00:00Hi! Nice to see you! My name is Kukla. I'm going to start the show right away because I tell you we have a very exciting thing in store for you.
00:13Some really wonderful music and an old favorite by one of our great singers here at the Kukla Palatin Playhouse.
00:20So, Kenneth, would you start the regular show, you know, the theme, please?
00:25That's it.
00:28Here we are, back with you again.
00:31And yes, by golly.
00:33A Kukla friend.
00:34And dear old Ollie.
00:35Here we are again.
00:37Here we are again.
00:39Here we are again.
00:40Here we are again.
00:42Here we are again.
00:44Here we are again.
00:51That's enough. That's enough. No, no.
00:54That's nice of you. Thank you, Ken, very much.
00:57Well, friends, in our library, our music library, we have a few favorites that we always love.
01:05And these few favorites are always sung by a very great favorite lady singer of ours.
01:11Probably the finest lady singer we know and the one we love the most.
01:16So, here she is now. I want to bring her in.
01:19Come right in, dear.
01:21Come right in, dear.
01:22And thank you, darling.
01:26I'm sorry, Madame Oglepuss.
01:28I can come back.
01:29No, no, Fran.
01:30Fran's going to sing for us, Madame Oglepuss.
01:34Oh.
01:35Well, pardon me.
01:39Why do I always get on this end of that kind of thing?
01:42I didn't mean that, Fran.
01:44I just was going to give you a big, lovely build-up.
01:47Well, let's not let her.
01:48She's a good sport.
01:49She's going to have fun today, anyway.
01:50She's going to have fun today, anyway.
01:51Shall we do it?
01:52There's a wonderful song that Fran has always sung for many, many years, anyway.
01:56And we just love it.
01:57And we've asked her to sing it today.
01:58Ken, it's a most unusual day.
02:02Can I help?
02:03Please do.
02:05I woke up singing this morning, got out of the right side of bed.
02:14I woke up singing this morning and wondering what was ahead.
02:22I took one good look at the sun and was I the luckiest one?
02:33It's a most unusual day, feel like throwing my worries away.
02:42As an old native born Californian would say, it's a most unusual day.
02:49There's a most unusual sky, not a sign of a cloud passing by.
02:57And if I want to sing, throw my hat in the ring, it's a most unusual day.
03:05There are people meeting people.
03:08How do you do?
03:09Nice to see you.
03:10There's sunshine everywhere.
03:13There are people greeting people.
03:16Nice to see you.
03:17And a feeling of spring in the air.
03:20It's a most unusual time.
03:24I keep feeling my temperature climb.
03:28If my heart won't behave in the usual way, well, there's only one thing to say.

19:34Yes, my dear little girl, I'm coming, I'm coming.
19:36Well, hurry up!
19:38I've got to have a proper introduction.
19:40Excuse me.
19:42Good evening, ladies and gentlemen, and friends of music everywhere.
19:48The Cuckapolitan Light Opera Company and Strollin' Carolers
19:52take great pleasure tonight in bringing you this fine program,
19:56this recital by an artist of renown and great beauty.
20:01Hurry up, get on with it, dear.
20:03I am, I am, I am.
20:05I'd like to now introduce to you a lady whose poise and whose charm
20:12and whose endurance has brought a great...
20:17Get on with it, Richard!
20:19I will, my dear, just take your time.
20:23Oh, I'm so nervous.
20:25And now I'd like to present to you that charming, lovely nightingale of song,
20:32Madame Ophelia Ogilporth.
20:36Yes!
20:42Break a leg.
20:43Oh, Richard, thank you.
20:46Thank you so much, dear friends, for being here.
20:50I can't tell you how moved I am,
20:54how really moved and touched I am by your presence.
21:00I would like to start off my recital tonight with a dear number,
21:06a number written for me and dedicated to me
21:10by two great and glorious musicians, composers.
21:17I think you will be particularly interested tonight
21:20in the excellent and virtuoso playing of the flautist
21:24who will join me in the last half of my song.
21:29I'm going to sing for you.
21:32That's why I'm wearing this little token.
21:35Roses.
21:37Kenneth?
21:45What shall I send to my sweet tonight?
21:53Tell me, sweet flower,
21:56roses of yellow or pink or white.
22:03What shall I send?
22:06Gold for her smile and her sunny hair,
22:10pink for the flush that her cheek will wear,
22:14white for her soul and the secrets there.
22:23What shall I send, sweet roses?
22:30Which shall she lay on her breast of snow?
22:38Tell me, sweet flower,
22:41is it a prophecy, real or faux?
22:47What shall I send?
22:51Yellow for gold and the world's decree,
22:55pink for love and its ecstasy,
22:59white for the robe of a saint to be.
23:08What shall I send?
23:17What shall I send?
23:24What shall I send to my sweet tonight?
23:47Oh, oh, oh, oh, oh!
23:55Frances?

24:12Oh, Frances, Frances!
24:28Euh...
24:29Frances, vous êtes une... une... une...
24:31Vous êtes un bon sport et... et...
24:34Un joueur de bruit de fracas.
24:36Non, vous n'êtes pas, ma chérie. Vous... vous êtes merveilleuse.
24:40Oh, rejoignez-moi à la finale, s'il vous plaît, mon amour.
24:43Oh, s'il vous plaît.
24:44C'était remarquable.
24:45Je n'ai jamais été si inspiré.
24:46Eh bien, donnez-moi une note.
24:47Une note.
24:48Dites-moi, dites-moi.
24:49Dites-moi.

25:40I sing
25:41To my
25:42Sweet
25:43Tonight?
25:46Oh, well.
25:50Stop dreaming,
25:56Miyula.
25:56There's work to be done.
25:58Some...
25:59Dee-Dee.
26:00Dee-Dee.
26:01Tus-Tus-Tus.
26:02Dee-Dee.
26:03Dee-Dee.
26:04Dee-Dee.
26:05Dee-Dee.
26:06Dee-Dee.
26:07I certainly hope I get my card in the union.
26:18Sassy Bill said I had a lot to make up for that curtain bid.
26:22Oh, I'm willing to work hard.
26:25I'll slave.
26:31Wasn't she great?
26:33Wasn't a great evening?
26:35I'll tell you.
26:42Oh, I beg your pardon.
26:45Don't tell anybody.
26:58Oh, you're still here, beauter?
27:00Oh, yes, I'm cleaning up.
27:02Oh, dear girl.
27:04Ophelia, you were magnificent.
27:07You're going out?
27:08Oh, yes, we're having a lovely party.
27:10Aren't you coming?
27:12Oh, well, no, I'm going to work here.
27:15I want the stage to be all cleaned up and all that.
27:19Oh, darling, you were magnificent.
27:21I hope one day that I can stand out in the spotlight and do something beautiful like that.
27:25You did something beautiful, darling.
27:28You helped by just being there.
27:31Oh, you're my girl.
27:32Shall I kiss your tiny feet?
27:38My bouquet for you, darling.
27:41Au revoir.
27:43She's really a grand lady.
27:47Ah-choo!
28:18Colonel Cracky, Cecil Bill, and all the kooklapolitans.
28:37Welcome back to The Best of Fletcher Rabbit.
28:41Some of you may be wondering how it's possible to train a worm.
28:47It is a difficult thing.
28:51I started with the flea circus when I was but a boy.
28:56In my rabbit hutch, my country rabbit hutch,
29:01there was great opportunity to study the flea.
29:06So I became acquainted with the fleas.
29:09We had a very successful tour in Copenhagen and various places in the world.
29:14And it just so happens, while I was in Denmark talking to some Danish fleas,
29:19they spoke three languages, remarkable Danish fleas.
29:23They said that they knew of an extraordinary worm
29:27who was doing a solo act but didn't have an agent.
29:33Well, sir, you can... What's that?
29:36Oh, yes, all right. We'll get on with... Sorry.
29:39My star wants to get on.
29:41And here he is now, Werner, the trained worm.
29:45Let's give him a big hand.
29:50Thank you. Yes, I think it is best if you come in close.
29:53That's just fine, John. That's just fine.
29:55All right. Werner, let's show everybody how bright you are.
30:01How much is two and two?
30:10Two and two.
30:16Are you starting over again or is that two?
30:20Well, I'll take it for two.
30:22All right. No, two and two is not two.
30:24Two and two is what?
30:27Very bright.
30:30Yes, what?
30:32No, speak English. You know I don't understand Danish.
30:35Oh, you'd rather do the musical number.
30:38Certainly, certainly, certainly.
30:40My Werner, the trained worm,
30:42is now going to do his own remarkable musical number.
30:48He's the only worm in the world with an embouchure
30:52that can blow a mighty trumpet.
30:54All right, here we go.
30:56All right, you've got your breath.
30:58Okay, here we go.
31:10Remarkable, wasn't it?
31:12Isn't that wonderful?
31:16Hold it just a minute, Ken.
31:18That was Old Black Magic.
31:22Old Black Magic.
31:24Oh, I'm sorry, I'm covering you.
31:26That was Old Black Magic. It wasn't Old Black Magic.
31:28What was that?
31:30Well, let me just hear it again.
31:40My country tis of thee.
31:42Right! Let's give him a big hand.
31:45Shall we give him a big hand?
31:47That's just marvelous.
31:48Werner, I think you were a remarkable worm
31:50and I'm so happy to have you here.
31:52And I'll let you go back there.
31:53We'll give you a reward.
31:55We feed all of our animals after every act.
31:57And what is it you want tonight?
32:00Of course, coffee in the Danish.
32:02Well, off we go.
32:06That looks quite good to me.
32:09Yes, I think that looks just fine.
32:11Oh, indeed, that is just fine.
32:16Thank you very much.
32:17Well, I like to work in my costume
32:19when I'm rehearsing.
32:20You see, I'm playing the part of Galileo.
32:26Well, thank you very much.
32:27It's my old Columbus Day costume.
32:29Well, rather, it's Kukla's old Columbus Day costume.
32:31Well, thank you very much, Cecil Biel.
32:33I believe we'll just get on with the rehearsal then.
32:37Oh, Kenneth, I'd like to have some sort of
32:39a star-gazing music, please, back of this.
32:44Oh, good. Oh, good. Excellent.
32:46Oh, I like that.
32:48My, my, just like the afternoon soaps.
32:50Fine.
32:54All righty, now we'll start.
32:55Galileo is just about to make his momentous discovery
32:58through his telescope.
33:08Do some work on this thing.
33:14Eureka! I see something small, shiny and beady.
33:17It's my lovely eyes.
33:19Lady Beulah, what are you doing up here
33:21in my observation tower?
33:23I followed you, Leo.
33:24Oh, Leo, what are you doing?
33:26This is madness.
33:27You must, you must forget all of this.
33:29Really, you're going to get into trouble.
33:31I know.
33:32Oh, I cannot.
33:33I must work on my discovery.
33:35This is a telescope.
33:36Oh, you and your discovery.
33:38Honestly.
33:39But look how beautiful the heavens are.
33:41All those stars.
33:42I see the stars.
33:44And those beautiful starry heavens
33:46are made for more than peering through a telescope
33:49with, at, for, by.
33:52You've got to change that line.
33:54I know it.
33:55You wrote it.
33:57Please, let's just take a walk.
33:59And you know how I feel about you, Leo.
34:03Yes, I do, Lady Beulah, but you'll have to wait
34:06because astronomy comes first with me.
34:10Let me look again.
34:11Ah-ha!
34:12Ah-ha!
34:13What are you saying ah-ha-ha for?
34:15You've got your nose in there.
34:16What are you going to see?
34:17Well, I'm trying my best, Beulah.
34:19Sorry.
34:20I see a small red planet.
34:23I believe that that must be
34:25that wonderful near neighbor of ours.
34:27I think I will name it.
34:28Oh, do.
34:29Name it, name it.
34:30Then let's get on with our friendship.
34:32Why don't you name it Beulah?
34:34It's not right.
34:35That's not a good name for a planet.
34:38Oh, that's not a good name for a planet.
34:40I think I will name it Mars.
34:46He's going to sing now.
34:48Mars, Mars, beautiful Mars
34:52Twinkling like a ruby
34:56High in the heavens, I see your canals
34:59That is the place that I'd like to be
35:03Rhymes with ruby.
35:04I know, I know.
35:06Mars, Mars, beautiful Mars
35:10Gem of the whole solar system
35:13You're red like a berry
35:15And so planetary
35:17I would be merry
35:19If you'd only tarry
35:21But on you must go
35:22Whirling forth through the stars
35:24That's our Mars, beautiful Mars
35:31Come on, Leo.
35:33Leo, forget the telescope.
35:36I'm here.
35:52I would be merry
35:53If you'd only tarry
35:55But on you must go
35:56Whirling forth through the stars
35:58That's our Mars, beautiful Mars
36:03Mars
36:34Patience, patience, patience.
36:36Now, here we go.
36:38Oh, yes.
36:39Oh, yes. Oh, Kukla.
36:40There's a nice one for Kukla.
36:42And there's one for Oliver J. Dragon.
36:45And, oh, yes.
36:47Werner Wurm.
36:48Is that not Werner Wurm?
36:49Got one.
36:50And here's one for Cecil Bill.
36:51I'll put that over here.
36:52And that's one for Madame Oglepuss.
36:54Another one for Madame Oglepuss.
36:56And there's one for...
36:57Oh, for Colonel Cracky.
36:59And there's one for Cecil Bill.
37:01Dolores.
37:02Dolores.
37:03Fran.
37:04That's for Fran.
37:05And here's one for moi.
37:08Oh, they didn't forget the old mailman.
37:11Madame Oglepuss.
37:12Madame Oglepuss.
37:13Madame Oglepuss.
37:14Frances.
37:15Frances.
37:16Whoops.
37:17Dolores.
37:19Kukla.
37:20Olly.
37:23There, I see a bee.
37:24Right there.
37:25Where?
37:26Right there.
37:27Bee, bee.
37:29Burt Kilstrin.
37:33Dolores.
37:34Dolores.
37:36Madame Oglepuss.
37:37Frances.
37:39Madame Oglepuss.
37:40Frances.
37:41There we are.
37:42That all? That all?
37:43There must be some more downstairs.
37:44I don't believe so, Beulah.
37:45That's the last mail and they all came.
37:47Well, I'll have to deliver them.
37:49You'll excuse me.
37:50I'll take them down and get them to the right people.
37:53Certainly.
37:54Certainly.
37:55Surely no more.
37:56No more.
37:57Thank you, Beulah.
37:59Fletcher?
38:00What is it, Beulah?
38:01I got your bag.
38:03Thank you, Beulah, very much.
38:05You're welcome.
38:10That's strange.
38:15I got three last year.
38:18Not even one this year.
38:23That's kind of strange, isn't it?
38:27Oh, Kukla, you should see the inside of this rocket.
38:31Oh, that is marvelous.
38:33Hey, Fletcher, a lot of equipment is still in there.
38:36Sure, sure.
38:37But I think it's all deactivated.
38:39That's just beautiful.
38:41Just beautiful.
38:42You know, Kukla, why I wanted to do this show?
38:45Well, I suppose you just wanted to kind of do a nice musical, didn't you?
38:50No, it's more than that.
38:51I've always had a hankering to...
38:53go up there in the great space areas,
38:57come back and be the first bunny to have made it.
39:02Oh, down Michigan Avenue, Fifth Avenue, Sunset Boulevard.
39:07A call from the president?
39:08Yes, a call from the president.
39:10Oh, that would be just wonderful.
39:14Oh, yes, I sometimes think that if I could do that...
39:18Well, I can. I'm a showbiz guy.
39:21Well, I can. I'm a showbunny.
39:24So the next best thing, I thought, was to do a little show.
39:28Well, that's just wonderful. Do you think you'll be a part for me?
39:31Oh, yes, in the finale, as a matter of fact.
39:35In the finale, we're going to have a lift-off and a...
39:39Oh, we're just going to have a remarkable thing.
39:41And you could be...
39:43Well, it was a part I was going to give to Werner.
39:45Werner?
39:46Von Worm.
39:47Oh, yes, yes, of course.
39:49But you could be an assistant and do the countdown and everything.
39:53Oh, that would be great.
39:55I can sort of... I'm going to wear the helmet and I'm going to be the astronaut.
40:00Oh, well, I'll be glad to help if you want. I'll do whatever you say.
40:03Let's rehearse that right now.
40:05Here, I'm going to do it just like they really do.
40:08And when I get in the rocket, I'm going to turn on my magnetic boots
40:11and we're going to pretend like it was a real take-off.
40:14Oh, great. How are you going to do the whole thing?
40:16Oh, you'll love it.
40:18It's just going to be done with some flashing lights
40:20and then the curtain will come down and all that.
40:22Oh, well, okay, I'll do it. I'll do whatever you say.
40:25Can I hold the door for you?
40:26Yeah.
40:31Are you in all right?
40:32Yeah, I'm here.
40:35I'm turning on my boots now.
40:38What do I do?
40:39Lock me up.
40:40Oh, okay. There you go.
40:42Now what?
40:43Now...
40:46Countdown.
40:47Oh, from where?
40:48From five.
40:49Oh, all right.
40:52Five...
40:53Four...
40:54Three...
40:55Two...
40:56One...
40:57Liftoff!
41:01Fletcher!
41:08Fletcher! Fletcher! Fletcher!
41:11What, Kukla?
41:14Good heavens!
41:16You're still here.
41:18Yes, but there goes my scenery.
41:21There goes my show.
41:23Kukla, it wasn't deactivated.
41:25Oh, Fletcher, I'm so glad you're safe.
41:29Oh, Fletcher, you're so thoughtful and so tender
41:33and so understanding and sweet.
41:36You know, it's just a shame that you don't have a family of your own.
41:41Oh, I do. My mother and father and...
41:43Well, no, I mean a real, your own family.
41:47You're so wonderful with children.
41:49You mean little bunnies?
41:51Of course.
41:52Oh, Frances, not old bachelor Fletcher.
41:55Well, I just think it would be wonderful.
41:57Oh, no. I'm too sad in my ways, Frances.
41:59You know, I go out and talk to the young rabbits everywhere, you know.
42:03We try, we're trying to work out programs for them.
42:06I know, I know you do.
42:07That's why I say I just think it would be wonderful.
42:09And I somehow feel that there are enough bunnies in the world today without my adding to it.
42:13But I do like the youngsters, but I just have a feeling that, I don't know,
42:18plants are so much easier to kind of, you know, depend on and all.
42:22Well, like that little song.
42:24Do you remember that little song about plantaradish?
42:26Oh, I hope I do.
42:27Kenneth, do you remember that one?
42:29Let's give it a whirl and we'll just...
42:33Plantaradish, gatoradish, never any doubt.
42:39That's why I love vegetables, you know what you're about.
42:44Plant a turnip, get a turnip, maybe you'll get two.
42:49That's why I love vegetables, you know that they'll come through.
42:53They're dependable.
42:55Yes siree, they're befriendable.
42:58They're the best pal a parent's ever known.
43:03While with children...
43:05Yes, it's bewildering.
43:08You don't know until the seed is nearly grown just what you've sowed.
43:13So plant a carrot, get a carrot, not a brussel sprout.
43:18That's why I love vegetables, you know what you're about.
43:23Life is merry if it's very vegetarian.
43:27A man who plants a garden is a very happy man.
43:34What?
43:36Fast asleep.
43:39Sometimes in the middle of winter you'll go out and you'll get under the snow
43:43and you'll find parsley growing there just as happy and alert as you can believe it.
43:49But children, I don't know.
43:51They're dependable.
43:53Plants, yes, they're befriendable.
43:56They're the best pal a parent's ever known.
44:00While with children...
44:03Yes, it's bewildering.
44:05You don't know until the seed is nearly grown just what you've sowed.
44:10So plant a cabbage, get a cabbage, not a sauerkraut.
44:15That's why I love vegetables, you know what you're about.
44:20Life is merry if it's very vegetarian.
44:24A man who plants a garden is a very happy, very happy, very happy man.
44:33I sang your line there.
44:35You don't mind?
44:36No.
