Then the two inherit a bikini shop on a gorgeous beach, staffed by gorgeous saleswomen. Todd loves it, Alan wants to sell it. But the shop and a staffer grow on him. Alan's jealous fiancée convinces him to sell the place, but Alan begins to regret both the sale and his engagement, so he, Todd and the employees plot to get their shop back.

00:00:00...Northern Chicago University.
00:00:05Your university has trained you well for the responsibilities that lie ahead.
00:00:11Walk proud.
00:00:13Fear not.
00:00:14That 62% of you will not be able to find a job of your liking.
00:00:18Alan, I can't believe you. It's graduation day.
00:00:22I know, but that 94% of today's successful business heads never attended college.
00:00:30Congratulations, Alan.
00:00:43Oh, hi, Uncle Dave.
00:00:45Oh, thanks a lot.
00:00:48How was your trip out here?
00:00:49Oh, it was just fine.
00:00:51The last time I saw you, you said you couldn't wait to get out of Chicago after graduation.
00:00:55You were going to take a year off and see the world.
00:00:58Yeah, I guess that was a lot of kid stuff.
00:01:03Well, anyway, that was before I met Jane.
00:01:07Uncle Dave?
00:01:09This is Jane.
00:01:12We're going to be married in September.
00:01:14At the Belton. Our colors are pink and gray.
00:01:17I'm very pleased to meet you.
00:01:23You two must be so proud of Alan.
00:01:25Oh, yes.
00:01:27He's our pride and joy.
00:01:29Guess one out of two isn't so bad.
00:01:32Yes.
00:01:34How is Todd doing?
00:01:35Have you heard from him lately?
00:01:37And I spent the whole day looking, but there's simply nothing.
00:01:40It's livable under 150,000.
00:01:43150,000? No, Jane, that's...
00:01:44I'm going to ask Daddy to give you a raise.
00:01:46But Jane, I haven't even started working for him yet.
00:01:49Jane, honey, your diet.
00:01:52Mother!
00:01:53Jane, I'm not the one who insisted on buying a $2,500 wedding dress.
00:01:57Two sizes too small to give myself a goal.
00:02:01But the wedding's three months away.
00:02:02Jane.
00:02:03There's plenty of time.
00:02:05Right, Daddy?
00:02:07Whatever you say, princess.
00:02:09How's my future son-in-law?
00:02:11Oh, just fine.
00:02:12I want to thank you again for giving me this wonderful graduation party, sir.
00:02:15Quite all right, Alan.
00:02:17After September, no more of this sir business.
00:02:21You may call me Mr. Rutledge.
00:02:25Except, of course, the plant.
00:02:28Daddy.
00:02:29What?
00:02:30There's something I want to talk to you about.
00:02:32Now, I'm not sure that Alan's starting salary is realistic.
00:02:35I mean, just to get by, the minimum amount to buy a...
00:02:39Princess, you know what my starting salary was?
00:02:41Oh, Daddy, I'm...
00:02:42Excuse me, sir, but if I could just say one thing,
00:02:45I'm sure we'll be able to get by just fine in what you've offered me to start...
00:02:48Son, please.
00:02:50Now, let me handle this.
00:02:52But, Jane, I want your father...
00:02:54I'm thirsty.
00:02:55I think I'll have a refill, too, son, if you wouldn't mind.
00:03:03Sure.
00:03:12Excuse me, Mr. Rutledge.
00:03:18Can I help you?
00:03:19Yes, is there an Alan Finstead here?
00:03:21That's me.
00:03:22Telegram, sir.
00:03:24Sign here.
00:03:29Here.
00:03:51Hope it's good news.
00:04:03Mr. Alan Finstead,
00:04:05sorry to inform you that your aunt, Ida Miller,
00:04:07has passed away in an unfortunate drowning accident.
00:04:11Advise you come to California for settlement of the estate.
00:04:14Richard Remington, S.Y.
00:04:49S.Y.
00:05:00Well, it was very nice of you to pick me up at the airport, Mr. Remington.
00:05:03Oh, my pleasure, Alan.
00:05:04After all, your aunt and I were good friends.
00:05:08A remarkable woman.
00:05:09Crazy.
00:05:10Unorthodox.
00:05:12And not the world's best businesswoman.
00:05:14But, oh, how she loved that shop.
00:05:18Is this your first time in California?
00:05:20Oh, yes, it is, but I'm afraid I can only stay for a few days.
00:05:22I'm starting a new job next week.
00:05:30Oh, what a place to live.
00:05:33If I were only young and single like you.
00:05:37I'm engaged.
00:05:39Oh.
00:05:49This was your aunt's home.
00:05:51Ida was rather extravagant with her purchases.
00:05:56And I'm afraid she had a little trouble keeping up with her payments.
00:06:01Wow.
00:06:19Well, Alan, I think I should tell you now.
00:06:2251% of everything your aunt owned now belongs to you.
00:06:27You're kidding me.
00:06:28No.
00:06:30She felt that with your business education
00:06:32that you could be trusted with a controlling interest in her estate.
00:06:38So, who owns the other 49%?
00:06:40How's it going?
00:06:41Todd?
00:06:43Hey, look, I'm not going to lie to you.
00:06:45Oh, hi, Counselor.
00:06:46You want a brew?
00:06:48Please, don't get up.
00:06:49I'd rather remember you just as you are.
00:06:52Alan, you and your brother
00:06:56are now the sole owners of your aunt's entire estate.
00:06:59Why don't you get settled in,
00:07:01and I'll come back in a couple of hours
00:07:02and show you the rest of her holdings.
00:07:04Great, thank you.
00:07:05You.
00:07:06You.
00:07:07You.
00:07:08You.
00:07:10You.
00:07:11You.
00:07:12You.
00:07:13You.
00:07:15Oh, come on, man.
00:07:16I'll help you unpack.
00:07:18I got it in yesterday.
00:07:20So, are you still majoring in accounting?
00:07:21Todd, I graduated a few days ago.
00:07:23I was going to send you a card.
00:07:28Aunt died in this bedroom.
00:07:30Remember the summer she stayed with us
00:07:31when Mom and Dad were on vacation?
00:07:34Yeah, Todd, I remember it.
00:07:36It took me four years of psychotherapy to get over it.
00:07:39That's probably why she left everything to us.
00:07:45All right, let's hit the beach.
00:07:47Same old Todd.
00:07:57Same old Alan.
00:08:01So, tell me, Todd, what have you been up to lately?
00:08:04Well, I was up in Seattle for a while.
00:08:06I finally found a backer for my sister.
00:08:08She's got a job.
00:08:09She's got a job.
00:08:11She's got a job.
00:08:12She's got a job.
00:08:13I finally found a backer for my solar-powered hot dog stands.
00:08:17Then it rained for 60 days in a row.
00:08:18The guy backed out.
00:08:19So, I've just been traveling around,
00:08:21staying with friends.
00:08:23How about you?
00:08:26Todd, I have taken the most important step of my life.
00:08:31You finally got up the nerve to ask a girl out on a date.
00:08:35Yeah, and I'm getting married to her.
00:08:38You're kidding.
00:08:40No, really, I'm engaged.
00:08:41Her name is Jane.
00:08:42I've got a picture of her.
00:08:44It all happened so fast.
00:08:45We met on a blind date.
00:08:47And the next thing you know, I'm meeting her parents.
00:08:50You know, it's like Jane says, though.
00:08:52When you're sure, why wait?
00:08:55But, Alan...
00:08:56And, Todd, I'd really be honored if you'd be my best man.
00:09:02You really love her?
00:09:04Yeah.
00:09:07Sure.
00:09:08Sure.
00:09:13Hi.
00:09:15Hi.
00:09:16Hi.
00:09:18Hi.
00:09:19Hi.
00:09:20Hi.
00:09:21Hi.
00:09:22Hi.
00:09:24Hi.
00:09:25Hi.
00:09:26Hi.
00:09:27Hi.
00:09:28Hi.
00:09:30I'm a little nervous.
00:09:31Hey.
00:09:32You're not.
00:09:33I'm not nervous.
00:09:34Hi.
00:09:36Hi.
00:09:37Hi.
00:09:38Hi.
00:09:39Hi.
00:09:40Hi.
00:09:42Well, here we are.
00:09:44I think you boys may find this place rather amusing.
00:09:54Well, fellas, this is all yours.
00:10:03Mr. R, I think I found my calling in life.
00:10:07Really? And I had you figured for a brain surgeon.
00:10:16Oh, hi, Mr. Remington.
00:10:17Hello, girls.
00:10:18Hi.
00:10:19Gentlemen, I want you to meet your new sales force.
00:10:22Kathy, Cindy, and Ronnie.
00:10:26Hi.
00:10:27Girls, these are the new owners, Allen and Todd Finstead.
00:10:31They're Ida's two nephews.
00:10:33Perhaps she mentioned them to you.
00:10:35Yes, she did.
00:10:37Which one of you two is Todd?
00:10:39I am.
00:10:44Mr. Remington, I'd like to look over the store's lease as soon as possible.
00:10:47Oh, of course, Allen.
00:10:49Why don't you meet me at the office tomorrow morning and we can go over everything then.
00:10:53If you have to, you can bring him.
00:10:56No, that's okay. Allen's the businessman in the family.
00:10:59No kidding.
00:11:01See you tomorrow.
00:11:02Goodbye, everyone.
00:11:06Ah.
00:11:09Listen, Todd, would you mind...
00:11:11Todd, would you mind holding this end at the corner of the floor over there, please?
00:11:16Oh, sure.
00:11:18You have to measure the store.
00:12:06Ah!
00:12:11What a life.
00:12:13You and me living here, running a bikini shop.
00:12:18It's gonna be great.
00:12:23Of course, you and Jane can have Ann Ida's bedroom.
00:12:26I'll give you guys your privacy.
00:12:28Here, Todd, take a look at this figure.
00:12:30What about it?
00:12:32Well, what about it, Todd?
00:12:33Well, based on some ballpark estimations,
00:12:35this is how much you and I will divide when we sell the bikini store and the house.
00:12:39Sell them? Are you nuts?
00:12:42It's gonna be so much more fun staying right here.
00:12:47Fun?
00:12:49I'm a college graduate now, Todd.
00:12:51I have my future all planned.
00:12:54I had plenty of fun in college.
00:12:57I'll bet.
00:12:59Look, anyway, Ann Ida left me the controlling interest, Todd.
00:13:02She knew she could trust me to do what was best for us.
00:13:05Best for you, you mean.
00:13:08As for me, it was ordained that I live out the rest of my days right here.
00:13:21It's my destiny.
00:13:25Well, you can live out your destiny for about a week, Todd,
00:13:28but it's gonna take me to get everything taken care of.
00:13:41It's almost opening time.
00:13:43Don't you girls think you should be getting dressed for work?
00:13:45They are dressed for work, Ellen.
00:13:49Show them, girls.
00:13:54Oh, Todd.
00:13:57You can't expect to sell the merchandise
00:14:00unless the customer knows what it looks like when it's on.
00:14:05I don't have time to argue with you, Todd.
00:14:07I have to go over Ann Ida's books.
00:14:21All finished, young man.
00:14:23Gotta hand it to you.
00:14:25It's a very clever idea of yours, installing a two-way mirror for security.
00:14:30Too much shoplifting among kids these days.
00:14:33That's right.
00:14:35You can't be too careful.
00:14:56So keep it right here on KTNA Santa Monica.
00:15:04Hello.
00:15:06Welcome to Ida's Bikini Shop.
00:15:18Hey, Suri, the old size five rack.
00:15:22Yeah.
00:15:23You certainly are a size five.
00:15:25That's a mighty fine article of swimwear you've chosen there.
00:15:28However, I think you might find some of our other suits to be equally well-crafted.
00:15:37Yeah. Yep, here it is.
00:15:40The old dressing room.
00:15:43Well, I hope you'll find it comfortable.
00:15:45Uh, this is a new mirror we've recently had installed just for your convenience.
00:16:00Uh, if you'll excuse me, I'll just... I'll be, uh...
00:16:05I'll be going.
00:16:08I can't believe it, man.
00:16:10This is gonna be so great.
00:16:16I'm just glad that Aunt Ida is not around to see this.
00:16:27I'm sorry.
00:16:29I'm sorry.
00:16:31I'm sorry.
00:16:33I'm sorry.
00:16:35I'm sorry.
00:16:41Oh.
00:16:44Helen, if I ever get married, it's gonna be to a size five?
00:16:51Todd, you should be ashamed of yourself.
00:16:54I am. I'm ashamed. I'm ashamed.
00:16:57Sure.
00:17:05May I help you find something?
00:17:08I need a new bathing suit.
00:17:16How about this?
00:17:19You must be crazy.
00:17:23Honey, I want to get a suntan.
00:17:27Ah.
00:17:32I'm going out there.
00:17:34See if she needs any help.
00:17:52Ah!
00:17:57In case you're interested, Todd,
00:17:59I finished going over Aunt Ida's financial records last night.
00:18:02Yeah.
00:18:07Whoo! Whoo!
00:18:10Oh.
00:18:18It seems the bikini shop's been doing a decent volume of business,
00:18:21but it's been losing money all these years.
00:18:23Well, Aunt Ida spent much more on her extravagant promotions in her parties
00:18:27than she took in from sales.
00:18:29She had a lot of fun.
00:18:31She didn't know how to run a business.
00:18:36Can I put your hair down?
00:18:39Definitely.
00:18:46So, anyway, she poured all of her divorce settlement money into the store.
00:18:50When that ran out, she re-mortgaged the house to the hill just to keep the business going.
00:18:58What it means, Todd,
00:19:00is that we're going to have to work awfully hard to sell the store.
00:19:03You see, it's got to be turned into a profit-making business
00:19:06in order to attract a buyer.
00:19:11Now, I figure it'll take a couple of weeks to get everything taken care of.
00:19:15In the meantime, we can just live here.
00:19:20Now, you, Todd, can either help me out or not.
00:19:23It's up to you.
00:19:26It's no offense, darling, but I think living with you is going to drive me crazy.
00:19:35I said, no offense.
00:19:40She wears the sun for makeup
00:19:44And her tennis goondongs
00:19:49Hi, Ronnie. Hi, Ronnie.
00:19:51Hi.
00:19:53How was your cooking class?
00:19:55Not so good.
00:19:56Yeah, the teacher gave us a D on our project just because we're trying to be creative.
00:20:00What did you make?
00:20:02Pineapple inside-out cake.
00:20:04You want a taste?
00:20:06Um, that looks really delicious, but I just ate.
00:20:10Maybe Alan and Todd would like some.
00:20:13I bet Todd will.
00:20:16I think he's really cute.
00:20:18Yeah, but Alan's kind of a nerd.
00:20:21You know, he's so Mr. Businessman.
00:20:24I think he's really nice.
00:20:26He can't help it if he's smart.
00:20:28Yeah, well, if he's so smart, then how come he's getting married so young?
00:20:31God, I can't imagine being married at our age.
00:20:34Yeah, he's engaged.
00:20:36Yeah, you didn't know?
00:20:38No, I didn't.
00:20:41Hey, any new designs yet?
00:20:43Oh, see, they're not ready.
00:20:45So what else is new?
00:20:47Yeah.
00:20:48Uh, but Jane, I don't have a favorite style of cummerbund.
00:20:52Look, the wedding isn't until September.
00:20:54Couldn't you just pick one out for me, and I'll look at it when I get back?
00:20:57Oh, all right.
00:20:59But I wish that you could come home sooner.
00:21:04Daddy says his company has connections in California.
00:21:08And if you want, you can help me sell the store.
00:21:10Jane, I'd really like to do this on my own.
00:21:13Um, I'll be home as soon as I can.
00:21:16You better be.
00:21:18Talk to you tomorrow?
00:21:21Sure.
00:21:23Kissy, kissy, kiss.
00:21:28Wow.
00:21:30Kissy, kissy, kiss.
00:21:34Alan, you are in luck, man.
00:21:37I've been doing some brainstorming.
00:21:39I've come up with some great new ideas for improving business.
00:21:42Well, I'm really glad you want to help, Todd.
00:21:44But I've come up with my own ideas.
00:21:50Less expensive merchandise.
00:21:52No free gift wrapping.
00:21:55Longer hours.
00:21:57Alan, didn't they teach you anything about human beings in college?
00:22:01People want to have fun.
00:22:05This woman's name is Bertha Hilgard.
00:22:07And I think we stand a good chance of selling her the store.
00:22:10She's had no experience in retail.
00:22:13But she's always dreamed of owning a shop on the boardwalk.
00:22:17Well, let's hope it works out.
00:22:19Thanks a lot for your help, Mr. Reddington.
00:22:21Oh, thank you. It's been a pleasure serving you.
00:22:23Thanks.
00:22:32Well, look who's dressed like a grown-up today.
00:22:36Thanks a lot for dressing up, Todd. I really appreciate it.
00:22:46Oh, Saul, isn't this marvelous?
00:22:51Marvelous.
00:22:53Miss Hilgard, welcome to Ida's Bikini Shop.
00:22:57I'm Richard Remington.
00:22:59And this is Alan and Todd Vincent, the store owners.
00:23:03It's a pleasure meeting all of you.
00:23:04This is my attorney, Saul Levine.
00:23:06Hey, Saul. How do you do?
00:23:08Miss Hilgard, I've heard so much about you.
00:23:13I'm so pleased to meet you.
00:23:20Ah, what a darling look.
00:23:23Huh, Saul?
00:23:25Darling, darling.
00:23:26May we look around?
00:23:28Oh, yes, yes.
00:23:30Feel free.
00:23:35All right.
00:23:39Charming.
00:23:40Huh? Charming?
00:23:42Yeah, charming, charming.
00:23:51Oh, Saul, look. Isn't this lovely?
00:23:56It's interesting.
00:23:57Listen, I really think we ought to examine the books now.
00:24:01Books? Saul, books?
00:24:03I don't think that's necessary.
00:24:04They're doing excellent business here.
00:24:10Yo!
00:24:12I got a delivery here from Double Exposure Swimwear.
00:24:15Ah, I'll take that.
00:24:17Great.
00:24:29Hey, uh...
00:24:31Yes?
00:24:33I need a check.
00:24:35It's a C.O.D.
00:24:37Oh, yes.
00:24:38Wait a minute.
00:24:40Are you... you're trying to tell me that, uh...
00:24:43we don't have credit?
00:24:45Credit?
00:24:46Ida's Bikini Shop?
00:24:49Ha-ha-ha-ha-ha-ha-ha-ha-ha-ha-ha-ha-ha-ha-ha-ha-ha-ha-ha-ha-ha-ha-ha-ha-ha-ha-ha-ha-ha-ha-ha-ha-ha!

00:25:16Saul, maybe we better look at the books.
00:25:19Don't come back with books.
00:25:20Saul!
00:25:21I just wanted to get into crawling business like my best friend, Sissy.
00:25:25Come on!
00:25:26Oh, my gosh. So?
00:25:28The worst thing I've ever seen.
00:25:29Listen, couldn't you use a good patch light off?
00:25:31We can talk price.
00:25:33Hey, let's do business.
00:25:46Hey, Owen.
00:25:47How would you like to make 500 extra bucks this month
00:25:50that we can put back into the business?
00:25:52Sure, Todd. How?
00:25:54Kathy and Cindy and Ronnie were telling me how their rent just went up.
00:25:57So I thought, since we have so much extra room, we could just...
00:25:59They could move in.
00:26:00Wait a minute, Todd. No, there's no way they can move in here.
00:26:02Now, first of all, it's hard enough just you and I getting along.
00:26:05Secondly, how do you think Jane would like it
00:26:08if she knew that I was living with three girls?
00:26:11Yeah, I see what you mean.
00:26:13Well, good.
00:26:16There's just one problem, though.
00:26:18What's that, Todd?
00:26:21I heard you asked.
00:26:25All right!
00:26:27Oh, God!
00:26:29You're so nice. It's going to be so much fun.
00:26:31Ronnie will be here in a little while.
00:26:33Well, I'll take your stuff down to your rooms.
00:26:35It happens to be right next to mine.
00:26:37Hey, have you guys made plans for dinner yet?
00:26:39No, we haven't.
00:26:40I'll make it.
00:26:41Yeah, before me cooks.
00:26:42Come on, Kathy.
00:26:46See, Ellen? Our own private chefs.
00:26:49I hope you guys like tuna sandwich casserole.
00:26:52Oh, it's so good!
00:26:57Maybe just a little more of the crust.
00:27:00No.
00:27:06This stuff is great.
00:27:08I've never had tuna sandwich casserole made with Wonder Bread before.
00:27:10And mayonnaise.
00:27:11That's our secret recipe.
00:27:12Well, who feels like dancing?
00:27:14I do.
00:27:15Yeah, and there's this new place that opened up on Venice Boulevard.
00:27:19Um, I think I'll pass tonight.
00:27:23Me too. I never dance on a full stomach.
00:27:26Oh, well, come on, Cindy. Let's go get our stuff.
00:27:28Okay. I'll see you guys later.
00:27:30Um, Ellen, if you're not going to finish that, be my guest.
00:27:35Hey, Kathy, what's this place like?
00:27:37I don't want to be overdressed.
00:27:39Well, should we get rid of the evidence?
00:27:43Definitely.
00:27:49You know, I think it's nice you know what you want to do so early in your life.
00:27:55You know, you're the first person that said that to me since I've been out here.
00:28:00I mean, you've obviously already found the right girl.
00:28:03Obviously.
00:28:07And a college education's a real asset.
00:28:10I'm going to college part-time.
00:28:12You are? I didn't know that. What are you studying?
00:28:15Well, right now I'm studying art.
00:28:17But I'm trying to get into the Fashion Institute.
00:28:21I have this dream that I'm going to be a fashion designer.
00:28:24You're kidding. That's great.
00:28:26Do you have any designs yet?
00:28:28Only about a thousand.
00:28:31And I experiment on the machine in the back of the shop whenever I get the chance.
00:28:34Well, that's great.
00:28:36I'd like to see some of your designs sometime, if you don't mind.
00:28:40Oh, thanks, but...
00:28:43I never show my work to anyone. I guess...
00:28:46I'm afraid they'll say it's no good.
00:28:49Yeah, but you'll never know unless you try.
00:28:53Yeah, I know.
00:29:08Well, I guess this is the last of it.
00:29:11Would you excuse me, please?
00:29:16Sure.
00:29:23I think I'll just go take a jog on the beach before I go to bed.
00:29:27Oh, you go ahead. I have a lot of work to do.
00:29:46Hello?
00:29:47Mr. Remington? Hello, this is Alan Finston.
00:29:50Do you have a minute to go over some figures with me?
00:29:52Sure.
00:29:53Oh, thanks.
00:29:54This is the operator.
00:29:55I have an emergency phone call for Alan Finston from Jane Rutledge.
00:29:59Will you release?
00:30:00Yes, I will, operator. Thank you.
00:30:01Mr. Remington, I better get back to you.
00:30:03Yeah, of course.
00:30:06Jane?
00:30:08Oh, Alan!
00:30:11Jane, honey, nice and slowly.
00:30:13Take it easy now. Tell me what's wrong.
00:30:16It's the photographer!
00:30:18Jay Daniels!
00:30:20He's already booked for the night of our wedding!
00:30:25Jane, that's not the end of the world.
00:30:27We can get another photographer.
00:30:29But he's the best!
00:30:31He showed my brother's wedding and he always promised that he'd do mine!
00:30:38Oh.
00:30:39Well, Jane, if it means that much to you,
00:30:43I guess we could always change the date of the wedding.
00:30:46I already tried that!
00:30:48But then the caterer can't make it.
00:30:51And we have to have John.
00:30:53He's the only one that makes those cute little watermelon sculptures.
00:31:02Janey?
00:31:04Mother!
00:31:06I'm on the phone!
00:31:08Why are you talking in the kitchen?
00:31:11Jane, are you snacking?
00:31:13Mother, get off the phone!
00:31:15Right this instant!
00:31:19Alan, are you still there?

00:33:16Wait a minute. Wait a minute. That's okay.
00:33:18That's okay. We'll continue the party later today.
00:33:21All right.
00:33:24In our house, 1200 Ocean Beach Drive.
00:33:38Okay.
00:33:48Todd, I need one Bloody Mary, one Tequila Sunrise, and a Tom Collins.
00:33:52Coming up.
00:33:56And a Tom Kingsley.
00:33:58And I used to use number six for my face.
00:34:00Now I start with number four for my arm.
00:34:03And if I don't get too burned, I move down to number two.
00:34:07We don't use sunblock, do you?
00:34:09I once broke up with a guy because he used sunblock.
00:34:12Cindy, have you seen Ronnie anywhere?
00:34:14Well, I think she's upstairs.
00:34:16Margie, this is Cindy.
00:34:18She uses number eight.
00:34:20Oh, you do? Well, I use number eight, but only when it's really dry outside.
00:34:23It's too hot, you know, and I don't want to burn my face.
00:34:25You have a great tan. What else do you use?
00:34:36We're gonna have a party.
00:34:42We're gonna have a good time.
00:34:49Come on.
00:34:53Come on.
00:35:02Hello?
00:35:04I can't hear you.
00:35:06What do you mean, who's this?
00:35:08Who's this?
00:35:13Come on.
00:35:22Order?
00:35:24Thanks.
00:35:26What is it?
00:35:27Pork Char-Char.
00:35:30Come on. The sumo wrestling finals are on.
00:35:42Whoa.
00:35:44I didn't know Anaida had it in her.
00:35:48All right, this is it.
00:35:53She always said she wanted to go around the world.
00:35:57All right, this is the last button. This has got to be it.
00:36:07Anaida.
00:36:13Remington.
00:36:27Can I join you?
00:36:31Oh, God, don't let me wake up this time.
00:36:41Alan, um, I think you're getting dry.
00:36:46Yeah, maybe so.
00:36:50But while I am, I want to tell you something.
00:36:54I think I'm gonna be sorry when I sell the store.
00:36:58I mean, you probably wouldn't believe this,
00:37:00but I have had a lot of fun these past few weeks.
00:37:04I even started to enjoy being around Todd.
00:37:12I'm really gonna miss working with you girls.
00:37:16We're gonna miss you guys, too.
00:37:19Look, Ronnie, there's something I want to say to you.
00:37:27Well...
00:37:29It's...
00:37:31Well, it's just this.
00:37:36Alan!
00:37:38Alan, what's wrong?
00:37:40Alan, what is happening?
00:37:42Alan, what's wrong with you?
00:37:45Alan, Alan, what is happening?
00:37:48Alan, what are you doing? Are you okay?
00:37:54Hi, Jane.
00:37:56Alan, what's going on here?
00:37:58I came out here tonight because I thought you might be lonely.
00:38:01Oh.
00:38:03This is sort of a promotion for the store.
00:38:07Oh, Ronnie, this is Jane, my fiancee.
00:38:11Jane, this is Ronnie.
00:38:13She works in the store.
00:38:15Hi.
00:38:21I'm gonna leave you two alone.
00:38:23I'm just gonna go up to my room and change.
00:38:25You live here?
00:38:27I thought you knew.
00:38:29No, I didn't.
00:38:34Well, at least you have your own bedroom.
00:38:36Oh, no, I share it with the other two girls.
00:38:40I can't just tell them to leave tonight, Jane.
00:38:43They gave up their apartment.
00:38:45Okay, fine. Then we'll just go to a hotel.
00:38:54Hey, Alan, what's going on?
00:39:01Jane, this is my brother, Todd.
00:39:04Todd, this is my fiancee, Jane.
00:39:08Hey, Jane.
00:39:10Hi, Jane. Welcome to the family.
00:39:15Nice girl.
00:39:20And another shrimp cocktail for the lady.
00:39:27So, Daddy said to tell you that you drive a hard bargain.
00:39:31But you can have your first race after three months, honey.
00:39:35But, Jane, I didn't even ask for a race.
00:39:37Just take what's coming to you.
00:39:38Anyway, I haven't told you what the best news is yet.
00:39:41What's that?
00:39:43We now have a beautiful new home to move into right after the wedding.
00:39:47It's got tennis courts, a pool, maid service.
00:39:50And it's not gonna cost us a penny.
00:39:53You don't mean...
00:39:54My parents' guest house.
00:39:56Oh, Alan, you're always telling me to be more practical.
00:39:58And Daddy says we can live there for our first year.
00:40:00It's gonna be so much fun, Alan.
00:40:02And we can have dinner with my parents every night.
00:40:04Daddy told me to tell you that he wants to teach you tennis.
00:40:06Jane, I really don't think that moving in with you...
00:40:09I could hardly wait to start the decorating.
00:40:14What do you think about aqua, Alan?
00:40:16Jane, honey, you've been talking all through dinner.
00:40:21But now I'd like to say something to you.
00:40:23What, Alan?
00:40:27Well, now I know that we've had our future planned for a long time.
00:40:33But you should see how great it is living out here.
00:40:36It's so relaxing having a place on the beach.
00:40:39And I think if you gave it a chance, you'd really enjoy it, too.
00:40:44What are you saying, Alan?
00:40:46Well, just this.
00:40:49We could get married and then live out here.
00:40:53I really enjoy running my own store.
00:40:55And you could become involved, too.
00:40:57It may not be a whole lot of money at first, but after a while...
00:40:59I can't believe what you're saying.
00:41:02I've worked so hard to make these plans for us.
00:41:06And now you want to throw it all away on the beach.
00:41:10Star.
00:41:13I think you care more about those show-off salesgirls...
00:41:16than you do about anything else.
00:41:20No, no, Jane. That's not it, really.
00:41:23I've done everything I can to make you happy.
00:41:28I know that. I know, Jane.
00:41:32You promised me you'd sell the store right away.
00:41:46Excuse me, sir. Would you like to see this search right now?
00:41:49No.
00:41:50Not now. Of course.
00:41:54Maybe we'll just take a look.
00:42:03Alan?
00:42:07Was it good for you?
00:42:11Yeah, Jane. It was.
00:42:20Now, aren't you glad you decided to sell that store?
00:42:26Sure I am.
00:42:32Oh.
00:42:37I still feel nauseous from last night.
00:42:40Why'd you let me eat so much, Alan?
00:42:44I'm sorry you're not feeling very well, Jane.
00:42:46Maybe you should just take it easy today.
00:42:48I have a lot of things to take care of at the store, and you...
00:42:51Oh, no, you don't.
00:42:53This is my first time in California.
00:42:55You're taking me sightseeing, hon.
00:42:57But, Jane, if you're not feeling...
00:42:59I want to go sightseeing.
00:43:01You're not going to make me cry again, are you?
00:43:03No. No, you're right. Let's go sightseeing.
00:43:06Where would you like to go, Jane? Disneyland?
00:43:09No. Odeo Drive.
00:43:11Now, I'm going to take a shower, hon.
00:43:13Would you be a dear and call room service?
00:43:15I'd like some blueberry pancakes.
00:43:17Jane, you asked me to help you stay on your diet.
00:43:20I can't shop on an empty stomach.
00:43:22I'll start my diet right after breakfast.
00:43:32Sure you want to wait, Mr. Remington?
00:43:34Oh, yes, yes.
00:43:36Okay. See you later.
00:43:38Right.
00:43:40Say, hi.
00:43:42Jane and I were out shopping. I came as soon as I could.
00:43:44What's up?
00:43:45Alan, I think we have an excellent chance for a sale.
00:43:48Oh, no kidding. Who's the buyer?
00:43:50Well, his name is Eric Green.
00:43:52I don't know anything about him except that he has a lot of money,
00:43:55and he's willing to pay cash.
00:43:57He's coming by to see the place first thing in the morning.
00:43:59So I had the girls clean it up.
00:44:01Oh, yeah. Great idea.
00:44:03Thanks a lot, Mr. Remington.
00:44:04You bet. See you tomorrow.
00:44:06Shiny bubble.
00:44:08So, aloha, Mr. R.
00:44:10Aloha means hello and goodbye.
00:44:13Goodbye.
00:44:15From Hawaii.
00:44:17Pure cane sugar.
00:44:18No, you say pure cane sugar from Hawaii.
00:44:21Todd, what are you doing?
00:44:22We're talking very high-concept marketing strategy for tomorrow.
00:44:26Inside one of these balloons is a free trip to Hawaii, man.
00:44:29Buy a bikini, pop a balloon.
00:44:31Todd, this is ridiculous.
00:44:33We just had the place straightened up.
00:44:37Mr. Remington found a buyer.
00:44:42Wait a minute.
00:44:44I thought you were beginning to like what we had going on here.
00:44:47Todd, I never said I wasn't going to sell the store.
00:44:51It's Jane, isn't it?
00:44:57Alan, are you going to let the girl run your life?
00:44:59No, no, no one runs my life, Todd, including you.
00:45:02But why don't you just get rid of this mess you just made, okay?
00:45:05Because I say we're selling the store.
00:45:07Well, I say we're not selling the store. I think we should...
00:45:09Goddammit, Todd, it doesn't matter what you think.
00:45:12I'm not selling the store.
00:45:14I'm not selling the store.
00:45:16I'm not selling the store.
00:45:18It doesn't matter what you think.
00:45:20It never has mattered.
00:45:25I own 51% of this store, Todd.
00:45:31I guess I'd forgotten about that.
00:45:38Do whatever you want.
00:45:41Mail me my share in Hawaii.
00:45:48Okay.
00:46:02Todd, look out!
00:46:04What's going on?
00:46:06Oh, no!
00:46:19Hey, Mr. Green.
00:46:21I'm Richard Remington. We've talked on the phone.
00:46:24Child.
00:46:26Oh, yes.
00:46:28This is Alan Finston, the principal owner,
00:46:31in case you have any special questions.
00:46:33Oh, hello.
00:46:35If you'd like to, feel free to look around.
00:46:38That won't be necessary.
00:46:40The escrow papers, please. I'm ready to sign.
00:46:42Oh, yes, I have them.
00:46:44Mr. Green, before you decide,
00:46:46don't you think you want to look over the stock a little bit?
00:46:49No, thank you.
00:46:51Oh.
00:46:53Well, the books!
00:46:55Don't you think you'd better check those books?
00:46:57I'm not concerned with your books, Mr. Finston.
00:47:01Everything seems to be okay here.
00:47:03Hey!
00:47:34This way.
00:47:44So, Mr. Green,
00:47:47have you always been involved in retail?
00:47:51Retail?
00:47:55I find it utterly repugnant.
00:47:58No, I'm going to make a few structural changes to this place
00:48:02to this place and then turn it into a recruitment
00:48:06and meditation center for my organization.
00:48:10The Holistic Church of Truth and Tranquility.
00:48:15We are offering an alternative lifestyle
00:48:17for young people seeking inner peace
00:48:20through meditation, prayer,
00:48:24and forfeiture of all worldly possessions.
00:48:29Perhaps you and the rest of your staff
00:48:31might be interested in joining our church.
00:48:34You may find yourself seeking a new direction in life
00:48:38now that you will be unemployed.
00:48:43Good day.
00:48:48Mr. Green, wait a minute.
00:48:52I'm afraid I've changed my mind.
00:48:55I beg your pardon.
00:48:57This store is not for sale.
00:48:59Mr. Finston, you've already sold it.
00:49:03I own it now.
00:49:06No!
00:49:07Well, then I want to buy it back.
00:49:08Alan Finston, just once.
00:49:11Shut up, Jane.
00:49:16Mr. Green, how about it?
00:49:21Mr. Finston, I'm a reasonable man
00:49:25and not without sentiment.
00:49:27There is another location available up the street
00:49:29which may suit our needs.
00:49:32You know, I think I'm going to let you buy your store back.
00:49:35You!
00:49:36You are?
00:49:37Yes.
00:49:38And I estimate the place is worth $66,000.
00:49:45But that's $6,000 more than you paid for it.
00:49:48Precisely.
00:49:50And I'll expect the 6,000 in cash
00:49:52two weeks from today, or there's no sale.
00:49:57Have a good day.
00:50:11Wow, Alan, you were great.
00:50:14But we can't possibly raise $6,000 in two weeks.
00:50:17I guess we can.
00:50:18We'll find a way.
00:50:20Alan Finston, what's come over you?
00:50:22If you intend to go through this idiocy,
00:50:24you and I are through.
00:50:28Jane.
00:50:32You're right.
00:50:38You and I are through.
00:50:49Wow, Alan, what made you decide to do that?
00:50:52I don't know.
00:50:54I guess I just hate aqua.
00:50:55Oh?
00:50:57Never mind.
00:50:59Point is, I love this store.
00:51:01And I love all of you.
00:51:03And I intend to fight to keep what we have.
00:51:05Oh.
00:51:06Oh.
00:51:07We're going to have to work together night and day
00:51:09to pull this off.
00:51:10Right.
00:51:10Right.
00:51:14I just wish I knew where to reach Todd.
00:51:18Did you mail the invitations, dear?
00:51:20Yes, on the way home.
00:51:24All 300 of them.
00:51:26Good.
00:51:27Now, who are we going to seat at the head table?
00:51:30Hello?
00:51:36Oh, Daddy.
00:51:39Princess?
00:51:40Oh.
00:51:41No.
00:51:42Princess, what is it?
00:51:46Well, this is all we have.
00:51:48Yeah.
00:51:55I've got it.
00:51:57We have a giant sale.
00:51:59It'll be the biggest promotion the store has ever had.
00:52:01Dad!
00:52:02Hey!
00:52:03Todd, what's happening?
00:52:04What's happening?
00:52:11The Honolulu Airport was snowed in.
00:52:20Look, Todd, I know I haven't given you much of a chance
00:52:23since I got out here.
00:52:25But if you'd just give me another chance,
00:52:27I'd like to see what we can accomplish
00:52:28when we join forces, OK?
00:52:34Sure.
00:52:34You got it.
00:52:38And I just know it's all because
00:52:40of that stupid bikini store.
00:52:44Son of a bitch.
00:52:46You know what I've spent already on the catering alone?
00:52:51Isn't there something you can do, dear?
00:52:53You have connections in California?
00:52:55Yeah.
00:52:56Unfortunately, promotions cost money.
00:52:59We barely made a profit on that suntan contest.
00:53:02Do you know how many bikinis we'd
00:53:03have to sell to make $6,000?
00:53:09I'll go get the coffee.
00:53:11We don't even have enough bikinis in stock
00:53:13to bring in that kind of money.
00:53:14We could order more.
00:53:15No, afraid not.
00:53:17We don't have any credit.
00:53:18And we don't have the cash.
00:53:20The house.
00:53:21And I had to mortgage it to the Hill
00:53:23just to keep the business going.
00:53:24Oh, Mr. Remington.
00:53:27You stopped returning my calls?
00:53:29No.
00:53:31Hey, hey.
00:53:33What?
00:53:35All we need is a fantastic new line of bikinis
00:53:39that everybody will want to buy that won't cost us a dime.
00:53:45If only one of us knew how to ride.
00:53:52You are going to design our new line of bikinis.
00:53:58But I don't know if I can.
00:54:00Well, Ronnie, I think it's time you found out.
00:54:02But you must find it.
00:54:04One of your sales girls said she'd put it away for me.
00:54:07I know. I'm looking.
00:54:08How are you supposed to tie this?
00:54:09I'm not sure.
00:54:10I think you wait for one minute while I.
00:54:11Don't you have any tops with darts?
00:54:13Darts?
00:54:14You know what, Tom?
00:54:15This is ridiculous.
00:54:16We're your sales girls anyway.
00:54:22No, it's still not right.
00:54:24It's OK, Ronnie.
00:54:25You'll think of something.
00:54:26Yeah, we still have time.
00:54:30Come in.
00:54:33I thought this day would never end.
00:54:36How'd it go in here?
00:54:37Well, you can't rush these things, you know.
00:54:39Yeah, I'm a lousy model.
00:54:41I can't even stand still.
00:54:43Thanks.
00:54:45But it's my fault.
00:54:47I haven't come up with a thing.
00:54:48Wait till you guys see this.
00:54:51We're all set.
00:54:52This hospital supply house is going out of business.
00:54:55I got all this stuff for almost nothing.
00:55:00Surgical gowns.
00:55:02Dozens of them.
00:55:03There must be hundreds of yards of material in here.
00:55:05We can use it to make the bikinis.
00:55:06Look at this.
00:55:08Surgical thread, needles, scissors, everything we need.
00:55:12Well, I had to spend the rest of our money.
00:55:14But from now on, these bikinis are going to be 100% profitable.
00:55:18What's with him?
00:55:19Todd, what are you going to do with all this green stuff?
00:55:23Yeah, what kind of a look would that be?
00:55:25The latest in high fashion hospitals.
00:55:27The coolest.
00:55:32I got it.
00:55:33What?
00:55:36I never wanted to register for the draft.
00:55:38Where do I enlist?
00:55:42Fentanyl.
00:55:45Fantastic.
00:55:46You did it.
00:55:47They were absolutely fantastic.
00:55:48Unbelievable.
00:55:50Just remember, you guys,
00:55:53we have to sell 150 of these by a week from Saturday.
00:55:56I'll think about that in the morning.
00:55:58I'm going to bed.
00:56:00Yeah, me too.
00:56:01Can I come with you?
00:56:03We can practice military maneuvers.
00:56:05I know some great war games.
00:56:07Want to see my bayonet tricks?
00:56:10Want to see my bayonet tricks?
00:56:15I'm really proud of you.
00:56:17I've been really proud of you, too, these past few weeks.
00:56:32Suddenly you were there
00:56:35I knew my life could never be the same
00:56:41Oh, baby
00:56:44Oh, it's like a dream come true
00:56:48I always knew your arms would hold me tight
00:57:06Hey, Alex.
00:57:08Oh, Tom, I'm sorry.
00:57:10I was too busy thinking.
00:57:12Look, look at this.
00:57:13Now, at the rate we're going,
00:57:15we're going to be lucky to finish these bikinis by next Friday.
00:57:17Right?
00:57:18Right.
00:57:19Well, that gives us just one day for your big sale.
00:57:22How are we going to sell 150 bathing suits in one day?
00:57:25Don't worry.
00:57:26We can do it.
00:57:27This is going to be the biggest sale of the year.
00:57:29We're going to be the best in the world.
00:57:32How are we going to sell 150 bathing suits in one day?
00:57:35Don't worry.
00:57:36We can do it.
00:57:37This is going to be the biggest beach party
00:57:39anybody around here has ever seen.
00:57:41I don't know, Todd.
00:57:42This is another excuse for one of your big parties.
00:57:45Hey, I thought we were working together now.
00:57:49You're right.
00:57:51We are.
00:57:52Besides, it is a good excuse to have a party.
00:57:59Just kidding.
00:58:02I have a client out here
00:58:04who holds a seat on the planning commission.
00:58:07I think you'll be able to help us.
00:58:10Don't you worry, Princess.
00:58:13Alan is going to marry you.
00:58:17I don't even want to marry him anymore.
00:58:21I just want to ruin his life.
00:58:26Whoa.
00:58:27The judge is here.
00:58:30Hey.
00:58:33Here.
00:58:34Put this on.
00:58:35I'm trying to take this off.
00:58:38Marshal's office.
00:58:39Decided for a zoning violation.
00:58:41All right.
00:58:42Step over here, guys.
00:58:43What?
00:58:44We have a cease and desist order.
00:58:46No more manufacturing on the premises.
00:58:48What?
00:58:49Joe, you want to give me a hand with these?
00:58:51Yes, sir.
00:58:57You want to give me a hand with these?
00:59:00No, you can't take these.
00:59:02Come on.
00:59:03You've been instructed to impound these
00:59:05until your scheduled hearing on July 19th.
00:59:08That's two weeks away.
00:59:10Hey, we got a real smart kid here.
00:59:14Another stinking sweatshop.
00:59:16Come on, Joe.
00:59:28Okay, look.
00:59:29We've still got to weave, right?
00:59:31So we'll stay right here,
00:59:32and we'll sew as many bikinis as we can by hand.
00:59:34But we won't be able to get half as many done as we could have.
00:59:37Well, that's all right.
00:59:38We'll promote the fact that they're hand-sewn,
00:59:40and we'll double the prices.
00:59:42I just wish you two knew how to sew.
00:59:45I don't know how to sew.
00:59:47I don't know how to sew.
00:59:49I don't know how to sew.
00:59:51I don't know how to sew.

01:00:06He was tops in his class at sewing.
01:00:10Okay, Betsy Ross, get to work.
01:00:13But Todd and I have a lot to do this afternoon.
01:00:16Don't worry.
01:00:17I'll take care of the promotion,
01:00:18getting everything ready for the sale.
01:00:20Todd, there's much too much labor involved
01:00:22for you to handle it by yourself.
01:00:24No problem.
01:00:25You got it all arranged?
01:00:27Okay, man, we're ready.
01:00:29What do we do first?
01:00:30Yeah, I'll be right there.
01:00:33How'd you get them to help?
01:00:35I made them an offer they couldn't refuse.
