The winter time can be a painful time or hotels, less people taking holidays means less business and so many hotels across Manchester need to make sure that they have a selling point.

Leven have exactly that, their deep ties to the community, great pastries and coffee and creative cocktails really set them apart - and the bedrooms aren’t bad either.

00:00Here at Manchester World we're all about bigging up independent businesses and Levin in the Gay
00:04Village is exactly that. It's based in this really cool old industrial building and we got invited
00:08down to try it out. But before I settled into my room I had a chat with one of the management staff,
00:13Jasmine. So the building itself historically was a con warehouse back in the industrial era,
00:19so it's got quite a lot of rich history to it and we've honoured the building itself,
00:23all of its original window work is still the building back then. We've got a lot of industrial
00:29air conditioning and stuff. We just want to honour the old and bring a bit of modernity to it as well.
00:35We're in the historical Gay Village which is a really cool and historical area where we host
00:42Pride every year. We do fun little pop-ups and we host people for Pride. We've got a real highlight
00:47on community and small businesses. For example we work with Saddleworth Brownies which is a
00:52wonderful couple that run it themselves. We really try and work with local supplies,
00:56even spirits. We've got Mouse Kingdom liqueurs. We really encourage all of our staff members to
01:01recommend things that they want to do around the area. Genuine people that have been to places and
01:07thought I think this guest will really like this. We've got a drink called the Respectful Vimto but
01:12it's a really cool drink. We use Manchester gin in it and obviously we use a bit of Vimto and it's
01:18probably our most Mancunian drink on the menu.
01:24So as much as the community is of massive importance to Leaven, equally important are the
01:29facilities and this is the room that I was put in. It was huge, really spacious and really classy too
01:34with an awesome view of the city. Some nice artwork and a fully stocked kitchen also which
01:39meant that you didn't have to go out to eat, you could save some money and stay in. To get to the
01:43bedroom you had to go up some stairs and the bed was incredibly comfy and I genuinely, genuinely
01:47had a top-notch time there and a great sleep. Leaning back into that community thing again,
01:52they also do two go-to-go bags at Leaven so there's no food waste and in the morning you
01:55can get a great breakfast of leftover croissant. Follow Manchester World for more. I'm Theo Hewson-Betts.
