00:00Inside Man is when we start to unpack Oz playing two sides.
00:06He's playing the Maronis and he's playing the Falcons.
00:13Sophia walks into a very misogynistic situation.
00:16I mean, the mob's never been very friendly to women
00:19and rarely are women inside the room.
00:21And so you realize how difficult this is for her.
00:24She's coming back home and not feeling welcome.
00:27Home is its own form of jail for her.
00:30We get the sense that the story that everyone else tells about Sophia
00:34isn't necessarily the right story, but it is the one that has stuck.
00:39At the beginning of 102, Sophia walks in
00:42and Oz sees somebody that he can align himself to.
00:45He's always playing all these different characters to his advantage
00:49and switching, you know, on a dime.
00:51There should be you in there calling the shots.
00:54Oz is still trying to navigate his way through
00:57the aftermath of Alberto's death.
01:00As he's doing that, he realized that he can leverage
01:04the Maroni family as a tool in order to gain more power.
01:09One ends where he gives Sal his ring back,
01:12but he's actually setting Sal up to have to take the fall
01:14for Alberto Falcone's death.
01:16And meanwhile, he's promising the drops business to the Maronis.
01:20I claim Alberto. You make good on the drops, you promise.
01:23Sal's easily manipulated. He knows Oz is up to something.
01:26What is it you're really after, Oz?
01:29Sal looks like he's in control and he knows exactly what he's doing
01:32and trusting Oz, but Mrs. Maroni knows better.
01:40Sal fell in love with a woman from Iran,
01:43and she learned to love his Italian culture.
01:46To me, that felt more unique and made it more specific than other depictions.
01:51Obviously, Sal was so smitten by her, he's obsessed with her,
01:55he loves her still, and he's replaced his entire Italian mafia family
02:00with the Persian mob, which I just think is so terrifyingly original.
02:06Nowadays, Persians slash Iranians are big players in the international arena.
02:13Therefore, I think they now can be a part of the mafia life in Gotham City as well.
02:20Why not?
02:22The FEMA heist is a plan fully designed by Oz.
02:25If everyone did what they were supposed to do,
02:27he would have been able to get out having all his enemies killed.
02:32There's a wrench in the plan in that Gianni Vitti decides to put him
02:35into the one car he doesn't want to be in.
02:42He can no longer operate from the sidelines.
02:45He has to make a choice, kill all of the Maronis or kill all the Falcons.
02:51So for FEMA heist, our team developed these flash guns
02:54where they look like regular guns, but they have an enormously bright camera flash
02:59that could be triggered by the actors so that they can wield it
03:03and feel that flash of light as they pull the trigger.
03:06We felt this was a really unique approach to doing gunfire
03:10because for safety, it helps us not use real guns on set.
03:15After watching the FEMA heist,
03:17we felt that there would be something more playful for Oz
03:20and we found this great Bobby Darin song.
03:36Call Me Irresponsible seems so perfect for how violent the sequence was.
03:47Let's go! Let's go!
03:53I think the Bobby Darin song is brilliant because it says,
03:55this is who this guy is.
03:57Even though we're experiencing this heist, it's really the story of Oz
04:00and why he is able to survive.
04:02Hey, hey, hey!
04:04You gotta adapt. You gotta respond to the environment, the situation.
04:06You gotta kick on your feet. You gotta be quick.
04:08This is our show. This is the type of stuff we're gonna do.
04:11It can be extremely violent. We can also have a wink and a nod.
04:14Oz is charming and he's also despicable.
04:16It's all sort of in service of Oz as a character
04:19and creating that sort of blanket tone for the show.
