Ahead of Helene, which forecasters expect to make landfall in Florida as a major hurricane, let's take a look at the history of other Helenes and H-named hurricanes.
Transcript
00:00All eyes going to be on Helene and looking at the past as far as H named storms, we do have
00:06six storms that have been retired here with the letter H. The last one being Hurricane Harvey
00:10back in 2017 that brought devastating impacts to the Texas Gulf Coast, especially the Houston
00:15metro area. But this is also a look at the tracks of all Tropical Storm and Hurricane Helenes.
00:22There have been multiple ones up to six here over the past. So the first one was back in 1958 and
00:28the last Tropical Storm or Hurricane Helene was back in 2018 but that one stayed well off to the
00:33east. So we are going to be watching Helene here as we head throughout the next couple days and
00:37into the weekend. Now H storms are pretty high. We have a lot of retired H named storms but by far
00:43the highest is the letter I has 13 retired storm names. So here's the latest update here on Helene.
00:50As we head throughout today it's going to continue to strengthen and intensify across the northwest
00:54Caribbean. There's lots of warm water down there. There's lots of moisture and low wind shear which
00:59is the perfect combination for tropical storms and hurricanes to quickly intensify. So that's
01:04exactly what's going to happen and by Wednesday by tomorrow, especially this time tomorrow,
01:08it's going to rapidly intensify into a major work forecasting, a major category two if not
01:13category three hurricane. And then it looks like it's going to make landfall as a major hurricane
01:18across the Florida coast late Thursday into early Friday morning. Looks like right now the latest
01:23update is going to be about 8 to 10 p.m. eastern time for landfall on Thursday and we are going to
01:28have our team of trackers out to bring you the latest there along the coast. So the current track
01:32right now tropical storm but it does look like yes it will quickly intensify into a strong category
01:37three hurricane as it makes landfall late Thursday evening. You can download our IQ weather app to
01:41stay up to date with the latest.
