00:00Well, we are already leading in skills in construction and what we want to do is to
00:16ensure that we can work with the new government and look at innovative ways to attract funding
00:22but to work with the partners and the stakeholders, including obviously our employers, to maximise
00:27those opportunities for the young people in our city region.
00:31We've made massive progress in closing the skills gap. In fact, for the first time ever,
00:37our NVQ level 2 rates across the city region are higher than the national average. Those
00:42things don't just happen by osmosis, there's a lot of work that's gone into that from people
00:47at the combined authority but from also our FE sector and our training provider base and
00:53we want to ensure that that continues to narrow that gap but also to look at specific
01:00areas where we can get growth so we know the skills shortage areas because we've done skills
01:05improvement plans in the city region and we need the government now to use the flexibility
01:10of the apprenticeship levy so that we can address those national skills shortages by
01:15getting local people here trained to the right qualification in the right skills areas.
