00:00Hello and welcome to the third Manx Football Podcast of the 24-25 season.
00:05In this week's episode, we hear from Carlo Iñárritu's former Peel star, Fredo Donoghue.
00:10We'll get to this week's fixtures and wrap up a memorable week for FC Isle of Man.
00:20Right, Tom, you spoke to Freddie via the wonders of Zoom.
00:25Actually, stop that. Take a minute, take a second.
00:28Hello. Hello. Hello.
00:31Very informal, very rude of me.
00:34No Adam Bourne today, though.
00:35That's why I'm all over the place.
00:37He's still a calming influence, isn't he? Except when he's thrown into an animal feces situation.
00:42That's true. Yeah, he's a bit of a mess all the time.
00:44He's totally complained, hasn't he? That's why he's not here today.
00:46We've still not heard from the FA about that, have we?
00:49No, we have not. So we don't know what's going to happen with that, really.
00:52So it's still, as we, the battle of the station fields is what we're talking about.
00:55If you didn't listen to this week's part, I do recommend you give it a listen.
00:58Or a watch, as you can these days, because we do have the photographic evidence.
01:02We do, we do.
01:03It's with the League Management Committee at the moment.
01:06This is Columbia's match with Cast Town that never happened the other week.
01:09So, yes, it's a case of, just, it's a place over at the moment, isn't it?
01:14So ideally, I think the player management meeting was on...
01:17League management meeting.
01:18Yeah, I keep calling that. League management meeting was on Tuesday.
01:20Just gone.
01:21Just gone. So there's a likelihood it is. We might get something from the FA.
01:24Yes.
01:25So hopefully when Adam's back next week, we might have a bit of a...
01:28Clyde Myrie will have an update for you then.
01:31But this week, you spoke to Freddie.
01:33By the powers of Zoom and the internet, he's in Carlisle United.
01:36So tell us a bit about Freddie, for those of us, the listeners that don't know about him.
01:41So Freddie, a Peel junior, more or less the whole way through.
01:43He did have a year of morale, I must add. I did mention him that.
01:46And that's really humane.
01:48But no, he played a bit up in Scotland.
01:50He got spotted when he played a game for Dundee FC against Carlisle.
01:55And then Carlisle took a punt on him.
01:57I think he said he scored a fair few goals against Carlisle,
02:00maybe in an under-18s match or something like that.
02:02Carlisle took a punt on him.
02:03And he made his debut not long ago.
02:05Yes.
02:06And he won a trophy.
02:07Yeah, and he spoke all about what it's like.
02:10I think we did a story in the paper from Douglas Road to Bruneton Park.
02:13It's quite some rise.
02:15And it's always nice, I think, to see a player coming from the Isle of Man
02:19go and show them what you can do.
02:21I think I saw one comment on one of our posts saying,
02:24go and show them what Peel boys can do.
02:26And I think that's quite nice, isn't it?
02:28So you've got a lovely 40-minute chat with him now.
02:30So we'll press, try the wonders of iMovie.
02:33Other editing facilities are available.
02:35We'll listen to that now.
02:40So, Freddie, first question I've got for you basically is,
02:43how is life in Carlisle?
02:45It's all right, to be fair.
02:47A bit different to old Peel, but I've settled in quite well.
02:53And how's the football going?
02:54Obviously, people are interested in you.
02:56People want to know how it's going.
02:58And you made your debut the other day at Bruneton Park.
03:01Talk to me a bit about the emotions that was like playing,
03:03stepping out there for the first time.
03:08I got used to the fact of playing in front of people,
03:11like throughout pre-season and everything.
03:14But, you know, I couldn't quite...
03:16It was halftime, I was getting warm,
03:19just doing a bit on the pitch.
03:21Obviously, at halftime, the fans go out to the stadium,
03:23go get a beer or whatnot, or a pie.
03:26And I was thinking, I was just warming up as usual.
03:29The kit man runs over to me, hands me my shirt,
03:32says, you know what you're going on?
03:33I said, no, I've got no clue.
03:35Obviously, I had like five minutes,
03:38which is probably for the best, you know,
03:39so I didn't really overthink or anything.
03:41Five minutes I had to sort of get ready,
03:45prepare myself, put my stuff on.
03:47And, you know, I was out there.
03:48So at the time, I didn't really think much of it.
03:51But afterwards, you think like, shit, I've just done that.
03:55Yeah, absolutely.
03:56Yeah, I can imagine that's quite a surreal moment.
03:59Did you, full-time, did you have to do many interviews,
04:02stuff like that, or were you just straight off?
04:04To be fair, just straight into the changing room
04:08and Gaff spoke.
04:11And then the media team just sort of pulled me and said,
04:15look, I was there.
04:16Asked me a few questions.
04:18And that was about it, really.
04:19But it wasn't anything extensive.
04:21Is it been difficult getting used to all this,
04:23like, attention and stuff like that?
04:25I know back here, when playing for Peel,
04:26you probably didn't get anywhere near amount of coverage
04:29and you're seeing your name.
04:30I went on the website and there's a nice big picture of you.
04:32So seeing yourself everywhere and stuff like that
04:34must be quite surreal.
04:36Yeah, to be fair, when it first started,
04:39I was thinking, Jesus, you'd be happy to be in the team
04:42in a week back home.
04:43That'd be enough.
04:45Oh, in the team in a week.
04:46Boys, look at that.
04:47But I think what was, I try and think the first thing
04:51that was football manager was the first,
04:55because obviously me boys all played football manager
04:58and that was the first thing.
05:00I thought, Jesus.
05:01And then just more and more came.
05:03And I think I got used to it from there.
05:05To be fair, I think I got used to it.
05:07Fair enough.
05:08I remember speaking to Adam Long
05:09and he said the first thing that he first realised
05:11he'd done well was football manager as well.
05:13I think straight away, that's what people look for.
05:16Get yourself on FIFA Next and you're happy days, aren't you?
05:19So there's been a change in management
05:22since you've been there as well.
05:23What's that been like?
05:24Has that been difficult or?
05:26To be fair, yeah.
05:27I think all the players, like we're all,
05:29I was brought in under obviously Paul Simpson,
05:32Gav Skelton and Billy Barr came in January,
05:35I think of last year.
05:37And to be fair, all the staff,
05:39that was what I was used to, to be fair.
05:41So when they go, obviously they've done so much
05:44for me personally.
05:45It's a bit gutting seeing all them go.
05:48But I can't thank them enough, really.
05:51They got me to where I was,
05:53gave me the opportunity in the first place.
05:54But strange, obviously.
05:56I haven't really, first time I've had to deal
05:58with anything like that.
06:00And yeah, it was weird, a bit gutting
06:03when it first happened, a bit weird.
06:04But I think you've sort of got to get over it,
06:06haven't you? It's football.
06:07Yeah, absolutely.
06:08And you mentioned when we spoke a bit for the paper,
06:11you said that you came from Scotland.
06:13I just want to know a bit about that.
06:14So did you play for Dundee at the start?
06:16Is that where you went?
06:17Yeah, so it was a weird situation
06:22where I'd sort of, I'd been playing
06:25on the Isle of Man and a lad called Jacko,
06:29who I know, sort of said,
06:31he was watching me play and he said,
06:33do you want to go on trial up in Scotland?
06:35And obviously as a kid, you're like,
06:37I ain't going.
06:38And I was like, Dad, we're going up to Scotland
06:40for this trial.
06:41And he was game, to be fair.
06:43So we went up to Dundee FC and I was there
06:47for a while.
06:48I was trialling, trialling.
06:49And they basically got me in
06:51and I was playing games.
06:53And then obviously the next step's
06:55an 18s contract.
06:57But as I was doing that, I think I'd been
06:59spotted by Rangers.
07:01And something had happened with Rangers.
07:03So I went there to train and trial.
07:06And towards the end of it, you know,
07:08you sort of see yourself.
07:09To be fair, I don't think they wanted us.
07:11And you see yourself.
07:12You see yourself.
07:14Like getting further and further away
07:16from, you know, getting a contract.
07:18And I sort of thought, you know what,
07:19all this travelling for what?
07:21So I sort of just came back to the Isle of Man
07:23just to play.
07:24I'd basically forgotten all about it,
07:26to be honest.
07:27And then turns out whilst I was at Dundee,
07:30we played Carlisle in a tournament.
07:37Sorry about that.
07:38Played Carlisle in a tournament.
07:41They'd been impressed.
07:42I think I'd scored a few.
07:50I'd scored a few goals.
07:52Played well.
07:53Basically, push, come to shove.
07:54I'm playing them again to the Island team.
07:57And obviously they'd seen me before.
07:59And it was all sort of,
08:00they'd been keeping an eye on me.
08:02Yeah, that's just sort of
08:03the whole crack with Scotland.
08:05But I think definitely,
08:06it definitely helped me a lot.
08:08Happy days.
08:09And now you've had your,
08:10now you've had your like,
08:11it's almost like a bit of a teaser that
08:12you've played in front of the crowd.
08:13You've made your debut.
08:14What are you looking for this season now?
08:16Is it looking for just to push on
08:18and get as many minutes as you can?
08:19Or have you got any targets, any goals?
08:22Like I said,
08:23when we spoke for the paper,
08:24I said I'd be absolutely buzzing
08:26if you'd have told me this had happened.
08:28But obviously it does motivate you.
08:30You want to work hard.
08:32But,
08:34I don't really,
08:35I don't really like to set too many goals.
08:38I just sort of,
08:39I've always sort of been
08:40quite easy going with it all,
08:41you know, see what happens.
08:42But definitely,
08:43obviously the main aspiration is
08:45as many minutes of
08:46professional football as possible.
08:48That's what you want.
08:49See how it goes.
08:50Obviously, everyone back in Peel
08:51is massively proud of you.
08:53Obviously, they shared the post,
08:55I think, and said how well you've done.
08:57You thanked,
08:58I think it was Justin Jackson and Bella
09:00were the two standout ones
09:01that I recognise their names of.
09:04How inspirational were they for you
09:06in getting to where you are now?
09:07And what was the type of advice
09:08they were giving you when you were younger
09:09that made you get this far now?
09:12To be fair,
09:14obviously coaches at Peel,
09:15Bella,
09:16Chappie,
09:17everyone that I had,
09:18Cliffie, everyone that,
09:19you know,
09:20went through with,
09:21they were always just
09:22good to me,
09:23do you know what I mean?
09:24From a young lad.
09:25And then,
09:26Justin Jackson,
09:27it's like,
09:28he's my hero to be fair.
09:29He's always,
09:30always been on top of me
09:31making sure I'm doing right things.
09:33He was the one that helped me
09:34with everything in Scotland,
09:35which I think set me in good stead.
09:38And, you know,
09:39he'd been in the game
09:40and I think his advice
09:41really just sort of,
09:43you know,
09:44he made it feel like
09:45more achievable,
09:46you know,
09:47going away and getting a career.
09:48And, you know,
09:49he made it feel
09:50more achievable than,
09:51you know,
09:52I probably thought
09:53in the first place.
09:54Yeah, obviously he's done it,
09:55so he's kind of showed
09:56how to do it,
09:57hasn't he?
09:58Yeah.
09:59So, yeah,
10:00he's just sort of
10:01guided me through it
10:02and then Bella and everyone,
10:03they sort of,
10:04but, you know,
10:05they were just
10:06someone to lean on,
10:07I guess,
10:08when, you know,
10:09I'd sort of,
10:10hadn't gone my way up in Scotland
10:11and I thought this bit,
10:12you know,
10:13and, you know,
10:14them lot were,
10:15at Peel,
10:16they were there for me
10:17and they sort of,
10:18you know,
10:19got me back into
10:20playing football
10:21every week with my mates,
10:22which obviously was vital.
10:23Yeah.
10:24And do you
10:25keep up to date with them now?
10:26I know you mentioned to me
10:27that you're still
10:28looking out at Peel scores.
10:29Do you still follow them all?
10:30Yeah.
10:31Yeah,
10:32I'm bang on it,
10:33to be fair.
10:34Well, I try to be
10:35as much as I can.
10:36I was actually,
10:37I was on the coach
10:38back from Bradford
10:39and I was watching
10:40Peel highlight
10:41and, like,
10:42obviously some of the players
10:43have grown up in
10:44academies
10:45and, you know,
10:46they're like,
10:47what are you watching there?
10:48It's just me pals back home.
10:49They couldn't believe
10:50that I was watching
10:51me pals
10:52playing.
10:53But yeah,
10:54no,
10:55I still love it
10:56and, like,
10:57every time I go back,
10:58come back home,
10:59even though it is rare,
11:00every time I go back home,
11:01that's, you know,
11:02the first thing
11:03I want to do
11:04is go and watch Peel play.
11:05Yeah,
11:06and they've got
11:07good set up now.
11:08I think you even mentioned that
11:09for a Manx football team now,
11:10Peel,
11:11the facilities up there,
11:12I mean,
11:13I personally love the bar up there,
11:14but, I mean,
11:15they're down there now
11:16and they've kind of got it
11:17nailed to a T,
11:18don't they?
11:19Yeah,
11:20it's good for Manx football
11:21to be fair.
11:22You know,
11:23I think with the right backing
11:24and, you know,
11:25I know it's been struggling
11:26at the moment a little bit,
11:27but with the right backing,
11:28the right coverage
11:29and everything,
11:30I think Manx football
11:31is obviously a great thing.
11:32It's what people want
11:33to speak about,
11:34do you know what I mean?
11:35And you can support
11:36local, you know,
11:37local businesses,
11:38get involved,
11:39charities and everything.
11:40I think,
11:41I do think it is great
11:42and what Peel have done,
11:43I think,
11:44loads of clubs
11:45should be, like,
11:46looking at that
11:47and thinking,
11:48you know,
11:49it's achievable.
11:50Yeah.
11:51Before we just move away
11:52from Carlisle,
11:53I want to ask a bit,
11:54what's life like
11:55outside of football?
11:56Are you getting to enjoy
11:57much of Carlisle
11:58while you're there?
11:59To be fair,
12:00it's obviously a lovely place
12:01in the world, isn't it?
12:02Lake District,
12:03it's only 20 minutes
12:04from the Lake District,
12:05so,
12:06I go there,
12:07it's got some good golf courses,
12:08a minute of me golf.
12:09So, yeah,
12:10normally,
12:11just,
12:12when I've got the time,
12:13it's the most important thing,
12:14you don't get much time off,
12:15you know,
12:16proper time off.
12:17But,
12:18I like to go
12:19play golf around Carlisle,
12:20obviously.
12:22The Lake District as well,
12:23it's lovely to go,
12:24even just for a walk
12:25with some of your pals,
12:26it is relaxing,
12:27it is nice.
12:28Happy days,
12:29you can't go out to nightclubs
12:30and stuff there,
12:31not like back home,
12:32you can get away with it at Peel.
12:33No, no, no,
12:34not here, like.
12:35It's a bit more professional.
12:37Yeah,
12:38you've got to be professional.
12:39Yeah,
12:40absolutely.
12:41Just on Peel,
12:42though,
12:43you play with all your mates,
12:44you play with a,
12:45like,
12:46a very good group of lads
12:47coming through.
12:48Is there anyone in particular
12:49that you think maybe
12:50could go across
12:51and play?
12:52Anyone other than you
12:53that you think could do well?
12:55To be fair,
12:56I think all the lads
12:57that I went with
12:58were all unbelievable for,
13:00as a team,
13:01everyone was unbelievable
13:02and there's
13:03loads and loads of talent
13:04on the Isle of Man.
13:06It's just about,
13:07it's just about
13:08getting found,
13:09putting the work in.
13:10And, you know,
13:11obviously it's a different game
13:12over here,
13:13but I think definitely
13:14a few of them,
13:15a few of them could
13:16definitely give it a go
13:17and I'm sure they'd be alright.
13:19But a lot of praise
13:20has been given to Peel Juniors
13:21for obviously making you
13:22the player you are,
13:23but I believe
13:24you originally started
13:25at this team right here,
13:27didn't you, Freddie?
13:30Did you,
13:31I got told about this
13:32after we did
13:33the newspaper article,
13:34otherwise I would have
13:35given them the bits, man.
13:36Who told you that?
13:37So I was in the Crosby
13:38and Niall,
13:39it was Niall Gibney actually,
13:40and he said you were down
13:41at Moran at a very young age.
13:42Was it for long though?
13:43How long were you
13:44at Moran Juniors for?
13:47I had a year
13:48at Moran Juniors.
13:50Worst year of my life.
13:52No, no.
13:53To be fair,
13:54even Moran,
13:55like when I was at Moran,
13:56obviously a lot of my,
13:57a lot of my pals
13:58that moved to Peel
13:59were all at Moran,
14:00sort of,
14:01who I kicked about with.
14:02And even,
14:03even them,
14:04they were like,
14:05as much as it pains me
14:06to say it,
14:07and I probably shouldn't,
14:08they were great.
14:09And the team as well.
14:10I remember we had
14:11quite a good team
14:12back then.
14:13And I think,
14:14I think that sort of helped
14:15drag me to Moran for a year.
14:16But,
14:17like I say,
14:18I was very young.
14:19Yeah.
14:20My heart lies with Peel,
14:21definitely.
14:22Yeah, of course,
14:23of course.
14:24And that's what tends
14:25to happen to Moran teams.
14:26Obviously,
14:27we've got a good group,
14:28a bunch coming through Juniors
14:29and then they all disperse.
14:30So,
14:31yeah,
14:32it seems to be always the way,
14:33especially Peel,
14:34they come corn
14:35and I guess some people,
14:36they want to,
14:37they want to go out there.
14:38They want to go out there
14:39and play football against Laxey.
14:40The stand was full.
14:41So it's like,
14:42fair play to Peel
14:43dragging them crowds in.
14:44It's,
14:45it's incredible,
14:46really.
14:47It's like,
14:48it's weird
14:49because it does,
14:50it's not professional football,
14:51but you feel like there's people
14:52watching,
14:53even if it is your mum,
14:54your dad and your pals.
14:55Yeah.
14:56It does give,
14:57it's a good atmosphere.
14:58Yeah.
14:59Real good community there.
15:00So,
15:01Dave Norton was down there,
15:02one of our podcast hosts,
15:03I should say,
15:04actually,
15:05him and Andy,
15:06the hosts in there.
15:07Dave was down there
15:08and he said it was brilliant atmosphere,
15:09but the pasties had run out
15:10and I think I was the only reason
15:11he was there.
15:12So I think he was a bit gutted.
15:13Aye,
15:14pasties are good,
15:15to be fair.
15:16That's another,
15:17another selling point of Peel.
15:18Yeah.
15:19He's got a,
15:20he got a good game to watch though
15:21and Peel obviously won.
15:22I'll leave you with a final question.
15:23Peel face Onken
15:24this Saturday.
15:25Can you give us a score prediction
15:26for that?
15:27Onken,
15:28newly promoted.
15:29Have you got any idea
15:30of what the score will be?
15:31I don't want to be disrespectful.
15:33I'll say
15:345-0 Peel.
15:365-0 Peel.
15:37That's probably fair.
15:38Peel are in great form,
15:39to be fair.
15:40And I thought Laxley
15:41would give them more of a trouble,
15:42but yeah,
15:43Peel are,
15:44Peel are doing well at the top
15:45and I think it'll be
15:46between them and Aire again
15:47if I had to guess now.
15:48I didn't think that at the start
15:49of the season,
15:50but Peel have,
15:51I mean,
15:52they've got Taylor Brown
15:53is on fire at the minute.
15:54I've seen,
15:55aye.
15:56Yeah,
15:57the hat trick on Saturday.
15:58Yeah.
15:59Not bad at all.
16:00Well,
16:01that's perfect.
16:02Freddie,
16:03thanks so much for speaking to us.
16:04No worries,
16:05see you in a bit.
16:10Cracking interview,
16:11Tom,
16:12really enjoyed that.
16:13Freddie seems like a lovely lad.
16:14Yeah,
16:15he's only 17?
16:16He's only 17,
16:17he's very young
16:18and he's,
16:19it's quite,
16:20the bit I was most interested in
16:21that was,
16:22not so much about the football,
16:23the big thing about moving away
16:24from your family at that age
16:25to go and just,
16:26to just go on your own,
16:27live there.
16:28I know the fact you were
16:29going to Adam Long,
16:30Pinnington as well,
16:31he did it for a little bit of Berry,
16:32so like,
16:33it must be quite a big step
16:34to go out there,
16:35do it,
16:36play their football,
16:37and then it's like,
16:38but one thing he did say,
16:39he was not far away
16:40from the Lake District
16:41and he gets to go on nice walks.
16:42I did ask him about nightclubbing
16:43but he says he's quite
16:44a professional nowadays,
16:45so,
16:46yeah,
16:47and he's getting older
16:48as I come round here.
16:49And a nice mention of
16:50Justin Jackson
16:51and a few of the other guys
16:52that have helped him
16:53along the way as well,
16:54so yeah,
16:55great to hear that.
16:56Right,
16:57let's look ahead to
16:58this weekend's fixtures,
16:59Dave's,
17:00we've got the,
17:01how many games in the Cadillac Forever?
17:02Six games in the Cadillac Forever.

21:24boys on Tuesday, it was mainly fitness I think, it was mainly just putting them through the
21:28paces. I think that's almost a bit of a punishment kind of for how bad it was, but also maybe
21:33a bit of a wake-up call.
21:35Well, I'm guessing Brizzy wants it to be a bit of a deterrent, doesn't he?
21:38Yeah, he can't have it again.
21:40Yeah, he wants the players to know that they'll be punished if they don't play well.
21:45But it's almost, I think it's so inexcusable to lose to that score when you're in a derby
21:49game. Moran and Foxtail, there's a bit of a rivalry there that we've kind of forged
21:53basically.
21:54Yeah, you've bought them for exclusion there.
21:57Well, I just think Moran should be looking to put it right this weekend, and this one's
22:02a big one, and if you look at the table, I can't see Russian being down there towards
22:07the end of the season. Right now they are, and Moran needs points from anywhere, so I
22:11think we've got to look at this and go, it's at home against Russian who are not starting
22:14the season so well, and I'm going to go with Moran win.
22:18What's your score prediction?
22:19It'll be tight again. I'd love to sit here and say it'll be a 5-0 or something like
22:23that, but we're not very good at scoring goals, we're not very good at keeping that
22:26well on net.
22:27You never know, you just never know.
22:29I'm not 100% sure what the team's looking like so far. I think we might have a couple
22:33missing, maybe a few injuries and knocks here and there, which does deter you, doesn't
22:37it?
22:38It makes a huge difference. Again, the same can be said for Russian. They've obviously
22:43got certain players, Al Maitland and the boys, but they're both in FC Allemagne, so
22:47more often than not they're not on the team, but you never know with FC Allemagne at home.
22:52Sometimes you might get them playing a few minutes off the bench or whatever, but either
22:56way, tough game. I think it's going to be close, I think it's going to be a lot closer
23:02than people think.
23:03But you're going to break my heart.
23:04Well, I am going to break your heart, so I'm sorry. I think Russian 2-1.
23:07Fair enough. See, that would be a bit better than the 8-1 we had last weekend, but I don't
23:11think we'd take it. We need points, don't we? Maybe a point would be a good point. Get
23:17the season rolling.
23:18That's the thing, just a bit of momentum, a bit of confidence back in the team.
23:21I'll be watching this, I'll have you doing a report on it, and I won't be doing one if
23:23you lose.
23:24You can do a pasty wash.
23:26I'm thinking we might have some food offers. I'm also running the canteen at heart.
23:32Good, so we want a thorough assessment of the group.
23:35Well, I'm hoping we'll have some food. I'm not 100% sure we will, but we'll definitely
23:38have the usual teas and coffees. Maybe the cheapest amongst football, tell me if I'm
23:41wrong, but a pound of tea I think is a value deal.
23:44That's decent.
23:45You must know, you've been around the club.
23:46I have been around the club, yeah.
23:48Where's the good tea, coffee?
23:51I think most clubs do a good cup of tea, to be honest. I wouldn't like to single any of
23:55them out in particular. I think you get ones where you get proper mugger tea at a lot of
24:00places, and you get others which will have a vat of tea, and they tend to be a little
24:05bit cheaper. They're always good, though, as well.
24:08A word on the food front, though. I went to Peel last week, and their pasties are usually
24:12amazing, but they didn't have any.
24:14They ran out.
24:15Well, they ran out. It just shows you how slow I was getting them.
24:17They should have known that you were coming. You could have had four or five.
24:19I'm at the stake of it. I do every day, mate.
24:22Peel, I've got to say, you're not a big fan of the pool, as you well know.
24:25I've never made that clear, mate.
24:27But the pasty is too fair.
24:30I suppose, then, we'll go with Peel for the next one.
24:33They're on the road this week, so they're visiting the Niverston Stadium.
24:36They're playing Ancon.
24:37Ancon, wow. It's been an interesting start, then.
24:40Have they only played two games, I think, for them?
24:42Two games, so they're in 12th. They've got no points.
24:46But, again, they've had a tough start.
24:48If you'd have said to them they're playing, I think they had air at the start.
24:51And you know what? The 2-1 loss to air, that would give you confidence, even though you've
24:55lost massively.
24:56No-one would have expected them to even come close to that.
24:58But then it's air being air and scraping by, doing the old Jordies style.
25:02Yeah, exactly. You couldn't set it bare.
25:05Finding a way to win, isn't it?
25:06Yeah.
25:07I found a way to Ancon for that result.
25:08That was great.
25:09So, obviously, last week, though, Ancon lost to St George's.
25:12They were 1-0 up in that game, I believe.
25:14And they had plenty of chances, according to Dean.
25:17Did the report from up front, 40?
25:18Yeah.
25:19They had lots of chances.
25:21They've just got to take them all.
25:22And Jordies hit back, and that's a big three points for Jordies.
25:25I think they'll be disappointed not to get something there, though.
25:27I mean, if you sign half of another club, it should be a bit stronger than it is.
25:31They've knocked on Douglas Royal's doors and taken everyone, apart from the tea lady.
25:35I think that's what they've left here.
25:37So, Ancon will be, to make that many signings, and some good ones in there as well.
25:41I know Royal's had some very handy players.
25:43They've kept them up year after year.
25:45I mean, Royal's, I think last year maybe should be the year.
25:48And they almost got dragged into a relegation fight towards the end of last year.
25:51So, Ancon have made a lot of signings, but this one, I think, will be too much of an appeal.
25:56We've got to talk about Thomas Brown.
25:58He's in some form, hasn't he?
25:59I mean, he won the Young Football Writers of the Year.
26:02And after it, I said to him, can you win it again this year?
26:05And he can, because he's 20 and he's still in 21.
26:07So, he's got a lot of years.
26:08If I was a betting man.
26:10I have to be honest.
26:11I mean, he's already, like, I haven't seen the player standing so far.
26:15And we're only three weeks into the season.
26:17He's got to be already.
26:18I mean, he's probably in contention for Player of the Month.
26:21I mean, he had a hat trick against Laxey last week.
26:23And he scored in the previous two games as well.
26:26He is on fire.
26:27And the variety of goals that he scored last week against Laxey.
26:31One, he held out.
26:33He showed good strength to hold off a defender and fired it left foot past the keeper.
26:37And even his hat trick goal, well, his hat trick goal was a tapper.
26:41But his second goal, he fired it in from 25 yards out, right foot, in off the post.
26:46So, he's got a variety.
26:47He can score many different types of goals.
26:49Yeah, and that's huge in an attacker, isn't it?
26:51And as well, the players with him up there.
26:53I mean, Rhys Oakes, Taylor Andrews.
26:56Yeah, both had really good games last week.
26:58Yeah, so, I mean, I think I mentioned it to you guys previously.
27:02To lose Lee Gale, a 34-goal striker, and have that front three still there.
27:07It's like, it's a joke.
27:08It's an embarrassment for Richard, isn't it?
27:10It is.
27:11It's like, who loses that attack and they're still firing goals?
27:13And I mean, scoring six past Laxey.
27:15A good defence.
27:16And Matty Ogden has just gone there to make a stronger back four as well.
27:19Yeah, he played well as well.
27:20I think it is an embarrassment for Richard.
27:23I think one of the most pleasing things, from a Peel point of view,
27:26I could be wrong, but for them, it's probably seen Rhys Oakes complete 90 minutes.
27:29Yeah.
27:30He's obviously had a lot of injury problems, particularly looking sharp.
27:32He played really well last weekend.
27:34And some players, there was talk of him going back to St John's.
27:37I did see that on the up front foot.
27:38He's really there when it starts.
27:39The Western Derby move.
27:40Yeah, yeah, because he used to be there, didn't he?
27:41He did.
27:42So, now, but firing with Peel, and I think that attack.
27:45You know what?
27:46That team in general, Peel.
27:48I think people kind of maybe wrote him off a little bit.
27:50Losing Gaylor.
27:51Luke Docherty not playing this season as well at the back.
27:53So, I think people may have wrote Peel off.
27:55I think they're still the front runners.
27:57Three wins from three.
27:58You can't knock them.
27:59Yeah, we'll see.
28:00So, Ogden, Peel.
28:01I mean, I think Ogden, good start.
28:04They've made a lot of good signs.
28:05A promising start to the season.
28:08Performance wise, maybe not result wise.
28:10Yeah.
28:11I think this will be a similar case.
28:12I think they'll probably play well, but I would fancy Peel to get the three points.
28:15Yeah.
28:16I've just realised, I can't really ever predict the favourites.
28:18There's no shock.
28:19So, I need to think of a shock this week.
28:20Maybe the Maran mushroom one is a shock, actually.
28:22Yeah, that is a shock.
28:23Yeah, but no, I'm not going to give a shock on this one.
28:25I think Peel will…
28:28I don't think it'll be comfortable.
28:29It'll be a bit like the Aire one, where they have to work their way past Duncan.
28:32I think Ogden could be resilient, but no, I think Peel will take the three points from an invisible stadium.
28:38Get it right.
28:39Hoverstopper Racing.
28:40Yeah.
28:41Well, I'll tell you what, though.
28:42We'll go from Hoverstopper Racing to the Hover the Champions.
28:44We'll go up to Andreas.
28:45Yeah.
28:46So, Aire United are playing St. George's.
28:47This is like the present versus the past.
28:51Yeah, it is.
28:52Not saying a bad way to Georgie's.
28:54Honestly, them boys still playing is incredible.
28:56And they've got some youngsters come back from the union.
28:57I think Lewis Brydson, a couple of others come back.
29:00Former podcast favourite.
29:01Yeah.
29:02I think a very good player, Lewis.
29:04I think you've just hit the nail on the head.
29:06It is a lot of experience in that squad, but also a lot of youth going through, a lot of good, talented players.
29:12And it's just about getting that balance right.
29:14Week in, week out.
29:15We've got to give a mention to Ash Higginbotham.
29:17Yeah.
29:18Last week.
29:19Fumbling around.
29:20Fumbling around.
29:21Yeah, legend.
29:22Went on to the worst things.
29:23Who are you to say that?
29:24But yeah, he got two goals last week in their 3-1 win over Anken.
29:27So, that's a major plus because I think one of the questions was where were the goals going to come from for the buddies.
29:32And if he can find the back of the net.
29:34He was playing at the back last season, though.
29:35So, he must be playing further up, surely.
29:37Or is he just scoring for events?
29:38I'm sure I've seen him play in every single position.
29:40Yeah, I mean, he's one of them players, I think, that managers must love.
29:43Because anyone who picks up a knock, you just chuck Higgy there.
29:45I've not seen him in goal, though.
29:47Let's make it happen.
29:48Come on, Johnny Myers.
29:49Pop a goal.
29:50So, can you see Jordies getting anything here?
29:53I know we don't even need to speak about how quality they are.
29:56I think they're quietly going about their business.
29:58I think you said that earlier.
29:59They've kind of begun flying under the radar.
30:01Yeah, and I think you obviously spoke to Hurty, the football writer.
30:04I don't think we've got a full-strength team just yet.
30:06I mean, they've got a lot of players available, but they've also got a few big ones, including Hurt himself.
30:11Yeah, yeah.
30:13How old is Nick Hurt?
30:15I don't know whether Nick might be saying it.
30:18I'm going to say he's mid-40s.
30:20And the fact that he can come in, step into that team of players who have already got quality and still play at this age and still be classed.
30:28I mean, I think he won Player of the Month last year at one point.
30:31He did.
30:32Look through that spine of that team.
30:34I mean, you've got a quality goalkeeper, their defenders.
30:37We've got Hurty, as you mentioned there, but Jamie Callister and people like that.
30:40Jamie's a quality player.
30:42And when you've got Sean Kelly, you've got Danny Oram, you've got Johnny Shields, Harry Best.
30:47You've got any position.
30:49They're so well-drilled, aren't they, as well?
30:51The players know exactly what they're doing.
30:52They're no messing about.
30:53And I think I can only see an air win at home here.
30:55I think Jordies might make a hole from again, but I still can see maybe three, four, one air.
31:00I think Jordies might pick up a goal as well.
31:02Yeah, do you know what?
31:03It's hard to disagree with you.
31:04I think it might be similar to the air open game last week.
31:06I think Jordies will give them a right throw for the money.
31:09They'll be fired up for it.
31:10They're no pushovers, Jordies, are they?
31:11As you know, even though they're not the Jordies of old, they're still a hard team to come up against, aren't they?
31:16Well, you can't really buy that experience, can you?
31:18A lot of those players have been there and done that.
31:20I like Manx football.
31:21Legends, but still playing.
31:22And I always hate calling people legends when they're still playing.
31:26It's a bit like a player playing in the Premier League.
31:28You know when Mark Noble was at the end of his career?
31:30And he is obviously a legend, yeah.
31:31But people were calling him a legend while he was playing.
31:33I hate that.
31:34I think you've got to retire or move on to be deemed as a legend.
31:37Yeah, no, I agree with you on that.
31:40It could all go dramatically wrong at the end of his career.
31:46But we can't look past the word legend for some of those players.
31:49Some of the best footballers, the best footballers seen.
31:52And they're still kicking a ball out on a Saturday for their club.
31:55Well, do you know what?
31:56It goes beyond just kicking the ball.
31:57It's everything they do for the club behind the scenes.
31:59Which has been key for them because it lost a lot of personnel behind the scenes the last few years.
32:04And I think to keep the football going, you know yourself.
32:07You're a club man from around.
32:09The amount of effort it takes behind the scenes to get everything taken care of.
32:12There's certain players and people at clubs that probably just turn up, get their kit and leave.
32:16And they don't see all the graft and hard work that goes on behind the scenes.
32:18The committee meetings.
32:19The endless time you've got to sit there and talk about really rubbish.
32:25It is frustrating that people maybe just take that for granted.
32:29But Jordi's one thing I will say is that let's just hope that they can...
32:32I think they've got a committee this year.
32:34So there should be no concerns about not filling the side.
32:36Last year, obviously, I think I got wound up more than anyone about Jordi's and the frustration with that.
32:41Yeah, I mean, Jordi Myers was having a say on that, I think.
32:44I'd love to get him in.
32:45I think Dean's had one, hasn't he?
32:47Or is he going to have one?
32:48I think so, yeah.
32:49Jordi's a class act, so he'll be looking to get in.
32:52But hopefully, Jordi's will have no issues this season.
32:55But I do think it'll be an only air win.
32:58Yeah, I know.
32:59I think air will win, but tough game.
33:01We'll go a few miles down the road then.
33:03We'll go Ramsey.
33:04Ramsey versus Union Mills, which has got...
33:07Post on the back.
33:08Yeah, exactly.
33:09It's got a bit more riding on it than we thought that we could go.
33:12Yeah, so obviously, well, Ramsey lost 3-0 at the Battle of Fletcher to Corinthians.
33:18Yeah.
33:19And as we said, Union Mills, that defeat to St John's, that's probably a tough one for them to take.
33:24Because they've got such a good squad there.
33:26They do.
33:27They do.
33:28This is a tough one to call, because I would have had Ramsey winning last week, and I would have had Mills winning last week.
33:33And now they've not.
33:34Both will be desperate to make it right.
33:37And they're coming up against each other.
33:39The only reason I'm going to go for a Ramsey win is just a home advantage.
33:42And I think that...
33:43I was speaking to someone the other day, and they were naming clubs that they think home advantage applies.
33:48And Ramsey, I think, is one of them.
33:51I mean, Ramsey, it just feels like you're...
33:55When you're getting beat by Ramsey, there's something about it that you feel...
33:59Well, do you think the stand is part of that?
34:02It's obviously a big stand, isn't it?
34:04That's huge, isn't it?
34:06You've kind of got it towering over you a little bit.
34:08Do you think it's like a psychological...
34:09It could be that, because Peel's the same.
34:11I know Peel's is a lot smaller, but Peel can actually fill theirs.
34:13Ramsey, they do well to fill theirs.
34:15Ramsey have got a great following, but they do well to cram it in.
34:18They're actually doing up their clubhouse.
34:20I'm hoping to go down and see it.
34:22That would be a good little podcast special.
34:24I think Liam's going to arrange that for me.
34:25Take the pod on the road, then.
34:26Yeah, exactly.
34:27So they're doing up their clubhouse.
34:28And again, Ramsey have got people behind the scenes that are absolute Ramsey diehards.
34:32Oh, yeah, yeah.
34:33And they do all the work.
34:34And it's a lot of the players as well.
34:35I know Pickles and that are involved in that.
34:37Yeah, well, I think...
34:38And this was something that was mentioned on our ill-fated recording of this podcast,
34:42but the groundsmen.
34:44It would be good to do a podcast with some groundsmen.
34:46A groundsman episode.
34:47Andy Cain on the pod.
34:48Yeah, yeah, yeah.
34:49Something like that.
34:51I think it was Jamie O'Neill when he was groundsman there.
34:54He won an award there a few years ago.
34:56So they know what they're doing up there.
34:58And it's a great venue.
34:59This will be a tough one to call.
35:01They're going to go Ramsey.
35:02Tight.
35:03It'll be tight.
35:04Because Mills are still...
35:05I know they lost last week.
35:08But they've still got such a good squad.
35:11It'll be interesting to see where the booth is in...
35:13Well, the booth is in the SLM squad now.
35:15So...
35:16But it's at home.
35:17So, again...
35:18If you don't have a booth in the Mills squad,
35:20it's still...
35:21The attack is still...
35:22It's ridiculous.
35:23They sound like Don and Cammy Bretton.
35:24That's a great sign, you know.
35:25Tyler Hughes, who also played for FC Allemagne.
35:30Jordan Crawley hasn't played yet, as far as I'm aware.
35:33Wow.
35:34I want to see that team.
35:35It's just...
35:36Jack Murray.
35:37Kyle Urine as well.
35:38Kyle Urine, who scored for the Combie last week.
35:40Yeah, so he should be on the first team.
35:42I think Mills will bring a good squad.
35:44I think Ramsey will...
35:46I think Ramsey will make last week right and win,
35:48and I'm going to go with a 2-0 win for Ramsey.
35:50Right.
35:51That'll be a clean sheet at home for them.
35:52I'm going to...
35:53Certainly, I did have a memorial offence.
35:54I'm going to go for a Desmond 2-2.
35:56You got one right last week.
35:57I did.
35:58I think it was the Russian Marys game.
36:00To be fair, it's a scat gun approach.
36:01Yeah, yeah.
36:02I just...
36:03You'll get one right in here.
36:04Exactly.
36:05It's a good return for me, though.
36:06Where are we off to next, Dave?
36:07Right, well, last game in the Premier League
36:09is at Glen Road, down the East Coast.
36:11It's Laxey versus Corinthians.
36:13This is an interesting one,
36:14because you were at Laxey Peel last week,
36:16and I think Laxey...
36:17The scoreline doesn't represent that.
36:19I think you will know more than anyone.
36:20You were there reporting on it.
36:22The scoreline doesn't represent...
36:24I think me and Andy in the episode that didn't go out
36:26that we recorded that we just spoke,
36:28Andy was arguing that 6-2 is still a comfortable win.
36:30I said, it doesn't matter,
36:31because if that ball that we don't know
36:33whether there's a line or not at 3-2,
36:35that goes in to make it 3-0,
36:36Laxey have all the...
36:37All the momentum.
36:38All the momentum.
36:39You could have gone on to win it.
36:40Yeah, absolutely.
36:41To put it into context,
36:42Peel went 2-0 up,
36:43but then Laxey got it back to 2-2 all.
36:45But lots of chances for both sides.
36:47Unfortunately for Laxey,
36:49Peel scored straight away again
36:51to make it 3-2.
36:53Literally seconds after the restart.
36:54Killed the momentum a little bit.
36:56But then in the 80th minute,
36:57Laxey...
36:58I mean, you can have a look at this clip.
37:00You've analysed the highlights, haven't you?
37:01Yeah, on Peel's YouTube channel.
37:03Check it out.
37:04It's a terrible angle to judge, though.
37:06Yeah, it's a difficult one.
37:08So, basically, a good move down the left.
37:11Jack Keelan, talented youngster off the bench.
37:13He does well.
37:14Beats the keeper to the ball
37:15and basically crosses it across goal.
37:18Whether it's a cross or a shot, I don't know.
37:20But it's going wide.
37:21Eric Hill runs in.
37:23And the only problem with him is
37:25he doesn't get the right power on it.
37:26Yeah, it's a bit of a soft hit, isn't it?
37:28Yeah, but it's one of those things.
37:30He's under pressure from a defender,
37:31so it's one of those.
37:32But you can't blame the ref, can you?
37:34You have no line nose.
37:35And also, he can't give a goal
37:37if he doesn't see a goal.
37:38Well, this is it, yeah.
37:39So, he has a shot.
37:40Aaron Custain somehow gets back
37:42and clears it off the line.
37:43And Laxley are adamant it's crossed the line.
37:45Shrew Morris is the ref.
37:47He's had a great game,
37:48but he doesn't have linesmen.
37:49And he can't really give it.
37:50I know.
37:51It's like the other way around.
37:52It's like, it's always harder
37:55to give a goal if you don't know it's a goal.
37:56And you've just got to go safe and say it wasn't.
37:58And if he's not 100% certain,
38:00he's not 100% certain.
38:01But Laxley will be furious about that.
38:02Yeah.
38:03And you said it did make it.
38:05The heads went down a bit.
38:06Yeah, I mean, at that point, as you say,
38:08it's 3-0 in the last 10 minutes.
38:10And the momentum's completely with them at that point.
38:12But the opposite is true.
38:14Their heads dropped
38:16and then Peel scored three times
38:17in the last five minutes.
38:18So, I mean, that's that one.
38:20Makes it look...
38:21Yeah.
38:22People must have seen that game with Peel.
38:23Yeah.
38:24But actually, in reality,
38:25that wasn't the way it went.
38:26Yeah, I mean,
38:27it could have gone either way.
38:28It really could have.
38:29So, a lot of positives there for Laxley.
38:30They were missing Tom Cowan.
38:32Yeah, of course.
38:33They missed their captain last weekend,
38:35but he's back this weekend.
38:36He is back this weekend, yeah.
38:37He's here.
38:38But I think it could be
38:39a similar sort of game this weekend.
38:41I don't know if it's a free score
38:42on Corinthians' side.
38:43I can't believe, like,
38:44Corinthians, what's going on?
38:46I put them to go down
38:48and they've won 3-0.
38:50And they look strong.
38:52Well, don't you know that
38:53Ben Paltrow is using
38:54your words of wisdom
38:56as his team talk,
38:57his motivational talk,
38:58every single week, mate.
38:59That would be hilarious, by the way,
39:01if we did.
39:02Imagine you put up, like...
39:03I think your face is on a dartboard
39:04in a few clubs, to be fair, mate.
39:06Well, I hope so as well.
39:08But that would be...
39:09I don't know.
39:10Corinthians, I just can't...
39:11I don't know where it came from.
39:12And in fairness,
39:13I only put them to go down...
39:14I thought they were sleepwalking to it,
39:15because last year,
39:16they weren't that strong.
39:17Obviously, they've got players
39:18in FCL now,
39:19but they're quite a young team.
39:20I thought they were walking
39:21towards relegation.
39:22Obviously, they proved me wrong.
39:24I mean, if we're saying 15's the market,
39:27I put them to go down.
39:28They're well on their way.
39:29And also, I think part of me
39:31put them down, two down,
39:32because I couldn't really think
39:33of many other clubs
39:34with the morale I could put down,
39:35and I'm not going to ever do that.
39:36So...
39:37Well, look, mate,
39:38we all get our predictions wrong.
39:39And they're flying.
39:40And fair play.
39:41That young squad,
39:42we've got Jeremy Dalton.
39:43Jamar, yeah.
39:44Yeah, they're so strong.
39:45They've got Baron Collie.
39:46They've got Trak Corridan goal.
39:47They've always got a good youth
39:49coming through, don't they?
39:50They have.
39:51Supplemented with the experienced heads,
39:52like your Stewie Smith,
39:53your Darren Kane,
39:54the Ridings boys.
39:55You know, it's a good squad.
39:57Yeah, of course.
39:58So, I don't know.
39:59This will be tough to call.
40:01I still feel like Corinthians
40:03are going to keep going.
40:05I'm going to smile when I say this
40:06because it's Laxey
40:07and it's a few of the boys I know.
40:09I'm going to go with the Corinthians win.
40:11Do you know what, Tom?
40:12I owe you a pint
40:13because you managed not to say
40:14Cam Avery or Adam Meele in there.
40:15You did really well.
40:16Well, now I'm on that topic.
40:17Should we get back to that?
40:18They stopped you in the Crosby on Saturday,
40:20to be fair to them.
40:21What did they say about the match?
40:22They...
40:23To be fair,
40:24I think I spoke to Cam
40:25more about my Combi match
40:26than he told me about his debut match.
40:28Well, we'll get to the Combi match later, yeah.
40:30And that's fair enough
40:31because it was highlighted in your career.
40:34It's not hard to do that, is it?
40:35No.
40:36So, tough one call.
40:37I think...
40:38Close.
40:39I know I say tough one call
40:40when I get from a single match
40:41because of my broken record.
40:42But...
40:43Who are you going to go?
40:45Do you know what?
40:46I'm going to sit on the fence again.
40:47I'm going to go for a draw
40:48but I'm going to go for all.
40:49I'm going to go for all
40:50because it's ridiculous.
40:51Wow, I hope it is a draw.
40:52That would be a hell of a game.
40:53And they're two good teams, aren't they?
40:54So we'll see how that goes.
40:55Yeah.
40:56Right, so we've moved to the
40:57Arden and Kevin Drogan Division 2.
40:58We will.
40:59Best league in Europe, of course.
41:01I suppose if we start black and blue,
41:02we've got all boys versus Malou.
41:04I think that's probably
41:05the game of the day, maybe.
41:06Yeah.
41:07End of two.
41:08Yeah, it's tricky this season
41:10because there's fewer teams in this.
41:13We're only getting
41:14four or five games each week.
41:15Yeah.
41:16And I guess,
41:17we'll go through it in a sec,
41:18but I think the momentum
41:19is a big...
41:20It has a big impact.
41:21We previously spoke about this.
41:22I think Andy asked a question
41:23about whether or not
41:24you'd rather keep playing every week
41:26or you almost want
41:28these little Saturdays off
41:29maybe to see the family
41:30and have the time off.
41:31But I think it's different
41:32when you're winning and you're losing.
41:33I think sometimes when you're losing,
41:35you're kind of like,
41:36no, I can have a week off here, maybe.
41:38And then you also want to put it late.
41:39Yeah, I was going to say,
41:40are you chomping at the bit
41:41to try and get back out there?
41:42Yeah, exactly.
41:43But then if you're winning,
41:44you don't want to disrupt the flow
41:45if you're constantly picking up points.
41:46You don't want a Saturday off.
41:47All you want to do is win, win, win.
41:49Well, we look at initially,
41:50Colby played on the opening day and won.
41:52Great result for them.
41:54Haven't played since.
41:55You know, and for them,
41:56I don't know, maybe they're...
41:59That comes down to the burning question of,
42:01should teams be allowed
42:02to only field a combi, doesn't it?
42:04And that opens a whole camp of worms
42:06that we can go to on a different podcast.
42:07Yeah, if anyone's got a particular view,
42:08send them in to us.
42:09We'll talk about it on a future podcast.
42:11Because I'm not sure it should.
42:12The league is...
42:14The second division and the first division
42:16are the two most important things.
42:17And I think if you can name a combi,
42:19possibly you should really be naming that
42:20as a first team,
42:21no matter how poor it is.
42:23But then I think the FA
42:24maybe made a run for their own back
42:25by doing it at the start.
42:27They originally allowed Bradham to do it, maybe.
42:29Yeah, I think it's a tricky one, isn't it?
42:32Because you obviously want to keep
42:35the integrity of the league intact.
42:37And looking on to that,
42:38because obviously women's football
42:39are struggling with this, this year.
42:41And you want to keep the integrity
42:43of the league intact.
42:44But also, you want to make it fun
42:46for the players.
42:47And do you really want to be turned up
42:49every week and getting hammered?
42:50I mean, it's difficult, isn't it?
42:51It is.
42:52And you don't want to stuff a knee up.
42:53Daft could have done quite well in there.
42:55Daft could have done quite well
42:57Yeah, so I think they finished fourth.
42:59Yeah, so maybe that team wouldn't be that bad.
43:01Anyway, that's a topic for another day.
43:04We always digress.
43:05We do.
43:06Old Boys Malou, though.
43:07Yeah, tough game to call this, huh?
43:08It is.
43:09I think we described it as meaty
43:10in the office.
43:11Feisty as well.
43:12Feisty, yeah.
43:13Old Boys could start the campaign.
43:15They sit in second.
43:16They've had two wins in their two games.
43:18I think we all had them there
43:20or thereabout at the top.
43:21Yeah.
43:22I think they're one of the strongest
43:23of two teams this year.
43:25You know what?
43:26I think it looks like another
43:28Old Boys win here in Malou.
43:29I can't see them picking up anything.
43:31They're struggling with Malou.
43:34Word to Malou, they were on the receiving end
43:37of a true men's football scoreline last week.
43:39They lost 6-5 to Governors.
43:41That sounds like a thriller game.
43:42I mean, you score five goals at home.
43:43You're thinking, I'm going to win
43:44these other three points in the bag.
43:46Somehow they didn't.
43:47Most of the two scoreline ever.
43:49So they've got some goal scorers in the squad.
43:51That's a good plus for them.
43:53I'm with you on this one.
43:54I think Old Boys just got a bit more
43:56about them than Malou.
43:57They're going to be too strong.
43:58I think they'll keep them in and going.
43:59Where next, Dave?
44:00Should we go Pulley versus Michael?
44:03See, this one I can see being a tough
44:05old day for Pulley.
44:06But they have brought in some
44:07James McGuins back.
44:08Art legend.
44:09Yeah, yeah.
44:10Art pasty legend.
44:11Exactly.
44:12Pulley legend.
44:13So, I don't know.
44:14Pulley will be strong,
44:15but Michael, free flow now.
44:16What have they got underway?
44:17What was their score last week?
44:18Oh, wow.
44:19Yeah, we talked about back-to-football scores.
44:2013-3 against Douglaston Nation.
44:21And the big thing there,
44:22I think Liam Kane's got his first goals.
44:23The campaign.
44:24Yeah.
44:25I think we all had him as Combie.
44:26Sorry, not Combie.
44:27Silver boot winner.
44:28Yeah.
44:29Four goals.
44:30Not bad, is it?
44:31It's not bad.
44:32The biggest probably surprise was
44:33he hadn't scored earlier.
44:34Yeah, absolutely.
44:35I mean, he had an amazing season last year.
44:37But he just gets four just to make it
44:38catch up.
44:39Exactly.
44:40And that's what he can do.
44:41Exactly.
44:42And I reckon he's sat there
44:43somewhere today in his office
44:44maybe thinking,
44:45I reckon I can bag a few
44:46against Pulley.
44:47He probably is.
44:48Away from Pulley, though,
44:49I mean, they lost 4-0 to Braddon
44:50last week.
44:51I'm okay on the face of it
44:52but not a good result.
44:53No, but Braddon are strong.
44:54Braddon are a very strong side
44:55and they will do that for lots.
44:56As they've already proven.
44:57I mean, they are
44:58the current pace setters.
44:59Yeah.
45:00They are, what,
45:01they've won 3-3
45:02and their goal difference
45:03is plus 18.
45:04Yeah, so they're going to...
45:05It shows you the amount of
45:06goals they're already scoring.
45:07Yeah, absolutely.
45:08So I think this will
45:09probably only go one way,
45:10but I think Pulley might be able
45:11to keep it down.
45:12I mean, 4-0's not too bad.
45:13You can see four
45:14at a strong Braddon side
45:15that have only bolstered
45:16this year, it sounds like.
45:17Yeah.
45:18So I'd go with a
45:19Michael Wynne,
45:21but maybe 4-5, really.
45:22I think Pulley will score.
45:24I think they'll get
45:25a couple of goals in this,
45:26but yeah, I'm going to...
45:27In Michael Wynne,
45:28I'm going to go 6-2.
45:29Yeah, that's a better
45:30of a difference
45:31in scoring as well.
45:32Where next?
45:33We'll go Douglas Royal
45:34versus Braddon.
45:35Now, this is the game
45:36that Dean from Upfront Footy
45:37is going to cover
45:38and it interests them
45:39more than this
45:40because obviously
45:41a lot's been said
45:42about Royal, hasn't it?
45:43Well, Royal,
45:44they've been raided,
45:45haven't they?
45:46Let's say that.
45:47Every single player
45:48in the first team,
45:49has left.
45:50And that's hard
45:51to deal with.
45:52Fair play,
45:53can I just say,
45:54fair play for getting
45:55the first team
45:56in a combio.
45:57I think that's one
45:58of the biggest things.
45:59It doesn't matter.
46:00All these problems
46:01with football clubs
46:02and Royals have
46:03come pulled together
46:04and they've got two teams
46:05and I think you've
46:06got to applaud them
46:07for that.
46:08Against the Braddons,
46:09Braddon though,
46:10this will be tough
46:11I think for them.
46:12Yeah, I think it will.
46:13I think it's one of those
46:14where you know
46:15you're going to
46:16get a bit of a juggernaut
46:17in Braddon.
46:18They've already got
46:19that aura about them
46:20this season
46:21and they,
46:22okay they went down
46:23last season,
46:24we talked about it a lot,
46:25they went down
46:26playing good football
46:27last year
46:28and they seem to have
46:29just carried that on.
46:30They've got a good
46:31on-out team
46:32on and off the pitch.
46:33And I think they have
46:34brought in,
46:35who's the tackler
46:36that used to be
46:37at Geordie's for?
46:38Terry McGowan.
46:39Terry McGowan.
46:40He scored again
46:41last week.
46:42He sounds like
46:43he's scored a few goals
46:44and they seem to have
46:45got him,
46:46he's back fit,
46:47he's peeled,
46:48he's been around the block,
46:49he's a,
46:50and not just as a bus driver
46:51by the way,
46:52he is a bus driver.
46:53So I'd go with a,
46:54I'd go with a
46:55Braddon win,
46:56maybe a couple of
46:57Terry McGowan goals,
46:58I'm thinking maybe
46:59it could be a long
47:00old day for us,
47:01I can maybe see a steam
47:02rolling scoreline here,
47:03maybe eight or nine.
47:04Oof, big shout,
47:05big shout there.
47:06Braddon are scoring
47:07aren't they?
47:08Well,
47:09I'm fearful of them.
47:10Well, we'll talk next,
47:11the last game in
47:12Arden-Kevin-Drummond
47:13Division 2
47:14is between two teams
47:15who conceded a lot
47:16against Castletown.
47:17Castletown,
47:18what is going on?
47:19I know,
47:20so we mentioned D&D
47:21shipping 13,
47:22Castletown also
47:23shipping seven
47:24against UD at home.
47:25So,
47:26it's a tough start.
47:27I think Castletown
47:28has lost a few as well
47:29to be fair,
47:30I know that Danny
47:31Lane and that,
47:32but I think there has
47:33been some other
47:34departures,
47:35they've still got a
47:36fair few from last year
47:37but they're a bit
47:38all over the place
47:39and with Edmonton
47:40playing this weekend
47:41they won't have
47:42their bulky Braddon
47:43Kimberley,
47:44I think he goes to
47:45and they generally
47:46are,
47:47because they somehow
47:48always put together
47:49a big performance
47:50every now and then
47:51and new manager in
47:52charge,
47:53good opportunity for him
47:54here to get some
47:55points on the board
47:56so,
47:57yeah,
47:58I think a close game
47:59I'm going to go 3-2
48:00to D&D.
48:01Matheson will be
48:02a happy man here
48:03he will,
48:04he's paid me to say
48:05that.
48:06I'm going to go
48:07the D&D win as well,
48:08I think Castletown
48:09are a bit all over the
48:10place and I think
48:11it's always not nice
48:12to see a big club,
48:13huge club Castletown
48:14but,
48:15I can see D&D
48:16taking all three
48:17points,
48:18they're at home
48:19aren't they as well
48:20D&D?
48:21Yeah,
48:22so,
48:23I can maybe
48:24that advantage,
48:25is this Springfield
48:26Road now?
48:27Are they on
48:28Grosvenor?
48:29Well,
48:30between the two,
48:31Matheson will correct
48:32us on this,
48:33Springfield Road,
48:34Grosvenor Road,
48:35you know,
48:36who knows.
48:37Just another example
48:38of us not being
48:39experts.
48:40Well,
48:41we never plan to be
48:42so it's fine,
48:43it's my favourite
48:44topic of conversation.
48:45Well,
48:46you have to say
48:47though,
48:48a good week for the
48:49Rams.
48:50Very good,
48:51very good and I
48:52think it's good to
48:53see Luke Booth
48:54scoring.
48:55Yeah,
48:56absolutely,
48:57come on to that
48:58one in a sec,
48:59so,
49:00basically they had
49:01a very good
49:02performance against
49:03Bury at the
49:04Bowl last weekend,
49:05it took a 95th
49:06minute equaliser
49:07from Bury
49:08to stop what
49:09otherwise would
49:10have been a
49:11memorable victory
49:12for Bury.
49:13Yeah,
49:14they were
49:15in great form,
49:16more than 2,000
49:17people in the
49:18Bowl,
49:19I mean that is
49:20fair play to them
49:21and then off the
49:22back of that
49:23they travelled
49:24all the way to
49:25Ramsbottom
49:26in midweek
49:27and as you
49:28mentioned Luke
49:29Booth,
49:30so,
49:31yeah,
49:32they won,
49:33they came from
49:34behind to beat
49:35Ramsbottom 2-1,
49:36Tom Career got
49:37the equaliser,
49:38so,
49:39second half
49:40equaliser and
49:41then the
49:42second half
49:43equaliser,
49:44so,
49:45yeah,
49:46we talk about
49:47Luke Booth,
49:48I've got the
49:49squad here now,
49:50so I'll read it
49:51out for anyone
49:52that wants it,
49:53but,
49:54Sam Baines,
49:55Booth,
49:56Ryan Burns,
49:57Tom Career,
49:58Jacob Crook,
49:59Ryan Gartland,
50:00Danny Gerrard,
50:01Tyler Hughes,
50:02Holly Jackson,
50:03Josh Koenig,
50:04Adam Killian,
50:05Alex Maitland,
50:06Ronan McDonald,
50:07Kyle Watson,
50:08Steve Litley and
50:09Ben Mosser,
50:10I think he's away
50:11travelling,
50:12and obviously
50:13Dean Pinkerton who
50:14missed last week's
50:15game with an injury,
50:16so he's obviously
50:17still sidelined,
50:18and Charlie Higgins
50:19and Kyle Cherry
50:20are both suspended,
50:21Jack McVay is also
50:22not...
50:23If they're suspended
50:24can they play for
50:25their local clubs?
50:26Good question,
50:27I...
50:28They better not be
50:29allowed.
50:30I wouldn't have
50:31thought so,
50:32but I could be wrong.
50:33I'd hate that.
50:34Adam Adebaye and
50:35Jamie Corlett are
50:36both also unavailable,
50:37whether that means
50:38they're playing for
50:39their local clubs.
50:40So, again,
50:41should that be allowed
50:42really?
50:43Flipping it out,
50:44let's have to
50:45top it for another day.
50:46Yeah, let's not
50:47fuck with that top
50:48because we know
50:49what will happen.
50:50Right, so,
50:51another big news
50:52this weekend,
50:53the women's football
50:54season starts.
50:55Yeah, it does,
50:56and it has to be said,
50:57I think Dean put it
50:58perfectly on his
50:59up front foot,
51:00it's almost silly
51:01to call it a league
51:02because it's a sad
51:03state of affairs really,
51:04only four teams this year,
51:05it's more of a
51:06round-robin tournament
51:07than it is a league,
51:08but I think they did
51:09say there might be
51:10a fifth team,
51:11I think Castletown
51:12are trying their best
51:13to get a team in,
51:14aren't they?
51:15Yeah, so,
51:16we had six teams
51:17last year,
51:18we've lost Douglas Royal
51:19unfortunately,
51:20who are one of the
51:21powerhouses in women's
51:22football this year.
51:23Oh, they made their
51:24women as well,
51:25didn't they?
51:26Who knows, mate,
51:27but, yeah,
51:28so, no WRL,
51:29and Castletown,
51:30as you say,
51:31but they posted
51:32on social media
51:33this week,
51:34they're still
51:35looking for players,
51:36so, who knows
51:37on Sunday as well.
51:38Yeah, so,
51:39two interesting games,
51:40I mean,
51:41Peel wants to watch,
51:42Corinthians obviously
51:43wants to watch,
51:44but, you never know,
51:45and then also
51:46to the Masters League
51:47this weekend as well,
51:48you've got the
51:49fixtures there, haven't you?
51:50Yeah,
51:51Providence Athletic
51:52versus Ayr
51:53at 2.10pm at the Bowl,
51:54and POV Corinthians
51:553.40pm at the Bowl,
51:56Colby v Laxey
51:572pm at Laxey.
51:58Masters League back,
51:59over 35s,
52:00we've been talking
52:01about that,
52:02Andy, have you
52:03ever fancied a run out?
52:04I mean, I can't run
52:05because I'm gonna be
52:06walking football
52:07is my limit,
52:08and even then,
52:09I struggle, but...
52:10Walking football,
52:11wow, that's...
52:12I know Andy's keen
52:13for the age limit
52:14to be brought up
52:15to 40,
52:16or even higher,
52:17because we're now
52:18in that age bracket,
52:19you see, mate,
52:20you've got a long
52:21way to go.
52:22I've got a long way
52:23to go,
52:24but I'd probably
52:25play like a Masters
52:26to be fair.
52:27Some of them
52:28are quite good,
52:29actually.
52:30What was the guy
52:31who himself scored?
52:32Chris Nehan.
52:33Oh, he scored 100 goals.
52:34Yeah, he scored
52:35100 goals.
52:36So, he sometimes
52:37played evening games
52:38at the ball as well.
52:39It did have a reputation
52:40as a bit of a
52:41bone-breaker league
52:42at one point,
52:43because honestly,
52:44you couldn't go a week
52:45without a broken leg
52:46or something.
52:47I think it's settled
52:48down a bit now,
52:49but I suppose
52:50that kind of shows you
52:51the transition
52:52from going from
52:53normal first team
52:54or combi football
52:55into a slower league,
52:56and I guess it's a bit
52:57of a transition,
52:58isn't it,
52:59but you probably
53:00get carried away.
53:01Imagine you...
53:02Yeah, exactly,
53:03imagine that.
53:04Bit of the week.
53:05I think everyone
53:06is excited to hear this.
53:07So, first of all,
53:08we'll go to
53:09Dave Reads
53:10the weather.
53:11That's not
53:12the only way round.
53:13We could do that.
53:14I like mixing it up.
53:15Andrew's not here
53:16to tell me.
53:17Speaking of mixing it up,
53:18it's a bit of a mixed bag
53:19over the next couple of days.
53:20Friday will be dry
53:21and bright early on
53:22before cloud and rain
53:23come in later on
53:24and overnight.
53:25Saturday is similar.
53:26It'll start dry
53:27but cloudy before
53:28the rain arrives later on.
53:29So, it'll be interesting
53:30to see how much rain
53:31we do get overnight.
53:32Fingers crossed
53:33that everyone
53:34immediately jumps
53:35to Villico Park.
53:36There's a Kombi there.
53:37Their first team
53:38should be on the way.
53:39Yeah, their first team
53:40are away.
53:41We're only close,
53:42so we'll see.
53:43Fingers crossed.
53:44I mean,
53:45we are recording this.
53:46It's blue skies out there.
53:47It's pretty nice.
53:48It's groovy.
53:49It can change pretty quickly.
53:50It can.
53:51It doesn't take long
53:52for Tom to get in shape.
53:53No, it's a huge one.
53:54It looks like one
53:55of the Royal Caribbean ones.
53:56I can't imagine it is
53:57because why the hell
53:58on earth would it come here?
53:59Well, you work for
54:00Armand, Tom.
54:01That's true, yeah.
54:02Weather could be
54:03not the best then,
54:04so they're hoping
54:05to get games on.
54:06Yeah, let's see.
54:07I think we'll still
54:08get most of them on,
54:09but there's a couple
54:10of them on right now.
54:11Even our pitch
54:12might be a bit
54:13touch and go.
54:14We've had a bit
54:15of drainage issues,
54:16so we'll see how it goes.
54:17You've been working
54:18there hard this week,
54:19haven't you,
54:20getting all sorts out?
54:21I say working hard.
54:22I've been watching it
54:23call it work,
54:24I must say.
54:25Now we'll go to
54:26another classic.
54:27I wouldn't say classic.
54:28Is it called
54:29Kombi Corner?
54:30Yeah.
54:32What we need is
54:33a petition from you guys
54:34to get someone else
54:35to read this, please.
54:36You don't like doing it, do you?
54:37I just don't like
54:38being the centre of attention
54:39for stuff.
54:40You're going to have
54:41to do it again, Dave.
54:42Kombi Corner, here we go.
54:43I think, while he's not here,
54:44we can force Adam Morton
54:45to do it from now on.
54:46Adam Morton, yeah.
54:47His absence means
54:48he's volunteered to do it.
54:49Or we just get random
54:50people in the street
54:51to do it.
54:52We just go to the camera
54:53and say,
54:54read our Kombi Corner.
54:55When you're doing a Vox Pop
54:56at the weekend.
54:57Yeah, yeah.
54:58I'm like,
54:59I'm old for that.
55:00You know, Kombi Corner
55:01is just for you.
55:02Right, so I've got
55:03on top of
55:04Canada Life Combination 1
55:05thanks to a
55:0611-2 victory
55:07over St George's
55:08at the Nevistar Stadium.
55:09Spearheaded by
55:10Hattrick, St George,
55:11Butler and Lewis Dawson.
55:12So the Urbans
55:13have moved ahead
55:14of St Mary's
55:15in goal difference
55:16with a game in hand
55:17after the Saints
55:18lost 3-2 at home
55:19to Russian,
55:20courtesy of
55:21Christos Lazidas Hattrick.
55:22There are now
55:23six teams locked together
55:24on six points
55:25alongside those top two
55:26with Ramsey thirds
55:27and St John's a fourth
55:28despite losing
55:29a good result
55:30for St John's that.
55:31Furthermore,
55:32sorry,
55:33Corinthians are now
55:34fifth,
55:35joined on six points
55:36by Russian,
55:37thanks to that winner
55:38for St Mary's.
55:39It was a close game
55:40at Glen Road,
55:41but Peel came out
55:42on top of the
55:43five-goal thriller
55:44with Laxey winning
55:453-2,
55:46thanks largely to
55:47a brace from Harry Pack.
55:48And the other game
55:49of Kombi won,
55:50so Moran claimed
55:51a 5-1 victory
55:52over Foxtail
55:53at the Memorial
55:54Playing Fields,
55:55but the win was
55:56overshadowed by
55:57Tom Kerfie's injury.
55:58And that's
55:59the end of the show.
56:00Thanks for watching.
