02:53Jaime Munguia!
02:59Okay, coaches.
03:09Anything on the black letters from here on up is good.
03:13All white here is good.
03:15You got my instructions in the back, gentlemen.
03:17Protect yourselves at all times.
03:18Listen to my commands.
03:19Touch them up.
03:20Back to your corner, gentlemen.
03:22Thomas Taylor, the referee.
03:23667-pound referee, a 14-year veteran.
03:28One of the best in the game today.
03:31Jaime Munguia, this is his 10th non-title fight
03:34since he was a world champion at 154 pounds.
03:38Eric Bazinyan, his biggest moment as a pro.
03:42Tim, what do you expect from the Armenian
03:45fighting out of Canada?
03:47A very technical start in the beginning,
03:50and I believe that this fight was gonna be won
03:52in the second half.
03:54Bazinyan has a good jab.
03:56He has a good jab right away.
03:58And as I alluded to in the lab,
04:05Munguia also has developed a really good jab.
04:08So I think it'll be a jabbing battle
04:10for the first half of this round.
04:12Both guys trying to get in a rhythm.
04:14But again, later in the fight,
04:16once Bazinyan starts to stand still,
04:19and he's actually not moving,
04:20he's actually coming forward and standing his ground,
04:23his body work can pay good dividends,
04:25I believe, for Munguia.
04:27There's a nice staff jab from Bazinyan,
04:29and he stops Munguia in his tracks with that stick.
04:33Right out the gate right there,
04:34you saw Munguia already immediately going downstairs
04:37or attempting to.
04:38Bazinyan just stepping out of range and making a miss.
04:42There's another stick.
04:43Now it's Munguia who matches Bazinyan,
04:46punching with the Canadian best fighter.
04:49I'm waiting on the fighter that's gonna counter the jab.
04:52I know he's gonna throw it.
04:54So anticipate it, get close enough,
04:56and come over with the right hand.
04:58But both being defensively responsible
05:00in terms of how quick they bring that jab back.
05:02Oh, absolutely.
05:03Mexico! Mexico! Mexico!
05:06You have a chance of Mexico-Mexico.
05:09Previously it was Munguia-Munguia.
05:11As an opposing fighter, you saw a left hook from Munguia.
05:14What does that do to you, Tim?
05:16Doesn't do anything.
05:17You just hope to shut him up.
05:19That's just it.
05:21It's like, okay, you can call his name,
05:23say whatever you want to say.
05:24However, I'm gonna make you zip that mouth up real quick.
05:28Bye. Land in my offense.
05:31Now Bazinyan has two punches
05:33that can do damage against Munguia.
05:35One is a jab to Kimo Bettebe,
05:37and the other is the uppercut,
05:38and that's the shot that Canelo dropped him with
05:40in the fourth round of their fight.
05:42And the right hand as well.
05:43Overhand right.
05:44Yeah, Munguia hit with the right hand.
05:45Right there.
05:46Right there, yep, right over the top.
05:48Munguia shot a jab and pulled out of range
05:50with that lead hand,
05:51and the right hand came right over the top.
05:53Bazinyan looks extremely smart in there, man.
05:56He's extremely technical.
05:57He knows what he's doing.
05:59Nice combination once again for Bazinyan,
06:02and it's all off of that throwaway jab sometimes
06:05that sets up the right,
06:06and you see a combination punch from Jaime Munguia.
06:09What did I tell you earlier on?
06:11Oh, that's a nice shot there from Munguia.
06:14He heard him with that.
06:1525 seconds he left in round one.
06:18And how will Bazinyan react?
06:25You know what I love about Munguia?
06:26He's a risk taker.
06:27Yep.
06:28That's what I love.
06:29You know, he's gonna put punches,
06:30he's gonna put numbers together.
06:32If he feels like he's losing the round,
06:33you know he's gonna come out blazed, unblazed.
06:36And that was the most effective punch of the round
06:38that may have been dominated by Bazinyan.
06:41Yeah!
07:12Yeah!
07:29Yeah!
07:42Yeah!
07:44As we get set for round two,
07:46great action, Tim, in round one for both guys.
07:48Yeah, you wanna know how to take a jab away?
07:50You land the right hand over the top,
07:52and that's what Bazinyan was able to land in that last round.
07:55Here it is.
07:56You see Munguia step in with the jab down to the body.
07:59Boom, gets clipped with the right hand on the way out.
08:02But also, you follow up.
08:04If you miss with a shot and you follow up,
08:06you see Munguia lands a shot on Bazinyan
08:09as he's trying to exit the pocket.
08:11Nice little left hook in there.
08:13Might have buzzed him, might have hurt him a little bit.
08:15Yeah, that's another nice left hook here
08:17in the second round for Jaime Munguia.
08:19And I thought it was more effective when I saw it live,
08:22but seeing the replay, that right hand from Bazinyan
08:25may have given him that first round
08:27because it was just as solid as a left hook.
08:29And now you see a left hook from Bazinyan switching it up.
08:32That was a good shot right there.
08:33He caught him as he was coming in,
08:35so he had his momentum also coming in on that punch.
08:39This is a chess match at a very high level, Tim.
08:41I told you it is.
08:42Early on, both men respecting each other's power.
08:46Bazinyan understands that he has to box Munguia.
08:49He can't get in a firefight with him.
08:51He know he won't win that battle at the end of the day.
08:54And Mark Ramsey was adamant in the corner
08:56in letting him know that you've got better fundamentals,
08:58you've got better tools.
09:00Don't let his power lure you into his fight.
09:03He went 109 as an amateur in one loss.
09:07Absolutely.
09:08And, Tim, he lost his first fight
09:10and rattled off 109 consecutive amateur victories,
09:14did Bazinyan.
09:16Pretty impressive.
09:17He knows how to fight,
09:18and he has 169 rounds under his belt.
09:22That's a comparison of 211 in 44 fights
09:27for Jaime Munguia,
09:29as we hear the warning from referee Thomas Taylor.
09:32Nice jab once again from Bazinyan.
09:34That's gonna be his bread and butter tonight.
09:36That is the bread and butter.
09:37That's how he's gonna eat tonight,
09:38and that's how he can win the fight.
09:40And those are the numbers you're asking for from Munguia.
09:44That jab keeps your opposition at bay.
09:47It's the longest weapon you have to the target.
09:50The more you use it,
09:51it's gonna set up the rest of your offense.
09:54And Munguia has to take risks to get inside of that jab.
09:58Either inside slips or outside slips.
10:00That's what he's gonna have to do to take away that jab.
10:02Or he can dip underneath.
10:03He attempted the outside slip right there
10:05to try to come over,
10:06but Bazinyan saw it and exited to his right.
10:12Moving away from that right hand.
10:16You see the level changes right there
10:18from Munguia right there.
10:19He's trying to attempt,
10:20he's trying to load that front leg,
10:21which is the left hook,
10:22which is his bread and butter.
10:23He likes that left hook.
10:24You see that right hand of Bazinyan
10:26starting to drop slightly,
10:28starting to drop.
10:29And it'll drop even more as the rounds go on,
10:32but you see it position a little bit past his face.
10:36Look for that left hook to land.
10:38He attempted it, you see?
10:39Absolutely.
10:40It's not what you saw, Tim,
10:41from one champion to another.
10:43Absolutely.
10:44Round 2 in the books here.
10:46Munguia, Bazinyan, main event.
10:48Munguia, Bazinyan, main event.
11:18Round 3 of a scheduled Well,
11:47a big 12-round fight between Jaime Munguia,
11:50the former world champion at 154 pounds,
11:52fresh off his loss to Saul Canelo Alvarez on May 4th.
11:55That same night, Eric Bazimian was fighting Shaquille Finn
12:00to a draw in Montreal.
12:04So this is a redemption fight for both,
12:06and they're both ranked number two
12:09by a different sanctioning body.
12:10WBC ranks Munguia at number two,
12:13Bazimian number two in the WBO.
12:16Both dream of another payday against Canelo.
12:22Nice jab from Bazimian using his legs,
12:24and Munguia lands a jab of his own,
12:27setting up a body shot.
12:28Munguia now is starting to pick up the tempo now.
12:31I saw the urgency in his face
12:33and just the way he was posturing, trying to come forward.
12:35He's gonna try to attempt to close the distance on Bazimian.
12:38That last round,
12:39I don't think he liked the way that round went.
12:41He was getting in trouble with that jab of Bazimian,
12:45but he's gonna have to eventually cut that distance.
12:47I mean, still third round right now.
12:50It's a 12-round fight.
12:51He has experience.
12:53I think he knows when to turn it up, turn it on.
12:57Nice left hook from Munguia,
12:58but good defensive posture
13:01with that right hand of Bazimian,
13:03but you mentioned, Tim, it's starting to slip,
13:05and that's what Munguia is looking for.
13:08Get around that guard.
13:09Yeah, he is, but I like the head movement,
13:11the elusiveness of Munguia.
13:13At least he's trying to be more elusive,
13:16giving a little bit different looks up front,
13:19rotating his shoulders.
13:20Eventually, he's gonna have to come off that,
13:22rotating his shoulders left and right.
13:24He's gonna have to come off of that,
13:25disguise that right hand or that left hook.
13:28Bazimian now taking a hook out of Munguia's fight plan
13:31that only numbers earlier this round,
13:34and then Munguia sticking with the jab
13:36and trying to go downstairs.
13:39Oh, that uppercut attempt right there.
13:40He was trying to catch Munguia on the way in
13:42with an uppercut.
13:43That's the punch that dropped him in the fourth round
13:45against Canelo Alvarez,
13:46so both fighters are well-studied
13:50coming into this fight.
13:51They know what they're up against,
13:53and it's a chess match at a very high technical level.
13:56All right, I'm just gonna say something,
13:58because I just need to get it off my chest.
13:59I mean, I love the jab coming from Bazimian, yes.
14:03You know, the aggression that's coming from Munguia,
14:05yes, he's coming inside.
14:07He's landing a few punches.
14:08Some are being grazed and blows, and then blocked.
14:10However, you need to have more power shots being thrown.
14:13Effective punching, the jab, yes, it can be effective,
14:16but it's not a power jab.
14:17It's not really snapping his head back.
14:19It's kind of keeping him at bay a bit.
14:21Come behind that jab with something.
14:23If you hit him with the jab, my dad used to always tell me,
14:25if you can hit him with the jab,
14:26baby, you can hit him with the right hand.
14:28Danny, left side of the nose.
14:29Let that right hand go.
14:30Left corner.
14:31There's a small cut on the left side of the nose
14:33of Eric Bazimian, as mentioned by referee Thomas Taylor.
14:38Or at least some inflammation.
14:40There's a nice counter from Bazimian.
14:42And that was a heavy shot.
14:43Yeah, one, two, straight.
14:45Heavy shot.
14:46You saw the legs of Munguia.
14:47And I don't think he was hurt,
14:48but he was knocked off balance
14:50with those two heavy shots coming from Bazimian.
14:55All right, the tension continues to build,
14:58and the jab we knew was gonna be an important punch
15:01in this fight, and Bazimian, Tim,
15:03has been using it to perfection.
15:04Oh yeah, I mean, you know, it's the general right now,
15:08and he's controlled in range,
15:09and he's fighting at the pace he wants to fight at.
15:10He's slowed down Munguia.
15:12Munguia has yet to get inside of his chest.
15:15But again, you're landing that jab, yes,
15:18but what's coming behind it?
15:20You gotta land power shots.
15:22Effective, effective punching.
15:24That's what it's about.
15:31But right now, he has Munguia right where he needs him.
15:34And look at the pump he's about to unleash.
15:36The average is 6.6 jabs landed per round.
15:39That's 2.3 above the super middleweight average.
15:43Tonight, he's at 11 jabs per round.
15:46And when you have a good weapon, Tim, you have to use it.
15:49But now there's gotta be something behind it,
15:51like you said, as we go to round four.
15:57Weather Diamond Arena, full house for Jaime Munguia.
16:01This is a technical battle as of right now,
16:03and I think that Bazimian is doing well
16:06in this technical battle.
16:08What Munguia need to do is he needs to turn this
16:10into a fight that will shoot him better.
16:14And that right counter, Bazimian once again,
16:19making Munguia know he's gonna eat some jabs like that.
16:22Good jab, and he's stepping in now.
16:24Power, power with that jab.
16:26But he's keeping Munguia off balance with that jab,
16:29breaking his rhythm.
16:30Anything that he was thinking about doing
16:32before he got in that position, boom,
16:33he hits him in the face with the jab
16:34and he forgets about it.
16:36And he has to reset his feet and replant his feet.
16:39All right, let's bring in another jab.
16:41Kregel, who spoke with Mark Ramsey in Bazimian's corner.
16:45Ramsey's happy with what Bazimian's been doing
16:48with the jab, but he wants to follow it up.
16:51He says Munguia puts his head right in that hole,
16:54and he's right there for an uppercut
16:55for a right hand or left hook.
16:57Now things are starting to heat up.
17:02Here in round four.
17:04Yeah, Munguia's cut that distance real well
17:06with the head movement,
17:08dipping underneath a lot of those shots right there
17:10to get his offense off.
17:12He's gonna need to do more of that to gain control,
17:16to kind of take over the momentum of this fight,
17:17because that jab of Bazimian is something else.
17:21I mean, it's a snappy jab
17:23that he's able to connect on Jaime Munguia,
17:26and that sets up his power shots.
17:27He hasn't committed to those power shots as of yet, Tim,
17:30and you mentioned there's gotta be something
17:32behind that jab, but his jab is really effective.
17:35You know what I like about Bazimian's punches
17:38is that he's not overshooting his punches.
17:41He's throwing them right from the shoulders.
17:43You know, he knows his hands are heavy.
17:44He's not loading up.
17:45He's just shooting them right from where they are.
17:48That's actually, it covers up the telegraph.
17:52There's no telegraphing with his shots.
17:53He just shoots them right from the shoulders.
17:55Nice body shot there from Munguia.
17:58What you're saying is he's staying within himself.
18:00Yes, yes.
18:01He's not letting the moment get to him.
18:02He's not letting the fans get to him.
18:04He's not allowing Munguia to bring him into a firefight.
18:08He's fighting his fight right now.
18:09Munguia, I mean, again, he's coming forward.
18:11He's trying to close that distance.
18:13Nice hook right there on the inside from Munguia.
18:16Again, putting those numbers together.
18:22Nice straight right from Munguia,
18:24but Bazimian getting a piece of it on the defensive end.
18:28Look, I just wanna just show you guys
18:31watch how Munguia, he gets in there.
18:33He works, he works, and just watch how he resets
18:35with that bounce right there.
18:36He is so vulnerable right there.
18:38He ain't ready for nothing to come back at him.
18:40If Bazimian was smart, what he would do,
18:41he would attack Munguia
18:43when he's bouncing up and down like that.
18:45You know who taught me about that?
18:46It was Bernard Hopkins.
18:48He said, Tito Trinidad does bounce, bounce, throw.
18:51What I would do is disrupt them.
18:53Bounce, disrupt them, have to reset.
18:55And that's exactly how he won that fight.
18:59And that's what's going on right now
19:01with Munguia and Bazimian.
19:04All right, Eric Morales back in the corner of Jaime Munguia.
19:08Let's listen to the legends.
19:10I feel a little tight.
19:14It's normal. You're gonna be all right.
19:15Hey, we've lost control of the fight.
19:20He throws jabs, but he's tentative with it.
19:25When he throws that jab, you gotta counter with the right.
19:29You gotta get close, go to the body.
19:32He knows how to use his range.
19:34But if you move your waist, you're gonna get close,
19:37you're gonna get there easily.
19:40The pressure is well,
19:42but you need to be attentive and exit cleanly,
19:47because that's where he can catch you on the way out.
19:51He's going a lot to the left.
19:53You gotta cut that exit out.
19:55You know, great work from Fernando Fernandez,
20:01who was assisting Eric Morales in that corner
20:04with those distractions.
20:05What'd you think, Tim?
20:07Yeah, he told him right.
20:08You know, his objective is to close that distance on Bazimian.
20:13You know, but he told, he said,
20:14hey, he knows how to maintain his distance really well.
20:18You know, you gotta tell him how to do it, what to do.
20:20Come behind that double jab.
20:23You know, start using that jab,
20:24to close the distance.
20:26Once you get there, you gotta let those hands go.
20:28You can't allow him to tie you up,
20:30and you can't pull back into range.
20:34You gotta try to stay close to him, like glue.
20:38All right, Marc Friegel was in the corner,
20:40and more than anything,
20:42it's his scorecard right now through four.
20:4539-37, Eric Bazimian.
20:48Jaime Munguia is stronger, he's more powerful,
20:51he's a better athlete.
20:52You can see that when he gets off,
20:54you can see that Bazimian feels it,
20:57but Bazimian's a better boxer right now.
21:01Yeah, I mean, Bazimian, he's using the jab again,
21:03but it's not power shots, man.
21:06You gotta land those power shots.
21:08That's how you win fights.
21:10And the reality, Tim, you're coming to a place
21:16that's friendly to Jaime Munguia,
21:18as Bazimian lands a nice overhand right again.
21:22So you've got to make sure that there's no doubt.
21:24You don't want to go back to Canada,
21:25saying, I should've won a nice straight right there
21:28from Bazimian as he chops down on Munguia.
21:32He timing Munguia.
21:34He's timing that bouncing now.
21:36And Munguia, again, he's trying to be more elusive
21:39by moving his head side to side,
21:40but that's getting timed, too, by Bazimian.
21:44Oh, uppercut up the middle by Bazimian, as well.
21:48And he's burying his punches now, Tim.
21:50Yes. Oh, buried it.
21:52Jaime Munguia.
21:54Big shot. Bazimian took it well.
21:57And that's a tribute to his work in the gym.
21:59When you're in there with Archer Beterbiev,
22:01with Christian and Billy,
22:03with all Stacey Gracies doing high-level sparring,
22:06it prepares you for moments like this.
22:07Yeah, he's not fear. He doesn't fear Munguia.
22:10It doesn't look that way, from what I'm watching.
22:13Good boxing right here. Just the legs, again.
22:15Picking up his feet, changing position.
22:18All right, stop, stop, stop.
22:19No punch. Straight back. Straight back.
22:20Munguia is trying to reposition himself.
22:23He getting off on him.
22:26Tim, we talk about boxing.
22:27There's ways to use your legs to set up your offense,
22:29and that's exactly what Bazimian is doing.
22:32Nice combination again from Bazimian.
22:35I'm just going to tell you right now,
22:36Bazimian has a ton of confidence right now.
22:38Munguia is going to have to do something
22:39to take that confidence away.
22:40He's going to have to land something significant
22:42to hurt him, and it has to be downstairs.
22:45It has to be. He has to go downstairs
22:47and slow down those legs of Bazimian.
22:50What do you think of him telling Eric Corrales
22:51that he's feeling a little tight?
22:53That he's what? He's feeling a little tight.
22:56No, that's not good in the shoulders area.
22:58Feeling a little tight. That's not a good thing.
23:02Means his timing is going to be definitely off
23:04if he's feeling tight.
23:05You got to be relaxed in there.
23:07Got to loosen up over the next seven rounds of action
23:11here in our top rank on the ESPN main event.
23:14Let's listen in to the legendary Corrales.
23:17You need to control this. You need to be confident.
23:20Come on. You can take over this fight.
23:23Keep your left in a great defensive position.
23:26Catch and then either throw a straight right or an uppercut.
23:30And I need you to throw two punch combinations.
23:32No more than that.
23:35Don't let him get near you.
23:37And don't let him take control and get momentum.
23:45No body shots. All right.
23:46Good combination here, Tim.
23:47Yeah, this is a great combination from Munguia.
23:49We need more of this right here.
23:50You see him just dipping right there, changing levels.
23:53You see the jab. He sees the jab comes out.
23:55He's moving his head, changed levels again,
23:57and he comes up with that left hook
23:59and a right hand to follow.
24:02Just need to see a little bit more of that.
24:03You know, he's putting the pressure on.
24:05He's making the fight.
24:07Bazion's doing his best to outbox him,
24:10using his jabbing movement to set traps for Munguia.
24:13However, is it enough? I don't know.
24:15That pressure.
24:16Judges like that pressure, man.
24:18And that's the question here when we look at Steve Moore
24:22or Dennis O'Connell and David Sutherland.
24:26Are they appreciative of the come forward action
24:28that Munguia's providing or the excellent tactical
24:32and technical work of Bazion behind that jab?
24:35And there you see the body work of Munguia
24:37trying to break down Bazion.
24:39There it is again.
24:40That left maybe dipped a little low
24:43as the power punches landed in favor of Munguia by 20.
24:49Turn to Bazion. He likes his space.
24:53When you're proud of his space,
24:54you see he doesn't do anything at all.
24:57Yeah. There's a nice roll overhand right,
24:58and now the momentum starts to shift towards Munguia.
25:03The Bazion jab was not a...
25:06The Bazion jab was nonexistent
25:10through the first minute of this round.
25:16Now he lets the crowd back into it.
25:21Nice combination there from Bazion.
25:27Good head movement right there from Munguia.
25:29And again, no, double body shot right there.
25:32Again, Munguia, this is exactly where he needs to be.
25:37He needs to be close, near the pocket,
25:39either all the way away from him or all the way inside
25:44to be able to land those body shots.
25:46And now Bazion is biting on the face, Tim.
25:49He's biting on the face, and again, he likes his space.
25:51He's a counterpuncher.
25:53He doesn't... He knows that he can't compete with him
25:55with that volume.
25:57He's not gonna gas out.
25:58This is his first time going to all rounds.
26:00He's unsure.
26:02Even with all the sparring and everything,
26:04he's got a better B.S. and in-building.
26:09Nice one-two, follows it up with a three.
26:12And this is where Munguia, when he puts numbers together,
26:15you start having trouble with the fighter out of the corner.
26:19Nice uppercut, too.
26:20Dips to the body first, and then the right uppercut.
26:22You can't predict where all those punches is coming.
26:25And if you're not moving your head
26:27or if you're not just closing the gap on him
26:29and bodying up with him to stop the action,
26:32you're gonna get hit.
26:33Tough is gonna get hit. Tough is gonna get through.
26:35I think the liver shots are gonna make a huge difference
26:40in this fight in favor of Munguia.
26:41Already slowing down Bazinyan.
26:43You see that. Sets up shots over the top with the right hand.
26:47He's with a high guard.
26:48Julio Cesar Chavez, next group, is standing up already.
26:53The legend commenting for Tebe Azteca.
26:58Getting excited like the crowd is here in Glendale, Arizona.
27:04And the chess match has now become a fight, Tim.
27:06Second half, Doge is gonna heat up.
27:15Yeah, got a little bit outside of him, beside himself.
27:18Let's listen in to Mark Ramsey in the corner of Eric Bazinyan.
27:23You don't win that long. You give to him.
27:25I don't want to see him that close.
27:27You let him get close to Mariton to do his job.
27:30This fight, you're gonna turn it around with your one-two.
27:33Do you understand what I'm saying?
27:34Jab, right, jab, right.
27:36The rest is just management.
27:38If he manages to get close to physical,
27:41I don't want you to be in a position to see nothing.
27:43We play our fight.
27:44Remember what I told you about this fight.
27:46You jab and you're right. You jab and you're right.
27:49Big defense.
27:50Okay? Now we go back to the same tactic.
27:52I stay there and I receive...
27:54Of course, you let him come right away.
27:58Look, he's starting to have his mouth open at the end.
28:01You see?
28:02Good defense. Good jabbing.
28:04Straight punches. Jab and right, movement.
28:07Jab and right, defense.
28:09Straight punches, Tim.
28:12Do you remember what b-ball used to be, Canelo?
28:16Yeah, straight punches.
28:17And that's what Mark Ramsey's asking out of Bazinyan.
28:20Yeah, I mean, straight punches.
28:21I mean, that's the...
28:23A straight line is quickest to the target, right?
28:25Absolutely.
28:27And it's working.
28:30We're in the middleweight action here in Glendale, Arizona.
28:33Round 7 of a scheduled 12-round fight.
28:35Bernardo Osuna, the hall-of-famer.
28:37Tim Bradley, Mark Kriegel coming to you live on ESPN.
28:42Glad you decided to spend part of your evening with us.
28:47So Bazinyan right now is fighting back
28:48because he's trying to protect right now his weakness.
28:51He showed his weakness in the last round.
28:53Now he's trying to protect it by keeping Munguia outside.
28:59And he's inside.
29:00Yeah, 23 knockouts in 32 fights,
29:03or 32 wins for Eric Bazinyan.
29:06Munguia, 34 knockouts in 43 fights.
29:08And right now, the body work from Munguia
29:11really making a difference in turning the tide.
29:17See, Munguia, he makes his opposition
29:19work so hard defensively, man, with his offense.
29:22You know, it somewhat provides momentary protection
29:28by raising his percentage of winning rounds.
29:33He's built his stamina up extremely well.
29:35Yeah, working up in Big Bear has been so important for him.
29:38He told us, look, the fact that I was with Freddie Roach
29:41at the Wild Card Gym before the Canelo fight
29:44instead of in Big Bear, nice liver shot there
29:46from Munguia affected me in the Canelo fight.
29:49I didn't have the same wind down the stretch,
29:51and we saw that.
29:53Oh, nice combination, right hook, left hook.
29:56Bazinyan back against the ropes.
29:58A minute and 20 seconds left here in round number 7.
30:01A long time for the Mexican fighter out of Tijuana
30:05to put in work.
30:08Good recovery from Bazinyan.
30:10That tells you that he's in tip-top shape,
30:13and he's here to win the fight.
30:15Big shot right there from Munguia.
30:19By the crowd on their feet, Tim.
30:21You see Munguia now trying to recharge.
30:24You see that Bazinyan has recovered.
30:27He's not willing to take a chance.
30:28Nice counter left from Bazinyan.
30:30Bazinyan is saying he's here to fight.
30:32He's attempting to land something big on Munguia.
30:36And Munguia now needing to recover.
30:38He needs to recover, yes.
30:39After that salvo of punches.
30:41Oh, don't worry, he's gonna come back.
30:42Oh, right hand from Bazinyan.
30:44Yeah, Bazinyan woke up after those shots
30:46from Jaime Munguia hurt him.
30:48And now he's coming back with a one-two straight shot.
30:51Make it three.
30:52That shows you he's not here to lay down.
30:55He's here to win.
30:59Jaime Munguia back in big bear for this fight,
31:01but that jab came straight from Montreal
31:05and landed at its destination,
31:06right on the chin of Jaime Munguia.
31:08I thought it was a great response from Bazinyan.
31:11Great shot, but great, even greater response from Bazinyan.
31:15Nice counter from Bazinyan.
31:16Now another left hook from Jaime Munguia.
31:21Says, you're not gonna steal this round from me.
31:23There you go, gentlemen, good job.
31:24Great action.
31:26That's right.
31:28The fans are on their feet here.
31:31Armenians, Mexicans, and Tim,
31:34let's take a look at that combination from Munguia.
31:36Oh yeah, starting off that jab.
31:38Ooh, he kind of hesitated with that right hand.
31:40Shot the jab out there.
31:42Bing, go ahead and take that.
31:43Then right hand, turned it right over.
31:46Bazinyan was looking for the uppercut,
31:47had that lead hand down,
31:48and then slapped him with that hook.
31:51Beautiful shot right there.
31:52You can see he was buzzed.
31:53His legs locked up a little bit right there.
31:57But man, that small little hesitation.
31:59Next, no, no, no, next round.
32:03And here's the shot right here by Bazinyan.
32:04He rolled it a little bit right there.
32:06Good experience from Munguia.
32:09Saw the shot coming, deflected that shot,
32:11missed that shot, nice follow-up right there from Bazinyan,
32:14but he rolled to take some of the steam off that punch.
32:16Go, take a shot, my appreciate it.
32:17Tim, what a shot right there from Munguia.
32:19Impress me the most, after the right hand
32:21from Jaime Munguia, he actually hit the glove of Bazinyan.
32:23Bazinyan hit his own face with that glove,
32:26so I mean, as long as you hit your face.
32:29Yes.
32:31All right, round eight, scheduled for 12.
32:34Starting to heat up here in the Desert Diamond Arena.
32:38It's been 113 days, over 100 degrees out here.
32:43Finally, that was snapped on Tuesday,
32:46but the action is hot here inside the ring
32:49with Jaime Munguia and Eric Bazinyan in round eight.
32:53High stakes fight, both ranked number two
32:55by different sanctioning bodies.
32:57Munguia, former champion, has been in against Canelo,
33:01but the dream is another title fight.
33:05Munguia looking to set up that left foot,
33:07that's what he wants, that left foot up top.
33:09He used that stab jab just a minute ago.
33:12That last round, whoa, good right hand from Bazinyan,
33:15coming right back, just standing his ground,
33:17standing in position, ready to strike.
33:19That's all he did.
33:20He didn't do anything special, special.
33:22And he allowed Munguia to walk into it.
33:28Nice body work from Munguia.
33:32This is high-level.
33:34It's a high-level chess match, yes.
33:35Yes, it is.
33:38With the crowd chanting Munguia's name.
33:40Let him go, let him go.
33:45Bazinyan may be alone in the ring,
33:48but he's all he needs right now.
33:50Yeah, but, ooh, nice right hand.
33:52And he kind of hesitated with that as well.
33:54It wasn't a one-two where it just comes out, boom, boom.
33:57It was like, boom, boom.
34:00He shot the jab out there, he shot the jab out there,
34:03located the head, then shot the right hand down the middle.
34:05Tim, we talked about changing the pace.
34:07You can't become predictable.
34:08That's exactly what Bazinyan has been able to do here
34:11over the last two rounds.
34:13That's a nice jab, keep Munguia off of him.
34:18But where Bazinyan, if he doesn't win this fight,
34:23he's gonna go back and he's gonna be a little disappointed
34:26because, ooh, good right hand.
34:28And there comes the numbers from Munguia
34:31as Bazinyan uses his legs to get out of the way.
34:34He hasn't invested anything in the body.
34:36How are you gonna slow this young bull down?
34:38You have to go down to that body.
34:39Oh, nice left-right combination
34:41finishes up with a third left hand.
34:43Munguia is gaining more and more steam
34:46as the rounds go on.
34:49And Bazinyan is losing some of the steam
34:51on those punches, it's different.
34:52But he's still letting him go, though.
34:54The lack of body work, Munguia still able
34:57to throw at full strength.
34:58Exactly.
35:00You go down to that body,
35:01you're gonna take some something away.
35:04Oh, he looked like it was on the belt line,
35:07maybe a little straighter, a little lower.
35:08He didn't complain, though.
35:10Bazinyan did.
35:11I'm impressed by Bazinyan today.
35:13His resolve, his boxing skill.
35:15Yes.
35:16But you have to be that way
35:18if you win Mark Ramsey's gym.
35:20He got killers in there, that's all he got.
35:23And Mark Ramsey wouldn't work with him
35:24if he didn't believe he had it within him.
35:26And he's letting Munguia back in this fight.
35:30Are your eyes okay?
35:31Yeah, your eyes are perfect.
35:32You're fucking perfect.
35:34We apologize for the language here
35:35from Mark Ramsey, the trainer.
35:37We look a pattern on him now, right now.
35:38Let's take a look at some of the great action
35:39from round 8, too.
35:40Oh, this is some good back-and-forth action
35:42right there.
35:43Nice, loose jab right there.
35:44Bazinyan was able to notice that Munguia was
35:47trying to get a little bit of a head start.
35:49He was trying to get a little bit of a head start.
35:51He was trying to get a little bit of a head start.
35:53He was trying to get a little bit of a head start.
35:55He was trying to get a little bit of a head start.
35:57He was trying to get a little bit of a head start.
35:59He was able to notice that Munguia wasn't set.
36:01And he said, uh, go ahead and take that with you
36:03on your way out.
36:04Again, he rolled with that shot again.
36:08That's a different angle, up-top angle right there
36:10for you folks at home.
36:11And Munguia right there, swivel jab,
36:16just changing levels, drop levels.
36:18Bazinyan hasn't figured out that level change yet.
36:21He stands straight up.
36:22He doesn't mirror the level change.
36:24You're supposed to drop levels when you see your
36:26opposition drop levels.
36:28You got to drop levels.
36:29Guess what?
36:30He's going to try to come up and sneak you.
36:32He's going to act like he's going downstairs.
36:34However, he's coming upstairs.
36:36And that's what you saw right there from Munguia.
36:38As I said, that Bazinyan let Munguia back in the fight.
36:41Mark Priegel, your scorecard through eight.
36:4476-76, four rounds apiece.
36:48This is a hell of a fight.
36:49I don't know many guys that could withstand what
36:53Jaime Munguia threw at Eric Bazinyan in the seventh
36:56round.
36:57You know, I thought of the change in the body shots in
36:59the sixth round.
37:00Munguia changed it.
37:01And then what Bazinyan showed coming back was really
37:04extraordinary.
37:05This is a great fight.
37:06Nice counter right hand.
37:07That counters that lead jab that time.
37:10Bazinyan made the mistake, made the mistake.
37:13Throwing that lazy jab from mid-range.
37:17Great timing and anticipation by Munguia.
37:19Tim, 45 landed body shots for Munguia compared to nine
37:23for Bazinyan.
37:25The odds, minus 1,000, Munguia plus 600 on the ESPN
37:29bet live money line.
37:32And it started at minus 14 for Munguia.
37:34So the odds moving towards Bazinyan, who's competitive
37:39in this fight, as Mark alluded to, 76-76 through
37:43eight rounds.
37:46Never been 12, never been past 10.
37:48So that's going to be a crucial moment if we get to
37:51that point in the fight.
37:52And still looking fresh.
37:54Has quickness in his hands as he lands on the body of
37:57Jaime Munguia.
37:58But it's jabs and straight shots, not those digging
38:01liver shots that we've seen from Munguia.
38:03Still inconsistent.
38:04He landed a right hand.
38:05And you can see what an effect it had on Munguia.
38:07Because Munguia now is moving, is moving back, trying to
38:10catch his wind.
38:11That right hand had some effect on him, down to that body.
38:16This is maybe a layoff round for Munguia.
38:22Yeah, and then you're going to get copped with one-twos
38:24by Bazinyan.
38:25No rest for the weary, says Eric Bazinyan, the unbeaten
38:29fighter.
38:30He's laying off this round.
38:33He's looking to catch his second wind in the 10th, 11th,
38:35and finish strong, possibly.
38:38We talked about him not having that wind for the
38:41fight.
38:42Both fighters land right hands.
38:44Yeah, those exchanges are dangerous, man.
38:46Those 50-50s, both with both men head is on the line.
38:49They throw right hands at the same time.
38:51Extremely dangerous.
38:53A lot of knockouts occur in mid-range with right hands,
38:55both men exchanging right hands.
38:57That was a nice stick from Munguia as Bazinyan landed a
39:00jab of his own.
39:01There's a body work from Munguia.
39:03The first warning for a borderline shot from referee
39:08Thomas Taylor.
39:12Straight right from Jaime Munguia.
39:14And he tried to steal a round.
39:16Yeah, he's trying to, he's attempting to steal the round
39:18and he's bringing that pressure.
39:21I mean, we talked about Munguia in his Southpaw,
39:23told you he had that in his bag of tricks.
39:25I don't know if that's a smart thing to do right now.
39:27Pull the arm out.
39:28Stop, stop, stop.
39:29But he's trying anything right now to offset Munguia
39:32in his approach.
39:35Punch behind the head from Jaime Munguia.
39:37Brings a warning from Thomas Taylor.
39:39Nine rounds in, and this fight is competitive.
39:46What's up?
39:47Estamos bien?
39:48Are you feeling good?
39:50We're gonna pressure this round.
39:56This fight is close.
39:59We're gonna pressure.
40:00Go to the bottom.
40:03Number 10 coming up, gentlemen.
40:04Number 10.
40:07And we need to win these next three rounds.
40:0910, 11, 12.
40:12Take a look at when they both land to the right
40:14simultaneously, Tim.
40:15Yeah, again.
40:16Both 50-50 exchanges right here.
40:18They're off to a quick start.
40:21But they both throw a right hand at the same time.
40:23Bazian shoots that jab.
40:24He throws his right hand just slightly off the mark.
40:27You know, if it was actually his left that landed.
40:30It would've been more effective if it would've landed flush.
40:35It didn't land that flush.
40:37Yeah.
40:38You know, on that chin.
40:39It's kind of going brazen blood.
40:41Good crowd here inside the Desert Diamond Arena.
40:44Didn't get full extension, Jaime Munguia.
40:47Bazian misses with the right and catches it with the left
40:49coming around.
40:50And you mentioned earlier on, there's the jab, but there's
40:52nothing coming behind it.
40:53Now Bazian has something behind it.
40:55Good.
40:56There's a nice right hand.
40:58Now digging to the body is Jaime Munguia.
41:00The instructions were given by Eric Morales, the legendary
41:04fighter who gave us that trilogy against Marco Antonio Barrera,
41:08a historic one.
41:09The first Mexican to beat Manny Pacquiao as well.
41:14And when that man talks, you listen.
41:16This is exactly what Munguia is doing here in round 10.
41:18Yep, this is exactly what Munguia has to do.
41:22The key has always been to close the distance.
41:24Close the distance.
41:25Yes, he has to do it safely because Bazian has to be
41:28respected.
41:29He got heavy hands.
41:30However, he gets here, he's going to have his way.
41:33Yes, sir.
41:34Nice jab though from Bazian.
41:35As soon as the range changed, Bazian had success.
41:40Let's see if Bazian is going to set up a lateral trap.
41:42Let's see if he moves his feet, pick up his feet, have Munguia
41:45follow him, and then lay a trap as he's coming in.
41:51SportsCenter coming up immediately after our top ranked
41:53on ESPN show.
41:58Eric, got to get those up a little bit.
42:01Nice combination from Munguia.
42:03Great response from Bazian.
42:05Yes, I didn't know Bazian had that in him.
42:07Usually he just covers up.
42:08No, that was a nice catching shoot coming right up the middle.
42:11Munguia, again, being more aggressive this round,
42:14as he's coming into his trainer, as he should.
42:19Oh, nice.
42:20You see him how he set that up off that rotation, rolling
42:22underneath, putting all that weight onto his front leg to
42:26come with that left hook.
42:28Oh, that's a nice left.
42:29He did the same.
42:30Upstairs, downstairs.
42:31The same exact thing.
42:32Here comes the combination from Jaime Munguia.
42:34He's got Bazian on a defensive posture.
42:39The legs are not fully there for the fighter out of Canada.
42:43Jaime Munguia is smelling blood.
42:46And when this shark smells blood, oh, he goes for the
42:49finish, although that's a nice counter right from Bazian.
42:52Bazian right now, biting down, showing some grit right now.
42:55Got a little space, and now he's coming back with his offense.
42:58Oh, what a left hook.
43:02Bazian is really out on his feet as Jaime Munguia sees that.
43:07And he goes after him with 40 seconds left here in the 10th
43:11round, left uppercut.
43:12And now he's done, and he's down.
43:153, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9.
43:23The fight is over.
43:24The fight is done.
43:25Jaime Munguia has done it.
43:27He's on the turnbuckle because tonight he passed a huge test
43:32against Eric Bazian, who came in with resolve, who came in with
43:36skill, who came in with a plan, who came in with a jab.
43:40And that was out with a beautiful shot that cut him and
43:44finished him.
43:51Mexico lindo querido is playing in the arena, and look at the
43:55celebration in the corner of Jaime Munguia.
43:58That is how you finish a fight.
44:01Cut over the right eye is Eric Bazian and Tim.
44:05What a performance.
44:08And at last, what did he learn from the Canelo loss?
44:12That's the answer.
44:14You're exactly right.
44:16He managed, again, his energy.
44:20He stepped on the gas at the right time.
44:24He pressed forward when his trainer told him to press
44:27forward.
44:28He listened to him.
44:29And again, I told you, he had to cut the distance.
44:34That was the only way.
44:35And when he cut that distance, you saw how Bazian didn't like
44:38it.
44:39He did his best to try to keep his distance.
44:41However, that firepower, those combinations are lethal.
44:45And it's tough for anybody in his weight class to deal with
44:49that type of firepower.
44:51We're going to take a look at how it started, and then we're
44:54going to take a look at four shots of how it ended.
44:57This was a punch that hurt Bazian.
45:00Again, those level changes.
45:03Nice little level change to get himself on the inside.
45:06Here's the follow-up shot.
45:07Nice swivel jab, following up with another jab in the right
45:11hand.
45:12He knew he had his man hurt right here.
45:14He felt him fading little by little each round.
45:18Bazian tries again to commit with some offense, but got
45:22caught in between.
45:24That nice little catch and shoot from Munguia caught him right
45:28on the money.
45:29Here it is on the inside.
45:31Bazian goes up.
45:32You see Munguia sitting down on that lead leg.
45:36Timed that left hook, saw that opening, and this is the rest
45:40of his history right here.
45:42He knew he had his man hurt, and he just knew he went for the
45:45finish, and that's all she wrote.
45:50I mean, Tim, to be able to cut a man with your fists, there's
45:55got to be something extra in those punches, and he just
45:59walked him down and was relentless in his finish.
46:03What round is this?
46:0410th.
46:05You see people throwing combinations like that with
46:07power?
46:08I'm telling you.
46:09Munguia's something else, you know.
46:11He's not one of those fighters that you can deter, like,
46:15really easy.
46:16You can't deter him.
46:17You know, he's going to take it, and he's also going to dish
46:21it.
46:22That's what makes him who he is.
46:24All right, let's send it up to Mark Shinnok for the time of
46:27the stoppage.
46:28Ladies and gentlemen, here inside Desert Diamond Arena,
