00:55Government data shows that in December 2023,
00:58there were 1.1 million foreign workers in Singapore
01:01who earned less than US$3,000 per month,
01:04including 286,300 domestic workers
01:08and 441,100 workers in the construction,
01:12shipping and processing sectors.
01:14Many of these migrant workers come from neighboring countries
01:17such as Malaysia, China, Bangladesh and India,
01:20as well as the Philippines, a country with a majority of Catholic population.
01:23The Humanitarian Organization for the Migration Economy,
01:26an LSM that provides services for migrant workers in Singapore,
01:29welcomes PAUS' statement
01:31by saying it fully agrees with PAUS' call for a fair wage.
