On October 11, a serious train accident occurred when the Mysuru-Darbhanga Express collided with a goods train near Chennai, Tamil Nadu. The crash happened around 8:30 pm on the Chennai-Gudur section, between Ponneri and Kavaraippettai stations. The impact caused 12 coaches to derail, resulting in injuries to 19 passengers. Rescue and relief operations were quickly launched, and all passengers were safely evacuated from the scene.

00:00It was unusual that despite having the signals for the main line,

01:00This train was going towards Gurdur and further to Andhra Pradesh and
01:29via Odisha it would have gone to Darbhanga.
01:35It started from Mysore.
01:37So while going towards Gurdur, it has to pass this station.
01:44So at this station, goods train was stabled at the loop line and this was given precedence.
01:52So this was supposed to pass via the main line, run through without stopping.
01:57There is no stoppage here.
01:58And signals were also given for the main line.
02:01But it was unusual that despite having the signals for the main line,
02:10the train entered the loop line where the goods train was standing.
02:14So it hit the goods train from behind.
02:16And because of which this engine has derailed.
02:20But fortunately both our loco-pilot and assistant loco-pilot are Hail and Hearty.
02:26And now we are, after taking their statement, we will relieve them.
02:30And the immediate coach behind the engine, which was power car cum parcel,
02:38that caught fire, perhaps because power car is a diesel engine.
02:43But no damage was caused to any human because of that.
02:49And the fire was doused by, immediately ambulances reached.
02:53And rescue teams from railway, from fire department and from railway police and state police,
03:01they reached well in time, including ambulances and doctor, railway doctors, senior officers.
03:07And fortunately there was no death and all the injured were immediately moved to the nearby hospital,
03:13Stanley Hospital.
03:14And some were also moved to the Madras College, Medical College.
03:23First priority is to treat the injured, which has already been done.
03:27Now, next priority is to take the passengers to Chennai,
03:32where a special train is waiting to take them to their respective destination,
03:37to Odisha, Andhra and Bihar, Jharkhand.
03:42And then parallelly we are also going to restore it as soon as possible.
03:47Already our accident relief train is on the way, next station Ponnari.
03:52Which is 6 km away.
03:54So it is moving towards the site.
03:57So all the four lines are now blocked.
04:00It may take approximately maybe 15-16 hours when we are able to clear the whole track.
