00:00I don't really know how much probing you're gonna have to do to get a set like this for yourself now.
00:04Here's your Spooky Spot on the Playmates Toys Simpsons Interactive Trios of Horror Toys R Us Exclusive Alien Spaceship Environment.
00:30Welcome to Springfield, USA, home of the Simpsons.
00:44Whether freezing your brain with an ice cold chutney squishy at the Quickie Marts, choking down imitation fruit beverages at Springfield Elementary, or drowning your sorrows at Moe's, you can't help but drink in the radioactive charm that is Springfield's alone.
00:57Yes, a visit to Springfield brings a glow to the heart that never ever goes away.
01:01Warning, you're about to be abducted.
01:03Just before I bring in the interactive spaceship set that comes included with Kang, Kodos, and Homer, I was gonna grab the tape measure first.
01:10I was gonna measure off these figures.
01:12Kang and Kodos really hadn't been released by any other toy company, so this was a set that was the most sought out by collectors.
01:19Probably one of the reasons that out of the four, it's the most expensive still, still on eBay.
01:23To get yourself a sealed box of this will still set you back over $200.
01:27Kang and Kodos are obviously gonna be standing about the same.
01:30The only thing that's really different is obviously their facial features and their tentacles.
01:33But other than that, the bodies are gonna be the exact same height.
01:36If we count to the top of their antennae, you're looking at them being about 7 inches in height, or gonna be about 18 centimeters tall.
01:43As for Homer, obviously he's gonna be shorter.
01:45He's only gonna go to about 4 1⁄2 inches in height, or roughly 12 centimeters tall.
01:51And then, as I did before, let's bring in the Jax-specific Homer so you guys can see.
01:55You know, size-wise, they're not that much different.
01:58You can see, though, that Jax really did refine the features on Homer on their release.
02:02This Homer does come across a little bit more dated and a little fuller in the face.
02:06Now, one thing also I didn't get the chance to do when we looked at the Super 7 release of Kang and Kodos,
02:11is I didn't bring in the Playmates because I couldn't find the set at the time.
02:15I'm gonna rectify that now.
02:16I'm gonna bring in, if I can actually even make the space for it,
02:19here's what the figures look like.
02:20Can you even see that?
02:21Let's just slide everybody over here.
02:23Over, over, over. Slide over Kang. Or Kodos.
02:27And just bring in the Super 7 release.
02:29Super 7's Alien is probably, like, what, double the height?
02:33Maybe a little less than double.
02:34But it's certainly a larger-sized version of the Alien,
02:37and probably one of the reasons why maybe the set isn't going as high as it is now,
02:41because people now have at least another available option,
02:44although the ones we got from Super 7 are still pretty hefty on their own.
02:48A little less assembly is required for this interactive world.
02:51When you get this first initially out of the box,
02:53the only thing you really have to do is add the flap pieces.
02:55I think this is the parts that open up at the back of the ship, my guess is.
02:59These basically just detach if I just remove one of them.
03:02Oh, not trigger the button, though, in the process.
03:05These just detach. You can see there's pegs.
03:07There's a little slot in the middle, and they just fit into the sides.
03:09You'll know right away when you're putting everything together.
03:12These go on the sides, and then you've got, of course, your view screen right in the middle.
03:15Uh-oh. Uh-oh. Are they targeting Earth? I think I'd better be worried.
03:19Nice little colors that they've done on the side for the purple buttons.
03:21This, by the way, is just a sticker application.
03:23The sticker, for the most part, has held up pretty well over the years.
03:26We've got some sticker application there on the front there as well,
03:29with a few little buttons on the control console,
03:31and you've got yourself a little joystick. It doesn't actually move.
03:34Batteries I've already taken the liberty of re-adding. I have removed them.
03:38If you saw my review of the other Playmates interactive world of Treehouse of Horror,
03:41you know that when I got this set, the batteries had sadly leaked.
03:45Not a bad thing, though, at all, because I ended up just taking out the batteries.
03:50I kind of just took myself a little plastic knife,
03:52kind of scraped out all of the acidic residue left behind by the batteries,
03:56kind of cleaned everything out as best I could, put the batteries in, and it worked fine.
04:00So it's not necessarily a case that if you get these things, the batteries have leaked,
04:04you have to then just consider replacing it.
04:06Try your best. You might be able to see if you can actually fix it instead.
04:09Now, on the side, you've got yourself the switch. Right now it's set for display.
04:13There's also off and demo. Demo only cycles through some of the audio clips.
04:17Off, obviously serves as off.
04:19So we'll put that right off to the side.
04:21The accessories that also come included with this is you get yourself...
04:24Is this the rod? I'm assuming it to be the rod.
04:27It's molded here, as you can see, in silver plastic. They've painted the end in green.
04:30The thing about it, though... Oh, and there's a little button there on the side as well.
04:33Better not turn it on, just in case.
04:35There's nothing really on these.
04:37I mean, short of maybe giving it to Homer.
04:39And even then, if you look at it, Homer's grip is way too big.
04:42So, I mean, it's not even really going to...
04:44Unless you have him kind of holding it this way.
04:46This hand also is about the same, too.
04:48I mean, it's almost as if, like, the hands were never really designed to hold these accessories.
04:51And forget about Kang and Kodos.
04:53There's no way at all that they're going to be able to hold this either.
04:56You also get, as well, how to cook for 40 humans.
04:59Oh, there's more space to us.
05:03Better be careful not to blow this too hard,
05:05because the sticker's already starting to peel off the top corner.
05:07The book feels relatively unfinished, other than really the sticker on the front.
05:10If you look at the interior of the pages,
05:12space, dust, or otherwise, there's nothing at all printed on them.
05:15The book doesn't open or close, for that matter.
05:17And even, really, if you're looking at one of them,
05:20one has a slightly curved tentacle arm.
05:22I don't know what you would consider that.
05:24I suppose you could kind of put the book in between there.
05:26A lot of times, usually, I'll just kind of leave the book like that,
05:29like they're looking at it.
05:30I mean, there's really not a lot of space
05:32when you consider, really, how much space these guys actually take up.
05:35So those are the things that come included with it.
05:37We'll just kind of move these off to the side for right now.
05:39I guess we'll look at Homer Simpson first.
05:41Homer Simpson, I'll be bringing back in the Jax Pacific we looked at earlier.
05:45The face is a little thinner.
05:47I would say, if anything,
05:48maybe the Playmates has the coloring down a little bit better.
05:50Not only the browns, not only the yellows,
05:53but even the whites, I think, work a little bit nicer on the Playmates release.
05:56You can see, size-wise, they're almost maybe identical.
06:00I would say, like, maybe Jax is just a tad bit longer.
06:03Obviously, this guy has some more articulation that this guy never had.
06:07But if you wanted to,
06:08I don't know if what we're going to be getting with Jax Pacific,
06:10with the long, big picture, obviously,
06:12if we won't be getting a cane, kudos,
06:14that these might be, at least for right now, a stand-in
06:17until we get replaceables down the road.
06:19Now, again, like with Homer,
06:20limited articulation is going to be, really, the formula for all of these figures.
06:24Standard swivel only just in the head,
06:26but really, like, Jax only had swivels in their heads.
06:29Swivel in the arms,
06:30and sometimes you usually have swivels in the waist.
06:32That's it.
06:33You've got the connecting circuit chip there on the bottom
06:35that's going to plug in.
06:36Ha ha ha!
06:37It's going to plug into three ports.
06:39And why did I chuckle like that?
06:41Three ports, it's not the easiest thing at all.
06:44In fact, of all the Simpsons Playmates Trios of Horror sets,
06:48this is the hardest one.
06:49I'm giving you guys full disclosure,
06:51this is the hardest one to kind of keep connected properly
06:53and cycle through the audio.
06:55So that's Homer.
06:56Then you get yourself Kang and Kodos.
06:58Not that I'm going to identify one over the other to be Kang.
07:01This could be Kodos, this could be Kang.
07:03They do require some assembly.
07:05The bottom sections here, when you're looking at them,
07:08you can't just take any one of them,
07:10and you can't just connect it to any alien that you like.
07:12If you're looking at these, they'll actually have...
07:14See, there's a prong here, and there's a prong here.
07:17If you look at the bottom of this alien, there are...
07:19Now, you see already I've kind of grinded some of this away over the years,
07:23but there's like a little slot there and a slot there.
07:25If you look at the other alien,
07:27popping that off,
07:29he's actually got little connecting points only on this side.
07:31I don't know why they had to make them unique like this,
07:34because if you're looking at them,
07:36you can't use this one for this one,
07:38and obviously you can't use this one for this one,
07:40because the placement of those little notches of plastic
07:43are in completely different places.
07:45So we're going to go with like for like, apples to apples.
07:47Already I grabbed the wrong one.
07:49So again, we're going to plug this in.
07:51Very hard to put this in place.
07:53Every year I do these, I always think to myself,
07:55there must have been an easier way.
07:57I'm sure there probably was.
07:58You just have to put a lot of pressure
08:00in order to get the arms attached on the bottoms of their bodies.
08:02And again, with this one,
08:04maybe what I ended up doing at one point was,
08:06I had this on the body, and I was trying to twist this.
08:08I mean, it really shouldn't have had anything
08:11that had to connect with a certain configuration.
08:13I think if anything, you could have just plugged them on the bottom.
08:15We'd still be able to rotate the bodies.
08:17You can't really rotate them,
08:19because the pegs designate otherwise.
08:21There is, of course, the circuits on the back,
08:23bottom of these.
08:25There is one of them. Is it this one?
08:27No, it's the other one.
08:29This one actually does move a bit.
08:31You won't see it right now,
08:33but the moment you start to connect this
08:35onto the little connecting ports,
08:37one of these, I don't know, maybe it is the other one,
08:39this shifts.
08:41And sometimes that does happen
08:43when you get these Playmates interactive figures.
08:45These little chips do sometimes start to indent,
08:47where you see one side sticks up.
08:49The hardest thing, though,
08:51with this particular set,
08:53is that you can never quite get the aliens properly attached.
08:55If you're looking at this as it is right now,
08:57there obviously are angled in a certain way
08:59that they only work one way.
09:01So, I mean, when you're looking at the alien, for example,
09:03to have the alien line up,
09:05you can already see,
09:07and you already know the way that this had to attach
09:09on the bottom of his body.
09:11I can't put it over here.
09:13If I put it over here, I have to angle this
09:15facing the view screen,
09:17you can put it in the middle.
09:19But then the problem with the middle, though,
09:21is that the tentacle is going to hit to the back of this,
09:23and that's not going to fit either.
09:25So there's only certain configurations
09:27that are going to work for this particular playset.
09:29The default, by the way, though,
09:31the earliest one, the first set that we looked at
09:33from Playmates, had the sound of a crow
09:35if nothing was plugged in place.
09:37This one actually makes the sound of,
09:39I guess, a spaceship.
09:41If you press the button,
09:43it kind of does, I don't know,
09:45it's really loud,
09:47and you're probably going to hear it a lot.
09:49But you're going to take your characters.
09:51Homer, I tend to usually put in the middle.
09:53And again, when you're looking at Homer,
09:55you're going to see there's the connecting chip.
09:57That's going to, for all intents and purposes,
09:59plug in place.
10:01And even like Homer, when you put him down on it,
10:03it seems like the little port pushes him back up.
10:05You can see right there.
10:07Now, I've tried to do this prior to hitting record,
10:09trying to get everything all figured out,
10:11get my ducks in a row, as they say.
10:13Even when you plug in Homer,
10:15he never stays in place.
10:17Now, if you already have these sets,
10:19you already know the frustrations you face with dealing...
10:23I mean, obviously, we already know
10:25if you get it all the way on there,
10:27the character's going to be able to cycle the sounds right away.
10:29Homer, when you plug him in...
10:35Yeah, see?
10:37It doesn't always work with Homer,
10:39and a lot of times, Homer pops off.
10:41And you're thinking right now, looking at this,
10:43you're having a struggle getting Homer on there.
10:45It's going to be even worse for the aliens.
10:47Honestly, a lot of times, what I end up doing, though,
10:49is when I display these on the shelves,
10:51I usually just put Homer in front of it,
10:53and I just put Hank and Codas on either side.
10:55But you know what? Let's see if we can get
10:57at least Homer on here.
10:59There we go.
11:03Now, you already may see this,
11:05that I'm having to hold Homer down.
11:11The audio, I will say, though,
11:13doesn't quite sound like Homer.
11:15It may have something to do with the way it was recorded.
11:17It sort of has almost like an echoey
11:19ting sound to it.
11:21It's certainly a lot higher of a Homer
11:23than what we're used to hearing.
11:25That's a lot of H's.
11:27Again, we'll just kind of plug this all in place.
11:31And now, I've done this.
11:33I've done this, I don't know.
11:35Every single year, I always have the same frustrations.
11:37Plugging Homer in is always the easiest,
11:39but then doing it with Hank and Codas,
11:41it never seems to work.
11:43So we're going to get Homer as best as we can get it
11:45right in the middle there.
11:47And hope that he doesn't unpeg.
11:49And while that's still pegged in place...
11:51Yeah, that's not...
11:53I don't think I have it all the way on there.
11:57Yeah.
11:59So we just have to...
12:01See?
12:03See, if I hold him down...
12:05He does actually still manage
12:07to go through the audio.
12:11But as you'll see,
12:13Homer's going to detach from the port.
12:15And that always ends up happening.
12:17Hank and Codas is even harder to attach
12:19because you're having to not only
12:21worry about forcing this down,
12:23but you also have to make sure that you've got the right configuration.
12:25So Hank, or Codas for that matter,
12:27usually what I'll do is I'll put him...
12:29I end up putting this one over here.
12:31Now again, when you're twisting this,
12:33you have to make sure everything's lined up.
12:35And even then, you have to have him facing outward
12:37because it just isn't going to work any other way.
12:39Several, several moments later,
12:41finally getting Hank, Codas, and Homer
12:43attached onto the display base,
12:45we'll see what little window we have
12:47when it comes to the audio clips.
12:49One thing I would suggest as well is
12:51if you're having a struggle getting Hank and Codas
12:53on their bases, take the domes off first,
12:55then attach the tentacles,
12:57and when you get a secure grip that you know
12:59you're going to be getting some audio at least,
13:01then put the domes on, but put them on carefully.
13:03Just a hair trigger,
13:05a slight nudge of these,
13:07and you'll find that they won't work.
13:09With them now all attached,
13:11you can see there's Homer obviously in the middle,
13:13the two aliens on either side.
13:15Let's hope, fingers crossed, it actually works.
13:17This isn't the first, as I said, this isn't the first
13:19rodeo I've had problems with this particular set
13:21a lot of times.
13:23People that have also added this one in their collection
13:25probably also have similar frustrations.
13:27Pressing the button in the middle...
13:29Already you can see one of the issues though
13:31is that there's buttons on either side
13:33that should really trigger these characters,
13:35but every once in a while, if you press a button
13:37in the middle,
13:39you'll get usually the character in front,
13:41but a lot of times, sometimes, it may trigger
13:43any of the characters on either side.
13:45So even though the first one was actually an alien,
13:47the second one was Homer.
13:49You see what I mean.
13:51There's a button also located here on the side,
13:53and you can press it,
13:55and you'll get a notification
13:57also located here on the side,
13:59which...
14:01accidentally triggers Homer's audio.
14:07And sometimes, too, you also have to...
14:09There we go.
14:11Sometimes you may even find yourself
14:13having to hold this down.
14:15Now, I've had friends that have had similar sets like this.
14:17Their kangenkotas work fine.
14:19It's all really boiling down to the connection points.
14:21How well these securely attach
14:23onto those clips will dictate
14:25how well the audio will actually work.
14:27Let me just angle this a little bit.
14:41I guess I would then make this Kodos.
14:45Yeah, this one doesn't...
14:49It almost really seems,
14:51and maybe it's over the years that I've had this set,
14:53that the connections do suffer over time.
14:55More so, too, is that the clips on the side...
14:57So, essentially, you've got yourself a chip
14:59that connects and lines up into the bases
15:01of the character's feet.
15:03Then you've got these little clips on either side.
15:05Now, if those clips are bent in any way
15:07that prevents a connection between the two,
15:09that's sometimes where you may fail with the audio.
15:13And while Homer worked earlier,
15:15as you can see...
15:17So it isn't really the best.
15:19I mean, of the sets that we've looked at,
15:21we only have looked at the two so far.
15:23We will be looking at the other two
15:25in upcoming reviews.
15:27I did also want to bring in the original
15:29Playmates Treehouse of Horror set
15:31that we've already had a look at,
15:33if you've already taken the liberty
15:35of watching that review.
15:37Thank you for that, by the way.
15:39I really liked this set,
15:41but it has a lot of frustrations,
15:43as you already have now suffered
15:45along with me over this review.
15:47These guys connect easily.
15:49You can hear them rolling through that spaceship sound
15:51that you'll have very frequently heard already
15:53as you're already trying to get these characters
15:55all in place.
15:57Of the two, I would say,
15:59at least of the sets,
16:01the other set that we will be looking at
16:03also has the Freddy Krueger Willy.
16:05That was one I was really looking forward to getting
16:07because it also has Donut Homer.
16:09The Collector one, as I'll talk a lot about
16:11in his own standalone review,
16:13that's probably my least favorite
16:15because it really doesn't have any characters in there.
16:17You see Lawless, so that's at least saying something.
16:19Short of that, though,
16:21I really didn't have much interest in the Collector,
16:23but I did want to at least collect it
16:25so I could say I had all four.
16:27The two sets that you're looking at right now
16:29are my favorites that we've got from Playmates.
16:31This was a lot easier of a chore to go through
16:33and show you guys all the cycling of audio
16:35because it was a lot easier to connect the characters.
16:37The same can't be said for Kang, Kodos, and Homer.
16:39They're the most frustrating.
16:41If you have noticed this,
16:43I had struggles again trying to get everything in place,
16:45and this happens every year
16:47that I put these sets out.
16:49A lot of times usually what I'll just end up doing
16:51is I'll just have Kang, Kodos on the bases.
16:53I don't even bother really with the audio.
16:55They look good, they just don't work all that great.
16:57Those spaceship sounds, oh those spaceship sounds.
16:59For those that have this set can relate.
17:01For those that don't have this set yet
17:03will relate the moment they get this out of the box.
17:05It's not to say that your connections will work better.
17:07Like I said, I have had friends
17:09that had this Kang, Kodos, and Homer set
17:11and their connections worked fine.
17:13I'd always have fun putting these on their play sets,
17:15moving and mixing around the characters.
17:17Although with the Treehouse of Horror
17:19you really can't mix around the characters
17:21because the audios are very exclusively set for these characters.
17:23Kang and Kodos are, even though
17:25the most visually stunning of the Treehouse of Horror sets,
17:27they're certainly the most frustrating
17:29when it comes to attaching them.
17:31Not only do you have to contend with the idea
17:33that their little tentacles
17:35are specifically dedicated to one body over the other,
17:37but also once you get them all attached
17:39then you have to worry about
17:41trying to line these things up to the clips.
17:43And it never works.
17:45This is really the only original looking Homer
17:47that we get from the Treehouse of Horror,
17:49if you don't count, obviously, Homer Kong
17:51and Donut Homer, which will be part of the second
17:53or the upcoming set that we'll be looking at
17:55following along the Playmates Treehouse of Horror
17:57Toys R Us exclusive World of Springfield dioramas.
17:59If you guys had the chance to pick up this one
18:01let me know down below in the comments section.
18:03For a while, though, it was the go-to
18:05if you guys wanted to get a Kang and Kodos
18:07as part of your Simpsons.
18:09Now that we have Super 7,
18:11Super 7, obviously, is completely out of scale.
18:13If you are looking to display them, for example,
18:15with the Jax Pacific,
18:17I think they're way too big, first of all.
18:19If anything was going to be lining up with the size of Homer from Jax,
18:21it probably might be these ones.
18:23Until again, we get ones released by Jax
18:25with only fingers crossed that that ends up happening.
18:27Have you guys been collecting
18:29any of these Simpsons World of Springfield dioramas?
18:31Let me know down below in the comments section.
18:33If you've had frustrations,
18:35it doesn't have to necessarily be this particular set.
18:37I know sometimes
18:39certain sets have worked better than others.
18:41I haven't had any issues with the other sets,
18:43but maybe you have.
18:45Let me know your experiences with these
18:47down below in the comments section.
18:49In the meantime, if you guys did enjoy this video,
18:51do it a solid. Throw it a like.
18:53You guys want to stick around for more?
18:55I hope so.
18:57Of course, as I already mentioned,
18:59we will be looking at the set that has the Donut Homer and Freddy Willy,
19:01and we also will be looking at the collector set
19:03that has comic book guy Lucy Lawless and Bart and Lisa.
19:05Of course, not to make sure that you're missing out on any of that,
19:07yeah, do all those things.
19:09The subscribe, the bell, the most important thing.
19:11Keep your peepers peeled to this channel.
19:13There will be more videos coming your way.
