A mushroom trip brings free-spirited Elliott face-to-face with her 39-year-old self. But when Elliott's "old ass" delivers warnings to her younger self, Elliott realizes she has to rethink everything about her family, life and love.

00:10The movie begins as 18-year-old Elliot, Maisie Stella, is out on a motorboat with her two
00:17best friends, Ruthie Maddie Ziegler and Roe Kurice Brooks.
00:25It is Elliot's birthday, and her family parents Kathy and Tom, Maria Dizia and Elan Gullam,
00:32and brothers Max and Spencer, Seth Isaac Johnson and Carter Trezolo, is waiting for her to
00:39come home to cut a cake, but she joins her friends camping after hooking up with the
00:45local barista, Chelsea Alexandria Rivera.
00:50The friends get shrooms from Roe's cousin and brew them into a tea for easier consumption.
00:57After a while, they start to trip out and dance.
01:01Ruthie and Roe do their own thing while Elliot finds herself sitting next to an older woman,
01:07Aubrey Plaza.
01:09She explains that she is Elliot at 39 years old, proving it by showing off a scar on her
01:17abdomen that she got as a child and by knowing that they both have one breast that's larger
01:23than the other.
01:25Young Elliot is shocked even though she realizes she is tripping hard.
01:30Young Elliot asks her older self about her future and is miffed to learn that she is
01:36nearly 40 and is a med student.
01:40She also asks her older self if she can kiss her, to which she obliges.
01:47Older Elliot tells her young self to spend more time with her brothers and to not take
01:53her parents for granted.
01:55She also warns young Elliot to not be with someone named Chad.
02:01They fall asleep together.
02:04Elliot returns home in the morning with Ruthie and Roe.
02:08She is a bit passive with Kathy until she learns that she missed the birthday cake.
02:15Elliot later meets up with Chelsea again and hooks up with her in the boat by the lake.
02:22They fall asleep there and Spencer comes to wake Elliot up since they have to do work
02:27on their farm.
02:30Later in the day, Elliot goes skinny dipping and finds a strange boy, Percy Hines White,
02:37swimming nearby.
02:39He is polite with her and jokes around with Elliot until he tells her that his name is
02:44Chad.
02:46Elliot freaks out and swims away.
02:49She goes on her phone trying to contact her older self and finds her number listed as
02:55My Old A.S.S.
02:58Elliot texts the number saying that she met Chad and the number responds warning against
03:04it.
03:06Elliot later calls the number and hears her older self talking.
03:11She is once again cryptic about why Elliot cannot talk to Chad.
03:17Elliot later goes swimming again and runs into Chad since he works on the land over
03:23the summer.
03:25He manages to make her laugh and she appears charmed by him, but she gets worried again
03:32and leaves abruptly.
03:34When Elliot talks to her older self again, Old A.S.S.
03:39Elliot's voice suddenly gets sad and hangs up before saying anything else about Chad.
03:46Elliot starts spending more time with her brothers.
03:49She joins Max in golfing and bonds with him, while she also spends time with Spencer and
03:56watches Saoirse Ronan movies with him.
04:00Elliot is surprised to find her family eating breakfast with Chad after they learn he works
04:05there.
04:07After an awkward meal, Elliot tries to get out of it by going golfing with Max, but he
04:14invites Chad to join them.
04:17While out on the course, Max lets it slip that their parents are selling the farm.
04:24Elliot is upset, even though she was not planning to inherit it, as it held emotional
04:31value to her.
04:33She vents about it to Tom, who also did not think that Elliot would care as much.
04:40She later talks to Chad about it while riding on his boat, and he offers his own perspective
04:47to make Elliot feel better.
04:49She then has them duck once they go under a bridge and they end up kissing, but Elliot
04:55panics again and leaves.
04:58Elliot tries to contact her older self, but gets no responses.
05:04She goes back to Ro and asks for the rest of the shrooms.
05:09Ro joins Elliot in the woods as she trips out alone.
05:14Elliot ends up hallucinating that Chad is there, and that she is Justin Bieber performing
05:20One Less Lonely Girl, and gives Chad a flower the way Bieber would at his concerts.
05:27Before she gets ready to leave, Elliot spends time with Kathy outside their house, overlooking
05:34the lake.
05:36Kathy shares a memory of Elliot when she was a child and how she would cradle her to sleep.
05:43Elliot then lovingly sits on Kathy's lap.
05:47The next day, Elliot talks to Ro and admits that she might be bisexual after developing
05:54feelings for Chad.
05:56She brings Ro and Ruthie to meet Chad as he is trying to sell his motorboat.
06:03After Elliot's friends leave, she joins Chad on the lake as they take the boat out, only
06:09for the motor to fall off into the lake while they are out there.
06:14They laugh about it and make it back to the docks, where Elliot admits to Chad, using
06:21a different guy's name, that she has feelings for him despite being told to stay away from
06:28him.
06:29They end up having sex.
06:31Chad brings Elliot back home.
06:34Emerging from the trees is older Elliot, who claims that she had to take a ton of drugs
06:41to physically appear before her younger self.
06:45Young Elliot says that she and Chad had sex, and that she has genuinely fallen in love
06:51with him.
06:53Older Elliot finally admits that the reason she didn't want her younger self to go to
06:59Chad is because he eventually dies, and the grief is too much for her to bear.
07:06She also tells young Elliot that she cannot save Chad no matter how much she tries.
07:13Young Elliot decides that she will go on to love Chad, no matter what.
07:19Chad comes back and is able to see older Elliot, whom young Elliot refers to as her uncle.
07:27Chad sees that older Elliot is sad, so he gives her a hug, and she holds him for the
07:34first time in what feels like forever to her before she leaves.
07:40Elliot and Chad cement their relationship with a kiss.
07:44The film ends with Elliot taking a ride on the lake one last time before she is ready
07:50to leave.
