00:00The number of Filipinos who have jobs increased this August, according to the Philippine Statistics Authority.
00:07And according to NEDA, the Filipinos will have a good Christmas this year,
00:12because aside from the increase in the number of people who have jobs, the inflation in the country will also decrease.
00:17Joshua Garcia has the details.
00:22The increase in the employment rate continues.
00:24The unemployment rate in the country will also decrease, according to the latest data from the Philippine Statistics Authority,
00:30especially now that it is the Bermond's and holiday season.
00:33If we look at October, November, December last quarter, because of the holidays, release of bonuses,
00:39our household final consumption expenditure is increasing.
00:43We have a lot of jobs that are being created.
00:46We have an expectation that our labor force participation will increase in our employment this last quarter.
00:56In the latest labor force survey of the PSA just last August,
01:00the employment rate reached 96% which is a high rate compared to 95.6% in 2023 in the same month,
01:08and 95.3% in July 2024.
01:12This is equivalent to Php 48.07 million that had jobs in August 2023,
01:18to Php 49.15 million in August 2024.
01:22The unemployment rate decreased by 4% for the month of August this year,
01:26from 4.4% in the same month in 2023,
01:30or equivalent to Php 2.22 million that had no jobs in August 2023,
01:34to Php 2.07 million this year in the same month.
01:37National Statistician Undersecretary Claire Dennis Mapa explained that this is a result of a large number of women
01:44who joined the labor force that increased the labor force participation rate.
01:48Year on year, between August 2023 and August 2024,
01:52about 1.03 million female workers joined the labor force,
01:58and about 1.03 million were absorbed in the labor market, meaning they were employed.
02:05Overall, the labor force participation rate, or LFPR, remained at a high rate of 64.8% in August,
02:13which means that 51.22 million Filipinos were active in the labor market,
02:18which is higher than Php 50.29 million in 2023.
02:22Meanwhile, according to the National Economic and Development Authority,
02:25the Philippines will have a good Christmas in the latest labor force survey,
02:29along with a decrease in the inflation rate to 1.9% in September.
02:33This is in line with the government's plan for the TBP for 2025-2034,
02:39led by the TBP Interagency Council,
02:42which has a partnership with other government agencies and stakeholders from the private sector.
