01:08The story begins with a cynical Javier who is about to break up with his girlfriend at

01:14However, an interruption from one of his previous girlfriends reveals that the setup is a consistent

01:20He has a long history of breaking up with people, seemingly without any reason, just
01:24because he doesn't see a future with them.
01:27Though his ex-girlfriends seem to take this excuse simply as just a sign of what they
01:30assume are Javier's commitment issues, it is instead the simple truth.
01:35From the young age of 16, when Javier had his first kiss, he has been able to see the
01:39future of his relationship with whomever he kisses.
01:43Ever since his first heartbreak, he has learned to heed his prophetic first-kiss visions and
01:47thus never lets his relationships get past anything casual.
01:51Things take a sudden and unexpected turn when a blind date goes wrong.
01:56It ends with Lucia and Javier sharing a drunken kiss.
01:59As a montage of a magical, fairytale romance unravels inside his mind, Javier realizes
02:04with stark certainty that Lucia is the love of his life.
02:08After that night, their friendship progresses, and the pair start to feel a yet untapped
02:12chemistry between them while Lucia doubts her relationship with Roberto.

03:22both brought on by his earlier vision, start to strain their relationship.

03:29Following his first kiss with Lucia, Javier sees his future with her.
03:33After years of failed, dead-end relationships, his future with Lucia is unlike any other,
03:38promising a long, happy life together.
03:41As he spends more time with her, he realizes that her relationship with Roberto is not
03:45completely fulfilling.
03:46Therefore, when they eventually break up, it's only a matter of time before Javier and
03:51Lucia end up together.
03:53They've been together for a long time, their relationship evolving from a spur-of-the-moment
03:57hookup to a strong, reliable life spent together.
04:01Javier is content in this relationship because, for the first time in his life, he knows that
04:05it won't end.
04:07Throughout the story, characters often paint Javier out to be a skeptic who can't seem
04:10to be able to ever commit to relationships.
04:13But while Javier may be a skeptic, he is also a hopeless romantic.
04:18He wants a true love romance, but because of his prophetic abilities, he can never fully
04:22commit to anyone because he already knows how it will end.
04:26He does have commitment issues, but not because he doesn't want to commit, he just can't.
04:31Why would he put time and effort into a relationship he already knows is doomed from the start?
04:36So when Lucia presents the opportunity for a fruitful relationship, Javier is all-in.
04:41But the worst part, of course, about knowing exactly how a relationship will unfold, is
04:46knowing exactly how a relationship will unfold.
04:49In his professional life, Javier constantly deems writer Sansol's current literary endeavor
04:54as not good enough because he thinks it's formulaic and uninteresting.
04:57It's a bad book because it feels like something Javier has already read before.
05:01Similarly, although Javier and Lucia's relationship is wonderful without any obvious complications,
05:07it will always be predictable to Javier because he's seen it before.
05:11Only when Lucia tries to throw Javier a surprise birthday party and Javier does a spectacularly

05:46Ultimately, neither is fulfilled and satisfied and they realize they'll be happier with different
05:51people leading to their breakup.
05:53Who does Javier end up with?
05:55All of Javier's relationships fail and even when he finds the one that logically should
05:59have been it for him, it still ends up slipping away from him.
06:03Javier's gift of being able to see the future when examined closely reveals itself to be
06:07instead a curse.
06:09If you know how a story will end, you can't enjoy it.
06:12The narrative repeatedly tries to convey to the audience the importance of uncertainty
06:16and unpredictability.
06:18In fact, Ariana's whole character is basically the personification of wild, impulsive choices.
06:24The same is why that when Javier kisses Ariana, he sees nothing.
06:28There is no future prophesied to him, what he sees instead is just them together in the
06:32moment.
06:34At first, Javier misinterprets it to mean his prophetic abilities are gone now that
06:38he has supposedly found the one.
06:40But this theory is eventually questioned when Javier realizes Lucia and him weren't meant
06:44to work out.
06:46Throughout his life, Javier never got the opportunity to find an actual meaningful romantic
06:50relationship that challenged him and kept him on his toes, Ariana, however, in true
06:54manic pixie dream girl fashion, embodies spontaneity.
06:58Narratively, she was everything Javier was not.
07:01She took risks, something Javier never did in his love or professional life.
07:06She constantly surprises Javier with her reckless, eclectic view of life.
07:11In the end, Javier has let go of some of his inhibitions and starts living in the moment
07:15instead of the future.
07:17The final scene shows Javier kissing Ariana as we cut to a black screen.
07:21It is reminiscent of the couple's first kiss and implies that, like Ariana, Javier is also
07:26living in the moment.
07:28As a result, the romance between Javier and Ariana is unlikely to fizzle out.
07:32Javier has finally embraced uncertainty as a part of life.
07:36And so, when he runs after Ariana in the street and tells her he's willing to follow her wherever
07:41she goes, it's the final nail in the metaphorical coffin for the character development he underwent
07:45throughout the story.
07:47Moreover, Javier's quest of finding the one also concludes as he finally finds a partner
07:52to enjoy the small moments of life without thinking of the bigger picture.
