00:00Introducing out of the red corner, Introduire du coin rouge, he weighed in at 260 pounds,
00:14wearing green trunks with black trim.
00:18His record, 19 victories with one defeat, 18 of those victories coming by way of knockout,
00:27representing Montreal, Quebec, Canada, the lion Mcmoodle.
00:47In terms of how they got their start.
00:57A whole lot of humanity in the ring here.
00:59Mcmoodle, so he grows up in Russia, starts boxing when he's nine years old.
01:04He was in freestyle wrestling, then he gets into one of the Russian state university programs,
01:08so he comes up in the old tough Russian system, the amateurs, the European championships.
01:15Guido Villanueva grows up in a Roman family, a prominent Roman family known as the tennis
01:22family of Italy.
01:28Tennis academy, before he then goes on for a political science degree, he flips over
01:34to boxing and finds his truest love.
01:37Yes, and he was able to transition into boxing because tennis is a lot of footwork, it's
01:42similar to boxing, in a sense.
01:49And he became an Olympian as well, Tess.
01:55Guido tonight is going to have to use those legs.
01:58Mcmoodle is the type of fighter that likes to get close, likes to close range and beat
02:02on his opponents until he stops them and knocks them out.
02:06He actually beat on Guido many years ago, before what's now on their pro records and
02:11what they were calling the World Series of Boxing.
02:13It was all the way back in 2015 when Mcmoodle scored a fourth round knockout back in 2015.
02:20He had a huge age difference and size difference.
02:23Guido wasn't even the body you see now back then.
02:25What do we take away from the fact that they were in the ring nine years ago against each
02:30other?
02:31Familiarity.
02:32That's what it is.
02:33Tess, they know each other.
02:34They know what to expect.
02:36You know, Mcmoodle, speaking to him in the fighter meetings, he said that, hey, I know
02:39what he's going to do.
02:40He's going to try to move laterally.
02:41He's going to try to stay on the outside.
02:50He said, we're punching where our opponents is going now.
02:53We're learning how to cut off the ring, and he says he's going to apply that tonight.
02:57I'm seeing a little bit of it right now, Tess.
02:59Watch the left hook comes from Mcmoodle.
03:01He's going to look to punch where Guido is going.
03:06Force movement will be key for Villanueva tonight.
03:09Oh, there's a right uppercut that comes in from Villanueva.
03:14See Mcmoodle, he has to have his feet set.
03:16He's all about power.
03:17Power, power, power.
03:19When you make the power guy pick up his feet, what happens is you make him change positions.
03:24Every time you see that little half a step, he gets a step, he has to change his stance.
03:29He's not set to punch.
03:31Guido landed a check hook as Mcmoodle came forward.
03:34He's had a few moments here in round number one.
03:36He has to always reposition his feet, pick up his feet.
03:40He doesn't have a solid footing underneath him to be able to generate a whole lot of
03:43power.
03:44The distance is kind of getting to Mcmoodle because he's rushing in.
03:48Watch that uppercut coming from Villanueva.
03:53It will come and he will time it as Mcmoodle moves in to try to close distance.
04:01Coming to the end of round number one, our heavyweight co-feature is scheduled for ten
04:15and then we get the much-anticipated showdown of Billy and Derivian Chango.
04:23He heard him with that right hand, Seth.
04:29That was a great end to round number one for Guido Villanueva.
04:32He had moments throughout, but then the right hand, Timmy, to finish out that first round,
04:38he had Mcmoodle hurt.
04:39Let's go back and show you some of the highlights from that first round.
04:42Look, if you're going to be mid-range, you've got to be doing something or you've got to
04:45protect yourself.
04:46Guido just taking advantage of just the hand placement of Mcmoodle.
04:50He comes in with that uppercut right here in the second round.
04:54Anyways.
04:56We're going to get you to that right hand because he just did damage here in the second
05:00round.
05:01We do not want to lose any of the action that's coming your way, but Guido Villanueva is off
05:04to a very good start.
05:05Yes, he is.
05:06He's boxing well.
05:07He's already frustrated Mcmoodle.
05:08Mcmoodle's legs does not look stable, Tess.
05:13Does not look stable at the moment.
05:16One thing that I saw in his loss against Khabib, yes, there was technical flaws.
05:20There were a ton of them.
05:22He can't box.
05:23He can't deal with a boxer.
05:24He can't even pick up his feet, but however, what I really saw was he didn't have hard
05:29Tess.
05:30He doesn't, how big he is, that's what I saw.
05:34That's what I took from that fight when he lost against Khabib.
05:37No hard.
05:38If you have no hard in boxing, guess what?
05:41You're not going anywhere in the sport.
05:48And why do I say that, Tess?
05:49Because I felt that he quit.
05:51I felt that he had no clue of how to beat Khabib.
05:55He got beat down to the body, and he quit in there.
06:00Wild swinging with that right hand.
06:03Villanueva tried to catch him on the way in with a right of his own.
06:06So Villanueva did damage at the end of one.
06:09Did damage here at the beginning.
06:13At all.
06:14Good shot right there.
06:15Sharp right hand came in from Mcmoodle.
06:21Let's go, guys.
06:22Come on.
06:23Stop.
06:24No push.
06:33Ooh, what a right hand.
06:35The one, two, and the right hand landed.
06:38Every time they separate and come together, there's always some action, Tess.
06:44Big punches being thrown by both heavyweights.
06:48Mcmoodle, what he's doing is he's trying to time Guido.
06:51That's what he's trying to do.
06:52He's trying to time him.
06:54He's looking for the right hand.
06:57But what I like about Guido and what he's doing is he's attacking, too.
07:01He's just not boxing on his back foot.
07:03No, he's attacking as well.
07:06And he's trying to beat the fighter.
07:12And he's trying to beat the fight out of Mcmoodle.
07:20Ooh.
07:21Came in with the lead left hook.
07:23Final moments of round two.
07:25Don't start that.
07:28Box.
07:29Let's go.
07:30Come on.
07:41Round number three.
07:51In front of a big crowd here in Quebec City.
07:54Heavyweight action.
07:55Guido Villanueva off to a good start.
07:57He's landed 17 power punches through two rounds against Mcmoodle.
08:01Look at this.
08:02This is a great read right here.
08:03You see Villanueva coming around with the left hook to set up and line up that right hand.
08:09That's just great body reading.
08:10Just reading the body.
08:12Seeing Mcmoodle.
08:13You see him drop levels and he just brought that uppercut right underneath.
08:21Great shot right there from Villanueva.
08:24The veteran trainer from Montreal.
08:26Right uppercut that comes in.
08:29Now he brings it back with the right hand.
08:30Goes to the body as well.
08:32The confidence of Guido Villanueva was bubbling up.
08:36Three-punch combination.
08:37Right uppercut came in again.
08:38But Mark Ramsey, the trainer of Mcmoodle, who's also the trainer of Christian Billy,
08:42we'll see him in the main event, who's also the trainer of the light heavyweight champion,
08:45said you're not ready, Mcmoodle, for what he's bringing to you.
08:49He's coming to you and you're not ready for it.
08:52Mcmoodle right now, he's fighting.
08:54He's fighting for his career right now.
08:59Stuck in that corner.
09:00He's taking those shots well.
09:02He is off balance.
09:03But he's coming back with his own offense.
09:05He's got to be weary.
09:06That left hook.
09:08A hurt fighter is a dangerous fighter.
09:10Especially in this division.
09:12These are the big boys.
09:13It doesn't take much.
09:14You can see that left eye is swelling.
09:17That right hand flipping it.
09:19That eye is starting to close.
09:21They're going to have to get the end swell on that.
09:23Once he gets back in that corner, Mcmoodle, left eye is swollen.
09:26Let's check in with our ace reporter, Bernardo Asuna.
09:29And I was talking to Mark Ramsey about that right hand from Guido and he says,
09:32Look, these are the punches that happen in.
09:38Look at that eye.
09:39Left eye becoming a real big issue.
09:42And that's from the right hand, Tess.
09:44And that right hand is going to land more and more.
09:46Because he's not going to be able to see out of that eye real soon.
09:49Unless they get in that corner and they get that end swell right on that eye immediately.
09:53To take some of that swelling away.
09:56Let him go. No forcing. No force.
09:58Samuel Dakari is the cut man in the corner of Mcmoodle.
10:03That is significant swelling.
10:05Even in the last 30 seconds, the swelling has increased around the left eye of Mcmoodle.
10:11We will give you a really good look of it.
10:14And so where do you move, Tess?
10:15You move to your right. That's what you do.
10:17He just did another right hand on that left eye, Timmy.
10:26Left eye is a major issue.
10:30Right uppercut lands again from Guido on the inside.
10:34Love that inside work.
10:36By Guido.
10:42Oh, right hand. Right on the bell.
10:56Round number four.
10:58And that left eye of Mcmoodle is swelling significantly.
11:03As Guido Villanueva is in control.
11:05Looking for a critical win at this juncture of his career, Timmy.
11:09That was smart information right there given by Mark Ramsey.
11:12Telling Mcmoodle, you have to close the distance.
11:14He knows he has a one-eyed fighter.
11:16So he's got to close the distance.
11:18He's got to close the distance.
11:20That is exactly what Mark Ramsey wants him to do.
11:22As we were listening in on the corner.
11:24Saying, just tie him up, lean, use your size on him.
11:26You've got to slow down this attack of Guido Villanueva.
11:33Love the physicality on the inside.
11:35Not allowing the bully to try to bully him.
11:37I love the way Guido Villanueva is moving.
11:39He's got a lot of power.
11:41He's got a lot of power.
11:43He's got a lot of power.
11:45He's got a lot of power.
11:47He's got a lot of power.
11:49I love the way Villanueva is just being physical.
11:52Using that energy on the inside.
11:54Bernardo.
11:56I just spoke with Samantha Curry, who is a cutman for Mcmoodle.
11:59No rocket scientist, but the eye is completely closed.
12:02Look at this video.
12:04This is the video of the work that Curry was trying to do.
12:07In between rounds.
12:09That's it. Stop.
12:11Left eye, as you can see here in the midst of round number four, is getting worse.
12:16Heavyweight is in our co-feature.
12:18If we get to ten rounds, scheduled for ten.
12:20And then, Christian and Billy.
12:2227-0 with 23 knockouts.
12:24The super middleweight number one contender.
12:26Against the three-time world title challenger, Sergei Derevyanchenko.
12:33Saw Mcmoodle looking towards this corner.
12:35Looking for help.
12:37Oh, what an uppercut.
12:39And a left hook to answer.
12:41Power punch connect percentage at 43% for Guido Villanueva.
12:44He's looking the best we have seen him.
12:46Listen, he had a very humbling first loss back in January of 2023.
12:50He's coming off of a loss in his last fight.
12:52But in all actuality, he performed very well in that last fight.
12:56And you can see the confidence coming off of it.
12:59And the experience from that fight as well.
13:03Guido will be a fool if he gets knocked out.
13:06He's in full control right now.
13:08He has a wounded man right in front of him.
13:11He's landed the harder, more effective punches as well thus far.
13:15If he gets too greedy or get relaxed, he can find himself on the canvas test.
13:29If I'm in Guido's corner, I'm saying keep it simple.
13:32Use your jab, box, baby. That's what we're going to do.
13:34Just box. Make him miss and make him pay.
13:37One or two punches at a time. We don't need threes and fours.
13:40We don't want him to time us in between shots.
13:44Our big 260 pounder is trying to run straight into him and survive here.
13:48Final seconds of round four.
14:03Take a short break. We'll come right back to heavyweight action from Quebec.
14:13Two heavyweights who are desperate for a win, Tim.
14:16Yeah, McMurdo has no choice but to try to close the distance
14:19and get lucky and land something on Guido.
14:23Bernardo spoke to the ringside physician who's assessing that left eye.
14:27What can you tell us?
14:28The assessment was...
14:33It's all right for now. That was the assessment.
14:36It's all right for now.
14:38It's all right for now.
14:40It's all right for now. That was the assessment of Dr. Marc Gagné.
14:44He's going back to the corner now.
14:46Guess what? He's going to have to assess it now because it just got worse.
15:01You heard him say, I'm going to let you go.
15:03Marc Gagné is saying, I'm going to let you go,
15:05but you have to show something because it is almost closed.
15:08Guido Villanueva is probably a few strikes of that left eye away
15:13from a significant TKO win in his career.
15:18Short work on the inside was solid.
15:21I just don't understand the 50-50 exchanges from Guido.
15:25I don't understand why you're doing that.
15:27Just keep boxing and moving, using your jab.
15:30Just keep losing him up. Keep your distance.
15:32Don't exchange with this man.
15:34You give him opportunities when you sit there and go 50-50.
15:38Equal positioning in exchange with him.
15:40Now Guido's cut on his eye.
15:42You can see that cut on the inside brow of the right eye.
15:50See the blood from the tall Italian.
15:57Fight's definitely gotten sloppy.
15:59Very sloppy here in round five.
16:01But as we heard from the ringside position, Guido could put an end to it.
16:05That left eye is nearly shut, and if it closes fully,
16:10and if the doctor feels that Makhmudov cannot properly defend himself
16:15in losing the sight of that left eye, he's going to call it into this fight.
16:20He can't see out of that eye.
16:23That right hand was almost on it.
16:31But as you said, these 50-50 exchanges,
16:33there's always a chance for Makhmudov.
16:36Wide swinging off the mark.
16:38Makhmudov's starting to get dirty and physical on the inside.
16:41He's doing anything he can to disrupt and stop the attacks of Villanello.
16:54Remember, at the conclusion of this heavyweight co-feature,
16:56we will get to the sensational power punching.
17:00Christian Mbili in the main event.
17:01He has 23 knockouts with a 27-0 mark,
17:05and he goes up against the three-time world title challenger,
17:07Sergei Derevyanchenko.
17:12We always talk about the importance of fundamentals
17:14and why they're so important.
17:16I don't care how hard you hit.
17:18If you can't block or defend or dodge shots,
17:22if your defense isn't tight, you're not going to last long in the business.
17:25You end up in this position right here that Makhmudov is.
17:30Guido, patiently trying to work behind that jab,
17:33as he has Makhmudov in the corner.
17:41End of five, but let's go to the corner of Makhmudov.
17:45That's where there's urgency.
17:49Now, this guy only look for your right.
17:51Okay?
17:52He only look for your right and finish with the ball.
17:56Finish with the left, okay?
17:59Finish with the left.
18:06You understand what I say?
18:08Same thing.
18:09When you're on the rope and you wait for this guy,
18:11and don't attack.
18:14And don't attack.
18:17Did you see?
18:18Close your right eye.
18:20How many fingers did you see?
18:23I come back.
18:24When you wait for him,
18:27not only try this punch,
18:31but short.
18:32Don't try large punch.
18:33Short punch.
18:38Come on, champion.
18:39Come on, champion.
18:41So you heard Dr. Gagne say,
18:44can you see?
18:45Of course, the fighter is going to say,
18:46yes, I can see.
18:51But we move on.
18:52Round number six.
18:53Villanueva in control.
18:55Makhmudov always dangerous.
18:59Let's bring in Mark Kriegel.
19:0250-45.
19:05Five rounds to nothing.
19:06Guido Villanueva.
19:08Remember something.
19:09The not-too-distant pass.
19:10Makhmudov was a prospective boogeyman yesterday at the weigh-in.
19:14He told Villanueva,
19:15I will destroy you.
19:17Well, Guido has not been intimidated.
19:19I have rarely seen a fighter come up in confidence so much from a loss.
19:24Yes, we were discussing that earlier.
19:35He's lost every round of this fight.
19:46You know who Guido sparred to get ready for this?
19:49In Ghana.
19:51Perfect.
19:55Round number seven.
19:57Guido Villanueva.
20:15You know, that's one thing that I would love a little bit more of.
20:18Is that body work.
20:20Guido right hand coming back for Makhmudov.
20:22got to be careful
20:27mcmudoff is standing against the ropes because he wants guido to come in he's like nah i don't
20:30want to move and try to chase you down nah i will stay right here and i'll try to time you
20:35as you come in stop let's go that left eye is
20:38it
20:51and a nice shot right to the heart right uppercut oh what a shot
21:00as mcmudoff looks to tie up and just lean on guido vianello test he's not seeing those shots
21:06coming no i'm sorry i mean he's getting hit flush with those right hands
21:18set up i knew it uppercut
21:24guido just a little off the mark with that uppercut hitting the chest
21:27of mcmudoff but that's a perfect punch mcmudoff keeps coming forward and rushing in
21:31oh what a sweeping right hand flush on that swollen left eye
22:01so
22:21this is the scene in the corner of mcmudoff do they stop it
22:31oh
22:38you see there in the neutral corner on the far right side that is the position dr ganye i
22:43guarantee you when he gets up on a stool and they start this round he's going to want to inspect that
22:48left eye and this fight may come to a close and guido may have a tko win time here we go
22:56they're going to assess that left eye will this fight continue we get the answer right now
23:14he's going to let him fight off he said closure right
23:19he wants him to close his good eye and ask him how many fingers he sees
23:24oh my goodness it's ridiculous aren't you supposed to cover the eye test yeah i mean
23:31obviously the fighter's going to do anything he can to continue on fighting
23:35and he's from here as well you gotta understand
23:40and test you gotta understand what's at stake as well you know and his corner
23:46they believe he has a puncher's chance he can punch test and all he needs is
23:53to land one flush on viannello and get in the fight so they're not going to stop this match
24:02they understand what's at stake
24:11in a division where the big cash ticket is always right around the corner
24:17test the swelling now is starting to go on top of the eye yeah that's an issue
24:23his glove touched the canvas yeah that's a knockdown guido's on the attack
24:29yes his glove touched the canvas that should have been a knockdown
24:35he scored the punch makhmudov's glove touched the canvas that should have been scored a knockdown
24:53let's go let's go come on let him go let's go
25:11test that discipline of guido has paid off three punch combinations he's got him hurt badly
25:16the big man's in trouble against the ropes let's see if guido can close things here
25:24viannello patiently in control left eye is swollen shut damage has been done with combination comes
25:32in with the right uppercut 260 pounder just leaning on his look at that left eye look at that thing
25:42okay short right hand the swelling to your point is now wrapping around the
25:49side of the orbital bone up to the forehead does she worry about the eye the health of the eye
25:56doctor
26:08has inspected it two times on his own and taking time and has let him go out and they're going to
26:14let him get to the end of round seven a short right hand and another flush on the swelling of
26:19the eye fellas that was a 10-8 round the score is immaterial right now
26:36albert padullo should do what the doctor can stop the fight
26:57it's target practice
27:05um
27:29we're going to do this one more time i'd be shocked if it continues on
27:35The damage was done early and Guido Villanueva has a much needed win.
28:05Let's go back through this fight of what was a very good performance by Villanueva, Timmy.
28:23It all started with that right hand test. That's what it was all about. But first off,
28:27it was that uppercut right there splitting the guards of Mahmoud off. But that right hand placed
28:32on that chin and uppercuts. But the eye, that's the big story of the night. The eye. Was it caused
28:39by a headbutt or was it caused by a punch? We don't know. But that eye swelled up and created
28:45havoc for Mahmoud off through the course of the night. I mean, Guido fought as best as he possibly
28:51can tonight. Man, he came in with a plan. He was determined. You know, he's found a way to harness
29:00fear. This is a completely different fighter than we've seen him in the past. Trust me,
29:09I've seen him on the way up. Completely different fighter. He's a new heavyweight contender. I would
29:15say after this performance, what a hell of a performance by Guido Villanueva. There are the
29:21punch stats. 82 power punches landed through 7 rounds. Had a fight high 18 in the 7th round. He
29:32did damage with the right hand immediately in the 1st round. Let's make it official.
29:38We go up to the ring to Mark Chennault.
