00:00The only genuine goal is the one that fulfills your life.
00:10Obviously when you are talking about having goals, you are talking about having goals as a person.
00:22You are born, you are living, you take yourself to be a person and you are talking about goals of that person.
00:31Essentially you are asking what is worth doing. Essentially you are asking what is worth taking as a goal.
00:38What is it that we are usually engaged in?
00:45Feeding our stomachs and feeding the stomachs of those who are related by blood to us.
00:51That's what our life really is. Fundamentally that's what we live and work for.
01:02So what must be the goal of life then?
01:06The goal of life is liberation.
01:08There is no other reason why you are born.
01:17You are born into suffering and you want to totally lapse out of the suffering.
01:23That is the goal of life. Nothing else.
01:29This is the month March when Bhagat Singh, Rajguru and Sukhdev were hanged.
01:34Do you know what was the age of Bhagat Singh?
01:3721 was when he lobbed that bomb and 23 was when he was hanged.
01:46The goal of life is to not end as that which began the journey.
01:52You started your life journey with wails and tears.
01:56The goal of life is that when you go, you should go with a smile.
02:02When you die, you must have known that the purpose of life is fulfilled.
02:10You are no more carrying the same tendencies, the same sufferings, the same attachments, the same illusions that you were born with.
02:22You need to look sharply, be very attentive, not have prejudices in mind.
02:29Forget for a while that you are meant to behave in such and such way.
02:35Just look at the facts and then it will be all very very clear.
02:42Then you decide what your goals must be.
02:44Then you decide what your work must be.
02:46A work is worth doing if it liberates you.
02:54If it doesn't liberate you, it is going against the overall purpose of life.
02:58And you will have only more suffering as a punishment.
03:03That's how you should look at your work.
03:05Is it liberating you?
03:07Is it challenging you?
03:09Is it breaking you down?
03:12If not, then that work is not worth doing.
03:16Work that doesn't challenge you, change you and destroy you is not work at all.
03:24What do you mean by selfless work?
03:29Work that dissolves the self.
03:32That is the meaning of selfless work.
03:36Otherwise, there is nothing called selfless work.
03:41You have talked of the freedom fighters.
03:43The greatest of freedom fighters, the real freedom fighters had an all-encompassing vision.
03:51Their vision definitely included the freedom of the political country but went far beyond that.
03:58I think it was Bhagat Singh when his mother asked him, why don't you get married?
04:03He replied, I am already married and her name is freedom.
04:08Now, it behoves a Bhagat Singh not to get married to a woman because he has committed himself to freedom.
04:16They wanted freedom for man himself.
04:23It was not merely freedom for a political unit.
04:26Of course, freedom for the political unit is important.
04:29But one doesn't stop at that.
04:31Man must be liberated.
04:34And for man to be liberated, all that which challenges and subjugates man must be fought.
04:41And therefore, they fought.
04:44Go and ask a Bhagat Singh what he doesn't like.
04:47He will say, I do not like chained individuals.
04:50Go and ask a Tagore what he wants.
04:52He will say, where the mind is without fear.
04:57It's such a beautiful poem.
04:58A mind without fear.
05:01That's what the greatest freedom fighters fought for.
05:07It requires the guts of a Bhagat Singh.
05:09You know, chicken-hearted people.
05:11If you are adamant upon remaining that, then remain that.
05:13You are on the hot seat.
05:15Your life.
05:19Choose your work with care.
05:22Selfless work means work that leads to dissolution of the self.
05:29Because dissolution of the self is the only genuine purpose of life.
05:39Figure out in your case what really challenges you.
05:44Figure out what is it that you need to do to fight and overcome the subjugating falseness.
05:56And that's how one should pick up profession, work and goals.
06:00It cannot be the same for everyone.
06:02Work will differ.
06:04But whatever work you choose must lead to liberation.
