00:00 [Street noise]
00:10 Thank you very much to members of the press, family and friends.
00:16 [Street noise]
00:21 As a Malaysian, as a Sadiq, I respect the decision of the High Court and the High Court Judge.
00:28 [Street noise]
00:31 And with that respect comes a sense of consistency in defending the institusi kehakiman or the institution of justice.
00:51 And I'm not here to lambast, condemn or disrepute the institution of justice.
01:00 Because in the end, I'm like any other Malaysian and should be judged like any other Malaysian.
01:06 And on this matter, after discussion with my esteemed colleagues, lawyers,
01:14 we firmly believe that there's a strong case to be filed in the Court of Appeal to clear my name.
01:22 And I still insist that the best place to clear my name will be in the Court of Law.
01:31 And we look forward to filing the appeal immediately.
01:35 I also share my vision.
01:38 I believe in order to make Malaysia a great country, it's about building strong institutions which outlast personalities and partisanship.
01:48 But in order to be that group of leaders, you have to be whiter than white.
01:54 And I know the position which I'm in today.
01:57 And that's why I personally have made up my mind on what I intend to do in regards to my position as the President of MUDA.
02:06 And at 4pm, we will have a parties meeting to discuss about this.
02:13 And at 5pm, I will announce not just my decision but our collective decision.
02:19 But in Malaysian politics, in order to make this country a great country, you have to be whiter than white.
02:26 And if I don't stand by that principle, then I think I've abandoned the very reason why I joined politics to begin with.
02:34 And I will always remember that.
02:36 Thank you.
02:37 Mr. Rudy, your speech today has left a deep impression on me.
02:42 It left a deep impression on me.
02:45 And I think the appeal is not only about whiter than white, but also about the form of the appeal.
02:56 I need to accept criticism with an open heart.
02:59 Just like I need to accept the decision of the High Court and the judge today.
03:05 Because I cannot differentiate myself from other people who are also being judged in court.
03:12 That's why I want to clear my name in court.
03:15 But I admit and understand that today's decision is not an easy one to be passed.
03:20 That is a decision which is determined, even though we can stay of execution and conviction, but I need to appeal to the Court of Appeal.
03:28 And I accept it.
03:29 I accept it.
03:30 I accept the situation.
03:31 That's why I need to respect the decision.
03:36 And if there is criticism, mockery, or jealousy, I accept it.
03:41 Because in the end, I share it again, to become a good leader in Malaysia, you must be whiter than white.
03:49 YB, is it going to say that your position will move down?
03:56 So, are you going to keep in mind that you are going to step down from...
04:00 As I shared, do come over at 5pm during DPC.
04:06 I personally have made up my mind, actually even before the decision came in.
04:10 Because it is a matter of principle.
04:14 And I cannot preach something else but do something else.
04:19 I am beholden to my words and my principles.
04:22 And as I said, to build Malaysia is not about a person.
04:27 Some of the observers said that this is the beginning of the end for you and for your party that you founded.
04:36 What do you have to say about that? Is this the end?
04:39 As I shared, when I joined politics, it takes a certain iron in a person to really march forward to bring change to this country.
04:52 At the state which I am in, if I don't fit the standard of being whiter than white, I have a principled decision to make.
05:01 And until I clear my name in the court of law, I think that's a principled decision which I have to hold on to, to ensure that I don't lose sight of why I joined politics to begin with.
05:15 And in politics and in any party, no person is bigger than the institution.
05:20 Similarly in Malaysia, no person is bigger than our Malaysian institutions.
05:24 And that's why I respect the decision of the court and the judiciary.
05:28 An institution which I've defended and I will continue to defend, even if it is to my detriment.
05:34 This is not the end. What about your party? You're the only MP.
05:39 I believe, again, when it comes to party matters, we'll do a press conference at 5pm and at 4pm we'll have a meeting.
05:48 But just a very brief comment about that. Like a country, no person is bigger than a party.
05:54 Where will you hold the press conference?
05:58 Most likely at home, ex-officer, ex-party officer. Because we're low cost, high impact.
06:06 Because we don't have an official office, so it'll be there.
06:09 I'll share the address later. My media colleagues will get it.
06:14 Thank you all.
06:17 Thank you.
06:20 Jalan Jalan Jalan!
06:28 Thank you.
06:31 Thank you.
06:32 Thank you.
