A high-scale drug operation based in Glasgow has been uncovered following an international investigation and a crime boss jailed for 20 years.

James Stevenson, known as the ‘Iceman’ pled guilty mid-trial over a plan to import 1kg blocks of cocaine into the city via banana boxes.

It has been said the Glaswegian ran a drug-trafficking operation on an industrial and global scale and has been linked to Ecuador, Spain, Abu Dhabi, London and Rochester in Kent.

The plan to import the drugs was initiated in a popular Alicante hotel in February 2020 when Stevenson met with a Glasgow fruit trader named David Bilsland.

Through a cross-border investigation plans were disrupted when French officers infiltrated an encrypted chat network in April 2020 and subsequently seized 18 consignments of bananas addressed to Glasgow Fruit Market between May and September 2020.

A number of associated have also pled guilty and are subjected to jail sentences.
