00:00President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. has ordered the Department of Agriculture

00:05to vaccinate pigs against African Swine Fever.

00:09The D.A. has decided to complete the purchase of 600,000 ASF vaccines in December.

00:16Gav Villegas has the details.

00:21President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. has ordered the Department of Agriculture

00:26to speed up the rollout of the vaccine against African Swine Fever

00:30to stop the spread of the disease.

00:32President Marcos told Agriculture Secretary Francisco Chu Laurel Jr.

00:37that the ASF is still in the lead

00:39in the effort of the government to lower food inflation.

00:44In his press briefing,

00:45the D.A. has said that the Department of Agriculture

00:49will complete the purchase of 600,000 doses of ASF vaccines in December.

00:55The first 10,000 doses of vaccination will be finished by the end of the month.

01:01The schedule for the award for the next 450,000 doses is October 10,

01:08of which we will take delivery of 150,000 doses by then.

01:12But we hope to complete the procurement of 600,000 doses by the end of December this year.

01:18The D.A. and the Food and Drug Administration

01:22have already rolled out 150,000 doses of ASF vaccines

01:28from a Vietnamese-based company.

01:30The vaccines will be given to pigs from eligible commercial farms,

01:35semi-commercial enterprises, and clustered backyard farms.

01:39The D.A. has also given instructions

01:41to speed up the vaccination against ASF

01:44to increase the number of pigs.

01:47Hopefully, everything will be implemented on schedule

01:52and next year, we will be repopulating the land.

01:56The D.A.'s target is to bring back to Php 14 million

01:59the number of pigs in the country

02:01from Php 7.5 million as of now.
