00:00Storm victims in Florida are dealing with a host of hidden dangers from
00:04Hurricane Milton that has moved out of state. Hello, I'm Steve Eager. Flooding is
00:09persistent in some neighborhoods around the Tampa and St. Petersburg area. That
00:13raises the risk of waterborne illnesses and infections along with electrocution
00:18from submerged power lines that are still charged. St. Petersburg is under a
00:23boil water notice. More than 2 million customers in Florida still have no
00:26electricity. At least at least 16 people have died from storm-related causes.
00:31Fox 4's Sean Rabb talked to several evacuees who are not sure when they
00:35will be able to return. Sean. Yeah, well one family's not returning. A young lady
00:39from North Texas moved to Florida two and a half years ago and in that time
00:42she's lived through five hurricanes including Helene and Milton the last two
00:46weeks. Another family coming from Florida to Texas because of those same
00:50hurricanes. Two different stories connected by hurricanes with two
00:53different decisions about their future. What do you know about your residence in
00:59St. Pete after Milton passed through? So I heard from my neighbor there that a
01:06part of the roof was torn off. I know some more windows shattered out and
01:10there's a lot of rain that got inside of the building. Grapevine native Brighton
01:16Young has called Florida home two and a half years. She lives along the barrier
01:20islands in the Tampa Bay St. Petersburg Metro evacuating from St. Pete that was
01:25hard-hit to Orlando to wait out Milton's wrath after being stuck in her home
01:30through Hurricane Helene. I didn't make it out in time because my car wouldn't start and
01:35there was no one around to help me jump it. She captured Helene's high waters on
01:41her phone from her apartment. It was already like five feet inside my
01:45building on the first floor and I mean I went above the hood on my car so it was
01:49for over six hours. I mean it was steadily like very high. Now more
01:54aftermath challenges. You know just coming even to safety like very quickly
01:59the hotels become limited and they become expensive and and yeah just trying
02:04to get assistance for that has it's not been successful as far so anyway I'm
02:09still trying to reach out to resources but yeah. Simple grocery stores are
02:13trashed, gas stations, the little mobile home parks that have a little lakes and
02:17everything. They overflowed into the roads. Sarah Atkins and Raphael Kelly
02:21talked with us Wednesday. They left Bradenton just south of St. Petersburg,
02:25dropped the kids and pets at Grandma's in Louisiana and came to North Texas
02:30where Raphael grew up for sure not going back. Helene was pretty bad, left some
02:37damaged and this one came, Milton came and the risk wasn't just worth it, it's not
02:44worth it. Already finding a place to call home. In Fort Worth yeah now we're
02:50just waiting for the call back saying yeah you got the house and it's good to
02:54go. Brighton Young says she has to go and see what else happened to her home
02:58hit twice in two weeks in St. Pete. Are you anxious about going back today? Yes I
03:05would say so. I mean I think I mentally prepared myself for worst but I mean
03:10it'll it'll be a crazy reality. A crazy reality how these hurricanes change your
03:16life and for some change minds about where they'll call home.
