00:00Double the number of patients being treated by the residents of Canlaon City
00:04because of the volcano's eruption and the eruption of Hurricane Hiner.
00:10That's what Ryan Leziga reported.
00:13It's a disaster.
00:15The people are suffering.
00:20The residents of Canlaon City were traumatized.
00:24How come?
00:25Because of two calamities that they faced in the past few days.
00:29The Canlaon Volcano and the eruption of Hurricane Hiner.
00:34Lola Nicolasa is just praying that whenever the wind blows,
00:40the waves will come from the volcano.
00:43Because of the strong wind, the roof of her house was blown away.
00:47That's why she didn't hesitate to order the local government of Canlaon to evacuate.
00:53Lola Nicolasa is also with the hundreds of residents of Canlaon City
00:58who evacuated last week.
01:00I'm just praying.
01:03I'm not going to sleep.
01:05I'm not going to sleep.
01:07I'm going to open my eyes.
01:08I'm going to sleep.
01:10I'm not going to sleep tonight.
01:15To address the needs of those affected by the continued eruption of Canlaon Volcano
01:21that was accompanied by two more hurricanes,
01:24a Memorandum of Agreement was signed by the local government and DSWD Region 7
01:30for an additional fund that will be allocated to the victims of the calamity.
01:34In the special session held yesterday,
01:36the council immediately approved the request for P15 million from DSWD Cebu.
01:43It will be used to buy additional rice
01:46that will be distributed to the 17,000 families affected by the typhoon.
01:51The target of the LGU is to provide more than 12 kilos of rice to each family.
01:57So this is the IKUANA, the one in ACAP,
02:00the assistance in the end of the income program,
02:03rice assistance for the beneficiaries of Canlaon City.
02:09Some of the officials of Lungsod are now in charge
02:12because of the long rainy season in the area.
02:14For example, most people are paralyzed because of the bad weather.
02:20They are determined that if the situation continues,
02:23most residents of Canlaon will be hungry.
02:27I can only see the problem of the people
02:30when it's been seven days without work and it's raining.
02:34I think 40 to 50 percent of the people there work in farms.
02:44If there's no work, there's nothing to do.
02:46There's no widespread flooding,
02:47but the possible lahar flow is being closely monitored.
02:50PHIVOX said that there's still a pile of ash
02:53in the mouth of the volcano after it exploded on June 3.
02:58The deposits that were left during the lahar in June,
03:06this is still continuously washed out.
03:10This is called a mainstream flow
03:14because the larger portion is water,
03:18but the deposits that were left during June
03:24are continuously washed out.
03:27Whenever a volcano erupts following an explosion
03:31and pouring of rain,
03:33it is often followed by lahar flow.
03:35But what is the so-called lahar?
03:38PHIVOX said that lahar is the second disaster
03:41that occurred after the eruption of a volcano.
03:44It is a mixture of volcanic material such as ash,
03:47rocks, and water that quickly flowed from the mouth of the volcano
03:52towards the rivers in its mouth.
03:54This happens after heavy rainfall.
03:58Lahar may be fragile,
03:59but it can still be damaged in areas such as houses
04:03and most of all, people's lives are affected
04:06In order to avoid certain dangers brought by lahar,
04:09residents living in the mouth of the volcano
04:12are advised to be alert at all times,
04:15avoid rivers in the mouth of the volcano,
04:18and most of all,
04:19avoid experiencing heavy rainfall.
04:23Our advice to our general public
04:27is to continue our vigilance
04:31and to be prepared
04:33and also to avoid entering within the 4km permanent danger zone
04:38because our volcano is active
04:41and it can produce a phreatic eruption.
