00:00The World Wrestling Federation, for over 50 years, the revolutionary force in sports entertainment.
00:12Due to life-threatening complications from a ruptured kidney, Intercontinental Champion
00:16Ahmed Johnson underwent emergency surgery this past week.
00:20The procedure, known as fusion, stemmed internal bleeding in Ahmed's damaged kidney.
00:26The injury was originally sustained by a series of blows to Ahmed's kidney area by newcomer
00:32Farouk Assad.
00:34The injury was further aggravated, however, by Ahmed's insistence on competing in last
00:39week's Battle Royal and yet another attack by Farouk.
00:44Ahmed demanded to be released from the hospital and is, in fact, at home improving.
00:49However, if his condition does not continue to improve, if the bleeding returns, unfortunately,
00:56it could very well necessitate kidney removal.
00:58However, I'm sure I speak for all the World Wrestling Federation fans who wish Ahmed Johnson
01:04a complete and rapid recovery.

19:51Intercontinental champion Ahmed Johnson suffered a ruptured kidney in this attack
19:56by the man known as Farooq and managed by Sonny.
20:00Last week in the Raw Invitational Battle Royale against Doctors Orders,
20:05Ahmed Johnson fought off the pain from his injured kidney,
20:09ignored the blood trickling from his broken nose,
20:12and in one of the most extraordinary displays of courage and stupidity
20:17we've ever witnessed, Ahmed defeated ten WWF superstars
20:21to earn his first shot at the World Wrestling Federation title.
20:25However, glory soon turned to near tragedy.
20:28Yeah.
20:29As we were going off the air last week, Ahmed once again was attacked by Farooq,
20:33exhausted and injured.
20:34And scared.
20:35Ahmed tried but was unable to defend himself.
20:38The severity of Ahmed's condition was not really realized until this past weekend.
20:43We learned that Ahmed had been rushed to the hospital for emergency surgery.

20:57but the future of one of the most promising young superstars in the WWF

21:04Our colleague Kevin Kelly traveled to Ahmed's home in Houston, Texas today
21:08and filed this report.
21:10First off, Ahmed, I want to thank you for allowing me to come into your home
21:12and to take this time to talk to you.
21:14Everybody is very worried about you.
21:16We've heard a lot of things about your medical condition.
21:19At this moment right now, how are you feeling?
21:22Well, you know what, I can always ignore the physical pain.
21:24This isn't the first time I've been in physical pain.
21:28It's more the mental pain that's playing the game with me right now.
21:31Mental pain hurts worse than anything in my life right now is the mental pain.
21:35Ahmed, what symptoms did you have that alerted you to call for help
21:39and eventually require emergency surgery?
21:42Well, I guess it started when I was laying in bed at night at the hotel
21:46and it felt like my insides were just turning flips
21:50and my whole side and stomach area just felt like it was turning ice cold.
21:57At that point, I knew then there was something wrong.
22:00What exactly have the doctors told you is the injury?
22:03What exactly happened to your kidney?
22:07What happened to my kidney was when I got kicked in my kidney.

22:13It somewhat burst my kidney.
22:15And then been in a battle royal after that.
22:17It didn't help matters any.
22:19But gold dust and stone-coasty loss and everybody else
22:23kicking me all over my kidneys and everything.
22:25It didn't help any.
22:26It just made the tear a little wider than what it was.
22:29Did the doctors ever say that there was a chance of losing the kidney?
22:34Well, yeah.
22:35Doctors told me so far it's just bleeding.
22:40And if it doesn't start bleeding, then from my understanding,
22:42they're going to have to take my kidney out.
22:45Have you thought about your future if you're no longer able to compete in the WWF?
22:51I don't know how to answer that question.
22:53I don't know if I'll ever be able to perform again.
22:57I don't know if I'm ever going to be able to be at my highest point again in my life.
23:02I don't know right now.
23:03I don't know if I'm ever going to be able to defend that Intercontinental title
23:06or the world title.
23:08I don't know if I'm ever going to be able to defend that ever again in my life.
23:14So, I really don't know how to answer that question.
