01:01Grumpy by name and even more grumpy by nature.
01:09The following morning, he was out in his garden pulling up flowers.
01:13He couldn't stand pretty flowers growing in his garden.
01:17When out of the corner of his eye, he saw a figure.
01:21It was Mr. Happy.
01:23Good morning, said Mr. Happy.
01:26Good, said Mr. Grumpy.
01:28What's good about it?
01:30But, said Mr. Happy,
01:32but nothing, went on Mr. Grumpy.
01:35Get out of my garden.
01:37I beg your pardon, said Mr. Happy.
01:41You heard me, snapped Mr. Grumpy.
01:44Go away!
01:45I say, laughed Mr. Happy,
01:47you're a bad-tempered fellow.
01:49Humph! grunted Mr. Grumpy.
01:53And, went on Mr. Happy,
01:55bad-tempered fellows need to change their ways.
01:59Grumish, retorted Mr. Grumpy.
02:03And, went into his cottage, deliberately stepping on Mr. Happy's foot as he passed him.
02:07Oh! Oh! Oh!
02:09said Mr. Happy.
02:13Bang! went the door of Crosspatch Cottage,
02:16as Mr. Grumpy slammed it behind him.
02:19Mr. Happy stood there, looking not quite so happy as he normally does.
02:23His foot hurt.
02:25He thought, and thought, and thought some more.
02:30Then, he had an idea.
02:33He smiled, and went to see Mr. Tickle.
02:37Mr. Happy told Mr. Tickle of his idea of how to get Mr. Grumpy to change his ways.
02:42And, Mr. Tickle grinned the sort of grin that goes from ear to ear,
02:47that is, if you have ears, which he doesn't.
02:52Oh! He grinned, rubbing the hands at the end of those extraordinarily long arms of his together.
02:59That sounds fun!
03:03That afternoon, Mr. Grumpy went to town, shopping.
03:06He walked into Mr. Meat's shop.
03:08Mr. Meat was a butcher.
03:10Give me some sausages, snapped Mr. Grumpy, and be quick about it.
03:16Poor Mr. Meat, who was frightened of Mr. Grumpy, did as he was told.
03:21But, as he was doing as he was told, something appeared through his shop doorway.
03:28Do you know what it was?
03:31It was an extraordinarily long arm belonging to...
03:35Well, you can guess who it belonged to, can't you?
03:38That extraordinarily long arm of Mr. Tickle's came in through the door and across the shop,
03:44up to Mr. Grumpy,
03:48and tickled him.
03:50Oh!
03:52Squeaked Mr. Grumpy in alarm, dropping his sausages,
03:55and looking round to see what had happened.
03:58But could he see anything?
04:00He could not.
04:02Oh! Grunted Mr. Grumpy, and picked up his sausages,
04:07and went next door, to the cake shop.
04:10Crash! Went the door of the shop.
04:12Give me a cake!
04:14Snapped Mr. Grumpy.
04:15Adieu!
04:18Poor Mrs. Fairy, who sold cakes, was frightened of Mr. Grumpy,
04:21so she did as she was told.
04:24But, as she was doing as she was told, guess what happened?
04:29Oh! Squeaked Mr. Grumpy, dropping his cake and his sausages.
04:36He just could not understand what was happening.
04:39And the same thing happened at Mr. Daly's, the newspaper shop,
04:42at Mrs. Humbug's, the sweet shop,
04:44and at Mr. Bottler's Dairy, and at Mr. Packard's, the grocer's.
04:49It went on all afternoon.
04:53And all afternoon, Mr. Grumpy kept being tickled.
04:59Dropping his shopping, and picking it up, and being tickled,
05:02and dropping his shopping, and picking it up, and being tickled,
05:04and dropping his shopping, and...
05:06He just couldn't understand it.
05:09On his way home to Crosspatch Cottage, he met Mr. Happy again.
05:14Hello, little Mr. Happy.
05:17Having a nice day?
05:20Get out of my way, snapped Mr. Grumpy, before I kick you.
05:26But, almost before the words had passed his lips,
05:30that extraordinarily long arm of Mr. Tickle's
05:33had appeared from behind a tree and tickled him yet again.
05:37He jumped in the air and dropped all his shopping, yet again, and fell over.
05:43Mr. Happy looked down at Mr. Grumpy lying in a jumble of sausages,
05:46and cake, and newspapers, and sweets, and milk, and cornflakes.
05:50I think he laughed that if you were to change your ways,
05:55and not be quite so bad-tempered, quite so often,
05:58this sort of thing might not happen to you quite so often.
06:03Oh, grunted Mr. Grumpy.
06:07He picked up all his shopping, yet again,
06:10and went home to Crosspatch Cottage.
06:14But on his way, he did think about what Mr. Happy had said,
06:18because he very definitely did not like what had happened to him that afternoon.
06:25Mr. Happy and Mr. Tickle laughed and shook hands.
06:31And so after that,
06:33Mr. Grumpy did try not to be quite so bad-tempered, quite so often.
06:39And the more he tried, the less he found he was tickled.
06:43And so he tried more and more,
06:45and these days he's quite a changed person.
06:48Why, only the other evening, he picked up a book,
06:52and you know what?
06:55He only tore out one page.
