Transcript
00:00:00Hello and welcome to the second episode of the 2024-25 season.
00:00:05In this week's Mags Football Podcast, I'm Dave, catching up with Union Mills manager Ryan Kelly
00:00:10after the Millers' opening weekend win over St Mary's.
00:00:13We hear from our very own Clive Meyrie, Adam Morton, after the Battle of Station Fields.
00:00:18We also look ahead to this weekend's big games,
00:00:20plus there's the return of old favourites Combi Corner and Dave Reads the Weather.
00:00:24Right, guys, welcome. I'd say welcome.
00:00:31We're going to welcome everyone because we're in a slightly different podcast HQ this season.
00:00:37Dave, this is our third.
00:00:39Yeah, we've gone up in the world, I think.
00:00:41Quite literally two flights. We've gone from the basement, we're into the top floor now.
00:00:45I like it.
00:00:46I quite like it as well. It was a bit thrown together, the whole decor, but I like it.
00:00:51I think it's... I can get used to this.
00:00:52It's very roomy.
00:00:53It is. Plenty of scope to put some more kids up on the wall and any club memorabilia.
00:00:57And if you ever get bored of Dave and Horton, we can look out the window and we can see the sea.
00:01:00That's lovely.
00:01:01It is.
00:01:02It's very soothing. Adam, what do you think?
00:01:03It's perfect. Very spacious.
00:01:05The basement I quite liked because it was a bit dark, dingy and sort of screamed podcast.
00:01:10Yeah, keeping with the quality of our podcast.
00:01:12It can't be too nice.
00:01:14We've invested in better technology, we've invested in... well, we've got this new room.
00:01:19Things are, some would say, on the up, but I wouldn't go that far.
00:01:22No.
00:01:23Right, before we look ahead to Saturday's games, Dave, you spoke to Ryan Kelly after Saturday's...
00:01:29Union Mills win on Saturday over St Mary's.
00:01:32Yeah, he was in good form. I like his team.
00:01:34They got off to a flyer, opened the scoring within a minute and laid down a good marker for the season.
00:01:40So, as you'll hear now, he was happy with his side.
00:01:42So, by the magic of iMovie, we'll play that now.
00:01:48Well, Ryan, I mean, probably before the game started, you'd have told the team to go out and get into it straight away
00:01:54and have a fast start, but you couldn't have asked for better than that, scoring within a minute.
00:01:59No. So, past what I asked them to do anyway, but the boys have worked really hard over pre-season.
00:02:05We know we've got quick lads up top. We know we can start as quick as we want to start.
00:02:10It depends how switched on we are at the time.
00:02:12But, yeah, it's nice to get off to a nice little start.
00:02:15When you've got players like Luke Booth and Jack Murray, Tally Hughes, you're always going to score goals, aren't you?
00:02:20Oh, 100%. You've missed Dom out there as well. Brilliant.
00:02:25Yeah, there's goals. There's goals in abundance throughout the team, to be honest.
00:02:28You've got Matthew Milligan who sits in there, that little 10-year-old.
00:02:31Jordan Crawley wasn't here today. All of these boys will score a lot of goals as well throughout the season.
00:02:36So, goals are something we've got in abundance and I'm happy for that.
00:02:39And those guys will steal the headlines, but a big shout out to Mason Prince today.
00:02:43He pulled off a lot of saves, didn't he?
00:02:45Yes, he did, didn't he? Mason has been probably one of our standout players since I've taken over.
00:02:51I think, if I'm right in saying, I know this is last season, he's not conceded a goal in football continuously since April.
00:03:00Wow, that's incredible.
00:03:01Since April, he's not conceded a goal.
00:03:03And that then obviously gives him confidence, but it gives the rest of the team confidence as well, doesn't it?
00:03:07Yeah, well, it's something that we've worked on a lot. It's just being resilient.
00:03:10And I think that's shown today. A strong backbone in the team and a good, confident keeper.
00:03:16And it puts you in good stead for a season. So, yeah, I'm really happy with the way that the boys conducted themselves today.
00:03:23How has pre-season been? Preparations have all gone well?
00:03:26Pre-season? Up and down, isn't it? You know what it's like. We've got a lot of lads that are 18, etc.
00:03:32They've just found they can go on holiday, they disappear off, they're gone for two weeks, then they drop back in and they're out, they're in, they're out.
00:03:38But overall, pre-season has been really, really good. We've scored a lot of goals throughout our games that we've played.
00:03:44And again, the boys, just their willingness to learn, to adapt to situations and the work that they put in, you just can't credit them enough for it.
00:03:54So, you've had a really good start to the season there now. So, it lays down the marker.
00:03:58I mean, St Mary's are going to be a good start this season. So, what are the aims? What are the targets for this campaign?
00:04:03Well, to do the best that we can is our aim. I've quietly got my own reservations of where I want us to be.
00:04:12I definitely expect us to be up around the top four challenging for Railway Cup come Christmas time.
00:04:17I think the competition for places, we've got the club, we're missing Joe Quayle today who didn't play.
00:04:22We're missing Jordan Crawley, as I said, who didn't play. Again, probably two of our starting players in the midfield there.
00:04:28Abundance of quality in them two. A really good core, a lot of attacking players that we can dip in and out of.
00:04:36The combination team has got some really good attacking players. I think we're set up and we've got a really good structure at the minute.
00:04:43I think it's just standing us in good stead for a good few years.
00:04:47Yes, I think you've got a great set-up up here, haven't you, Gary Moore? Union Mills have always had a good youth conveyor belt.
00:04:54I think that's it, isn't it? You can always dip into the youth teams and bring the next generation of players through, can't you?
00:05:01Yes, I think maybe previously we haven't. As everyone's aware, we've probably lost a lot of audience throughout the years.
00:05:09I think there wasn't always a pathway or a willingness to go into the first team football.
00:05:16Whereas the boys are getting opportunities now and if they take their chances, their name's on the team sheet at the start of a game.
00:05:24Quality's got to be there. The boys do what they're asked in training and they put the work rate in.
00:05:30Everyone's on an even keel now in playing field and it's down to the boys that are in there to keep the shirts on their back, which is really good.
00:05:37We have a lot of competition, as I've said. That can only be healthy, can't it?
00:05:44It's really good competition within the group as well. It's not just that they're upset that they're not on the team or anything like that.
00:05:49They're pushing each other, which is the difference from years before.
00:05:53They're actually spurring each other on to get better and pushing each other's limits in training, which is great to see.
00:05:59So we can see Millers challenge for some silverware this season, then?
00:06:03Quietly, hopefully.
00:06:04Well, well done today. Great result and good luck for the rest of the season.
00:06:07Cheers, thank you.
00:06:09That's a very interesting interview that, Dave.
00:06:11It was. Yeah, they've got a wealth of talent there at the Millers.
00:06:15They already had a good start, but with the likes of Dominic Harry-Brennan signing and people like that, they could be dark horses this season.
00:06:22You heard there he's talking about the potential of getting into the Raleigh Cup again and stuff like that.
00:06:27So I guess we'll see, but they've certainly started well.
00:06:30I think that was one of my standout results of the weekend, but we'll talk more about that in a minute.
00:06:35Now, one of the other big stories this week, Adam, has been the Battle of Stationfield.
00:06:41I'm still traumatised.
00:06:42You were there in prime spot on the stand.
00:06:46The new stand, by the way.
00:06:47The new stand.
00:06:48Yeah, they've moved pitch to the front.
00:06:49The main pitch is the front bit now because it had problems with glass when it was first laid and stuff like that.
00:06:53So now it's proper, all set up.
00:06:55Have they got funding for the Adam Morton stand yet?
00:06:58It's in the works, Dave. It's in the works.
00:07:01Right, so talk us through what happened.
00:07:03You were there for a 6.15 kick-off.
00:07:05You were quite happy to be there because it was Castel and Colby.
00:07:08Always a big game.
00:07:09Southern Derby.
00:07:10Big game at the top of the Kevin and Ard Druggan Division 2.
00:07:15It's not right. It doesn't roll for Tom and Jason.
00:07:17What is it?
00:07:18Ard and Kevin.
00:07:19Oh, Ard and Kevin Druggan Division 2.
00:07:22He does actually listen to the podcast, by the way, so we need to get this right at some point.
00:07:25So, first of all, you didn't quite kick off on time. Why was that?
00:07:29Well, I admittedly got there at the minute before kick-off.
00:07:32That's fine.
00:07:3360 seconds.
00:07:34Exactly.
00:07:35Probably not the most professional of moves.
00:07:37Very professional.
00:07:38We'll discuss that one-to-one later.
00:07:40And then I realised that I was turning up at the same time as the referee.
00:07:43Okay.
00:07:44So that was a bit of a bummer.
00:07:46It was a bit of a bummer.
00:07:47It was a bit of a bummer.
00:07:48It was a bit of a bummer.
00:07:49It was a bit of a bummer.
00:07:50It was a bit of a bummer.
00:07:51It was a bit of a bummer.
00:07:52It was a bit of a bummer.
00:07:53It was a bit of a bummer.
00:07:54Okay.
00:07:55So that was a minute before kick-off.
00:07:56It was meant to be.
00:07:57So I speak to the Kastertown coach, who was the club manager last year, by the way.
00:08:03And then he said that Kastertown were missing some key players.
00:08:06And I said, why is it not kicking off yet?
00:08:08He said, the referee's only just turned up.
00:08:10And I was like, oh, okay, it's fine.
00:08:11You can kick off in about 10 minutes' time.
00:08:13It's not the end of the world.
00:08:14And then, obviously, it all kicks off.
00:08:16Well, it didn't.
00:08:18It didn't.
00:08:19It kicks off in another way.
00:08:20Yeah.
00:08:21So I was reading your excellent report on Isle of Man today, yesterday, breaking news, all that jazz.
00:08:26You said that there were some issues with the pitch.
00:08:29Is that correct?
00:08:30Yeah.
00:08:31If you want to say issues.
00:08:32Issues raised with the pitch.
00:08:33Issues raised with the pitch, yeah.
00:08:34There seemed to be the belief that there was dog poo on the pitch.
00:08:39It wasn't dog poo.
00:08:40You think it might be a rogue owl.
00:08:42Well, it could have been an owl.
00:08:43You don't know.
00:08:44It could have been any owl.
00:08:45Any other one that's a technology.
00:08:46You've got some pictures of the said faeces.
00:08:49Yeah.
00:08:50Which we're going to put overlay now.
00:08:52So if you're listening to this on the many fine podcast platforms that we're hosted upon,
00:08:57you might want to have a little look at our Daily Motion or our YouTube pages,
00:09:03and we will have the actual pictures from this.
00:09:05Yes.
00:09:06And we'd love to hear your thoughts on what you think it is.
00:09:08Because we had a quick look in the office, and we say maybe not an owl.
00:09:13Pellet, I think, is the correct term.
00:09:15Because there wasn't enough mouse carcass in it.
00:09:20Yeah.
00:09:21It's very scientific and very exact.
00:09:23Despite being experts at talking faeces, we're not actually experts at it.
00:09:27Correcting.
00:09:28Yeah.
00:09:29That's the takeaway from this week's podcast.
00:09:32But one of our wildlife experts suggested it might be a cat.
00:09:36Yeah.
00:09:37I'm thinking cat as well.
00:09:38I've examined the footage.
00:09:39Lip of a big cat.
00:09:40Yeah.
00:09:41It took quite a while to glaze over it in the office, didn't we?
00:09:43We did have a look, a stern look, and it took quite a chunk of our day, actually.
00:09:47Maybe not so that.
00:09:48We just want to get the facts right.
00:09:50Anyway.
00:09:51It wasn't dog poop.
00:09:53It was animal faeces on the pitch.
00:09:56Yes.
00:09:57So then it was suggested that the game be moved to one of the many other pitches they have on the station field.
00:10:02Yes.
00:10:03So the pitch that Colby used as their main pitch last year is just further up the same playing field.
00:10:08It's literally right next to the pitch they're using now.
00:10:11So the Colby players were instructed to move the goals from the pitch
00:10:16to the other pitch, which is fair enough because you don't want to play on a pitch with faeces on it,
00:10:20which holds your hands up, one of those things.
00:10:23But then, obviously, it's...
00:10:25So then it was a verbal altercation between two players that nearly spilled over into something a bit more...
00:10:30Yes.
00:10:31So Gary Sandsbury kicks off in a way, and then there's a bit...
00:10:34I think he raised his concerns about the pitch.
00:10:37He raised his concerns loudly, yes.
00:10:39And then there was sort of a verbal altercation between coaching staff,
00:10:42and then the players got involved, and one player said something to another player,
00:10:46and, you know, we're not going to get into it, but...
00:10:48But at that point, Castletown went back into the dressing room?
00:10:51Yes, Castletown, led by one person in particular, went back into the dressing room,
00:10:55and then, yeah, they didn't come back out,
00:10:58even though the game could have been played on this other pitch, you know, further up,
00:11:02because the goals were moved, and then we were waiting there for 15 minutes
00:11:05for the players to come back out, and they didn't, so...
00:11:08So, where it is at the moment, we believe, it's sat with the FA.
00:11:12We've asked the FA for comments straight away.
00:11:14We're still...
00:11:15It's radio silence from the FA at the minute, but we...
00:11:18But upfront, we thought you did say that he spoke to someone at Colby who spoke to...
00:11:23Somebody at the FA.
00:11:24Somebody at the FA, who's basically said that it's going to go to a player management...
00:11:28So it's not the players, it's the league management...
00:11:30Yes, sorry.
00:11:31I think it's important to note that Castletown did have three important players missing that day as well, but...
00:11:36So we also, yes...
00:11:37I think, Adam, you did very well there, being Clive Myrie, until the very end of that,
00:11:42where your impartiality could be slightly questioned.
00:11:47It's difficult, though. You support your club, don't you?
00:11:49Yeah, exactly, yeah, yeah.
00:11:50I just wanted to go and watch a good game of football, you know.
00:11:52I can imagine it was all set to be a good game of football as well.
00:11:55Yeah, big early season, and it's all, you know...
00:11:58They talk about the magic lengths under the lights at Anfield,
00:12:01but there's nothing quite like a midweek fixture at Colby as well.
00:12:04And it's not very often at the start of the season we get these midweek games,
00:12:07and I kind of like it. You know, you finish from work, it's still summer's night,
00:12:10and there's not a lot else to do.
00:12:12Well, you went to the Pint at the Glen before, you know, you stroll down...
00:12:14Exactly.
00:12:15But I had a problem that day, I had a problem with our midweek game.
00:12:17Angela Davies didn't open the Crosby till 6.
00:12:19At a 6.15 kick-off, that pre-match pint is going to have to fly down, it did.
00:12:23But you were watching, not playing.
00:12:25I was watching, not playing.
00:12:26It's not like in the olden days.
00:12:27It wasn't very different.
00:12:29You wouldn't tell otherwise, would you, if I was playing, but...
00:12:33So, yeah, it's very much a case of wait and see what happens with that,
00:12:37whether the points are awarded to Colby, or are the games replayed.
00:12:41It's likely to be replayed, I can imagine, isn't it?
00:12:43Who knows?
00:12:44I think we're all waiting with bated breaths on the referee's report from that game.
00:12:48Yeah, which would be great to see, wouldn't it, because...
00:12:50Well, just an explanation of it would be fantastic.
00:12:53Right, let's look out to Saturday's games, then.
00:12:55We've got some absolute humdingers in the Cadillac Premier League this weekend, Dave.
00:12:59Everyone has got, even if we're only on the second or third game of the season,
00:13:03got something on it.
00:13:04Yeah, we were talking about this in the office yesterday, weren't we?
00:13:06They're all potentially really, really close games.
00:13:08It's hard to call any winners, isn't it?
00:13:10It's really tight.
00:13:11And this is good, this is the sort of fixtures you want to throw up, doesn't it?
00:13:14So, I've gone for my game of the day is at Croyton Lowry.
00:13:18Russian versus St Mary's.
00:13:20We're sending Eric Clug down there, so...
00:13:22Best man.
00:13:23Russian will be smarting after an opening day defeat to Foxdale.
00:13:27St Mary's, obviously, also lost on the opening day.
00:13:30How did they get on a midweek day?
00:13:32They beat Foxdale 3-1, so they bounced back.
00:13:34At home, wasn't it?
00:13:35Yeah, so that's okay.
00:13:37Russian obviously didn't play midweek, so they're still smarting from that defeat.
00:13:41So, yes.
00:13:42Adam, we'll go back to our Southern Football correspondent briefly.
00:13:46Russian, that will have hurt last week against Foxdale, won't it?
00:13:50Absolutely, yeah.
00:13:51I know I spoke to Andrew Moody before the season started.
00:13:54He said he was very hopeful ahead of the season.
00:13:56He brought in Daniel Ayle, obviously, who scored last weekend.
00:13:58I think hopes were quite high ahead of the new season,
00:14:01but when Jason Charlton was on it, he's on it, isn't he?
00:14:03So, it's one of those things.
00:14:04It's probably the shock of the opening day, wasn't it?
00:14:06Foxdale getting three points down there.
00:14:08Shock of the opening day in the top flight,
00:14:10because my shock of the opening day, I think, came in Division 2.
00:14:14We'll talk about that in a minute.
00:14:15Okay.
00:14:16Yes, so, yeah.
00:14:17So, a good game for both sides.
00:14:19St Mary's' debut obviously still didn't play last week.
00:14:21They seem to just not be able to get the ball in the back of the net.
00:14:23Yeah, basically.
00:14:24Without being asked, they could probably still be playing now.
00:14:27They still wouldn't have scored.
00:14:28They created so many chances.
00:14:30That's a really nice build-up play.
00:14:31They just couldn't put it in the back of the net.
00:14:33But they were missing a couple of players as well.
00:14:35And they seem to have put it right on Tuesday.
00:14:37Yeah, they did.
00:14:38They played well by the sounds of it.
00:14:39So, they're up and running.
00:14:41Good squad there.
00:14:42A bit like last season.
00:14:43I think they'll be there about in the top four.
00:14:45So, this is a tough one to call, isn't it?
00:14:48Yeah, but I was going to say predictions.
00:14:49Adam, are you going to stick with the home form there?
00:14:51Or do you think St Mary's will get a point on the road?
00:14:54I think it's going to be tight, but I'm going to go for a draw.
00:14:58Draw?
00:14:59Yeah.
00:15:00The Dave Morton Memorial fence?
00:15:01Tom?
00:15:02And I hope Danny Lane scores as well.
00:15:05You're pondering?
00:15:07I am.
00:15:08I'm going to go with St Mary's.
00:15:11I'm going to go with St Mary's just.
00:15:13I think now they've got their first man under the belt on Tuesday,
00:15:17they'll be confident to get the ball rolling now.
00:15:21And I think maybe the opening day, it sounds like they played well,
00:15:24just couldn't score.
00:15:25Maybe now they've got a few goals under their belt.
00:15:27And they've got good players, don't they?
00:15:29Really strong squad.
00:15:30So, yeah, I'm going to just go Mary's.
00:15:32But rushing at home as well, that's a big advantage.
00:15:34I think if it was at the bowl, maybe it would be a bit different.
00:15:36I don't know.
00:15:37If they lose their first two, it's a big blow.
00:15:39Yeah.
00:15:40I'm going with Adam.
00:15:41I think this is going to be a draw.
00:15:42I think rushing will be determined to get something out of this.
00:15:46And I think it will completely set nicely for St Mary's to win.
00:15:49So it lost a win and a draw.
00:15:50Yeah.
00:15:51I'm with you.
00:15:52I'm going for a Desmond 2-2.
00:15:53But let's not forget, your favourite ever goalkeeper is playing in this one.
00:15:57Might be playing in this one, Andy.
00:15:58Mark Blair.
00:15:59He's back in the first team.
00:16:00That's a – I am a big fan of Mark,
00:16:03but he's my favourite ever Manx football goalkeeper.
00:16:05There's been some absolute classics in the years.
00:16:08John Ward.
00:16:10John Ward, yeah.
00:16:11Aaron Story.
00:16:12To be fair, most of them did play for rushing.
00:16:13I'm a big fan of Stewie Fale.
00:16:15A big thing he's made.
00:16:16Stewie Fale, Foxtail, what a big thing.
00:16:18Gary Burgess.
00:16:19Yeah.
00:16:20Good goalkeeper.
00:16:21Stewie's head must have slipped.
00:16:22Was Burgess the one that was famous in TT, close to the edge?
00:16:25Was he pictured on the side of the road?
00:16:27I don't remember.
00:16:28Yeah, I think he was.
00:16:30He played for Michael in St John's, didn't he, Gary?
00:16:32Yeah.
00:16:33So I'll have to have a think about that.
00:16:34Yeah, that's a podcast for another day.
00:16:36Yeah, for another day.
00:16:37Yeah, so I think draws all round on the Dave Norton Memorial fence for that one.
00:16:41Right, next game, Peel versus Laxey Dave.
00:16:44There's Laxey Dave.
00:16:45Now, Peel, having been perhaps maybe slightly under the radar pre-season,
00:16:50a 2-1 mousey now.
00:16:51Great result midweek, beating Ramsey.
00:16:53Yeah, so it's two 3-1 wins in a row.
00:16:56But that, at Balaclone, I mean, again, we've talked about this in the past,
00:17:00but Ramsey's record at home is pretty formidable.
00:17:02So that's a great result.
00:17:04We obviously talked about Thomas Browne getting the under-21 player of the year
00:17:08last year.
00:17:09He's already started on fire.
00:17:11And they seem to be finding the goals despite Lee Gale not being there.
00:17:14So, yeah, great start for them.
00:17:15Peel have been excellent from what I hear from the start.
00:17:18And this Ben Woodbridge I'd like to talk about.
00:17:20He's meant to be very good.
00:17:2116 years old, coming through.
00:17:23He's got a 25-year-old Wunderstreiker brother.
00:17:26It sounds like he could be the real deal.
00:17:28And Peel seem to always find these players, I feel like.
00:17:31I think, to be fair to them, they put a lot of effort into their junior side.
00:17:36And they have done for a long time now.
00:17:39They do steal from all the Western clubs as well.
00:17:44But no, no, they've got a great junior set-up at Peel.
00:17:46And why would you not?
00:17:47I think Gale has said in his interview with me that when he was growing up
00:17:49around Foxtail, yes, he played for Foxtail at a young age.
00:17:52But it was all about playing for Peel back then.
00:17:54And I think that's kind of maybe still the case.
00:17:56You know, you grow up at QE2 high school.
00:17:57You're in the West.
00:17:58Maybe the kids have the aspirations to play for Peel.
00:18:00I never did.
00:18:01But a lot of people do, don't they?
00:18:03That's because you're barred from the place, man.
00:18:05I wouldn't get in the team.
00:18:06I'd still get in my own team.
00:18:07Yeah, I think it's a big aspiration.
00:18:09And I think this Ben Woodbridge looks to be the real deal.
00:18:12And he's obviously got a goal on the opening day in a Western derby at St John's.
00:18:15Laxey, Dave.
00:18:16Now, it sounds like it was an interesting game for them on Saturday.
00:18:19Yeah, I mean, to put it mildly, they were 6-0 down after half an hour against there.
00:18:24I mean, that's a bad start.
00:18:26I don't think any of us saw that.
00:18:27No.
00:18:28But to be fair to them, they got it back.
00:18:30And I think the edge of the second half, it ended up being 7-3 overall.
00:18:35So they hit back well.
00:18:36But obviously, the damage had already been done.
00:18:38I don't know, Tom, have you got any insights from Tom Cowan?
00:18:40Did he say anything to you?
00:18:41No, I've not spoken to him about the start, really.
00:18:43I've not caught up with him about this game.
00:18:45Which has surprised me, because I'd love to have sat down with him and talked about that.
00:18:49It was all about the score, isn't it?
00:18:50Yeah, exactly.
00:18:51And you know what?
00:18:52It sounds like they turned it around.
00:18:53But maybe this result is throwing a few people off.
00:18:56Maybe people don't think Laxey and you up there are strong.
00:18:58But they've still got their team.
00:19:00I think they'll be like these results throughout the season.
00:19:02For everyone, maybe you'll pick and lose.
00:19:04Maybe not Air, actually.
00:19:05I think Air might have stolen ahead.
00:19:07But I think there'll be teams in and around this top 6, maybe 8 bracket
00:19:10that will lose and win to each other.
00:19:11So I don't think Laxey should be too worried or concerned.
00:19:14There'll be better teams than them that can concede more than 7 goals to Air.
00:19:18I think Air, on their day, can do that to anyone.
00:19:21They won 3-2 if you ignore the first half of that one.
00:19:24Exactly, yeah.
00:19:25It's like a true Colby fan.
00:19:27To be fair, they bounced back, won the old Classico 2-1 against Laxey.
00:19:33Associates of St. George's.
00:19:34Associates of St. George's, sorry.
00:19:35They did well to beat themselves.
00:19:37Yeah, St. George's.
00:19:38So they've got some points on the board.
00:19:40As we've already talked about in last week's pre-season episode,
00:19:44Geordie's are getting back to where they were.
00:19:47I wouldn't say they're back as strong as they were.
00:19:49But they've definitely recruited well over the summer.
00:19:51So that's a good result.
00:19:52However, I still think this is a Peel win.
00:19:55Adam, do you think on Saturday?
00:19:56Is it at Peel?
00:19:57Yeah.
00:19:58Back the home advantage.
00:19:59Expert analysis, back the home advantage.
00:20:01I'll go Peel, but I think this will be tight.
00:20:03I can see it being a 2-1 maybe to Peel.
00:20:06But what a heck of a start Peel have had to the season.
00:20:09Do you know the teams they're playing?
00:20:11There's no...
00:20:12St. John's, the Western Derby.
00:20:14Then they had Ramsey.
00:20:17They had Ramsey and they'd won.
00:20:18If they get a win against Laxey, we've actually got to start talking about them
00:20:22maybe going over there all the way again.
00:20:24And who'd have thought that with the change in management
00:20:26and young players coming through as well.
00:20:29You see they're struggling at Hunkern as well,
00:20:31so it's not exactly going to be a...
00:20:32Yeah, that was a close game.
00:20:34That doesn't surprise me.
00:20:35We'll come to that though.
00:20:36Yeah, but we spoke about that briefly with Hurty, the football writers,
00:20:40and he said, and actually this is what St. George's used to do
00:20:43when they're at their best.
00:20:44They could grind results.
00:20:46Find a way to win when you're at your best.
00:20:48And you might have missed a few.
00:20:49You know midweek you miss a few and stuff.
00:20:50Just find a way to get three points.
00:20:52And I think that's vital, isn't it?
00:20:53If you want to win anything.
00:20:55So, Peel wins Saturday?
00:20:56Yeah.
00:20:57Again, a bit like Tom, I think it's going to be a close game,
00:20:59but Peel win for me.
00:21:01Corinthians take on Ramsey up at Bala Fletcher.
00:21:04Now, to me, Corinthians have started very well.
00:21:07Obviously, we talk about the opening day in a second
00:21:10where they absolutely slacked from around 6-1.
00:21:14And then they followed that up with a 2-1 win over St. John's on Saturday.
00:21:19On Wednesday, sorry.
00:21:20Tuesday.
00:21:21Late goal for Corinthians apparently as well.
00:21:23Again, grind the results out.
00:21:25So, they take on Ramsey who will be eager to sort of flex
00:21:30on that Ian Dowie bounce-back ability after their loss against Peel, Dave.
00:21:34So, again, this looks a close game.
00:21:37Yeah, it does.
00:21:38And I wouldn't really like to call this.
00:21:39Hattie's going along to this one, so we'll get his expert coverage on this one.
00:21:44I saw the start of that Corinthians-Brown game the other day,
00:21:48and it was a close start to the match.
00:21:50I mean, obviously, the goal started to flow after I left,
00:21:52but both teams were playing some good stuff early doors.
00:21:55Corinthians, though, they've got the firepower.
00:21:57They can turn up against any team, whereas Ramsey,
00:22:00obviously, they're very good at scoring goals as well,
00:22:02but they're a bit more solid, I would say.
00:22:04So, I don't know.
00:22:05I'm going to have to sit on the fence.
00:22:07I'm going for a draw.
00:22:08I'd say Corinthians did surprise me in the opening day.
00:22:11They were very strong.
00:22:12I think I put them to go down, actually.
00:22:13So, apologies to them.
00:22:15But then, Marouane did have a few missing.
00:22:18I must add to that as well.
00:22:19I know I'm defending them,
00:22:21but it was quite a weak first team
00:22:23in comparison to what we would normally have.
00:22:25So, I think Corinthians have started really strong.
00:22:28They got a late winner against St. John's,
00:22:29but I think this will be too much for them.
00:22:31I can only see a Ramsey-comfortable win.
00:22:35Adam?
00:22:36Corinthians, two wins from two.
00:22:37Big believer in 100% records.
00:22:39I'm going to have to go for it.
00:22:41You've got to have a laugh.
00:22:42Were you going to get a T-shirt with that?
00:22:43Yeah, yeah.
00:22:44In fact, they were quite an easy start, though, I believe.
00:22:46So, it's, yeah, one of those.
00:22:49I'm out for the same reasons, but I'm going to...
00:22:54I think this has got Dave Norton-Drawer all over it.
00:22:56Yeah, I know.
00:22:57I think Jeremy Marquez has scored a couple,
00:23:01and Joe Middleton.
00:23:02Ben said in his pre-season comments
00:23:05they've got him until Christmas.
00:23:06That's a massive plus.
00:23:07I think, in the same way,
00:23:09Foxtail were trying to make Haywell and Sunshines with Galen.
00:23:11Yeah.
00:23:12They'll be trying to get Joey fit, available,
00:23:14and scoring in as many games as he can
00:23:16between now and Christmas.
00:23:17So, yeah, I...
00:23:19But, again, Ramsey, a good team.
00:23:22Last week, they got 2-0 win away in the capital.
00:23:25I think they'll get...
00:23:26Maybe they'll have to settle for a point this time round.
00:23:29Right, just up the road, Gary Moore.
00:23:32The windiest, windiest ground in Manx football.
00:23:36Union Mills take on St John's.
00:23:38Union Mills, Dave, are on it, aren't they?
00:23:41Yeah, I mean, we could talk about, obviously,
00:23:44the game that I covered at the weekend,
00:23:46but also the Marouane game midweek as well.
00:23:49And it was 3-0.
00:23:50Was it pretty comprehensive, Tom?
00:23:51Two 3-0 wins, I've just realised for them.
00:23:53That's a great start.
00:23:54Not considered a goal.
00:23:55Yeah, it wasn't easy work for Union Mills
00:23:59against Marouane on Tuesday
00:24:00because first half, it was...
00:24:04Mills threw around, had all the chances,
00:24:06and I think they hit the ball three, maybe four times,
00:24:08so they were knocking on the door.
00:24:10Funnily enough, the goal was 100% offside,
00:24:12their first one, 100%.
00:24:14They had a ref and a liner,
00:24:16but the liner was the other side.
00:24:17Nathan Cole was there, Liam Thomas in the middle.
00:24:19Despite my screaming, he didn't rule the goal out.
00:24:22It was given.
00:24:23And then, even to get the second...
00:24:24I know 3-0 sounds quite comprehensive for Mills,
00:24:26but it was the last five minutes of the game
00:24:28that they got the last two.
00:24:29Marouane were pushing on towards the end
00:24:31and could have got an equaliser,
00:24:32so I think Mills have...
00:24:33Don McHarry, Brennan Simon's one of the best
00:24:36in this summer, I think that is.
00:24:37He's a level above, he looked quality,
00:24:39and he got the first goal in that game.
00:24:41He's a tremendous FCL man,
00:24:42last season and the season before.
00:24:44There's no doubt, so he looked really good.
00:24:46And yeah, Mills, I think, will grind their way to...
00:24:48I think they did that against Marouane,
00:24:49it was in horrible conditions down at the playing fields,
00:24:51and they found a way to win,
00:24:52and there was something Marouane could do with doing.
00:24:54And Luke Booth as well,
00:24:56he was always going to bag a goal.
00:24:58They looked...
00:24:59I think you made a very good point.
00:25:01The fact they've kept two clean sheets
00:25:03is probably the most surprising thing
00:25:05about those results,
00:25:06because they have an embarrassment
00:25:07of riches going forward.
00:25:08You said last night you came up against Cagliari
00:25:10in the Colney,
00:25:11he was first team striker.
00:25:13But then the two defenders,
00:25:15Nathan Yates and Owen Quayle,
00:25:18you know what,
00:25:19them two,
00:25:21they're like...
00:25:22and they don't look like they'd be good on the ball,
00:25:23I don't know what it is,
00:25:24but they play nice football out from the back.
00:25:26They're complimented footballers.
00:25:28But I think they're two good, strong defenders.
00:25:31Owen Quayle, I think...
00:25:32They seem to get their legs to everything,
00:25:33one of them.
00:25:34He sort of cut his teeth at Pulley,
00:25:37and then they sort of kicked on again at Mills.
00:25:39So, yeah, I think we...
00:25:41As you say, Ryan's mentioned railway cup,
00:25:43I think I mentioned it the other week.
00:25:45They've got to definitely be in that bracket now.
00:25:47And the way they've...
00:25:48I know we've only got a couple of games in,
00:25:50but if they keep on like this,
00:25:52they could even be in with a title title.
00:25:55Yeah, we can't rule them out.
00:25:56I think it's going to be one of those seasons
00:25:57you alluded to before, Tom.
00:25:58I think everyone's going to be able
00:25:59to take points off each other,
00:26:00which is going to make great for the neutrals,
00:26:02isn't it?
00:26:03Yeah.
00:26:04St John's, Adam,
00:26:05can they find a way to derail
00:26:07this early season with Union Mills jugging up?
00:26:09I don't think so.
00:26:10I remember doing my predictions,
00:26:12and I didn't...
00:26:13I think I overlooked Don McCarry.
00:26:14I remember seeing him playing against Cogs last year,
00:26:16and I think he's absolutely fantastic.
00:26:17So, I honestly think he could be
00:26:19in the sharp play of the season this year.
00:26:20And yeah, I back Union Mills to carry on.
00:26:22St John's had a pretty tough start as well,
00:26:23haven't they?
00:26:24I know two tough games,
00:26:25in fairness to them,
00:26:26Peel and Corinthians,
00:26:27but they've lost both,
00:26:28and I know...
00:26:29It's on my watch, though.
00:26:30Luke Murray's a scorer there as well.
00:26:31He's always going to be a help this season
00:26:32when he's not playing elsewhere.
00:26:34So, I don't know.
00:26:35I think they've still got the likes of Joey Savage.
00:26:36They've still got a lot of the players there
00:26:38that are getting out of jail,
00:26:39but they need to start winning at some point.
00:26:41Quick question about Joey Savage.
00:26:43So, I was watching him play
00:26:44on pre-season the other week,
00:26:46when I was playing football myself on the Astro.
00:26:48Joey Savage, what position?
00:26:50Everywhere.
00:26:51But me, I like him at full-back,
00:26:52and I think he likes it at full-back,
00:26:54but then he has been playing on the wing.
00:26:55He was part of front three,
00:26:56I think I heard the other week.
00:26:57He was wearing the number 10.
00:26:58Oh, I see.
00:26:59This is one of my pet peeves
00:27:00of when I'm playing football, right?
00:27:02You play him right back,
00:27:03but where to?
00:27:04Yeah, but do you realise,
00:27:05in Manx football now,
00:27:06it's all about sizing?
00:27:07So, I have to suppose wear a number 14,
00:27:10and I'm more of a number 4,
00:27:12because it's actually...
00:27:13Actually, Mario Balotelli was a number 9, I reckon.
00:27:15It's all that.
00:27:16The numbers aren't associated
00:27:17to how big the size is,
00:27:18it's nothing like that,
00:27:19but it's...
00:27:20How do they size it?
00:27:21Do they think,
00:27:22oh, he's a full-back,
00:27:23he'll be quite small?
00:27:24Well, I can't...
00:27:25I don't know how they do it,
00:27:26but I can't...
00:27:27I'm not saying Joey's a big lad,
00:27:28I know he's not,
00:27:29but it just threw me.
00:27:30Why are you playing your playmaker at full-back?
00:27:32Because I can imagine
00:27:33maybe number 10 was a small or a medium kit,
00:27:35and it fits in there Joe nicely.
00:27:36Game's gone.
00:27:37Yeah, it has gone.
00:27:38Everyone extra large.
00:27:40Like, we look at this fine
00:27:41Isle of Man Football Association,
00:27:43Julian Wrigham,
00:27:44that's a 46-inch chest, right?
00:27:46And Julian Wrigham was...
00:27:48Probably about 30?
00:27:49Yeah.
00:27:50He wore it with pride.
00:27:51And was it drowning?
00:27:52Probably.
00:27:53And every player had the same size kit.
00:27:55So, would you rather an oversized shoe
00:27:57or an undersized shoe?
00:27:58I'm fat, so I've got to go oversized.
00:28:00I'd rather drown in it.
00:28:02You talk about positions and numbers,
00:28:03that says Morton number 8,
00:28:04that wasn't box-to-box.
00:28:09Why were you wearing 8 then?
00:28:10I've no idea.
00:28:11Are you a part of the problem?
00:28:12I am.
00:28:13I know, I've disgraced myself to be honest.
00:28:14Anyway, so yes,
00:28:15St John's,
00:28:16this does look like a home wins me.
00:28:17St John's though,
00:28:18could get something out of this
00:28:19with the following wins,
00:28:20which is always a possibility
00:28:21at Unimills.
00:28:22Yeah, definitely.
00:28:23Right, St George's Onk and Dave,
00:28:25the Battle of Glencuttry Road.
00:28:28Yeah.
00:28:29I've just made that up.
00:28:30You are.
00:28:32This is where Dean's going,
00:28:33so we'll get coverage on that as well.
00:28:35Yeah, difficult one to call this one.
00:28:38I mean,
00:28:39Onk and Dave,
00:28:40we mentioned it before,
00:28:41but they put up a really good fight
00:28:42against Ayr the other night.
00:28:43It was only 2-1.
00:28:44I think it was a penalty
00:28:45that won it in the end for Ayr.
00:28:47Did they not play on the opening day, Onk and Dave?
00:28:50At a free week.
00:28:51At a free week, yeah.
00:28:52So, I mean,
00:28:53tough stuff.
00:28:54It's the season for a remote time,
00:28:56but you know,
00:28:57fair play to them.
00:28:58Again, with this one though,
00:29:00Jordies have had two toughish games.
00:29:03I mean,
00:29:04we're obviously talking about them a lot.
00:29:05We don't really know what level they're at at the moment.
00:29:08You're talking about them getting the band back together,
00:29:10so they've obviously got a good squad there.
00:29:12There's only so long that band can play together.
00:29:14Well, that's it, yeah.
00:29:16Speaking of someone in the twilight of my playing career,
00:29:21whether it's never happened.
00:29:23You're just saying that
00:29:24because you've injured your shoulder again.
00:29:26No, I haven't injured it again.
00:29:27It's just old.
00:29:28It wasn't slightly damp today.
00:29:31Winter is coming.
00:29:32Winter is coming.
00:29:33Well, I predicted there'd be sailings disrupted today,
00:29:36and that was before I saw the email.
00:29:39But no, yeah,
00:29:40this will be a good marker for both teams.
00:29:42Onk recruited heavily in the summer,
00:29:45as we talked about, Tom,
00:29:46half of Douglas Royal's first-team squad have gone there.
00:29:48Shocking.
00:29:50I think this could be a draw as well.
00:29:52This could be a coupon bust for this week.
00:29:54Yeah, absolutely.
00:29:55Yeah, I'd have to say the same.
00:29:57This one's going to be...
00:29:58I think this will be a draw.
00:29:59It'll be tight.
00:30:00As you say,
00:30:01we don't really know what Geordie's are like so far, do we?
00:30:03It's going to be an interesting spot to see.
00:30:05And Onken, again,
00:30:07based on that result against Ayr,
00:30:09that's hard to do that.
00:30:10It's a point.
00:30:11I know what teams have got to do in the playing area.
00:30:13It's set up in banks before.
00:30:14I don't know whether Onken did that or not,
00:30:16but that's a cracking result,
00:30:18even though they lost.
00:30:20Yeah, look at what we said before.
00:30:22What do Ayr do to a lot of teams?
00:30:23Steamroll them.
00:30:24It's hard to stop that training
00:30:26from just coming and battling you.
00:30:27It can get embarrassing.
00:30:29And it's all about not dropping your head,
00:30:30I think, against Ayr.
00:30:31You know when you're 2-3-0 down,
00:30:32you know you're not really...
00:30:33you're unlikely to get anything from the game anymore.
00:30:35It's about not giving up.
00:30:36It could all come down to goal difference,
00:30:38but then again,
00:30:39goal difference doesn't matter, does it?
00:30:41We're not going there again, Tom.
00:30:43That was last season.
00:30:46You had 20 minutes on your Tom Kirby bingo card
00:30:49for goal difference.
00:30:51Adam, what do you think for this game?
00:30:54I think I'm going to do all right this year.
00:30:55I mean, you sometimes worry about teams coming up,
00:30:57don't you?
00:30:58They've got to go miserably straight back down,
00:30:59but they've, like you say,
00:31:00brought on a lot of players from Royals,
00:31:01so I think they'll do all right.
00:31:03And yeah, I think they'll win again.
00:31:06Aspridge is a good sign, isn't he?
00:31:08Versatile.
00:31:09He's a good Div 1 player for a team around there,
00:31:11I think.
00:31:12Hard worker, isn't he?
00:31:13Yeah, he is.
00:31:14He'll make a difference this season.
00:31:15The final game in the top flight
00:31:17is the big one in certain quarters.
00:31:19What cup?
00:31:20Is there a cup played for this?
00:31:21No, there's not.
00:31:22I don't think there used to be one.
00:31:24They play Laxey in the minors,
00:31:25and they won't.
00:31:26Yeah, so this is Foxdale-Moran up at Billymoat Park.
00:31:29It has rained.
00:31:30It has rained.
00:31:31Game's off.
00:31:32But we say that,
00:31:34and Moran hasn't been that good.
00:31:36It's been so damp
00:31:37that you've kind of got to almost say,
00:31:38Foxdale, if it's off, it's fair enough.
00:31:40It's fair enough.
00:31:41Because often there is times
00:31:42where we've gone throughout the years,
00:31:43let's see, how is that game off?
00:31:44Every other one is on.
00:31:45But Billymoat,
00:31:46I know they've been trying to work on it,
00:31:47so fingers crossed this game gets on.
00:31:49Tomorrow's meant to be nice.
00:31:50Saturday, fingers crossed is nice as well.
00:31:53So Dave, Foxdale, 1-1, lost one.
00:31:56Not a bad return on the returns of the top right
00:31:58for a first time in nearly 30 years.
00:32:01And with all due respect to our man on the right,
00:32:04they should be targeting three points at this one.
00:32:06Yeah, I think this is the sort of game,
00:32:08at the start of the season,
00:32:09after the reinstatement,
00:32:10that they would have been looking at.
00:32:11I'm sure Barton Berman's been giving Tom a bit of stick as well
00:32:14over this one.
00:32:15Any ridiculous bets placed on this, Matt?
00:32:17No, but we definitely should.
00:32:18Now I think about it,
00:32:19because I'm ready to lose some money.
00:32:22Like every weekend.
00:32:24Yeah, but you talked about Foxdale before.
00:32:27I mean, that second half against Russian,
00:32:29it sounded pretty crazy.
00:32:30I mean, Chalmers scored.
00:32:31Well, they scored twice within a minute, didn't they?
00:32:33Yeah.
00:32:34And that result just gives me so much confidence going forward.
00:32:38Bit of a setback, obviously midweek,
00:32:39but some areas are a good start.
00:32:41So I'm expecting Foxdale to bounce back.
00:32:43Do you think the signing of Lee Gale
00:32:45would bring everyone at the club
00:32:47to a certain standard and level?
00:32:49Yeah.
00:32:50Sometimes we forget we're talking about amateur football
00:32:52and we try and apply professional logic to it
00:32:55in the way that it cascades down from the media and everything.
00:32:59Yeah.
00:33:00But you're not wrong.
00:33:01Gale coming into training,
00:33:03we know he keeps himself in great nick.
00:33:06He's a brilliant cyclist.
00:33:09He is a player that we saw the influence of on a Peel squad
00:33:13with no due respect to Foxdale
00:33:15at a slightly higher level.
00:33:17He's undoubtedly going to bring it.
00:33:19You can imagine yourself,
00:33:20if someone like that walks into training,
00:33:22suddenly you're like, we're on, lads.
00:33:24You almost want to impress him as well, don't you?
00:33:26Even though he's mates,
00:33:28and we talked about that in the interview last week,
00:33:30he's played football with these lads when he was 14.
00:33:32But it brings everyone up.
00:33:34There'll be little bits that Lee,
00:33:37you know, he's played for FCR,
00:33:39he's played for the Isle of Man,
00:33:40he's played for Peel for 16, 17 years.
00:33:44Silly night goals.
00:33:46There'll be bits he's learned
00:33:48from some of the best managers in the Isle of Man game.
00:33:51Those bits he can bring to Foxdale are massive.
00:33:55Do you know what I mean?
00:33:56And he stopped last weekend.
00:33:58Yeah, he did.
00:33:59How's he going to get in the team?
00:34:01It's 1-3, Aaron.
00:34:02It's 1-3.
00:34:03It's the best 1-3 amongst football.
00:34:05So just make sure that gets out there.
00:34:07What about Union Mills?
00:34:08Yeah, he's deluded.
00:34:09But one thing I will say about Gael just quickly is
00:34:12that interview I did with him,
00:34:13he's not just come here for a little bit of a
00:34:15let's play one eights again.
00:34:16He's raring to go.
00:34:17And I think he doesn't do anything in halves, does he?
00:34:19No.
00:34:20Gael is going to come to Foxdale and he thinks a man...
00:34:21Well, he's going to play half a season.
00:34:22Well, yeah.
00:34:23That's quite ironic.
00:34:24He's off soon, isn't he?
00:34:26But no, they'll be desperate.
00:34:27These type of games as well,
00:34:28maybe in the past,
00:34:29Foxdale might have saved the pitch.
00:34:31They'll be desperate to get the pitch going
00:34:33so Gael can get as many games in as possible before
00:34:35because they won't want to be playing this.
00:34:36Bartleby will not want to play this game against Moran
00:34:38without Lee Gael.
00:34:39Because they need him.
00:34:41Just a word on Moran,
00:34:42it would be terrible.
00:34:44It's a very chemical.
00:34:46Just a word on Moran though.
00:34:49You said that on Tuesday night
00:34:52it was actually quite an encouraging performance.
00:34:54It was much better than Saturday.
00:34:55Yeah, a bit better.
00:34:56It's still been a tough start
00:34:57and I think we all knew that from the get-go
00:34:59that it's another season of trying our best
00:35:01to fight to stay in the league.
00:35:03And I think that's...
00:35:05The fact that we've agreed to go back up
00:35:07and be reinstated into the Premier League,
00:35:09we knew it was going to be a challenge.
00:35:10And these type of games,
00:35:11let's not lie,
00:35:12Corinthians are going to be a good decision.
00:35:14Mills are going to be strong.
00:35:15I think the standard of the league
00:35:17is so strong this season
00:35:18that maybe Moran will suffer more in certain games
00:35:21and win certain games.
00:35:22And Moran don't like to win the opening few games anyway.
00:35:24If we normally wait until Christmas
00:35:26to get our first points
00:35:27and then get a great escape here,
00:35:28which we managed.
00:35:29You mentioned you guys were missing a few players
00:35:32on the opening weekend.
00:35:33You had the likes of Connor Gilder and Matt Batford.
00:35:35They're huge as well.
00:35:36Carl playing.
00:35:37Carl Hart.
00:35:38Funnily enough,
00:35:39he left footed Volley,
00:35:40smashed the crossbar against Mills
00:35:41and that could have put us 1-0 up.
00:35:43And how quickly does a game change there?
00:35:44I know that was probably one of our only shots.
00:35:46But little things like that.
00:35:48And I think it'll come.
00:35:49I think it's all doom and gloom at the minute.
00:35:50There's worries about whether it's going to be a tough old season.
00:35:53But I think we'll ride it out.
00:35:55And I think our first three points
00:35:56will come on Saturday against Foxdale.
00:35:58And I think Chalmers is the big problem.
00:36:00You've got to stop now.
00:36:01Maybe people are targeting Gaylor so much.
00:36:02They're leaving her.
00:36:03Little Jason Chalmers,
00:36:04who questions were asked
00:36:05whether he'd step up to the big league
00:36:06and he has.
00:36:07You talk about not applying professional football logic
00:36:10to Mike's game.
00:36:12The strikers from Division 2 come up to the Premier League.
00:36:15Sometimes they struggle in the Premier League.
00:36:17Chalmers and Chatwood,
00:36:18they're not going to struggle in the Premier League.
00:36:20Well, Chatwood has played in the Premier League.
00:36:21There's always one, though, isn't there?
00:36:22If you think about it,
00:36:23if we apply professional logic,
00:36:24there's always one striker that comes up
00:36:26and still scores goals.
00:36:27You have Marcus Stewart, Ipswich.
00:36:29Yeah.
00:36:30And David Nugent ends up getting a catch.
00:36:33But he didn't come up, did he?
00:36:35I just think if Adam Armstrong,
00:36:36who's expert championship comes to the Premier League,
00:36:38can't do it.
00:36:39So I just think it's fair enough.
00:36:41You know, you talk about Liga and everyone on the left.
00:36:43That result against Russia last week was massive.
00:36:46Would have been huge for them.
00:36:47I think they had their first social as well.
00:36:49So can you imagine?
00:36:50And Gabriel's right in the thick of it all
00:36:51because he knows all the lads as well.
00:36:53It's probably a really good feel,
00:36:54good factor at Foxtrot at the minute.
00:36:56And it's all going to come crushing down this Saturday
00:36:58when I'm at the Billy Goat Park
00:36:59and there can't be a win at the playing fields.
00:37:02Adam?
00:37:03You've got to be realistic, Tom.
00:37:06I'm going to go...
00:37:07I'm going to sit on the fence.
00:37:09The question is,
00:37:10would both teams take a point this early on?
00:37:12You don't want to...
00:37:13Yeah.
00:37:14Miranda's snapped her hand off.
00:37:16I don't know.
00:37:17I don't know.
00:37:18I think this one's...
00:37:19I'm going to go with Miranda.
00:37:20Really tight,
00:37:21but I think Miranda might edge it 2-1.
00:37:22You're saying about
00:37:23he's going to be asleep this night on Friday, aren't you?
00:37:25James doesn't need to sleep.
00:37:28He'll be up for the game.
00:37:29He's got a young pitch.
00:37:32Right.
00:37:33Now on to Europe's best division,
00:37:34the Arden and Kevin Druggan Division 2.
00:37:37For only the four games,
00:37:38just because of the way of
00:37:39Jim's and Douglas Dafka's
00:37:41recent defection to a Combi 2.
00:37:42Well, I say recent.
00:37:43Dafka were playing in Combi 2 last season as well.
00:37:47It's hard to pick a top game in this for me,
00:37:50but I'm going to go for it anyway
00:37:51and say cast down Uthi.
00:37:53Uthi.
00:37:54Right.
00:37:55Where do we start with Uthi?
00:37:57Last week,
00:37:58comprehensively beaten 10-1
00:38:01by Radom.
00:38:04I've done that twice now.
00:38:05By Radom on the opening day of the season.
00:38:07Yeah.
00:38:08Then, get a point off,
00:38:10we've all said,
00:38:11promotion chasing Michael on Tuesday.
00:38:13Yeah.
00:38:14Yeah, it was Tuesday, wasn't it?
00:38:15It was.
00:38:16A lot of screamers in that game as well.
00:38:17Yeah.
00:38:18Will Smith, not that one.
00:38:19Yeah.
00:38:20Or not that one.
00:38:21Not the Radom one.
00:38:22Or the one that plays
00:38:24various actor roles of slapstick.
00:38:26We've got various pieces of bad ballet over here.
00:38:28He scored a belter from 25 yards,
00:38:30although as a goalkeeper,
00:38:31I'm maybe questioning the moment.
00:38:33I think that's a little bit harsh
00:38:34because it is such a good goal
00:38:36that maybe he could have hands higher.
00:38:39Yeah.
00:38:40But anyway, yeah.
00:38:41We questioned that.
00:38:42But if you're the manager at Uthi,
00:38:44are you now thinking,
00:38:45why the flip couldn't we do that on the first day?
00:38:47Or are you thinking,
00:38:48brilliant,
00:38:49they've sort of come back
00:38:50from that opening day
00:38:51absolute shellacking
00:38:53and are showing what they are really about?
00:38:56Yeah, probably a bit of both.
00:38:57But also, let's not discredit Braddon
00:38:59because they're obviously a very good side.
00:39:01They could just be swell strong this year.
00:39:03Come down with a point to prove,
00:39:04like pre-scoring.
00:39:06Castletown though,
00:39:07obviously we know they didn't play on Tuesday
00:39:11and they didn't play on Saturday either.
00:39:13So this is their first game of the season.
00:39:15Saturday wasn't because of our excrement.
00:39:18It was their free week.
00:39:20So they'll be just wanting to get a game in now,
00:39:23won't they?
00:39:24Yeah, they were due to play DAFKA
00:39:25on the opening day,
00:39:26but obviously that didn't happen.
00:39:27So their combi won 7-1
00:39:30and the likes of Nathan Cardy
00:39:32getting a hat-trick in that game.
00:39:33So it shows you they've got the talent in the squad.
00:39:38This is going to be an interesting game to call this one.
00:39:42I'm going to say Castletown win.
00:39:44I know Adam, you're going to hate that.
00:39:46But yeah, I'm going to go for it.
00:39:47A narrow Castletown win.
00:39:48Draw.
00:39:49Got draw written all over it.
00:39:51Seven all.
00:39:52I can see a youthy away win.
00:39:55Yeah, I can see.
00:39:56Castletown haven't played yet.
00:39:58We don't know what they're about.
00:39:59I know they've lost a few.
00:40:00Danny Lane.
00:40:01They've still got Nathan Cardy, don't they?
00:40:02They've got Nathan Cardy, yeah.
00:40:03He played in the combo last week.
00:40:04Yeah.
00:40:05But he wasn't available midweek,
00:40:06which is important to know.
00:40:07There's no Everton game,
00:40:08which means Adam Kinvig will probably be in goal.
00:40:10Adam Kinvig will probably be in goal
00:40:11because of the Everton game.
00:40:12Yeah, I assume so.
00:40:13Yeah, he probably will be.
00:40:14So maybe that'll make a difference,
00:40:15not the Honeymonster.
00:40:16Adam Kinvig instead.
00:40:17I don't know.
00:40:18Maybe I'll go draw instead then.
00:40:19Sorry, youthy.
00:40:20Sorry, Rory Paul.
00:40:21This isn't based on bias,
00:40:22but I think youthy are going to win
00:40:23and it's because, like Tom says,
00:40:30played a few games with the Severn side
00:40:31over the summer.
00:40:33He is a good player.
00:40:35Yeah, he's a great scorer.
00:40:36He got so many goals last season, didn't he?
00:40:38He scored most of them in the summer against me.
00:40:40Yeah.
00:40:41He's far too good for Wednesday night football.
00:40:44That's all I've been saying about you, Andy.
00:40:47Just watch out for any cats in the local area.
00:40:49Or owls.
00:40:51I feel like we might need to watch Adam on Friday night
00:40:54if he goes out for a few beers.
00:40:56He just drops in on the cat sanctuary
00:40:58on the bus and gets a few cats on the stadium.
00:41:02He's going out with James on Friday.
00:41:04He could be on the way home.
00:41:08Right.
00:41:09Braddon versus Paul Rose.
00:41:10Dave, we've already talked about Paul Rose.
00:41:12Now, this is where I want to say
00:41:13I think this was a result of the week last week.
00:41:15Yes, it was.
00:41:16I'm reliably informed that my comments about Braddon
00:41:20maybe not being on it
00:41:22we made in last week's podcast
00:41:25have been put into the Braddon,
00:41:27the Swans WhatsApp group.
00:41:30They've been using that as inspiration.
00:41:33It isn't the first time it's happened with this podcast.
00:41:36Fair play for the effort of clipping it
00:41:39and putting it in there.
00:41:41That's probably why we got two listens last week.
00:41:44No, that is.
00:41:45I love that though.
00:41:46Do you not think that someone sat there,
00:41:48clipped that, put it in
00:41:49and it's given them motivation?
00:41:51The fact that people are listening to us
00:41:52and ignoring us and making us...
00:41:54Yeah, I just love that.
00:41:55It happened with the Isle of Man FA team, didn't it?
00:41:57A few years ago with their team.
00:41:58Did it?
00:41:59Yeah, I remember because they were playing it
00:42:00in the changing rooms before the match at the Bowl.
00:42:03Did we write them off?
00:42:04Yeah, we wrote the Oasis of Divisors off
00:42:06and they won.
00:42:07So, they've used it as motivation
00:42:08against the Isle of Man team.
00:42:09Oh my.
00:42:10So, basically, you guys are costing
00:42:11Isle of Man football team's issues.
00:42:14We've historically caused them issues, yeah.
00:42:16Ever since my leather jacket went missing.
00:42:18Yeah.
00:42:19Dave's famous leather jacket.
00:42:22The Urban Myth is residing at the bottom
00:42:24of Douglas Marina, isn't it?
00:42:25I wouldn't be surprised.
00:42:26It could be anywhere.
00:42:28Right, yeah.
00:42:29So, Terry Ragao.
00:42:31Terry Ragao.
00:42:32Five goals.
00:42:33Were these two alive when the Ragao gate was a thing?
00:42:37Probably not.
00:42:38Oh, well.
00:42:39Peel were somewhat hampered
00:42:42for their title ambitions
00:42:43by a points deduction
00:42:45because Terry Ragao, the fastest bus driver,
00:42:49aside from Milky Coil,
00:42:53signed for Peel,
00:42:54but having played for Burden Albion.
00:42:57Something like that, yeah.
00:42:58In the English non-league system.
00:43:01But his registration hadn't come through
00:43:03when he played against one or two games.
00:43:05I can't remember now.
00:43:06And the points,
00:43:07Peel lost the points from those games
00:43:09and it sort of derailed their title strategy.
00:43:12Who won it that year?
00:43:13I can't remember.
00:43:15Probably St. George's.
00:43:17Yeah, I was going to say.
00:43:19Back page story, Ragao gate.
00:43:21Was it really?
00:43:22I'd love to see that.
00:43:23But Terry's since gone on to play for Old Boys, Douglas Royal.
00:43:27Yeah, he's been to Geordie's.
00:43:29He's done several clubs now.
00:43:30How long has he been around the book?
00:43:33He was at Geordie's last year, wasn't he?
00:43:3515 years or so.
00:43:36Maybe less than that, 10 years.
00:43:37But Terry scored five on Saturday.
00:43:40Shows he's still got it.
00:43:41Pace was always his game.
00:43:43Why couldn't he get two hat-tricks?
00:43:45I know he played for Geordie's last year, didn't he?
00:43:47Yeah, he did.
00:43:48He came on, I think, against us.
00:43:50You could tell he'd lost a yard, maybe, or two.
00:43:53But clearly, Div 2, he found his puncture.
00:43:56Yeah, what they had to do,
00:43:57I was speaking to Johnny Myers about that last season,
00:43:58they had to use the rolling subs with him.
00:44:00Because they could only do 10 minutes at a time.
00:44:02I remember him coming off and on,
00:44:03but it wasn't really effective.
00:44:05Yeah, I think it was because of a knee injury or something.
00:44:07They just had to really manage his minutes.
00:44:09But on his day, he's a great player.
00:44:10Yeah, yeah.
00:44:11I mean, five goals there.
00:44:12Braddon, who were already quite a young, strong team anyway,
00:44:14bringing in an experienced head like him,
00:44:16that is a great sign.
00:44:17Well, one of the youngsters, Morgan Beckley, scored last week.
00:44:20And Mark O'Neill's been around.
00:44:23He's been to other clubs, but been at Braddon for a while.
00:44:25It's probably a good mix to go down there, then.
00:44:27Joe, again, another Wednesday Night Footballer.
00:44:30He's scored three and two now, which has given him some stick.
00:44:32So I asked him where he played last night, what position,
00:44:34because he's played defence, midfield.
00:44:36Apparently, he's now been playing behind the front two.
00:44:38Bloody hell.
00:44:39I'm loving the formations I'm showing my footballers.
00:44:41Is everyone going for front fives, front threes?
00:44:44Yeah.
00:44:45Is he now laying the claim to be one of the best boroughs?
00:44:48Oh, I don't know.
00:44:49George might have something to say about that.
00:44:51Now I think about it, Mills had four strikers at one point against Moran.
00:44:54It was like it was a change in tactics.
00:44:56It was a win and over.
00:44:57Suddenly, you see four on four.
00:44:59Moran defenders are marking four.
00:45:00Like, what?
00:45:01What is happening?
00:45:03It used to be, back in your day, 4-4-2.
00:45:074-5-1.
00:45:084-5-1.
00:45:09Like it.
00:45:10But, yes, they've started well.
00:45:12Bully, though, have also started well.
00:45:14They're summer signing James McGinn.
00:45:16Yeah.
00:45:17Doing the stuff last week.
00:45:19I need to catch up with him on that.
00:45:20Winning 3-2 against Malou.
00:45:22A key run crown.
00:45:23They've got both goals from Malou in that game.
00:45:25That's a great result.
00:45:26After a season of, some might say, toil last year,
00:45:28they've started well.
00:45:30What did they get on the midweek?
00:45:31No game midweek.
00:45:32No game.
00:45:33So, they'll be trying to prove a point against Braddon this week,
00:45:36but I think Braddon, they've started so well.
00:45:39They were 6-1 win on Tuesday as well.
00:45:42So, that's 16 goals in two games.
00:45:44They've got to be favourites for this one.
00:45:46Yeah, I think so.
00:45:47Fair play to Bully.
00:45:48Just getting that team out and the signers that they've made,
00:45:52I think that's already a positive start to the season.
00:45:54So, I don't think they'll be in any trouble.
00:45:57I think Bully will be sort of mid-table,
00:45:59maybe sort of challenging, maybe for a top six.
00:46:01I don't know.
00:46:02But, yeah, I think it's got Braddon winning on it.
00:46:05I'll go with Braddon, but quite comfortable.
00:46:07I was going to say, that Malou-Pully game,
00:46:09that's a meaty fixture.
00:46:10It's a shock.
00:46:11It's a shock, that result.
00:46:12I bet that was a thrilling game.
00:46:14Pully have recruited well in the summer.
00:46:16Yeah, they have.
00:46:17Yeah, it's not the Pully of old.
00:46:19I saw Malou post at half-time.
00:46:20I didn't realise what the full-time score was until right now,
00:46:22but I saw Malou post that they were 2-1 up at half-time
00:46:25and they were dead confident.
00:46:26They were like, oh, good first half and all that.
00:46:28Malou love a bit of a Twitter post, don't they?
00:46:30They do love a little bit of a wind-up and applying to comments.
00:46:33You can get at Malou.
00:46:34You can.
00:46:35You certainly can.
00:46:37So, who are you calling in that one?
00:46:40Winner in that one?
00:46:41Braddon or Pully?
00:46:42I'm going to go Braddon, quite comfortably.
00:46:44Yeah.
00:46:45Malou, talking Malou, they've taken on Governors Athletic
00:46:48in a game that, bizarrely, quite a few players have moved
00:46:51between the two clubs historically.
00:46:53I don't know if it is much of a...
00:46:54It's a Tony Stewart derby, that's why.
00:46:56It's a Tony Stewart derby.
00:46:57It's a Tony Stewart derby.
00:46:58Govs, they had a great result mid-week,
00:47:02narrowly losing three suits of Old Boys.
00:47:04Well, as much as a loss is a great result.
00:47:06Yeah, we have to say, so, obviously five goals,
00:47:08four red cards in that match.
00:47:10This is the one that Dean Zirk was at the other day
00:47:12and it just sounded mental.
00:47:14I think Dean got a bit of a flash for his rating of the ref.
00:47:17He gave you 55 out of 100.
00:47:19I think the 50 for turning up is generous, by the way.
00:47:22I think 50 for turning up is like...
00:47:25I guess some refs don't turn up.
00:47:27Well, they neither did, did they?
00:47:29Is it true that Old Boys had more red cards in that game?
00:47:32Is that right?
00:47:33Yeah, Old Boys had three, I think, and Coventry's got one.
00:47:36Yeah, I think so.
00:47:37But some of them had a couple of cautions.
00:47:38But one of them was the Old Boys' manager,
00:47:40it wasn't the Garland.
00:47:41Yeah, they were managers on the same day.
00:47:43They always seem to have a Garland in their managing coaching staff,
00:47:45don't they?
00:47:46Even if your name's not Garland,
00:47:47you have to change your name by default
00:47:49when you take on the role.
00:47:50It's part of the...
00:47:52You get a hot dog from Paul Turner at half-time
00:47:56and you have to change your name to Garland.
00:47:59Garland, yeah, absolutely.
00:48:00But yeah, so...
00:48:01Coventry were leading that game at half-time.
00:48:03I think, as I say, Old Boys were down to nine men
00:48:06for at least 50 minutes in that game.
00:48:08So that obviously played a part.
00:48:10But yeah, Coventry were winning,
00:48:11so they were competitive, which is good.
00:48:13So I think Coventry are going to win on Saturday.
00:48:16They're going to beat Malou.
00:48:17Although Kieran Crutner is a good player.
00:48:19I think this will be tight.
00:48:20And as you say, Kieran Crutner is a very good player.
00:48:22I'll go with a draw here.
00:48:24I think it'll be tight.
00:48:25And I think...
00:48:26Because Malou aren't pushovers either,
00:48:28they'll fight for everything
00:48:29and they've been struggling to fill the team recently.
00:48:31Haven't Malou, have they?
00:48:32Great, they won 7-2 in the week.
00:48:35We should check that out.
00:48:36Yeah, that's as well.
00:48:37Royals are on 3-4, aren't they?
00:48:39No wonder if all your players get up and go.
00:48:41Out of pure hatred, I'm going to go for Goffs.
00:48:46I'll go for a draw, yeah.
00:48:47Yeah, I'll go for a Desmond 2-0.
00:48:49Michael, United vs. Douglas in District.
00:48:51Now, Michael started off with a narrow loss to Colby
00:48:55and then they've drawn with Uthie.
00:48:57Have we hexed them?
00:48:58I think...
00:48:59Did everyone go for them?
00:49:01You've got a 4-5-1 in front of you, Dave.
00:49:03So have you, Andy.
00:49:04I've got the back of A.
00:49:06Right, so...
00:49:07Did most people go for...
00:49:09Tom went for all boys.
00:49:11Andy, you went for Michael.
00:49:12I went for Michael.
00:49:13Adam, I don't know.
00:49:14Yours?
00:49:15I went...
00:49:16I know, yeah.
00:49:17What happened to yours?
00:49:18I have no idea.
00:49:19I went for Michael.
00:49:20Did you?
00:49:21Yeah.
00:49:22So a lot of people have gone for Michael.
00:49:24Yeah.
00:49:25Have we hexed them?
00:49:27I think we might have done, you know.
00:49:29Only Sam.
00:49:30I've not...
00:49:31Turton went for Braddon.
00:49:32Oh, sorry, Eric did as well.
00:49:34So, interesting.
00:49:35But with the striking Liam Kane
00:49:38and with the firepower they have,
00:49:40it must just be the defence.
00:49:43I knew they were looking for a goalkeeper, weren't they?
00:49:45A first team keeper is their big problem.
00:49:47So maybe...
00:49:48They'll still score a load of goals,
00:49:49it just depends on how many they concede.
00:49:51Yeah.
00:49:52Because Liam Kane's going to bag.
00:49:53We kind of know what he's going to do.
00:49:55There's talk of him already confirming a deal
00:49:58to go to Laxey next season.
00:49:59Well, he started at Laxey, didn't he?
00:50:01Yeah, he did.
00:50:02And I'm led to believe that he's going to have one more year at Michael's.
00:50:04So he'll want this year to be a big one.
00:50:06And they've not started the best, but...
00:50:08I've heard that Liam Kane, on that subject,
00:50:11was pocketed last weekend
00:50:13by the new centre-back partnership with Colby
00:50:15of Jordan Edge and Nick Clegg,
00:50:18who just got removed from Gyms.
00:50:20So, yeah, he was a striker last year,
00:50:22he'd gone back to centre-back
00:50:23and probably pocketed him, so...
00:50:25Bold claim from Aaron.
00:50:27He hasn't scored yet, to be fair.
00:50:29No, he hasn't?
00:50:30Nope.
00:50:31Aaron Hurt, nice to see scoring again.
00:50:33He was at Ayr last year,
00:50:34but I think he'll have a lot of injuries.
00:50:36He used to be at Moran.
00:50:37He's a good sign to have back in as well.
00:50:39I think he was at Michael last year as well, wasn't he?
00:50:41I think it was last year.
00:50:42Yeah, he did have a spell at Ayr.
00:50:44Oh, yeah, he did go to Ayr at one point.
00:50:45I know he didn't play much.
00:50:47Nathan and Aaron both went.
00:50:49Oh, they both went to Ayr, didn't they?
00:50:50They're traitors.
00:50:52Word for the opponents, D&D.
00:50:54Dave, now, obviously, they started it off...
00:50:56Did they pronounce that?
00:50:58No, they didn't play last weekend.
00:50:59No, they lost.
00:51:00It's a tough game in midweek.
00:51:01They lost 6-1 to Bradham.
00:51:03So, again, little is kind of known about D&D's form with that, I think.
00:51:08You obviously spoke to them, didn't you, for 4-5-1?
00:51:10Yeah.
00:51:11They brought a few...
00:51:12Hosted new players in,
00:51:13a couple of returning players,
00:51:15new manager.
00:51:16Takes a bit of time to settle down, doesn't it?
00:51:18Settle down, yeah.
00:51:19I think home win for the Aces for me.
00:51:21Yeah, I think Michael...
00:51:23But it won't be as comfortable as they think.
00:51:25I think D&D make it hard, don't they, for teams.
00:51:27I think it'd be maybe a 3-2 or a 3-1.
00:51:30They'll probably go into this confident,
00:51:32having looked at those two previous results of Michael's.
00:51:34So, you never know with D&D.
00:51:35Yeah, they can always pull out a shot.
00:51:37And we don't know who's playing for them,
00:51:39because they will have signed 50 players.
00:51:41Is it too early to say it's a must-win game for Michael?
00:51:44I was just thinking out of my head,
00:51:46but then I thought, I'm not going to say it.
00:51:49Because we were only in the second week of the season.
00:51:54Adam, I love your bold punditry.
00:51:56Yes.
00:51:57You're what Chris Sutton wants to be.
00:52:02Didn't you make a very bold claim
00:52:04about the division title last year?
00:52:06Yeah, you did.
00:52:07In about October.
00:52:08I said that Ayrton had already run it.
00:52:10And they drew 30-0.
00:52:11Yeah, he did say it.
00:52:12I thought he did Laxey, didn't he?
00:52:14No, no.
00:52:15Laxey only won their first game and then fell to pieces, didn't they?
00:52:17They came into the podcast and then that was it.
00:52:19The podcast curse.
00:52:20I wonder if it'll be like this this year.
00:52:22We'll see.
00:52:23Guests will be back.
00:52:24We're just playing with the format in itself.
00:52:27Is that easing it back in?
00:52:28We're workshopping.
00:52:29Yeah, exactly.
00:52:31Right, also on Saturday, Dave,
00:52:32FC Aleman versus Bury.
00:52:34The Ravens are back at home.
00:52:36Big game.
00:52:37Six away games in a row.
00:52:39That's some road trip, isn't it?
00:52:40It's like an American sport, they do that.
00:52:42Then they go on tour for three months.
00:52:44And Sam Turton was the groupie.
00:52:47Big game, obviously.
00:52:49Bury brought over a load of fans last year.
00:52:51I believe that the tickets had already been selling well
00:52:53up to a couple of weeks ago.
00:52:54Should be a good crowd down at the Vault.
00:52:56Six of our kick-off.
00:52:57It is.
00:52:58FC Aleman, currently 12th, in my memory,
00:53:00who serves me.
00:53:01A bit of a mixed bag so far this season.
00:53:03Yeah, they had two narrow 2-1 defeats,
00:53:05but then they got back to winning ways in midweek, 3-1.
00:53:07Prestwick Hayes.
00:53:08Prestwick Hayes, yeah.
00:53:09So, a bit of confidence.
00:53:11It sounds like the likes of Sam Baines and people like that
00:53:13played really well.
00:53:15Be interested to see what the line-up's like.
00:53:17Big Bury contingent coming.
00:53:18I know they're bringing some of their junior side as well.
00:53:20I think they're under tens are playing games on Saturday
00:53:22and Sunday.
00:53:23Right.
00:53:24Wandsert.
00:53:27The strange, I've never seen this as a venue.
00:53:29Henry Bloom Noble is hosting a match.
00:53:32Henry Bloom Noble?
00:53:33The Astro?
00:53:34Yeah.
00:53:35Is that full-size?
00:53:36I'm not sure.
00:53:37If it is, then why is...
00:53:38My son goes there, so I should really know.
00:53:40But I haven't scoped out his football prospects.
00:53:43I don't think it is full-size,
00:53:44but if they can get games on there,
00:53:45you'd think a team would be playing there if it was full-size.
00:53:47It's under tens.
00:53:48Oh, it makes sense then.
00:53:49Yeah.
00:53:50And I think they may be at the Bowl on Sunday.
00:53:53Are Bury bringing,
00:53:54do we know how many Bury are bringing?
00:53:56Fans, I don't know.
00:53:57They usually bring a big contingent.
00:53:58Jagerbombs at McDonald's again Saturday.
00:54:00Do you remember they did at McDonald's?
00:54:02Was that Bury or was that West Ditch?
00:54:03I thought it was Bury.
00:54:04I thought it was Bury, yeah.
00:54:05We've not heard any murmurs about that yet.
00:54:07No, but then...
00:54:09Might as well go and know.
00:54:10Harry always brings a lot of them,
00:54:11but it was nice to see that, in fairness,
00:54:13the summer tournament they did this summer,
00:54:15Chester were over, and they brought loads.
00:54:17I remember seeing them all at Nags Head at 9.30,
00:54:19and I must say I knew a few of them.
00:54:20I think Radcliffe brought a few as well.
00:54:22All teams involved.
00:54:23I didn't see many Lancaster City fans,
00:54:25but they were all just great.
00:54:27We obviously knew a few of them.
00:54:28Yeah, yeah.
00:54:29To see them at 9.30, Nags Head,
00:54:30when you're heading to work,
00:54:31it's not nice,
00:54:32because all you want to do is join them.
00:54:33It's not a special kind of ceremony.
00:54:35Exactly, yeah.
00:54:36Right, next thing we should touch on this week
00:54:38before we wrap it up,
00:54:39is Freddie O'Donoghue.
00:54:42Have I said that right?
00:54:43Yeah, Freddie O'Donoghue,
00:54:44I think that's how you pronounce it.
00:54:45You only interviewed him this week.
00:54:47Yeah, yeah, of course.
00:54:48Yeah, yeah.
00:54:49So, former Peel midfielder.
00:54:51Played five games?
00:54:52Played five games last year, I think.
00:54:54Maybe one, was it before?
00:54:55Something like that.
00:54:56Signed for Carlisle United versus Dundee.
00:54:59Yeah, he's doing well.
00:55:0017 years of age.
00:55:01Made his first team debut in the EFL Trophy this week,
00:55:04in a 2-1 defeat by Nottingham Forest,
00:55:06under 21s.
00:55:07Yeah.
00:55:08You spot him soon.
00:55:09There's a great piece on the back of the Courier this week,
00:55:11and online now.
00:55:12Now, fingers crossed,
00:55:13following wind, all that,
00:55:14we're going to have a Zoom conversation with him next week,
00:55:16so if you've got any questions for Freddie,
00:55:18who's a 17-year-old lad making his way
00:55:20in the professional game,
00:55:21do get him through to us on the usual channels.
00:55:23Or he might say no if you're a Moran boy,
00:55:25mightn't he?
00:55:26Yeah, yeah.
00:55:27He did originally say that he,
00:55:28when I asked him for a few questions
00:55:30and to speak to him,
00:55:31he said, no Moran scum,
00:55:32he called it, so.
00:55:33He sounds like he knows you well.
00:55:34He sounds like a real man, yeah.
00:55:36So he, yeah,
00:55:38so we'll hopefully have a speaking to him next Tuesday,
00:55:40so please,
00:55:41if you've got any questions,
00:55:42do that by,
00:55:43close the business on Monday?
00:55:45Yep.
00:55:46On games, Dave,
00:55:47now,
00:55:48there was a draw in Altony last night
00:55:49that hasn't gone the way we wanted.
00:55:51Yeah, he hasn't resurfaced yet,
00:55:52the score,
00:55:53and so,
00:55:54it's stopped all good news.
00:55:55It's in the next head,
00:55:56with the Chester fans.
00:56:00So,
00:56:01so,
00:56:02good news for the Alabama men's team,
00:56:03they are safely in the draw,
00:56:05so,
00:56:06because it's in Altony,
00:56:07the competition,
00:56:08next summer,
00:56:09it was oversubscribed,
00:56:10so they had to,
00:56:11they had to obviously cap it at 12 teams,
00:56:13for the groups.
00:56:14Now,
00:56:15the previous winners,
00:56:16the hosts,
00:56:17they were automatically in,
00:56:18so basically,
00:56:19they were a very limited number of places.
00:56:20They held the draw,
00:56:21yesterday.
00:56:22The Alabama,
00:56:23I think were eighth or ninth team out,
00:56:25so they were okay,
00:56:26they were safely in there,
00:56:27but unfortunately for the women,
00:56:28they were the very last ball out,
00:56:30which means,
00:56:31they are the first reserve,
00:56:32third reserve,
00:56:33sorry,
00:56:34so,
00:56:35they,
00:56:36in all likelihood,
00:56:37they're not going to be in the Island Games,
00:56:38next year.
00:56:39Which is a real shame.
00:56:40Yeah,
00:56:41especially after the success in the Cherry Garden Free Cup,
00:56:42only last month.
00:56:43And they got a medal last year.
00:56:44Bronze medal last year.
00:56:45Yeah,
00:56:46exactly.
00:56:47So,
00:56:48they basically need three teams to drop out,
00:56:49for them to be in it,
00:56:50and it's unlikely,
00:56:51but you never know,
00:56:52but,
00:56:53yeah.
00:56:54Tom,
00:56:55you have added,
00:56:56just as we were,
00:56:57some breaking news,
00:56:58had a statement from the FA,
00:56:59about the groundbreaking,
00:57:00you just said it was disappointing,
00:57:01that they're not in it.
00:57:02And they're going to look for other avenues.
00:57:03Look for other avenues for the women,
00:57:04so hopefully they get some competition as well,
00:57:05but this Cherry Garden Free Cup,
00:57:06looked like it was really well ran,
00:57:07and obviously they did really well,
00:57:08Becky and the team,
00:57:09doing awesome stuff,
00:57:10as usual.
00:57:11Right,
00:57:12I think that's,
00:57:13oh no,
00:57:14it's not that,
00:57:15that's it for this,
00:57:16we've got the two best bits of the podcast.
00:57:17Calm down,
00:57:18don't go anywhere yet.
00:57:19Oh,
00:57:20don't go anywhere yet,
00:57:21don't be switching off.
00:57:22Right,
00:57:23time for,
00:57:24Combi Corner.
00:57:25Right,
00:57:26so,
00:57:27with it being a double game week,
00:57:28I've just sort of glossed over the results,
00:57:29done a bit of a round of them.
00:57:30Love it.
00:57:31Yeah.
00:57:32So,
00:57:33St. Mary's,
00:57:34Ramsey and St. John's are all,
00:57:35You don't need to sell it to me Dave.
00:57:36Yeah.
00:57:37We have to sell it to you,
00:57:38every week.
00:57:39Yeah you do,
00:57:40because I don't like doing it.
00:57:41St. Mary's,
00:57:42Ramsey and St. John's,
00:57:43all boast 100% records,
00:57:44in Canada Life Combination 1,
00:57:45after winning both of their first,
00:57:46first games this week.
00:57:47St. Mary's lead the way,
00:57:48after recording 3-1 and 9-0 wins,
00:57:49with Ramsey second,
00:57:50after 6-0 and 4-2 successes,
00:57:51while the Johnners both,
00:57:52won both of their games,
00:57:534-0.
00:57:54So,
00:57:59Oh,
00:58:00easy for me to say.
00:58:213-0 down.
00:58:22Yeah.
00:58:29Combination 2,
00:58:30Colby and Oldboys lead the way,
00:58:31good for you Adam.
00:58:32Get in there.
00:58:33You're happy over there.
00:58:34They've got 6 points out of 6,
00:58:35the Moonlighters lead the way,
00:58:37on goal difference at the moment.
00:58:38Brad and Euthy are unbeaten,
00:58:39on 4 points,
00:58:40after a win and a draw apiece,
00:58:42followed by Castletown and D&D,
00:58:44who've both won their opening day,
00:58:45their opening game,
00:58:46but lost their second in midweek.
00:58:48They're joined on 3 points,
00:58:49by Pulley,
00:58:50who defeated Jim's on Wednesday,
00:58:51in their only game so far.
00:58:53Dougie Royal,
00:58:54Governors,
00:58:55Jim's,
00:58:56Daffka and Michael,
00:58:57so far.
00:58:58Can you feel that?
00:58:59Yeah.
00:59:00It's that warm feeling you get,
00:59:02when Dave does Colby,
00:59:03Colby.
00:59:04I find it really soothing.
00:59:06It's by Monotonous Voices though.
00:59:07It's by Monotonous Voices.
00:59:08It's by Monotonous Voices.
00:59:09It's by Monotonous Voices,
00:59:10that just send you to sleep.
00:59:13Give it the full beans,
00:59:14Adam.
00:59:15Dave reads the weather.
00:59:18Alright,
00:59:19young singer and man over there.
00:59:20Third place.
00:59:21Third place,
00:59:22so yeah.
00:59:23He's not a winner.
00:59:24It may have been awful on Tuesday night,
00:59:26but the forecast is again,
00:59:27looking good for this weekend's games.
00:59:28Both Friday and Saturday will be dry,
00:59:30with sunny spells.
00:59:31Temperatures are set to rise considerably.
00:59:33Indeed,
00:59:34both days are expected to be,
00:59:36amongst the warmest days of the year.
00:59:38So don't be surprised to see Tom and Adam,
00:59:40both drinking on the sidelines.
00:59:42But does this mean,
00:59:43does this mean drinks breaks are back,
00:59:44this weekend?
00:59:45What is the,
00:59:46what does the mercury have to reach?
00:59:48Yeah,
00:59:49what's the temperature?
00:59:50Because some refs just willy-nilly.
00:59:51I'm sorry,
00:59:52there shouldn't be drinks breaks at all,
00:59:53amongst football.
00:59:54Here we go.
00:59:56No,
00:59:57if the professionals are getting them,
00:59:58and these lads have been in the pub on a Friday night,
01:00:00they're a bit knackered,
01:00:01it's boiling hot.
01:00:02They deserve a,
01:00:03like a little.
01:00:04Don't go to the pub on a Friday night then.
01:00:06Okay.
01:00:07You're telling me everyone who makes football is prime athlete?
01:00:09No,
01:00:10that's what I'm saying.
01:00:11We must have some big boys that could do the rest,
01:00:13surely.
01:00:14Every club has them,
01:00:15and we all,
01:00:16we all need a break.
01:00:17Even the fittest amongst us,
01:00:18I can imagine Lee Gale,
01:00:19if he's given an option,
01:00:20will have a drinks break,
01:00:21won't he?
01:00:22So,
01:00:23yeah.
01:00:24I've never made it through a podcast without a drink yet.
01:00:26Let's ask the public,
01:00:27let's ask the public.
01:00:28Drinks breaks or no drinks breaks in public?
01:00:29Well,
01:00:30if it becomes a stellar on the sidelines.
01:00:31No,
01:00:32no,
01:00:33you are aware that it's like,
01:00:34it's water.
01:00:35Yeah,
01:00:36half time,
01:00:37half time times four.
01:00:38It's a little,
01:00:39in between half time.
01:00:40I'll tell you what,
01:00:41I saw the other day,
01:00:42I digress,
01:00:43I'm sorry,
01:00:44we always do.
01:00:45Do you remember Dave,
01:00:46when we were younger,
01:00:47they used to have the Lucozade tablets?
01:00:48Yeah,
01:00:49yeah.
01:00:50Right.
01:00:51I saw a post on social media.
01:00:52I saw this video.
01:00:53They were just chewing.
01:00:54They were eating the,
01:00:55like,
01:00:56the old Lucozade.
01:00:57It must have been off their face.
01:00:58Definitely diabetic now.
01:00:59But,
01:01:00like,
01:01:01after the first time they did it,
01:01:02you'd think that they might have caught on.
01:01:03But they came in,
01:01:04like,
01:01:05packs as well.
01:01:06Yeah,
01:01:07yeah,
01:01:08so they must have just been absolutely chuckling about.
01:01:09They came in,
01:01:10must have slept for like,
01:01:11three months.
01:01:12Unbelievable.
01:01:13Right,
01:01:14on that bombshell,
01:01:15ta-ta for now.
