00:00The government continues to strive to increase the number of facilities and services in the country focused on cancer care.
00:07This is after the cancer care center in East Avenue Medical Center was opened to the public.
00:13It was led by DOH Secretary Teodoro Herbosa.
00:18Vel Custodio was at the center of the news.
00:22The cancer care center in East Avenue Medical Center was opened to the public.
00:27Priscila has been receiving treatment for ovarian cancer for two years.
00:32Every three weeks, she goes back to EAMC to receive treatment.
00:36So it's a big deal for her to have a facility for cancer care.
00:42It accommodates everyone. It's not as tight as it used to be.
00:46But now, it's better.
00:47Hazel has been fighting stage 4 breast cancer for six years.
00:52She witnessed how EAMC and DOH continue to improve the facilities and services.
00:58In the old tumor clinic, it wasn't this big and spacious.
01:05For so many patients who had chemo, now it's really nice.
01:11The facilities are better.
01:14It really helps us.
01:20The cancer care center has a lot of facilities and services for cancer care.
01:26Now, it offers 200 chairs in the hospital for cancer patients' therapy.
01:33Some of the services are radiation oncology, medical oncology, nuclear medicine, and breast care.
01:39Based on a study in 2023, cancer is the third leading cause of death in the Philippines.
01:45That's why it's a big help to add more facilities and services,
01:49especially that 80% of cancers are now treatable by oncology.
01:53There really needs to be referral centers like this.
01:58If not, even if you're diagnosed with cancer, you won't be able to receive treatment.
02:06Because there's no center to receive treatment.
02:08Cancer management at the community level is part of universal health care.
02:14There are trained barangay health workers and primary facilities.
02:20They will refer to the primary facilities for the first detection.
02:26Then, they will refer to us.
02:28Department of Health Secretary Teodoro Herbosa led the inauguration program
02:32where he initiated the Act for HPV Vaccination.
02:37HPV vaccination is an anti-cancer for cervical cancer.
02:42So next year, I can vaccinate all nine years old with HPV.
02:46Dr. Alfonso Nunez, the third of EAMC, is also present at the inauguration.
02:50Dr. Mary Claire Suleiman is the cancer care head.
02:54While sending video messages, Senator Bong Go.
