00:08In that village, there lived two men named Chanakya and Kanthaiya.
00:13Both of these men were very good friends and they would work together in everything.
00:17Every evening, they both would go and sit under a tree and talk to each other and entertain

00:24One fine day, the priest of the village goes towards them and says this to them.
00:31It seems like both of you friends are having a conversation with each other.
00:35The holy chant that I do for Shiva might change once in a while.
00:38But the fact that both of you always come and sit here under this tree does not change
00:43at all.
00:44Yes, my priest.
00:45We should always spend time with our close friends as much as we can.
00:48It is always good for our mental health.

00:52Sometimes when we both talk to each other, it doesn't feel the same as any other day.

01:30We both are trying to see the Kasi pilgrimage.
01:33But it has been difficult for us as both of us are busy once in a while.
01:37Could you please give us a good day to visit the pilgrimage?
01:39No matter how many times we plan, we are not able to go.
01:43But this time we are very determined.
01:44I can pick a very good day for you.
01:46But that doesn't mean that the Gods from the above will bless you.
01:49Every single day is a good day to go to the Kasi pilgrimage.
01:53But we do not know when the Lord will be available to bless you.
01:57So it is always right for you to go as much as you can, do the pilgrimage and pray to

02:10Chanakya was very wealthy and rich farmer in that land.
02:14He owned almost 20 acres of land and he had several cattle to feed him.
02:19Whereas, Kaantaya was very relatively poor individual but he was doing well for himself.
02:25He was the owner of 5 acres of land even though both of them had different amounts of wealth,
02:31they still love each other like brothers.
02:34They always wanted to plan to go to Kasi but the plan always kept falling apart because
02:39of Chanakya.
02:40The first time they planned, Chanakya was building a second floor in his house.
02:45The second time they planned, Chanakya had a problem with one of his cattle in his farm.
02:51This time, Chanakya was determined to go to Kasi along with his friend.
02:55By the way, Kaantaya, are we going to definitely go to Kasi this time or this plan going to
03:00fall apart?
03:01You are the one who is always late.
03:02I am always ready to go to the Kasi pilgrimage.
03:04After listening to what he said, Chanakya replies to him with a smile.

03:41Kaantaya sells two of his cows and get money from the person who purchased the cows.
03:47After Kaantaya received the money from the man, after Kaantaya getting money, he calls
03:52his son and he wants to inform him how to take care of everything and what to do and
03:59what not to do.
04:00Listen to me my son, there is nothing that you don't know.
04:03If it is not today, you might have to take over my land tomorrow.
04:08So I hope you look after this house and this land.
04:11Both of them start travelling towards the Kashi.
04:14As they keep walking, it almost takes a month for them to even go close to Kasi.
04:20Both of them take rest under a tree and they speak to each other.
04:25I am glad that we didn't have to spend any of the money that we brought as there are
04:30a lot of people around here who are going to Kashi along with us.
04:34They helped us with a lot of food, clothing and even giving a shelter once in a while.
04:39So I am glad that we don't have to spend the money.
04:42So far everything has been fine and dainty.
04:45But who knows what is ahead of us.
04:47Everything is left up to God to handle our journey.
04:50But we don't have to worry about that for now.
04:53Let us rest and let us wake up tomorrow again.
04:56Both of them keep walking and they came across very strange area where there have been no
05:01rains for the past two years.
05:04Everything in that area is dry and dead.
05:06The trees, rivers, even mountains.
05:09People in that area are not able to afford for food or even water.
05:14So they leave that area and move to other villages.
05:17Janaki sees the situation of the village and he looks at his friend and he says like this.
05:24We should not take rest until we cross this place.
05:26We cannot stay here.
05:27We have to leave this place as soon as possible.
05:30They decide to sleep for two hours in the night and they keep walking to leave the place
05:36as soon as they can.
05:37What is wrong with this place?
05:39It is so hot and the sun is unbearable.
05:42I am quenching for water and I am very thirsty.
05:45It is so difficult to be in this place.
05:48As both of them keep walking, determined to cross that place as soon as they can, they
05:54still kept their banter with each other and they kept conversing with each other.
05:59Janaki, please wait here for a while.
06:02I am very thirsty.
06:03I shall go to this house nearby and drink some water and come back.
06:07Sure, my friend.
06:08I shall keep walking forward.
06:10You can go and drink your water.
06:12If you haven't come back soon, I shall stay there for you and wait for you.
06:16And then we shall walk together.
06:18Janaki walks forward and Kanthaiyya goes towards the house to ask for some water.
06:23Kanthaiyya says, Excuse me, sir.

06:28Kanthaiyya walks into the house and sees an entire family sleeping on the floor.
06:33They are all sleeping in different directions and Kanthaiyya is not sure even all of them
06:38are alive at the moment.
06:40Kanthaiyya was confused.
06:41He sees a man and he wakes up and says this, Sir, I am a poor farmer who lives in this
06:46village.
06:47For the past two years, we have not been able to get a profitable finances for our farm
06:52as there has been no rains in our land.
06:54We did not have the money to graze our fields or even to afford cattle.
06:58And for the last year, we have not been able to have a single crop in our land as the fields
07:03have been returned and it doesn't grow any crops anymore before we at least used to eat
07:08once in a day and go to sleep.
07:11But nowadays we are not eating anything.
07:13For the past week, we haven't had any food.
07:15For the last two days, we haven't had any water as well.
07:19My mother who went to fetch some water from a well, fainted and fell down and she broke
07:23her back.
07:24Now my mother is not able to move as well.
07:26After listening to what the poor farmer said, Kanthaiyya's heart is broken in stumbles.
07:32Especially when he sees the young children lying on the floor, starving to death, Kanthaiyya
07:37immediately takes a jug and he goes to the well which is quite far away and he fetches
07:43water and brings it back.
07:45Kanthaiyya starts giving water to everybody in that family.
07:48After giving water, he goes back to the market and he purchases several food items and he
07:54takes the food that he bought in his own bag and starts feeding to kids, the elderly mother.
08:00After an hour, everybody wakes up and they look at Kanthaiyya like a god as after so
08:05many days, the whole family had a food.
08:08That night was very special for them.
08:10One of the kids looks at Kanthaiyya and says this to him like this, Sir, you are a great
08:16individual.
08:17Please don't leave us.
08:18I beg you.
08:19Please be with us here.
08:21Kanthaiyya feels very glad that the family is finally happy and looking at their children
08:26play around healthy makes them happy.
08:29Kanthaiyya goes out of the house and he thinks to himself, My dear friend, I would like to
08:35join you in the journey to Kasi again.
08:37But what I am wondering is that whether these family would be able to survive after a week.
08:41I believe that they won't be able to.
08:43I don't know if I can come back again.
08:46Kanthaiyya ends up staying with the family for the next two days.
08:50Sir, you have come to our house and helped us like a God.
08:54But how much help can we expect from a man like you?
08:56Even God has turned his back on us.
08:58How can we serve you further?
09:00After listening to the poor man, Kanthaiyya replies to him like this, How can you say
09:04something like that?
09:05You cannot live like this forever.
09:07You need to start growing crops in your land.
09:09You need to start grazing your cattle to bring food for your children.
09:13What are you saying is absolutely right, but we do not have cattle anymore.
09:16Neither do we have a land anymore as we have sold it to another merchant.
09:19If we do grow crops in that land, the merchant might come and take money away from us.
09:23Kanthaiyya felt bad for them and he then went to the merchant and purchased a land back
09:29from him.
09:30Kanthaiyya then used 40 that he had, he purchased a cattle bullock cart for him.
09:34Three months went by, poor man started farming, grazing a lot of cattle and he started growing
09:41lot of crops.
09:42After lot of vegetables growing in the land, he started selling it and made lot of profit.
09:48The entire family felt indebted to Kanthaiyya and what he did to them.
09:54I hope that your situation can be solved from now onwards.
09:56I have to leave now.
09:58My friend Chanakya has already left to the Kasi pilgrimage.
10:00I have to go and meet him as soon as I possibly can.
10:03Thank you for everything.
10:04Why do you want to leave so early?
10:06You have done so much for us and our family and we want to pay you back by looking and
10:10taking good care of you.
10:11Please stay with us for a while.
10:14Even the children along with their father started begging Kanthaiyya to stay there.
10:18Kanthaiyya realized that the family would not let him go away from there.
10:22So one fine day during the night, when he left the house, he realized that he had only
10:28twelve left in his pocket.
10:30He thinks this money won't be enough for me to reach Kasi.
10:34So he says like this to himself, I barely have enough money left with me.
10:39I have to go back to my house.
10:41That is the only way I can survive this journey.
10:46After thinking like that, Kanthaiyya, after one month he reaches the home.
10:50Chanakya, who was sitting with the priest in the center of the village, saying that
10:55how he went to Kasi and described it.
10:58By that time Kanthaiyya also reaches there and he looks at his friend and he says like this.
11:04My friend, where have you been?
11:06The last time I met you, you were at the place where you wanted to drink water and I walked
11:11almost a mile away from you.
11:13I sat there at a place to eat some food and I waited for you for almost two hours.
11:18I went to sleep for another two hours just to regain my energy.
11:22And when you were not there, I had assumed that you had walked past me because you did
11:27not see me while I was sleeping.
11:29So I kept walking towards Kasi to reach the pilgrimage.
11:33Every time I went further, whenever I meet people, I ask them about you, but they did
11:38not see you.
11:39They also did not know anything about you.
11:42So I kept on walking and I finally reached Kasi.
11:45When I reached Kasi, I went and took a bath in the Ganga river and I did puja to all the
11:50gods that were there.
11:52When I went to the temple to take the blessings from the God, I saw one man who did a very
11:58holy ritual in front of me.
12:01While he did that holy ritual in front of me, there was a lot of smoke in that temple
12:06and within that smoke, I was able to see your face almost in the form of a God.
12:11And I had assumed that you had already been here in Kasi and you had taken your blessings
12:17there as well.
12:18I was so happy to know that you had taken your blessings in Kasi.
12:23So I waited there for two days to see you if you could come, but you did not reach there
12:28as well.
12:29So I started walking back to reach home.
12:32During the journey, I went and saw the house that you went to drink water at.
12:37The entire family in that house said great things about you that you were the one who
12:43helped them from poverty and starvation.
12:46They also said that you stayed there for three months and left them without telling them
12:51in the middle of the night.
12:52So I assumed that you came back to the village.
12:55Now I am very glad to see you.
12:57I did think you reached Kasi before me, but I did see your face in Kasi.
13:02My friend, I am still confused about that.
13:04What are you saying is very confusing.
13:06I never went to Kasi and how were you able to see my face among the rituals that were
13:10happening, but you already went there and why were not you able to see the God yourself?
13:15This is all very perplexing to me.
13:17After listening to what both Kanthaiya and Chanakya were talking about, the priest laughs
13:21and says this.
13:22Now I understand why this has happened.
13:24As I told you from the beginning that we cannot choose when to see God, but only God can choose
13:30when to see us.
13:31When you both went to the Kasi pilgrimage, you both intended to see God, but you have
13:36proved that God does not come in the form of a temple or a statue, but it is in the
13:41heart of his followers.
13:43That day when you helped those poor people, you are a God to them.
13:47In their eyes, you did everything you could to help them from the little you had, but
13:51you Chanakya went to Kasi, but you were still not able to get blessings from the God.
13:56This was because it is his choice to see whom he wants to see.
14:00In this journey, Kanthaiya got blessings from the God because of his good deeds and
14:04he has also acted in the form of a God.
14:07This just proves that it is what in your heart that matters more than your rituals or your
14:12pilgrimages.
14:13Is it what you do to other people and the way you help them, that can show how much
14:17of a devotee you are to your God.
14:20Kanthaiya approved that he is a true devotee to Sivan and that is the reason when Chanakya
14:26was able to see Kanthaiya in Kasi.
14:29Yes, you were right, my priest.
14:31I did not receive blessings from the God because I did not look for him at the right place.
14:36Whereas Kanthaiya stayed there with those poor people and helped them throughout the
14:41three months of his time, which is why I was able to see his face at Kasi.
14:45After listening to Chanakya, priest replies, Either way, now it is great that both of you
14:50are back.
14:51Now you can go back to being the friends that you always were.
14:54You can sit here and banter under this tree as long as you want.
14:57So both of you should thank the Gods that you both are safe and healthy and you can
15:01continue your friendship like you can.
