00:00Gorakan's goal of winning at least one parliamentary seat and two state seats in each state at
00:07the next general election can only be achieved by contesting in Malay-majority constituencies
00:12that are strongholds of PAS or Bersatu, according to political analyst Azrul Hadi Abdullah
00:17Sani.
00:18He said the target is unrealistic unless PAS and Bersatu are willing to concede seats in
00:22Perikatan Nasional-ruled states.
00:25Azrul added that Gorakan's relevance has diminished, especially among its Chinese supporters
00:29due to its alignment with PAS, an Islamic party.
00:33He also said the party holds little influence within PN and is seen as a necessary component
00:38to maintain a multicultural image.
00:40Meanwhile, O Ae Sun from the Singapore Institute of International Affairs said Gorakan's
00:45best chance would be for PAS to vigorously campaign for the party, but added that it
00:49may not attract non-Malay voters.
00:52University of Tasmania's James Chin, however, said Gorakan has no chance of regaining support
00:56from the Chinese community as long as it remains aligned with PAS, which is seen as
01:01promoting Malay supremacist views.
