00:00KK Mistry also with us, Chairman of HDFC Life Insurance, joining us on the phone line, Mr.
00:05Mistry, thank you so much for taking out the time to speak with us today as we pay tribute,
00:09I think to one of the greats, definitely when it comes not just to corporate India, but
00:16to laying out an example of how to function in corporate life.
00:21What is your favorite Ratan Tata story, Mr. Mistry?
00:24I would put it this way that for me, it is impossible, not just for me, but to my mind
00:30for anybody else to describe the enormous legacy that Mr. Ratan Tata leaves behind.
00:37He was a legend like nobody else, we've seen so many people who made a name for themselves,
00:42but nobody like Mr. Ratan Tata who achieved so much and yet lived such a simple life.
00:48He was a man with incredible vision.
00:50He was truly, in my view, an outstanding and extraordinary human being who lived an
00:54extremely very, very simple life despite his huge achievements.
00:59He had so much conviction in what he did.
01:02And under his leadership, the Tata group grew from strength to strength.
01:06He had the vision and courage to make some extraordinarily successful acquisitions for
01:11the Tata group.
01:12If you remember in those days, early 2000s, mid to 2003, 4, 5, Tata's did the spate of
01:19acquisitions, whether it was in Tata Motors, where they acquired JLR, whether it was in
01:24Tata Motors, where they acquired Corus, or earlier in Tata Consumers, where it was TechLeap.
01:31It took India on the global stage and in those days, nobody could imagine that an Indian
01:35company could go abroad and acquire such global companies.
01:40You know, I remember many years ago, probably 10, 12 years ago, I was driving from Budapest
01:46to Prague, from Hungary to Czechoslovakia, and I remember that at two places along the
01:51way, we saw bots of Tata Group, which in those days for an Indian company to be seen overseas
01:58was extraordinary.
01:59And I think really what separated him from any other legend was his humility, his simplicity,
02:06despite creating so much wealth for the community and the country, lived a very simple life.
02:11He was a simple man, very philanthropic, always wanting to help people.
02:15He helped so many startups, he encouraged the youth of the country, and he really had
02:20the good of the country at heart.
02:22That's the way I would describe him.
