00:00Welcome back everyone it's Charlie.
00:10There was a big Green Lantern HBO announcement this week.
00:14It looks like they found their new Hal Jordan of James Gunn's DCU for the big series that
00:19they're doing and it looks like it's going to be Josh Brolin of all people I never guessed
00:25it would've been him.
00:26It wasn't on any of my list or the James Gunn would be going for a much older Hal Jordan
00:30like way older.
00:31I think that most of us thought, but just think of how Ryan Reynolds is going to react
00:36to this, especially if cable returns in Deadpool 4 okay let's talk about the obvious thing
00:42Green Lantern end of career and yet you're still going why none of us can understand
00:50okay game on Brolin you're so old you make dust look like a baby.
00:55You could literally just talk about what's going on here playing all their footage from
00:59Deadpool 2 and it would work.
01:01We all joke, but there were actually some DC references during Deadpool 2, but as crazy
01:06as it sounds Josh Brolin seems like he's going to be the next Hal Jordan of the DCU.
01:11So will break it all down.

01:16they wind up doing like whoever they wind up casting is their younger Jon Stewart.
01:20Of course I'll be doing episode videos for when it releases it sounds like it's going
01:23to be 2026.
01:25That's why we're getting all this casting news now because the ramping up to actually
01:28cast the series and start filming it James Gunn already released a short teaser for the
01:33series explaining what's going to be about how it will connect with the larger DCU movies
01:37TV shows the new Superman movie is going to be the first time will see any Green Lantern
01:42inside the DCU that'll be Nathan Fillion's Guy Gardner who we've already seen scenes
01:48of during the Superman movie like I did a couple videos for the Superman previews that
01:52we got for all the characters the new version of the suit, but a big part of those previews
01:55included some of the other big characters like his Green Lantern and Hawkgirl zoom and
02:00enhance notice all their costumes.
02:02This is just for the Superman movie.
02:04So this could change by the end of that movie, but the Green Lantern costume included have
02:08Maxwell Lord's company logo on them like Mr. Terrific everybody have Maxwell Lord's logo
02:13on their suits all the suits look very similar like they're part of the same team the going
02:18for like a Justice league international kind of I because Maxwell Lord was part of that
02:22team in the original comics Sean Gunn who played crackling the guardians of the galaxy
02:27movies and is James Gunn's brother is playing Maxwell Lord.
02:30It sounds like his version will be more like the original version, not the more recent
02:34more evil version of Maxwell Lord, but that's probably why the suits look the same.
02:39I'm not a big fan of the look either.
02:41So maybe Superman maybe some of the other characters will clown on the look of their
02:44suits like we can do a much better looking Green Lantern suit when we actually get to
02:49the Green Lantern HBO series please please do better looking Green Lantern suits please
02:54don't make the super suit green or animated everybody remembering all the Ryan Reynolds
03:00jokes pretty easy to guess on their TV budget their suits on the Green Lantern series will
03:05not be animated part of the idea here though is that the Superman movie is meant to be
03:10the introduction to the wider DCU like boom here it is this is what's going on in the
03:14universe in present day just giving everyone a better feel for the vibe of what's happening
03:19like what's the state of things who's active around the world what's coming down the pipe
03:23the Green Lantern HBO series and peacemaker season two are meant to be the first live
03:28action series in the DCU there is the penguin Batman series coming a couple weeks.
03:33I will do episode videos for that, but that's all part of the Matt Reeves Batman universe
03:38totally separate thing not canon to the DCU was not to be connected to anything happening
03:43during the new Superman movie the Green Lantern HBO series or any those other shows and movies
03:47that they're doing is part of the DCU the reason why it looks like they went for Josh
03:52Brolin for Hal Jordan who's in his late 50s is the Green Lantern HBO will be like a true
03:57detective mystery thriller that's the way they been pitching it.
04:00So older Hal Jordan teaming up with a younger Jon Stewart as his partner to solve a larger
04:05universe threatening mystery inside the DC universe is mostly going to be based on earth
04:11and the mystery like what they're trying to figure out will affect the wider DCU like
04:16Superman the new Batman the new Justice league all larger characters will be like a very
04:20universe spanning connected mystery and it's like they want Hal Jordan in this equation
04:25to be the Murtaugh of the Murtaugh and Riggs lethal weapon Green Lanterns team like two
04:30days away from retirement Green Lantern I'm getting too old for this Green Lantern.
04:34They haven't announced who they cast for Jon Stewart yet, but the report is they're
04:37looking for someone in the early 30s or younger, so like a very young Jon Stewart, but not
04:42a total rookie.
04:43This is that larger teaser for the series the James Gunn dropped a while ago talking
04:47about what it's going to cover the next thing is a big premiere HBO television series called
04:54Lanterns this is a story of a couple of Green Lanterns Jon Stewart and Hal Jordan and we
04:59have a few other Lanterns peppered in there.
05:01But this is really a terrestrial based TV show which is almost like true detective with
05:07a couple of Green Lanterns who are space cops watching over precinct earth in it they discover
05:14a terrifying mystery that ties into our larger story of the DCU based on the pitch it sounds
05:20like a pretty smart bet for them like it be pretty hard for them to mess this up Damon
05:24Lindelof is one of the people that are working on the series you probably know him from his
05:28previous TV series movies or even his previous HBO series Warner Brothers also made a weird
05:33change to all the upcoming big budget TV series.
05:36Maybe it's not so we're like is price smart move on their part, but they started officially
05:40branding them as HBO series and not as Max series.
05:45So they get a smart move if they're making the shows as HBO shows if they brand them
05:50as HBO shows don't get me started on all the crazy Max Warner Brothers stuff that they've
05:55been doing the last couple of years of the been so many disasters at that company a couple
06:00years ago Ryan Reynolds even released a Snyder cut video with him editing his Green Lantern
06:05character scenes from his movie into the Snyder cut trailer that was actually a real video
06:10that Ryan Reynolds edited and posted on his own social media.
06:14He also said he hadn't rewatched his Green Lantern movie since it originally came out
06:18in theaters and did so while drinking his junior like this is him wearing a Green Lantern
06:23ring getting really drunk rewatching his movie for the first time in years, but I've
06:28never seen Green Lantern neither.
06:30It's just from you haven't either know the editor literally see it.
06:35But you just have to imagine Ryan Reynolds reacting to the news Josh Brolin becoming
06:40the new Hal Jordan taking over the role from him.
06:43The jokes practically right themselves like we have come full circle here cable was not
06:47in the new Deadpool and Wolverine movie, but he did have a cable joke about him being an
06:51unpopular character implying that's why he didn't bring him back for Deadpool and Wolverine
06:56how exactly did that happen while the police say gravity, but if just between us they didn't
07:01test well in the focus group particularly cable even though they clown on each other
07:05a lot for the Green Lantern stuff that Ryan Reynolds in the past and all the cable stuff
07:10in present day they are good friends, but it does remind you that there has not been
07:14a live-action movie version of Hal Jordan since Ryan Reynolds longtime DC TV fans will
07:20remember that there was a Hal Jordan briefly in the Arrowverse, but they weren't allowed
07:24to show his face just because of all these crazy rules about what they can do with the
07:28characters on TV versus the movies the runway in the flash they used in the pilot episode
07:33and in later episodes was also at Ferris's airfield as in Carol Ferris where Hal Jordan
07:38flew all of his test pilot missions from there was also the Diggle Green Lantern story arc
07:43towards the end of the shows he got the ring in the Arrow finale that was meant to set
07:47up the Justice league TV show that they were developing it was going to be another spinoff.
07:51It was going to be called Justice you as in Justice University with Diggle basically handling
07:56a bunch of younger characters with powers that was all before the big reboot in the
08:01push to streaming and Warner Brothers started canceling all the DC TV shows that it was
08:05doing on other networks because it wanted everything to be on Max and it also didn't
08:10want to do all these wider universe shows from a bunch of different places.
08:14That's one of the big reasons why they started canceling all the DC TV shows.
08:18Even the ones that didn't have that many seasons like Superman and Lois for instance was given
08:22like the most polite version of a cancellation that you could probably get where they're
08:26basically like time to end the show like will let you in the show with season five, but
08:29effectively it was also canceled generally the CW just moving away from doing all kinds
08:35of superhero TV shows.
08:37There was like a bigger thing going on you prior Jared Padalecki and a lot of other actors
08:40complaining about what the CW was doing with the future of its network.
08:44But a lot of those DC TV actors have said they're optimistic that they'll come back
08:48and reprise their roles eventually like even Stephen Amell's like yes, someday maybe I'll
08:52come back and I'll play a version of green arrow at some point, but RIP to all the Arrowverse
08:57shows effectively the Arrowverse was ended when they push to streaming on Max and they
09:01rebooted with James Gunn DC you just because they want to do everything more connected
09:06now with the movie actors more like the MCU is doing its TV shows on Disney plus basically
09:12the idea being that the movie actors also play their characters in live action on the
09:16TV shows.
09:17There are a couple exceptions this like you have the Matt Reeves Batman penguin TV show
09:21that's meant to be set in the separate universe of the Robert Pattinson Batman.
09:25They're allowing him to continue making the Batman to like everything is happening in
09:29his universe.
09:30I don't know how long that's going to continue, but he will at least make the Batman to for
09:34the most part though all the upcoming big movie and TV show stuff that they're doing
09:38in the DC universe will be connected to the new James Gunn DC you for those you asking
09:43about the Joker to as well to like that's office and only the universe as well to but
09:48Joker to is probably the last movie they do with the Joaquin Phoenix Joker character like
09:52this is basically the end for that character part of the problem they have with rebooting
09:56things and bringing it on to the same umbrella is that you have like a bunch of different
10:00projects that all earn a lot of money that they don't want to stop like off you can earn
10:04money will let you continue.
10:06So if it is earning money.
10:07That's probably why they let some of the stuff go on as a me posting this video.
10:12They have not announced any casting for the new Wonder Woman in the DC you the new flash
10:17or the new Batman there probably waiting till after the Batman to comes out for that with
10:21Robert Pattinson to announce that DC you Batman just because they don't want to steal too
10:24much of its thunder.
10:26I'm sure this will come up in the next couple years when they do make that announcement
10:29because it is weird that can make Robert Pattinson the new DC you Batman, but it's all because
10:34they want an older version of Batman who has an older version of Damian Wayne based on
10:38Robert Pattinson's age it wouldn't be weird of Damian Wayne were like a little baby, but
10:42they want like a Damian Wayne they can actually be a character running around during the events
10:47of the Batman brave in the bold movie more like the grant Morrison run where he introduced
10:51Damian Wayne as the new Robin.
10:53So it sounds like the new DC you Batman will be like a 40 something Batman for instance
10:57Ben Affleck's Batman was like late 40s early 50s.
11:01So not like very old Batman, but like a slightly older version of Batman there will be whole
11:05books that you can write though about all these things that are happening in this shift
11:09in the universe.
11:10All the reboots in the projects they were making, but then canceled because they wanted
11:14to do all the new stuff was each of these big movies and TV shows come along.
11:19I will talk about the relevant stuff that it replaced in that they canceled in favor
11:23of the new stuff.
11:24There's like a whole book worth of stuff we can talk about when the new Batman movie comes
11:28out in the DC you like this was what the Batman movie was going to be with Ben Affleck
11:32when they were still making it in the DCEU I can only imagine who they're going to cast
11:36for the brand-new version the flash in which version of the flash they go for if it's Wally
11:40West or if it's Barry Allen the other funny thing about older versions of Batman they
11:44recently revealed that there was a very brief window back when they signed Michael Keaton
11:48for the flash movie in the Batgirl movie that part of his deal included a live-action Batman
11:53beyond movie.
11:55So RIP to live-action Batman beyond how long is gonna be before we actually see something
11:59like that now Michael Keaton was even the planned old man Batman of the larger DCEU
12:05before they decided to reboot with the James Gunn DCEU he was actually meant to replace
12:09Ben Affleck's Batman for a while until they did another really big Justice league team
12:14up movie way down the road.
12:16It was all meant to be part of this super twisty original ending to the flash movie
12:21before they changed it and got rid a lot of those scenes and cameos Henry Cavill was
12:25still in the movie for a long time he had a much bigger cameo scene during the ending
12:29with him meeting Supergirl already did a whole big video about it when the flash movie came
12:33out.
12:34So I'll link it at the end of this because some of those alternate takes and deleted
12:37scenes are pretty wild everybody post all your reactions in the comments to Josh Brolin
12:41Green Lantern though I think it's gonna take everybody a while to get used to the idea
12:45is okay because it was still successful as opposed to Green Lantern which was just nothing
12:51nothing nothing really big reminder though the Batman penguin HBO episodes will start
