00:00President Ferdinand R. Marcos, Jr. has called on Asian countries to address the so-called transnational challenges
00:11that affect the peace and stability of the region.
00:16Clazel Pardilla is in the center of the news.
00:21Members of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations are facing a growing transboundary problem.
00:28President Ferdinand R. Marcos, Jr. said at the ASEAN-Japan Summit that
00:33the actions in the East and the southern part of the Sea of China are dangerous.
00:39China is occupying almost the entire sea using the Nine-Dash Line
00:44under the 2016 Arbitral Ruling in which our rights in the West Philippine Sea were diminished.
00:51China is also targeting the territorial claims of Vietnam, Malaysia, and Brunei,
00:57the member states of the ASEAN.
00:59That is why President Marcos encouraged the leaders of the country
01:03to maintain security, cooperation, and territorial integrity.
01:09President Ferdinand R. Marcos, Jr. has called for a rapid draft of the Code of Conduct
01:16for Peace in the West Philippine Sea.
01:19He said this in front of the ASEAN leaders and Chinese Premier Li Keqiang
01:23at the 27th ASEAN-China Summit.
01:26The Philippines is saddened by China's continued violence in the West Philippine Sea,
01:32such as the bombing of water, bombing of ships,
01:36and threats to Philippine troops in the West Philippine Sea.
01:40This is against international law,
01:42which is why the geographical scope,
01:47and the conduct of parties in the South China Sea
01:50should be taken seriously in addressing tensions in the West Philippine Sea.
01:56President Marcos also asked at the bilateral meeting
02:00with Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau
02:03for continued support and endorsement of the Group of Seven or G7,
02:08the position of the Philippines in the West Philippine Sea.
02:12The G7 is the country with the largest economy
02:16in Canada, Japan, the United States, France, Germany, Italy, and the United Kingdom.
02:23While the Philippines is grateful to Australia
02:27for its unwavering support in maritime security and rule of law,
02:31Australia is one of the countries that joined the Philippine patrol in the West Philippine Sea.
02:37The Executive Board of the Comprehensive Partnership of ASEAN and Korea
02:42is pleased that it hopes that this will result in peace and stability in the region,
02:47especially in maritime security and protection of the marine environment.
