We speak to some local record store owners, and fans of Oasis about the band, different vinyl records and what they think of the return.
Transcript
00:00Yeah, I was a massive Oasis fan. I went to Nebworth, which is like the famous gig they did was about 300,000 I think.
00:09And I went to, I saw them, it was cool as well. Yeah, and I loved them. Yeah, yeah, yeah, they were like,
00:17I just felt there was something really different and there was just a buzz around them.
00:21Yeah, so I was a big Oasis fan back in the day.
00:24These are like, they're like CD box sets that are singles from Definitely Maybe and singles from What's The Story, Morning Glory.
00:30So, and these came into the shop a few weeks ago. I think they're quite, they're quite rare.
00:34We have had some quite rare Oasis vinyl in here as well.
00:38We had Familiar to Millions, which is really rare, which unfortunately we sold a couple of weeks ago.
00:43Familiar to Millions, we sold that for four, six, five, which is, yeah, I mean a lot of money.
00:48And it was quite, it came in with a collection about a year and a half ago.
00:51And was that after or before the announcement?
00:54That was before the announcement. That had been in the shop for about a year.
00:57So I think there was, there has been an interest online, so I think we sold that.
01:01Due to obviously what's going on with Oasis now.
01:04But, you know, generally we've got all the reissues in stock.
01:08They sort of sell steadily, I wouldn't have said since the announcement,
01:12about their, obviously they've got back together.
01:15It's made a massive amount of difference for us as a shop.
01:18So I'm a bit older than Oasis.
01:21So I was collecting records in the very late 70s, and I've never stopped.
01:26But, yeah, Oasis came along obviously in the very early 90s.
01:30And I remember seeing them at the venue in New Cross,
01:35when they, I think they'd only brought out maybe one or two of their singles.
01:39I don't think the first album had come out at that stage.
01:42And you knew there was something special about this band.
01:45They were already, they were being hyped about the attitude between two brothers.
01:50But the music seemed to be quite interesting as well.
01:54This was pre-Britpop, it was just, it seemed to be a throwback to the 60s and 70s.
02:00What do you think of them coming, what do you think of the comeback?
02:03Do you think it's a good thing for them, for music?
02:06I think for them, financially, it's an amazing thing.
02:11In general, I don't know.
02:14If it gets a few headlines about records and music in general, then it's a good thing.
02:21If it's all about them and just hyping them up and them making a huge amount of money,
02:29well, I'm less impressed.
02:33If I could go, I would go.
02:35But I'm not willing to pay £500 for a ticket.
02:38Like I said, I saw them back in the day.
02:40I'm sure it'll be amazing.
02:43And I think it's obviously financially motivating,
02:47but I know the people who go there will actually...
02:50Yeah, I mean, they have a fantastic life.
02:52And you know, music at the time, the first two albums,
02:55were just, yeah, they were something else.
02:57Just something really different.
