00:00A passenger train collided with a stationary freight train in the Thiruvalluvar region
00:07of Tamil Nadu state in India, causing a total of 12 coaches to derail on Friday night.
00:14The train crew and passengers said they felt a sudden jerk as the train approached the
00:19Kavarapettai station at around 8.30pm.
00:24This caused the train to enter a loop line instead of the main line.
00:28At least 19 passengers were injured, with four of them suffering severe injuries following
00:33the derailment.
00:34So this was supposed to pass via the main line, run through without stopping.
00:38There is no stoppage here.
00:40And signals were also given for the main line.
00:42It was unusual that despite having the signals for the main line, the train entered the loop
00:48line where the goods train was standing.
00:51So it hit the goods train from behind and because of which this engine has derailed
00:56but fortunately both our loco-pilot and assistant loco-pilot are hale and hearty.
01:02A special train was sent to the affected stretch to ferry the stranded passengers and 18 scheduled
01:09trains were cancelled on Saturday.
01:11The railway authorities have ordered a high-level inquiry into the incident.
