00:00The prosecution witnesses in the 2.28 billion ringgit 1MDB trial at the KL High Court
00:08had given inconsistent and contradictory evidence against Datuk Seri Najib Razak,
00:13his defence team argued on Monday.
00:16Lawyer Wan Azwan Ayman Wan Fakhruddin, who represented the former premier,
00:20said the inconsistencies and contradictions in the testimony of former 1MDB CEO
00:26Mohamed Hazem Abdulrahman made him a non-credible and unreliable witness.
00:32He further said that Mohamed Hazem, who was the 10th prosecution witness,
00:36deliberately took action to conceal 1MDB's financial losses from audit firm KPMG
00:42and played a crucial role in ensuring the firm's termination.
00:46He said Mohamed Hazem admitted that the decision to replace KPMG was strategic,
00:52aiming to bring in auditors who would be more compliant with management's directives
00:57and less likely to uncover financial discrepancies.
01:00Wan Azwan was making his submission at the end of the prosecution's trial.
01:05The defence further submitted that the testimony by the 47th prosecution witness,
01:11Bank Negara Malaysia analyst Adam Arif Mohamed Roslan,
01:15should also be made inadmissible as he was not a witness of fact nor an expert witness.
01:22Wan Azwan said the witness himself had confirmed that the money trail analysis
01:27could be undertaken by anyone, only showing that the matter did not require specialised knowledge.
01:33The hearing before Justice Colin Lawrence-Sikara resumes on Tuesday.
