Syed Saddiq Syed Abdul Rahman has apologised to a former adviser of ex-premier Datuk Seri Najib Razak in full settlement of a defamation suit filed by the latter against him.

The former youth and sports minister made the apology to businessman Datuk Habibul Rahman Kadir Shah in the KL Sessions Court on Thursday.

The apology is part of the consent judgment recorded in court.

00:21I want to thank Habibul, thank the lawyers for not offering a session, a couple of sessions
00:28to reach this agreement of apology from my side and for agreeing to my apology.
00:39I believe the statement has been handed out. I must stick to the statement
00:44and beyond the statement, I think it's important to move forward.
00:50But while I move forward, it's also important to also acknowledge that when a mistake is made,
00:56the mistake must be admitted, must be mentioned in and outside of court,
01:02and the court may be on that must be corrected. That's exactly why the statement of apology
01:07has been read outside and will be shared outside.
01:11In the two-page statement, Syed Sadiq expressed his regret and hoped that the apology will help
01:16restore Habibul's good name and mend the professional and personal relationship between them.
01:21Habibul Rahman had sued the Muar MP over remarks the latter made at a press conference at the
01:26Sri Pacific Hotel in Kuala Lumpur in 2017 when he was part of Party Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia.
01:32Habibul Rahman was represented by Datuk Sri Dr Jahabardin Yunus
01:36and Nur Azrin Muhammad Zakir, while Lim Weijet appeared for Syed Sadiq.
