00:00In addition to almost 200 ships of China in the West Philippine Sea,

00:03a maritime security expert said that the AFP should also monitor

00:07a Chinese research vessel near Palawan and Northern Luzon.

00:12Let's hear from Chino Gaston.

00:16In the last monitoring of the AFP from September 30 to October 6,

00:21around 170 ships of China remained in the West Philippine Sea.

00:27Of these, 28 are ships of the People's Liberation Army Navy and China Coast Guard.

00:33Most are Chinese fishing militia or ships that pretend to be fishermen

00:39but are under the control of the China Coast Guard.

00:42The AFP continues to patrol using the airplanes of the Philippine Air Force

00:46and ships of the Philippine Navy.

00:48There is nothing unusual that the AFP is now noticing in the movements of China

00:53even though it is still illegal for ships of China to remain

00:57inside the exclusive economic zone of the Philippines.

01:00We don't have a report that there is something that we need to really immediately address in the area.

01:08As I said, we are continuously monitoring here.

01:11Aside from ships of China Coast Guard and Navy,

01:14a research ship of China near Palawan and Northern Luzon should also be monitored.

01:21There may be some research value in what they're doing.

01:25I mean, they may be looking sort of at the undersea environment for submarine operations.

01:31And there may also just be symbolic value.

01:34They're just basically making a statement that this is what we're going to do and you can't stop us.
