00:00Minnesota Lynx won against New York Liberty in overtime 95-93 to get Game 1 of the 2024 WNBA Finals.
00:10This is what Daryl Oclares reported.
00:14In a come-from-behind 95-93 overtime win,
00:20Minnesota Lynx defeated New York Liberty in front of their home crowd to get Game 1 of the 2024 WNBA Finals.
00:29Minnesota Lynx went through a hole-in-the-middle,
00:33where Liberty's lead to 18 points was severely reduced.
00:38In the fourth quarter, Lynx lost 14-2 run to lower New York's lead to 83-80.
00:49Minnesota Lynx lost their first lead in Game 1,
00:53followed by a four-point play by Courtney Williams in the remaining six seconds of the regulation.
01:00The home team had a chance to get the win in the fourth quarter after Brianna Stewart was fouled.
01:08However, she was only able to score one free throw to force overtime.
01:14In the last half of the OT, the score was 93-93,
01:19which was immediately broken by the 2024 Defensive Player of the Year, Fiza Collier,
01:24after he was able to score the game-winning fadeaway jumper.
01:28Collier was able to score 21 points, 8 rebounds, and 2 assists,
01:34while Williams was able to score 23 markers, 5 boards, and 9s.
01:44That's where we've been down before.
01:46And that's when we really got to lean on our defense.
01:48So that was something we were talking about, getting three stops in a row,
01:51you know, chipping at it a little bit at a time, not thinking about the point difference,
01:54but thinking about the possession that we need to get a stop and then a score.
01:57Minnesota Head Coach Cheryl Reeve gave a compliment for not giving up her position.
02:04I think it defines our team in terms of being able to get through difficult times.
02:08You know, that's what we say, we've been talking about, all these interviews we've been given.
02:12What we're talking about is, you know, you have to be mentally tough, resilient.
02:16You have to look inward and not blame other people and give each other confidence.
02:24And we were, you know, we were that team.
02:27We'll find out in Game 2 on Monday if Minnesota will be able to post a 2-0 lead
02:33or if New York will be able to recover.
02:35Gary Loclares for Pagbansang TV in Bago, Philippines.
