00:00What is going on with the transport in Manchester?
00:02Well, let's have a look, shall we?
00:04Hi, I'm Theo with Manchester World, and this is a video that I'm actually thinking about doing every week,
00:09so please let me know if you find it useful.
00:11Essentially, the point of the video is to keep you updated on all of the changes to Manchester's transport connections
00:17to make sure that you're never caught short.
00:19So, let's start then with cars this week.
00:23Now, there's actually been quite a lot of movement this week.
00:25Firstly, the M602 motorway is, for the first time in four years, going to have a maximum speed of 70mph.
00:32Now, the limit on that road has been 60 for the past few years as part of a test into how it would affect emissions in the city,
00:38and though there have been some positive findings, the top speed is reverting back to the norm
00:42as soon as all the signs have been removed from along the side of the road.
00:45Next, the roadworks that have been going on for over 12 months near the Stretford Mall are finally nearing completion,
00:50much to the relief of local residents and store owners.
00:54The changes will apparently serve to make the area greener and safer, with only a few weeks remaining on the project.
00:59Finally on the roads, Transport for Greater Manchester seem to be investing in clean diesel buses
01:03to help cut down on emissions from public transport, rather than the initially planned electric buses,
01:08with the facilities not currently at the depot to make that a viable option.
01:12On trains, the railway between Rochdale and Manchester is finally operating again
01:16following a near three-week period of closure due to the Castleton bridge replacement.
01:21Trains are running very frequently between the two places, with only the usual disruptions causing delays and cancellations.
01:27On to trams now, and this weekend we'll see some significant changes to the Metrolink network,
01:31with no trams able to run through Cornbrook at all due to vitally important rail replacement works that are taking place there.
01:38Now there are three bus replacement services that have been put out to account for the disruption.
01:43One is going to be going between First Wood and Victoria, one between Old Trafford and Piccadilly, and one between Eccles and Piccadilly.
01:50So that's all of the major transport news that you should need this week.
01:53I hope your days are full of empty roads and underlayed trains.
01:56But for now, from Manchester World, I'm Theo Houston-Betts.
