00:00It looks like the Social Democratic Party, that's the Chancellor's party, Olaf Scholz's
00:05party, has actually won in Brandenburg.
00:07A couple of exit polls from two of the key broadcasters, ADF and ARD, have come out showing
00:18either 32 or 31% for the SPD, that's the Socialists, and either 29 or 30% for AFD, that's the
00:29far-right party, which has been labelled extremist by some of the states in Germany, by the police
00:37who have been keeping a close watch on them in recent years.
00:41The AFD have already thanked their supporters and called it a victory.
00:45It's not a final result yet.
00:47The head of the SPD in Brandenburg, who's the president of the local regional parliament,
00:55Dietmar Voigtke, who campaigned on a rather cheeky phrase, which means, if you want a
01:03skinhead, vote for Voigtke, and his board and the skinhead references to the typical
01:09supporter of the far-right.
01:12He hasn't claimed victory as such, but he has told jubilant supporters to curb their
01:18enthusiasm because the results aren't final yet, but it's quite clear that there is major
01:23relief in the SPD camp tonight, believing that they probably have just pipped the AFD
01:32at the post, which certainly is good news for Chancellor Schultz's coalition, but it's
01:37not smooth sailing ahead, and there are general elections in September next year in which
01:42the AFD will be fighting very hard to really push the SPD and other parties to up their vote.
