hours.
08:20Why should you struggle that much?
08:21Let me give you 6 rupees that you are looking for.
08:23You can take that money and you can have a good time with your wife.
08:26Alright my king.
08:27I shall accept this rupees 6 that you are giving me.
08:29And then I shall take the rupees 6 from the northern gate.
08:32In that way we can celebrate the festival even better.
08:35Why are you looking at that money
08:36which you have hidden under the brick at the northern gate?
08:38It is way too far for you.
08:39Forget about it.
08:40I shall give you rupees 4 extra
08:42so that you can have a good time with your wife.
08:44Sure my king.
08:45You give me the money that you want to give me
08:47and I shall get the rupees 6 that I have hidden.
08:49The king could not understand why Kamban was so stubborn
08:52about taking his 6 rupees
08:53which he had hidden under the brick.
08:55So the king started increasing the money all the way to 100 lakhs.
08:59Then Kamban told to king like this.
09:01My king, no matter how much you give me
09:03I will always long for the rupees 6 that I have hidden.
09:05Please let me go my king.
09:07When Kamban said like this
09:08King gets really frustrated and says this.
09:10If you refuse to take that rupees 6 that you have kept under the bridge
09:14I shall make you the king of half of this nation.
09:16What do you say to that proposal?
09:18Kamban listens to king.
09:19Sure my king.
09:20Do it as such.
09:21Then king immediately informed guards to call the minister.
09:24King says this to the minister.
09:26I want you to immediately bring me an agreement
09:28that this man would be king of half of this nation.
09:31Minister thought that this idea was very outrageous.
09:34But he does not have bravery to disagree the king.
09:36So the minister brought an agreement
09:38and a document to sign Kamban as a king of half of the nation.
09:42Anand interrupted Narasimha's story and he asked him like this.
09:47Are you trying to tell me that a man became king of half of the nation
09:51because of how stubborn the previous king was?
09:53And the minister that signed a document for Kamban
09:55was also a very stupid person
09:57that he did not realize that Kamban was just a man that was a worker.
10:01But how did Kamban became the god that you claim?
10:04Tell that to me.
10:05I would really like to know about that.
10:07Minister firstly splits the entire kingdom into north and east
10:12as two equal halves.
10:13The entire kingdom is now split into two parts north and west.
10:16It is your choice to pick which part of the land you want to rule.
10:20Please mention the part of the land you want to rule as a king.
10:23Alright my king.
10:24I would kindly ask you to give me the northern side
10:26so that I can go and pick the rupee 6.
10:28The king was gobsmacked to hear Kamban's response.
10:32But he was respecting his stubbornness and his value that he had towards money.
10:36The king gladly made Kamban the king of north
10:40and he stated making both Kamban and his wife as king and queen of north as well.
10:45Kamban sets law that states nobody can be jobless.
10:49If he found anybody that was jobless and wasting their time,
10:52he would immediately give them jobs.
10:55He also knew every inch of the land.
10:57So he knew how to use the forest, the rivers and villages.
11:01Soon everybody in the kingdom were working and they had fine jobs.
11:05Including the beggars were also given multiple jobs so that they can earn a living.
11:10He used each and every resource in their nation.
11:14Likewise, the king earned the name as greatest king there.
11:17Everybody respected him in the entire nation.
11:21People there lived very happily.
11:23That is a fine story.
11:24But I have a question.
11:26As soon as Kamban became king,
11:28not a lot of political oppositions to this decision.
11:30The priests, the ministers, higher religious people, even the rich people.
11:34Weren't they against this very divisive decision?
11:37After listening to what Anand said, Narasimhan replied.
11:40Yes, there were a lot of people were against it.
11:43Especially people from higher caste who do not like lower caste people ruling their nation.
11:48But the former king Narasimhan made sure that all these people were assassinated and punished.
11:52If they had raised their voice against this decision.
11:55But the king gave the kingdom to Kamban only because he was very stable.
11:59Wasn't this a very instictive decision instead of a rational decision?
12:03Couldn't have the king Narasimhan decided to take back his land by causing damage to Kamban and his wife?
12:09The reason why the king supported Kamban throughout his time was because he did not grow up like Kamban.
12:14He grew up in royalty, so he did not understand the needs and the sufferings of the poor.
12:19When he saw Kamban was making great things and he was solving several problems with the king,
12:24could not solve himself, he decided to support him wholeheartedly.
12:27So much so that he started copying Kamban values and rules and started putting it in his own land.
12:33If you go to the western region of this kingdom, even there you would not be able to find a beggar or poor person.
12:39This is all because of Kamban and his intelligence and it is also because of the former king's support and idea.
12:45He might not know how to rule the kingdom, but he knows how to do politics as he has grown up along with his father in it.
12:52Even though Kamban is the hero of the story, I believe that it is because of the king Narasimha that this is all happened.
12:58Even though he grew up in a royal place with the royal bloodline, he realized that he wasn't the best choice for being king.
13:04Therefore, he picked a normal laborer and made him a king.
13:07Therefore, he is in my mind a very high person and he should be respected till the end of time.
13:12If it is possible, I would like to meet him.
13:14I shall arrange a meeting for you to meet him, but after that you should not tell about this to anybody.
13:19It would be a privilege for me to meet him. Please let me talk to him for a while.
13:23After I talk to him, I shall leave this nation.
13:25This sword that Narasimha was preparing is already ready.
13:29Narasimha picks up this sword and he analyzes how sharp it is.
13:33That man that you are looking for is none other than me.
13:36Once in a while, I dress up as a common man and I start doing works that a common man does to understand their lifestyle and their sufferings.
13:44I am the man who is the king of this nation.
13:46After listening to what the king said, Anand was shocked.
13:49He then gets up and folds his hand and respects him.
13:52He then looks at him and says this.
13:54My king, it is an honor to meet you.
13:57I didn't expect this.
13:58My name is Anand and I am the son of King Varman.
14:02I am here to see about other kingdoms and their kings, which is when I had the privilege to meet you.
14:08I have learnt a lot from you and I will implement this when I become king.
14:13Once I become king, I will know what to do and I shall come back and meet you as a king.
14:20Thank you so much. I shall leave now.
14:22Anand goes back to the kingdom and he claims the throne of his father.
14:26He starts implementing several new laws and new ideas to the nation,
14:30which was inspiring from Kamban and Narasimhan.
14:33His father Varman looked at his own son with pride and happiness.
