00:07 at the enjoyment and experience you will have. You don't want to miss this one."
00:15 Manchester Day on Holiday is coming to the city centre streets this weekend for a jam-packed
00:20 day full of surprises and celebrations.
00:23 Everyone is invited to join in the day of fun this Saturday 29th July, where there will
00:28 be a whole host of activities including a helter-skelter, street artists, a craft market
00:34 and much more.
00:35 The city centre will be the focus point of all the fun from 12 till 6pm before the party
00:41 moves up to Stevenson Square in the Northern Quarter for a brand new night-time showcase.
00:47 We spoke to Councillor Pat Carney, the Chair of Manchester Day, to find out more about
00:52 this year's celebrations.
00:53 "As you know, we've stepped back from doing a parade this year for a variety of reasons,
00:58 not least because Albert Square is out of use. And this one though presents, it looks
01:05 to me like seven Manchester Days. We've got six zones you can choose from and it's mainly
01:11 focused on families and kids in Manchester because they always come out and support us
01:16 on Manchester Day. I don't think Manchester has seen anything like it really and that's
01:20 why I'm so excited about it. And we do it all the time to allow Mancunians to celebrate
01:28 their identity, celebrate their city and also give all the kids great memories of growing
01:33 up in Manchester. I love making sure we have loads of events for families and kids. And
01:39 also, on a serious note, the area I represent, literally kids don't go on holidays. I mean
01:44 they're struggling week to week and the idea of holidays is unrealistic. Up in St Collier's,
01:49 I mean kids don't go on holiday there. They really don't. I'm not saying no kid goes on
01:56 holiday but generally kids don't go on holiday there. So it's nice to see them come into
02:01 City Centre, particularly for the families and youngsters who don't have lots of choices
02:06 over summer. I think they'll just have a great time. I can't wait. I won't be able to sleep
02:11 tomorrow night because it's like Christmas for me. It is the new Manchester Day but I
02:15 can tell you exclusively the Manchester Day parade will be back. That's not gone. The
02:22 Manchester Day parade will be back. We thought like, oh let's try and get an overarching
02:27 event for Manchester. And you know Manchester Day just popped into our heads and it's been
02:35 really successful in connecting all corners of the city and just the variety of groups
02:42 and talent in Manchester. It's really taken us by complete surprise over the years. So
02:49 it's great. And I don't think any other city, I thought all the other cities would be in
02:53 on it, having their day as well. So I think we're still alone that we've got a celebration
02:59 of Manchester identity.
