00:15Two days after dropping from the PBA playoffs,

00:18Meralko Bolts was able to win the opening night of the East Asia Super League.

00:24The Filipino squad led the visiting team of Macau Black Bears 97-85

00:30to secure their first win in the 2024-2025 EASL regular season.

00:37The all-star combo guard, Chris Newsome,

00:42led the team to score 18 points, 6 assists, and 3 steals.

00:48For us to have another opportunity,

00:50it's something that I told the guys that this is a blessing for us

00:53to be able to actually lose in the playoffs

00:57and to still have another chance to play in another league

01:00and to continue playing for the other teams that are out of the playoffs.

01:04They're on vacation already, whereas we still get to go to work

01:07and we still get to compete, and that's, at the end of the day,

01:09that's our job as a basketball player.

01:12Bolts' head coach, Luigi Trillo, said that his players are more motivated,

01:16especially since every game in this league

01:18is an opportunity for them to give glory to the Philippines.

01:22We carry the flag, right?

01:25These are the best clubs in Asia, so we have a responsibility,

01:29not only to our families, not only to Narauto,

01:32but we're carrying the PBA's name.

01:34We're carrying the Philippines' name, right?

01:37And it's a pride thing that we want to be the best in Asia.

01:42Meanwhile, San Miguel Beerman was not allowed to play

01:46against South Korea's Suwon KT Sonic Boom.

01:50SMB's next game is on November 13,

01:53when they will face Taiwan's Taoyuan Pawean Pilots.

02:00There will be a chance for Meralco to continue their momentum in the EASL

02:05when they face the Ryukyu Golden Kings of the Japan B-League

02:09on October 16.
