00:00Ugly.
00:07The Ugly Duckling knew Lady Froof would throw his family out to face a brutal winter if he tried to stay in the barnyard.
00:16So with a heavy heart he decided to leave in order to save them.
00:21He walked all night and into the next day, crossing miles and miles of a lonely, wide world.
00:33The Ugly Duckling woke up to an unfamiliar sound. There was the fluttering of wings and a strange but somehow familiar cry.
00:56Wow, beautiful! Someday I'm going to fly like that.
01:04Aw, who am I kidding? I'm just an ugly duck. Ducks can't fly like that.
01:11Oh, they're coming!
01:14Oh, someday I'll learn to fly with such beauty. And then nobody will ever call me ugly and laugh at me anymore. I'll just fly wherever I want.
01:25Goodbye. I will see you later. I will.
01:33The warm, clear days of summer soon ended. The Ugly Duckling discovered that he'd have to put his dreams of flying aside and fill a more pressing need for shelter.
01:55Ah!
01:58Ah!
02:23Hello? Anybody home?
02:27Ah!
02:31Who's there?
02:35Wow, look what the storm blew in. Who are you?
02:43Just a little duck, trying to get out of the storm.
02:48Duck? Pretty ugly for a duck. You sure?
02:54No.
02:55Not sure what it is? Maybe you're a cat.
03:05No, I don't think so.
03:09You do look kind of familiar. Let me see. What you look like is supper.
03:17Uh-oh!
03:26Uh! Uh! Uh!
03:32Wow, looks like supper is a little burnt.
03:38Well, at least that cat didn't laugh at me.
03:43What's that? A jar-cold chicken?
03:48Ha ha ha ha ha!
03:59It seemed to the Ugly Duckling that no matter where he went, everyone made fun of him.
04:05Ha ha ha ha ha!
04:21I'll find some place where no one will see me and laugh at me.
04:35Oh!
04:43Say, this might make a good home.
04:54The Ugly Duckling settled himself down in the hollow of an old tree and began the task that faces every child.
05:02The business of growing up.
05:05Weeks passed. The Ugly Duckling hid himself, creeping out only at night.
05:15In the darkness, he never noticed that his feathers were turning gray as he grew older.
05:25He refused to give up his dream of flying high across the ceiling of stars.
05:31And with each passing night, as he worked toward his dream, his wings grew stronger and stronger.
05:39The seasons flew by, chasing brown and gold leaves onto the hard, cold ground.
05:46The wind chilled him to his bones. He hated the biting loneliness of this place.
05:52Then one day, something wonderful happened.
05:56The pond filled with the sound of happy splashing.
06:00Look at that. Swans. They're beautiful.
06:11If only I could be a part of them, fly away with them.
06:15But they might laugh at me. It's so terribly lonely here. I must go.
06:23Wait!
06:26Wait!
06:28Your Majesty, that new swan looks like you.
06:32I do? Me?
06:38I do!
06:40This is the hatchling of the Queen's egg that disappeared.
06:44This swan is my son.
06:47Come, join us in the kingdom of the sky.
06:51It was true. Time and the courage to be himself transformed the ugly duckling into a swan.
06:59A prince among birds.
07:09Hey, there's a new swan with him.
07:12Could that be the lost prince?
07:21Mother! Mother, are you there?
07:27That voice! I know it! My boy!
07:31Hear me, all of you! To reward my mother's kindness,
07:35the Swan King appoints Audrey Duck, Mistress of the Roost.
07:39My son, you have become a swan!
07:42Yes, Mother. A good heart can change any ugly duckling into a swan.
07:46Yes, Mother. A good heart can change any ugly duckling into a swan.
07:54From this time on, no bird lived in fear of being ugly or different,
07:59and the ugly duckling lived a long and happy life in the bright summer sun,
08:04heart filled with joy, the future, and open sky.
