00:00In episode three, Sofia and Oz really team up together,
00:05and it's also Victor's episode.
00:11I always viewed Victor as the heart of our show.
00:13Aguilar is a family name.
00:16I wanted to represent Latinos because I'm half Mexican,
00:19but Renzi's Dominican,
00:20and so I made Victor half Mexican and half Dominican,
00:23and that was something that was really important to me
00:25to see depicted.
00:26He's a 17-year-old kid from Crown Point,
00:29not necessarily the best circumstance.
00:30It's really one of the worst neighborhoods in Gotham,
00:32and we find out exactly what happened with his family.
00:40That's the first time we see Victor
00:42outside of the influence of Oz.
00:44It feels separate from everything else in Gotham.
00:48It's very golden in color,
00:50and the family is very warm
00:52and introduces us to the love that Victor had,
00:55and then we watch him lose it.
01:00And that leaves him basically orphaned
01:03in a pretty desperate situation.
01:05I'm sorry.
01:06Which is right when he runs into Oz.
01:08Don't move, you twat-faced little prick!
01:11Talk about a power vacuum.
01:12I mean, there's an emotional and psychological
01:15and existential vacuum in Vic's life.
01:18Now Vic is without, he's a man alone.
01:20The two of them are men alone in this kind of broken world.
01:24We never discussed your father.
01:26Broken world.
01:28We never discussed your salary.
01:30What do you say we start you on one a week, huh?
01:341,000 a week?
01:35Someone living in desperation
01:37and then having that chance to grab at more,
01:40it's this kind of dark American dream
01:42that so many gangster stories are about,
01:44and there's a moment where Vic could run away.
01:48Vic wants to be with his girlfriend, Graciela,
01:51who we're finding out about for the first time.
01:53We knew he's lost his family.
01:55We didn't know what happened to his girlfriend.
01:57You could come with me.
01:59I'm not sure that he'd let me go.
02:01Who, your boss?
02:02He has this crossroads choice.
02:04He feels, in a way, as if he has been kidnapped by Oz.
02:08Setting up that anxiety,
02:10those are like the kind of connections
02:12that go from the flood,
02:13then that scene between Vic and Graciela
02:15where he has a chance to get out,
02:17and then the panic attack.
02:20That Pebble-Lisvile connection was a huge thing
02:24in bringing the whole story and the whole episode together.
02:27There's been so many permutations of that scene
02:31and how much we see Victor, flashbacks,
02:34other dancers on the floor.
02:35It's been a real challenge, but it's also my favorite scene.
02:40You were more than your father ever had.
02:42My dad would be ashamed of me.
02:44You want to know what's shameful, Vic?
02:46Working your whole goddamn life,
02:47having nothing to show for it.
02:49That scene, it's the heat of the moment.
02:50Victor was vulnerable enough earlier in that episode
02:52to open up about his parents,
02:53and Oz kind of throws it back in his face.
02:55Of course, first instinct, I'm out of here.
02:57I can go off with this girl that I love
02:59and go start a new life.
03:01Then screw you, that's what I'm doing.
03:02I don't want to be here under the gun the rest of my life.
03:05And you're starting to realize
03:06that Oz actually has developed feelings for Vic,
03:09that he has a kind of affinity.
03:10He thinks of him almost like a family member.
03:13Then there's a turn that happens with Vic.
03:16He comes to the realization
03:17that he's not necessarily under the gun.
03:19He finally has a chance to be something,
03:23to feel important,
03:24to feel like you're really in the game.
03:26Victor starts to see it as more of an opportunity.
03:31One of the things that allows Sofia and Oz
03:34to kind of come together in those initial episodes
03:36is that they're these characters who everyone looks to
03:39as if there's something other about them,
03:41and so you see them deeply wanting a kind of vengeance.
03:45Was it worth it?
03:46What's that?
03:48What you did to me.
03:50There was a history between the two of them,
03:52a direct history,
03:53and there was a kind of a sense of kinship.
03:57They make a good team.
03:59They both complement each other
04:01and bring out sides of each other
04:04that I think the other one needs.
04:06I'm fucking sorry for everything that's happened to you.
04:09You meant something to me.
04:11Still do.
04:12That always was an important scene for all of us
04:15in that we all knew that the door to Oz's humanity
04:18is still open, and he's still able to reach out
04:22and try to connect with another person.
04:27Don't move! Don't fucking move!
04:29Oz, you think he can pay us?
04:32You realize how difficult this is for her.
04:35The one guy she thinks she maybe can trust,
04:37even though she knows that that's a dicey situation
04:41he screwed her over.
04:43We gotta fucking go now!
04:44What about Sophia?
04:45Fuck!
04:46Leave her!
