00:00Civil society groups in Sabah and Sarawak are once again calling for Putrajaya to allocate
00:07critical development funds for East Malaysia in Budget 2025.
00:11And La Simbang, Executive Director of Pakos Trust, said many rural areas require improved
00:17infrastructure to access essential services such as banking and medical aid.
00:22She also said there is a dire need for the installation of off-grid systems to supply
00:26power to villagers in remote parts of Sabah and Sarawak.
00:30Meanwhile, the Sabah Action Body Advocating Rights said the budget should provide a development
00:35allocation for Sabah over and beyond the annual capitation grant and oil and gas royalties
00:40due to the state.
00:42Sabah Chairman Zaini Abdul Aukasa said the government should also encourage foreign direct
00:47investment into Sabah by providing tax incentives for foreign companies to set up shop in the
00:52state.
00:53He said this would generate better job opportunities for locals who often have to move to West
00:58Malaysia for employment.
