00:00The finance world is a fast-moving one, and it can be tough to stay on top of all the latest
00:04developments. So, I'm Alex Nelson, Jobs and Finance Specialist for National World,
00:09and here are three big talking points from the world of money this week.
00:19It's been announced that the Household Support Fund, which aims to protect those who are
00:23financially struggling during the cost-of-living crisis, has been extended by another six months.
00:29Initially introduced in October 2021, the fund has been extended multiple times,
00:34and now the Labour government has confirmed an extra round of funding until at least March 2025.
00:39Local councils are free to decide how to dish out the funds allocated to them,
00:43with plans expected to be announced in the coming weeks. To see if you're eligible for payments,
00:49check your local council's website. Next, the Body Shop has been saved from administration.
00:54It was revealed this week that a consortium led by British entrepreneur
00:58Mike Chitanya had acquired the brand, meaning that the company's 113 remaining high street stores
01:04will be able to stay open. That's good news for fans of the chain's cruelty-free products.
01:09And finally, a Suffolk man will auction off a rare Charizard Pokémon card later this month,
01:14with it expected to sell for around £40,000. The cards were once a playground staple,
01:20and many of us will likely have forgotten collections stashed away in lofts or drawers.
01:25I used the website pokercardvalues.co.uk and discovered that a common Pikachu card from
01:30the late 90s was worth around £3.50. It's not quite £40,000, but considering I probably have
01:37hundreds of the cards lying about, it's not bad for a bit of card that's been sitting in the dark
01:41for decades.
