00:00Welcome back everyone, it's Charlie James Gunn just announced a brand-new Jon Stewart
00:13Green Lantern.
00:14It's a big fan cast everyone's been asking for the past couple months.
00:17I think they even rushed the announcement out to distract everyone from how much everyone's
00:22hating on Joker 2 right now.
00:24Like how do we get people to forget about Joker 2 quick announce we just cast a brand-new
00:28Green Lantern is the guy that everybody's been asking us to cast for the last couple
00:32months you can just feel the vibes coming from behind the scenes like please stop thinking
00:36about Joker 2 and start thinking about the stuff that were really excited about all address
00:41that to because there's been a lot of questions about how James Gunn was involved or not involved
00:46with Joker 2 generally he was not involved with that movie there was apparently some
00:50drama behind the scenes about that to with Todd Phillips not wanted to have anything
00:53to do with DC or James Gunn or any of that side of the filmmaking business when he was
00:59actually doing the Joker 2 movie.
01:01No surprise the guy that just directed a movie that bears no resemblance to DC movies didn't
01:06want to have anything to do with DC when he was making said movie, but the Green Lantern
01:11news is actually pretty awesome.
01:12So I am happy that they announced this.

01:22If you didn't see the news Aaron Pierre is playing Jon Stewart Green Lantern in the
01:26DC you now both the Green Lantern HBO series and the upcoming DC movies inside the DC you
01:33remember there will be some elseworlds movies, but for the most part all the live-action
01:38movies going forward are meant to be connected.
01:40This also means that Aaron Pierre will probably be on the new version of the Justice league
01:44once it forms in future movies that's not going to be for a while, but they're slowly
01:49putting together their Justice league characters in the background of the DC you right now
01:53Superman is just like the first real big one.
01:56They're actually kind of doing a proto version of a Justice league team during that new Superman
02:00movie next year, but the not the actual Justice league they just resemble a version of the
02:04Justice league international from the comics crossed with the terrifics from the comics
02:09will start getting some trailers for that new Superman movie at the end of the year.
02:12So we'll learn more about what's going on with that team during the film pretty soon
02:17Most of my feed the last couple of months while they've been working on casting these
02:20new Green Lantern actors have been fan casting Aaron Pierre as Jon Stewart mostly based on
02:26his performance in rebel Ridge like that's the thing that tuned everybody into him.
02:30You want to honor that deal or do I gotta transition to him?
02:40The funny thing about that to think there wouldn't be that much hype behind him.
02:43If Jon Boyega had not dropped out of rebel Ridge.
02:46If you haven't seen that movie on Netflix.
02:48He actually kills it during it Aaron Pierre played the character the Jon Boyega was supposed
02:53to play.
02:54So thank you Jon Boyega for dropping out of that movie James Gunn did specifically say
02:58that rebel Ridge isn't the reason why they cast him.
03:01He just blew them away in the casting sessions that they did the old-fashioned way and if
03:06you been keeping up with the wider DC universe for like the last several years.
03:10You might actually remember him more for his role as Dev M during the Krypton series.
03:15That's right.
03:16He's already been part of the DC universe Krypton was that Superman series that the
03:20sci-fi channel did back in 2018 and 2019.
03:23It only ran for two seasons before they canceled it, but it covered the life of Superman's
03:27grandfather on the planet Krypton set in the past with Brainiac trying to mess with the
03:32timeline.
03:33There was also a time-traveling version of size of the was a lot of time travel shenanigans
03:37on that series mix with a lot of Superman characters Aaron Pierre only played a supporting
03:41character on that series.
03:42So he wasn't part of the house of L like Superman's family, but for a while he did play a romantic
03:47rival for Zod's mother with Superman's grandfather seg L that was right.
03:52There was like a love triangle going on with Zod's mother.
03:55Remember there are all these time-travel shenanigans they wanted to make people wonder if Zod was
03:59secretly tied to Superman's family somehow like there was some biological connection
04:04between the two of them.
04:06But that sounds nuts the show got canceled after two seasons, so they never really got
04:09too deep into that they're mostly dealing with their Brainiac storyline their time-traveling
04:15Zod storyline and they started to do a version of Lobo, which is funny because it sounds
04:19like Jason Momoa is actually coming back in the DCU as the new version of Lobo.
04:25But Aaron Pierre was also great during those episodes.
04:27He wasn't that big of a character though, but is a weird twist on Superman lore.
04:31So ironic now that he comes back to the DC universe as Jon Stewart Green Lantern, which
04:36is obviously a huge upgrade because now he's probably gonna be on that brand-new Justice
04:40League team during the HBO series he's going to be the younger Green Lantern partnered
04:45with the older Hal Jordan Kyle Chandler I've already done a video on Kyle Chandler I don't
04:50think he's gonna be a total rookie during the series, but a relatively new Green Lantern
04:54paired with the grizzled veteran if you see people wondering about what's can happen to
04:58Hal Jordan is gonna turn into parallax are they gonna do a zero-hour storyline in the
05:03future of the DCU because the whole idea is that Hal Jordan is much older during the parallax
05:08storyline the white is the Kyle Chandler's contract for playing Hal Jordan Green Lantern
05:13is only for the TV series for the HBO series not for the upcoming movies.
05:18The difference is that Aaron Pierre's Green Lantern contract is for both the HBO series
05:23and the upcoming movies.
05:25So you like you know these going to cross over into the upcoming movies that's why a
05:29lot of people are wondering if they're gonna Ned Stark Kyle Chandler's Hal Jordan like
05:33will they try to kill him off or is it gonna turn into a version of parallax are like what's
05:36can happen to him in the future because Hal Jordan really really big character obviously
05:41the whole synopsis for the series that they've released so far is that they're investigating
05:45a mystery that will shake the foundation of the entire DCU heading forward with the plot
05:49carrying forward into the movies.
05:51So the fact they keep calling it true detective in the DC universe makes it sound like true
05:55crime like a murder mystery and they're saying this murder that they investigate happens
06:01inside America's heartland which basically means the Midwest.
06:04If you're not from America think Smallville Kansas like Smallville is in America's heartland,
06:11but the person who's dying that they're going to be investigating will not be the new Superman
06:15like is is going to be someone really important for the DC universe inside the Midwest somewhere.
06:20So just as soon they find the dead body of a really important DC character in unraveling
06:25the mystery of how they died who killed them all these circumstances leads to some universe
06:30altering consequences and it sounds like it will eventually lead to their first new Justice
06:34League movie in the next four to five years depending on how quickly they plan on moving
06:39to full-blown Justice League, but a big part of the reason James Gunn said that he's rebooting
06:44the whole DCEU into the DCU recasting a lot of the actors basically starting fresh with
06:49a lot of stuff is that they can actually take their time this time in building up to
06:54a Justice League instead of just going straight from zero to 100 miles an hour the way they
06:59did with the DCEU.
07:00So that's why might be like four or five even six years before we see the next Justice League
07:05movie you love time to have met all these characters will have time to develop all the
07:10different Justice League characters in a couple movies in a couple TV series before you actually
07:14see them all team up together which I actually think is the smarter way to go in.
07:19In fact, a lot of you who've been watching the news the past couple years with the castings
07:23James Gunn is that all the announcements about the different movies and TV series his new
07:26Justice League team will be closer to the animated version of the Justice League, which
07:31is a great TV series.
07:32If you haven't seen those episodes I would recommend checking them out I haven't seen
07:35any news about what they're doing with Martian Manhunter only James Gunn implying that he
07:39already exists in the universe somewhere and he did say that they don't plan on casting
07:44a new Wonder Woman for a good long while we're not going to meet her for a while same thing
07:48with the new version of flash and he's been really quiet on who the new Batman is going
07:53to be.
07:54I don't think the brand-new Justice League is going to be exactly like the animated Justice
07:57League, but I'm assuming at least seven members Martian Manhunter would be like the super
08:01deep cut if he does put him on the team like oh he's really going for deep cuts Zack Snyder
08:07did do Martian Manhunter and he filmed some Jon Stewart green lantern for his version
08:12of Justice League, but a lot of that wound up hitting the cutting room floor deleted
08:16scenes when he left the project and then had to secretly do the Jon Stewart green lantern
08:20stuff without the studio knowing about it because they specifically told him not to
08:25do it.
08:26I did a whole bunch of videos about all these special scenes back when he released the Justice
08:30League Snyder cut a couple years ago after they release that movie.
08:33That's the reason why you saw Zack Snyder releasing all that secret footage that he
08:36filmed at his own house of the green lantern scenes just because the studio specifically
08:41got really pissed off at him for trying to film that stuff.
08:45James Gunn didn't specifically say if Nathan Fillion's Guy Gardner is going to show up
08:48during the series.
08:49He implied that he might a little bit, but there's a good chance that he does given that
08:53he's one of earth's current three known green lanterns.
08:56So would be weird if like all the green lanterns of earth sector in space were assigned to
09:00a very important case by the green lantern corps and Guy Gardner did not show up at some
09:05point side note please don't kill him off during the new Superman movie, but it does
09:10sound like Guy Gardner is on this other team in the Superman movie that Maxwell Lord is
09:15either sponsoring or running.
09:17So my assumption is that if he does show up on the green lantern HBO series it'll only
09:21be a small crossover since most the series is just meant to focus on just how Jordan
09:25in Jon Stewart thing more the vibes of true detective season one not the subsequent seasons
09:31another funny DC connection to talk about wider DC universe Colin Farrell who is now
09:36playing the penguin on that Batman HBO series, which I'm doing episode videos for also start
09:42in a subsequent season of true detective.
09:45I was not a big fan of his season of true detective, but he did star in a season of
09:49true detective the other big talk recently has also been about the new version of flash
09:53because we just had the 10 year anniversary of the flash TV show pilot.
09:58That's how long ago the flash pilot was don't you feel old now still one of the best pilots
10:03in the DC universe and just in TV in general like it was an amazing first episode of television
10:09still bummed the grant Gustin did not get a cameo during the flash movie, but the fact
10:14that they done to Barry Allen's at the same time for the past 10 years means is a pretty
10:19solid chance the James Gunn's flash winds up being the Wally West version instead you
10:24might remember that Michael Rosenbaum of all people Lex Luthor played that version of Wally
10:29West I was the voice of the flash for 10 years what these boys are going through this
10:46is a gonna work is it not a chance I talked a lot about Michael Rosenbaum's version of
10:54Lex Luthor when I was talking about the Superman movie just because James Gunn acknowledged
10:58his version of Lex Luthor as the best Lex the whole joke there though is that he's probably
11:03not can have a cameo inside the Superman movie like I'm not expecting it to happen, but there's
11:07a bunch of stuff coming up if there's any big questions you have about what's going
